NOTE: I fully understand that you all have different favorite spots (that I may not have been to), different understandings of what is nice and enjoyable and different experiences. That's why this is MY Top 5, with a little insight as to why. Chosen from the places I have been to. Could well be that I haven't been to your favorite place yet or I just didn't enjoy it as much as you did. So all this is based on my experiences and what I have seen. Enjoy your day 😉
Nico I am not even remotely good as you but, believe me, if you have the chance go there, you won’t regret it, best windsurfing of my life ever, then of course everybody has his own views and tastes and so on, anyway keep up the good work, peace man 🤙🏻💙🤙🏻
you should come to Saint Brevin , west France : the water is brown, there is a strong current here in the estuary of the Loire, the chop is gnarly, the waves are anarchic, and the sandbanks are often unpredictable...uhuhuh.. not for rookies (except at low tide behind the main sandbank)
I’m so glad the Outer Banks made the list. It was great meeting you when you were here. And it’s not always flat water here we do have waves. Ocean side and in the sound where you sailed. You just have to go a few miles out to the “Reef” as we call it where the flat meets the deep water. Usually a NW or SW wind works best for the reef.
Those Windsurfing actions shown from the Canaries were enjoyable and varied and proved that the waterways there are suitable for each grade of board also. The commentary was enjoyable and amusing too.
For beginners and up Soma Bay/Egypt @Surfmotion, which is on the opposite side of Robinson. Perfect Freeride place. My kids loved it and mastered 38kts. early on due to the flat water. Out of fashion but still a good plave is Carbarete. Wind comes perfectly sideshore and the reef is 800m out offering manageable waves for the not so experienced sailors. More wind in summer and more waves in winter. Get your own stuff there. Chrissie field/San Francisco is the place to start when you want to sail next to the Golden Gate Bridge made this a couple if times and it'S just very scenic. Wave spots such as Davenport are not too distant as well. Maui you mentioned so this is my personal top four list.
Awesome that two of my fav spots made your list 🙂 Maui, Kanaha and of course...the OBX where I got to meet you and Lars and raced with you! Bonaire is incredible...been 3 times.... Loved The Gorge as well! Baja at La Ventana is another great spot.... Surf the earth Nico 🙂
Personally for me I'd add to more spots: Soma Bay in Egypt : Really good hotels like Robinson Soma Bay with good rental material, most of the time sideshore wind and flat to choppy conditions. Wind statistics are also good. For beginners there's also (speaking of the Robinson station) a standing area and if you wanna go out they give you a GPS device so they can rescue you quickly. Brouwersdam in the Netherlands: Mostly flat water, good wind statistics and great parking situation at the spot. Also fast to reach from Germany. The dutch are also quite friendly people😂
Wow nico... I watch every video but I always forget what an incredible wave and freestyler you are. I know you are competing racing but man your jumps and waveriding looks phenomenal!!!
Hood River is amazing, just a day's drive for me. You have beginner spots with schools, huge river swells & flat water off sand bars for slalom. Hood River is like a smooth skate park at times and it is warm most days. It is a beautiful area with plenty of non windsurfing activities and places to eat, but very little night life & zero rentals except for beginners so you have to bring your own gear. I'm surprised Tenerife didn't make your list. My family is from Hawaii but I prefer Tenerife over Hawaii, mainly because of the ease of rental gear & the fact that I get to explore a new culture vs. one that is very familiar to me.
I didn't say it was a great place for beginners, but it is more than adequate. The Hook is a good spot for beginner windsurfers & foilers while the Marina is an excellent spot for beginning windsurfers and not too bad for learning to foil either. The large sandbar with the big eddy it creates makes the Marina a great spot to teach.
Nico, when you ll be in the Gorge, don’t forget about Pistol River ,7h drive, awesome wave riding ,similar to CapeTown just starboard, and don’t forget about the current in Gorge otherwise when wind dyes when you are up wind what we usually do to come back where you started from , here….you going to Portland 😅,but we spoke once about it ,I hope to see you here one day 👍
And I forgot to tell you ,I really enjoy ur vlog,it’s great 👍 ,I keep my fingers crossed for you on tour ,never been in Hatteras but windsurfing capitol of US is in the Gorge, personally I live in Chicago ,see you in Gorge Man or…Maui ❤️👍👏
Excellent video Nico, thank you! Great images and great windsurfing trip ideas. You really sold me on Alaçati. From your comments, it seems to be an excellent all round vacation. Keep up the great videos!
