I am 30 now and discovered tracker music at around 18 years old or so, but also didn't realize that I was listening to tracker music all-the-way back at 5 years old with games like Jazz Jackrabbit 2! Definitely inspired me with my own music!
the idea that a tune this beautiful was done in '95 on a regular consumer PC is absolutely mindblowing to me... vsts and shit is cool and all but a bunch of 8bit samples is enough to summon a whole range of emotions if u're talented!
I remember so many moments in the early 1990s where I was angry Demoscene music was not globally famous, considering to me it sounded better than the music on the radio (still does, of course)
Without a doubt there were many talented people in this scene. Sucks to see not a lot of them got the credit they deserved.

Ohhh god this brings back memories. So many hours in Impuse and Scream Tracker. This track is insane... i still listen to it now in 2022. Such an epic workout song!

I too have heard it first in UT99, I had a map compilation from some old German game magazine borrowed from a friend. I liked the song so much I converted it to MP3 and listened to it all the time on my phone. After both of my old HDD and the phone died, I lost all hope I'll ever find it again. Now, thanks to an amazing video by Ahoy - "Trackers: The Sound of 16-Bit" I finally found it again and it nearly brought me to tears.

Ironically I've just wrote on another video (8-bit guy) that the reason I switched from the Amiga to PC in 1995 was because of Impulse Tracker.

This isnt nostalgia... This is meeting something actually good that even if you havent lived it you want to go back in time.
One thing i can say is that the things were simpler and happier and more peaceful back in the day, im from early 2000s but since brazil is quite behind than rest of the world was really like living the 90s culture and tech wise.
I miss the peaceful simplicity.

This is known as Tracker music here in the west, though the real lads say DOSKpop.
"Demoscene" is a broader genre than this type of music, BUT a lot of Demoscene music sounded at least vaguely like this due to shared sample/effect usage and similar inspiration. Though Necros was definitely one of the best, and I say that despite him not being specifically one of my favorites even.

I don't know. Playing with dead by Nighthawk is also a very good song, but the vibe is different. Maybe it is this kinda morphing sound in the background, I first recognized in Second Reality by Future Crew.