One of best video on windsurfing. I really appriciate your efforts on this sports. I live in Turkey and hope to meet you when you come. By the way, my wall is already spared for your foto 👍👌🏄🏻♂️
Please visit the bridge in San Fransisco, must be great footage of pictures and video. I guess its pretty chilly out there as well. So that is two goals .
thanks for sharing your top 5! i‘d pick 🇧🇶bonaire hands down. for the people, the vibe, the windsurf passion. sunset sessions at tonky&taty‘s place 2nd to none imho. i‘m curious how you‘ll rate it, looking forward to your report🤙🏼
Good list but I would certainly pit Mauritius-Le Morne very high up on the list. A huge variety of conditions at one spot, paired with perfect temperatures and very good consistency.
Beautiful spots you highlight. SF Golden Gate bridge is gusty so bring a floaty board and large sail but enjoy the view. You might try South Sacramento river aka powerlines or Rio Vista. On an ebb tide you have yourself a mini hood river in the Bay Area with nice rollers, and a warm usually steady wind from June-Sept after 4pm.
You have to visit Pacasmayo, in Perú. Pancho Goya said that it is the windsurfer Disneyland. Look for the Kauli Seadi video at Pacasmayo. 3 minutes on the same wave.
Great review of windsurf spots! Maui is my favorite spot to Windsurf! Tarifa looks like another great place, I'll need to come and check out the area in the near future.
Awesome that Cold Hawaii made the list. My local spot :) Great video as always. If you are looking for flat water slalom in the area, a place called Krik Vig can be great, but there can be a lot of seaweed sometimes
Thanks Nico for The video. I would like to ask the following: Are you planning on having windsurf workshop vacations with you as a leader? ( similar to other operators) Off topic: We always see video about "how to rig". Could you show us what comes later? Especially now that season is getting closer to end. How do you "un-rig" , how do you preserve the equipment? how do you do it when you're on a van? how do you store in in the winter? how to avoid fungi etc? Thanks a lot.
you should come to Saint Brevin , Atlantic/west France : the water is brown, there is a strong current here in the estuary of the Loire, the chop is gnarly, the waves are anarchic, and the sandbanks are often unpredictable...uhuhuh.. not for rookies (except at low tide behind the main sandbank).. hard for slalom, tricky for wavering, so we essentially do freeride/bump and jump by default :)
Alacati is for sure one of the most attractive destination in Europe especially for beginner, but if you want to practice windsurf in an unforgettable scenario visit the north of sardinia and especially my favorite spot : PORTO POLLO !!!!!
There’s windsurfing on Lake Biwa in Japan. Nothing crazy but you can windsurf the largest fresh water lake of a country and the area is beyond gorgeous, plus the food and easy transport to get there. Also, El Sargento in Baja Sur is a fantastic one, with plenty to see and do all around, like a brick smoke tower designed and built by Gustavo Eiffel himself.
I will add a couple of spots that I love: - Phalasarna, Crete, Greece - Elafonissi, Crete, Greece Really beautiful places and really good windsurf conditions
Very cool video, enjoyed the ratings too. If I recall you didn't have much wind when you visited South Africa, and you only had like 2 weeks and the sun nailed you 🙂 Also remember, South Africa is not just Cape Town and Langebaan which is some 100 km apart. We have 2800 km of coast line, very few people ever venture out further. Happy sailing 😋
Kouremenos, in eastern Crete. One of the most underrated spots. Almost the entire summer with 30-40 knots and chance to choose the intensity of chop according to your distance from the beach. Plus you're in Crete, one of the most beautiful and interesting places in the world. 😉
Moin Nico, great video - and a very special bucket list ;-). I can only recommend to add Mauritius and Morocco (MOULAY BOUZERKTOUN!!!) - both in my top 5... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Another place that I can recommend you is Lake Atitlán in Guatemala, where the Xocomil wind blows and is very strong all year round (in the Popol Vuh you can find the history of this wind). The lake is surrounded by three volcanoes and the landscape is spectacular and the water has a super pleasant temperature. If one day you plan to come, contact me, I can give you accommodation at no cost on the shore of the lake, greetings from Guatemala
Looking to head to Cape Verde this winter. Group of us are Good Intermediate to advanced. Mostly ride Slalom off UK East Coast so used to chop. We also need to be able to rent kit. There seems several decent spots but is there a specific location that you would recommend.
@@Nico_GER7 Thank you for the reply. Maybe look at alternative winter spot. If your ever in the UK and fancy trying the South East ( Essex spots) always welcome..

Hi Nico, I was missing El Médano on top of your list ;-) According to my experience, Cold Hawaii is very good for beginners and intermediate, too. Good spots are Vandet Sö, Krik and several places at Limfjord.
what is the best opction to reach maui with my own gear (2 sails and 1 or 2 boards) from europe? since october to june and is it an opction to found a job there for those mounths? i want to get there to learn wave and live there for this time, im 21
Nothing like a 10km speed ride at La Palme or Gruissan, 5 meters from the sand, with the Canigou mountain (2800m) in the background, and of course the insane Tramontane wind.
Hey Nico, thanks for the video. One more reason to ever go to Hawaii. Be proud of you for the things you have achieved and which provide you the lifestyle you live. Hang loose🤙
Nice video Nico, thank you. But... what about France ? Bleriot/Sangatte (north), Almanarre (Hyeres), Leucate... Ever been there ? I still dream about crossing from Sangatte to Dover with a nice Super Ride or Super Sport (JP). Ever done that ?
Hood River for sure. Spent a week there this Summer. Just a 9 hour drive for me🙌. It’s not just Hood River. There are many incredible spots along the Columbia River to match all skill levels.
Nico - fun video - good information! My home base for windsurfing is the Gorge (Hood River) been windsurfing a long time, however my gf is a beginner wingfoiler. We struggle for a good place to go in the winter where we can both have fun. I’m an early windsurf-foiler as well. Any suggestions?
Nico you must have some wish to freeze whilst windsurfing. It’s not close but it has soo many great spot, consider Australia next time. Great life style, sunny and incredible nature. For windsurfing there are too many spots to name here.
These are all fine as "getaway" places to sail. But what if you want windsurfing to be just a normal part of life? Like you want to be able to work, spend time with family, have a night out, and be able to windsurf a lot too? San Francisco Bay Area is the place for you. There's tons of spots in the Bay and the Delta. You can sail under the Golden Gate Bridge. You can sail past Alcatraz, or by San Quentin, for you outlaws. You can sail by the old Candlestick Park site and fairly close to the Oakland Coliseum, if baseball is in. your blood. And you have alll the activities that the area has to offer, music, shows, museums, hiking, biking, sightseeing, wine country, international cuisine, skiing during the wintertime a few hours away. So you can sail maybe an hour, 90 minutes in the afternoon, and still have time and energy for a nice meal and a show in the evening, or you can catch a ballgame. There are windgauges all over the area, so you know exactly when and where it's blowing. No skunking. The Bay Area is internationally renowned WITHOUT windsurfing for its culture and setting. Add a windsport -- any one or two will do -- and it's just about perfect. The only thing is that it can be cold, except for the heart of summer until maybe September, so a wetsuit is necessary. I live in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I have a similar situation. We've got lots of city-like things to do here, but the beach is always there. I sail whenever I can -- so far this year we've had about a week on, week off pattern -- but if the wind is down I just go surfing. I see people who take a half-hour off during their lunch break, paddle out and catch a couple of waves, and that's it. That's all they need to get their fix. If I didn't live here in Hawaii, I'd live in the Bay Area.
Hey Nico Great footage I have 1 tip Lets make a top 100, so you can ( hopefully) include all other spots that deserve your visit and testing. Like zandvoort, wijk aan zee, carro france, six fours france, canaria’s , australia etc etc. Gives you the push to go there and make footage 😇
Totally offtopic but i have been struggling with the posisiton of my footstraps on the slalom/speed gear. I'm quite tall and like to stand a bit wider, but it feels like this kills the topend speed. Could you make a video compairing strap positions and how they feel to you in one session on one board+sails, maybe backed up with data? 😊😊
Come to Hood River in September and I'll take you on a tour you'll never forget. There are so many incredible spots and different waves up the Columbia River gorge you could easily spend a month. You will sail 4.2 everyday until your arms fall off.
Palekastro in creta nice and strong wind in summer but gusty . Soma bay in Egypt for carabean water mostly flat to choppy amazing scenery. Where to write email to participate to your lottery?
Come to Brittany Nico ! Le sillon in Saint Malo is so beautiful, not that far away from you and very windy in Automn 🤙 It will definitely join your list 😊
NOTE: I fully understand that you all have different favorite spots (that I may not have been to), different understandings of what is nice and enjoyable and different experiences.

Hey Nico, I really appreciate the things you're doing!!!! I'd love to see a Wave-Spot guide in Northern Europe (including Germany)
For beginners and up Soma Bay/Egypt @Surfmotion, which is on the opposite side of Robinson. Perfect Freeride place. My kids loved it and mastered 38kts. early on due to the flat water. Bonaire is on my bucket list.

Another great video, thanks Nico.
Wow nico... I watch every video but I always forget what an incredible wave and freestyler you are. I know you are competing racing but man your jumps and waveriding looks phenomenal!!!
loved it!! I windsurf in California and never heard of this spot(outer banks) in NC, will 100% checkout 😊
Super video 🎉 you have to wisit Western Australia 🇦🇺 Margaret, Lancelin, Geraldton and Gnaraloo ❤❤

I don't windsurf, but I grew up going to Rodanthe in the outer Banks and it is my absolute favorite place in the world! Cheers!
Thanks Nico! Now I need to add some more spots to my bucket list.
Excellent video Nico, thank you! Great images and great windsurfing trip ideas. You really sold me on Alaçati. From your comments, it seems to be an excellent all round vacation. Keep up the great videos!

that's a cool place, but not to be put on the list - there is no rental or even an official WS community around per my knowledge... sadly.
Hi Nico, thanks for this video. But I very much missing the wind foil aspect. Enough deep water and less wind. With is the top 5 wind foil place???
being a west coast sailor Hood River is a must do, July is normally a very windy month. San Fran also has some fairly good wave sailing spots nearby.
Great review of windsurf spots! Maui is my favorite spot to Windsurf! Tarifa looks like another great place, I'll need to come and check out the area in the near future.
Tarifa looks absolutely incredible!

nice video, what you can recommend for Christmas new year time?
Canaries is a safe bet within Europe. Tarifa can be good, but not quite as consistent perhaps. Maui for sure a good one, haha.
you should come to Saint Brevin , Atlantic/west France : the water is brown, there is a strong current here in the estuary of the Loire, the chop is gnarly, the waves are anarchic, and the sandbanks are often unpredictable...uhuhuh.. not for rookies (except at low tide behind the main sandbank).. hard for slalom, tricky for wavering, so we essentially do freeride/bump and jump by default :)
Have you been to pelješac in croatia? The wind is everyday and good flat conditions.
very cool you mentioned Hattera,NC. (and yet Istill haven't been 😒)

- Elafonissi, Crete, Greece
Really beautiful places and really good windsurf conditions
Cabarete, Dominican Republic, and La Palue, Crozon, France
Loved the video. Go to Gone Surfing Crete! Amazing people there.
Hey Nico!!
For sure you have to go Guadeloupe on winter for wave riding or free riding!!
Very cool video, enjoyed the ratings too. If I recall you didn't have much wind when you visited South Africa, and you only had like 2 weeks and the sun nailed you 🙂 Also remember, South Africa is not just Cape Town and Langebaan which is some 100 km apart. Nice interesting ans honest vid.thanks
Wow, sounds amazing. Thank you!
Looking forward to see your adventures on the Columbia Gorge.
Looking to head to Cape Verde this winter. Group of us are Good Intermediate to advanced. Mostly ride Slalom off UK East Coast so used to chop. We also need to be able to rent kit. There seems several decent spots but is there a specific location that you would recommend.
I have been there, I didn't think it was quite the easy spot. There are some rentals like the Angulo center and those connected to hotels.
@@Nico_GER7 Thank you for the reply. Maybe look at alternative winter spot. If your ever in the UK and fancy trying the South East ( Essex spots) always welcome..
Hi Nico. I Think you should also consider visiting Greece. There are some incredible spots here in Greece such as Karpathos, Crete, Nafpaktos. There are also some great spots even in Athens! Combine it with the food and the hospitality and a good time is guaranteed!!
Hi Nico, I was missing El Médano on top of your list ;-) According to my experience, Cold Hawaii is very good for beginners and intermediate, too. Good spots are Vandet Sö, Krik and several places at Limfjord.
It is, but no schools or rentals :-)
@@Nico_GER7There are schools, mate! Check out WestWind offerings in Klitmøller, Voruprør, Bork or Hvide Sande! 😀

Good job nico ! You’re sure to have maximum comments with this ranking 😅
Coronation beach just north of Geraldton in Western Australia
Isla Margarita in Venezuela is an epic spot in the Caribbean
Did you ever try windsurfing in Karpathos ?
He didnt man, if he did he wouldn’t consider anything else than karpathos on the list then 😂
Karpathos is very nice, strongest wind I’ve ever sailed, without suit at least, very recommend
Any advice on clubs or easy place to stay?
Been to many surfspots in europe, Karpathos is my favorite for slalom/speed!
@@vyleart4488 Meltemi windsurfing :)
Great video, almost impossible to have a top 5, there are so many but often the travel budget dictates where to go 🤙
Have you by to Australia yet Nico!
Hood River for sure. Spent a week there this Summer. Just a 9 hour drive for me🙌. It’s not just Hood River. There are many incredible spots along the Columbia River to match all skill levels.

I think it is worth to make mention to the beautiful sardigna in Italy with waves like Hawaii, always windly and crystal water
Should go to the uk at Portland it’s a super flat harbour and choppy in the main harbour and it’s fun to get speed and there’s a lot of racing there
Western Australia is sensational. Margarette River, Lancelin and Coronation, are my personal favourites.
Spot that I love:
UpwindBrasil on Araruama Lagoon, Rio, Brazil 🇧🇷
Sehr geiles Video!
Nico, a great spot to visit and add to your list is Aruba (The happy island) 😀🤙
Hey Nico.
Can you make a tuturial on How you stand in the footstraps? Because I want to shoot over the water like you 🤙🤙🌊
Can you review Bonaire? I've always wanted to go there... would be awesome to hear your experience

What is With Western Australia?

When are you thinking of coming to bonaire?
You should try Mauritius. There are several nice spots around the Morne 😊
Hey Nico
Great footage
I have 1 tip
Lets make a top 100, so you can ( hopefully) include all other spots that deserve your visit and testing. Like zandvoort, wijk aan zee, carro france, six fours france, canaria’s , australia etc etc. Gives you the push to go there and make footage 😇
Que hay de cabarete y Jeri?
Totally offtopic but i have been struggling with the posisiton of my footstraps on the slalom/speed gear. I'm quite tall and like to stand a bit wider, but it feels like this kills the topend speed. Could you make a video compairing strap positions and how they feel to you in one session on one board+sails, maybe backed up with data? 😊😊
What about garda lake? Its a very beatifull place 🤙
Very good video and i hope that a day i can visit these spot
Brazil

Showing Swift rip Jaws and calling it a skatepark.. big flex, Nico 😄
Is this list useful for wingfoil?

How about Aruba? Wanted to go there for a long time & it's close to Bonaire. Looking forward to the Bonaire review!
Bonaire + Aruba definitely on the list. But you have to make some choices, haha.
If you like remote...come to New Zealand. Great video again Nico
