- I thrifted a canopy bed with great bones but in need of some modernization. So I made a DIY faux leather headboard pad - a la Anthropologie - that took it to the next level!

I found your channel as a suggestion from watching so many upcyclers like Blueprint DIY and male sewists like Glory Allan and Norris danta Ford. I like your videos because you always show the impediments, the costs, quick solutions and things you tried that didn't work so well. I think I remember a video where it was said the thicker the fabric, the higher the tension. But I would have thought lower as well
So glad to have you here! Good to know about the tension! I’ll keep that in mind next time - thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
This looks incredible! So glad you did do the top stitching , it really made it look so professional. But lets face you are professional!!!!! Good job!
Good solution. Sleek and modern and who doesn’t bump their their head on a hard headboard.
I must confess that I am somewhat addicted to watching people who are redoing their homes by themselves and on a budget. You are special for many reasons. You excel at showing and explaining your process, mistakes and all. Your artistic perspective and creativity is very unique. Your inventive solutions are helpful for others. Bless you on your journey.
Sewing tips: Always iron your seams open and flat before you turn the fabric on the front. Iron your straps flat before you sew your top stitching. Hope this helps for next time. I just discovered your page today. I subscribed!
Great tips! I was worried about ironing the faux leather since I wasn’t sure how it would react… do you think it would be ok to iron?
This looks SO GOOD! Your extreme attention to detail seems unmatched and I am here for it! It looks VERY professional and high end ❤
Great project. Excellent details. Love the top stitching and how it makes the panel so luxe. Bravo!
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Gives me safari camp vibes. Nicely done.
Thank you!
That too stitching really sets it off but in a subtle way. Outstanding work!
It looks fabulous! I'm glad that you didn't tear into it with a jig saw or make other alterations to the structure. I think it's a nice enough piece to preserve the integrity of the original design. That said, your solution is brilliant and looks high end. I just can't even imagine a better solution. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! I’m still so happy with this… it’s gonna look killer in my completed bedroom!
Amazing idea! It definitely looks like a different bed-much better.
Thanks!
13:34 such a great idea! And you’re brilliantly gorgeous 😊
You need an antique singer sewing machine, they will sew through anything
Along with all your other talents you sew too 😲?! impressive. And great job on headboard. I've been passed down my mothers vintage 1960's Kenmore sewing machine, I also curb-shopped a beautiful 1930 Singer treadle machine. Absolutely no clue how to use either 'yet' but I'll be teaching myself.
Yeah sewing was my big thing when I first started my channel! Good for you for finding old machines… they are much more durable and high quality compared to the cheap plastic ones they make now! I have an old one that is currently my bedside table in my bedroom 😂 I hope to get it working someday!
I am a recent viewer to your channel and in regards to whether or not we like the jacket you look great on your worst day and absolutely gorgeous on your best day so don't worry about that and I absolutely love the and I am all for if you can't find it make it I have used curtains for upholstery I have used upholstery fabric for curtains especially if you needed blackout curtains take things and rearrange them to the way you need you're awesome thank you for your channel
I have been thinking about trying to make my own shoes, but have seen some examples of diy shoes which looked homemade in a way I didn’t care for, but I think that the techniques you show in this video, particularly the topstitching, could be the answer to getting a more professional finish when I take the plunge into handmade shoes. This was such an unexpected boon from watching your delightful and informative videos! Thank you!
It's amazing, I love it!!
✨
I love your aesthetics, logic/thinking and humour!

Boy that was a tough project. The results are prefect. Great job!!
Great job! So creative and the top stitching looks terrific!
I had my doubts at first, but it turned out very nicely.
Hey thanks Steven!
I love LOVE! those kind of snaps. I put snaps on tons of stuff..my bathrobe being my favorite because I hated the terrycloth belt part always coming open . Now way less risky when my kids friends are over and I showe
This is really cool😎
I am really enjoying your channel! I am downsizing from a 4br 3ba house to an apartment. My kids are all young adults doing their own thing, & there's just no reason to do the upkeep on a big house. I still like seeing your diy on your own home, as well as your diys on art, furniture, rugs... things I could do. For the past 25 years, I have really perfected utilitarianism with 5 kids! Gosh, they can just tear things up lol! Now soon to be moving into my own apartment, I am very interested in curating pieces for my own place, and remembering what I really like! You mentioned Joanna Gaines & the Silos. Are you a fan from a distance or have you visited Waco? I live in Waco! I really am a California girl. All my kids were born and raised in their earlier years in Cali & MX. I was a NNP when I was diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 cancer. But....I have been cancer-free for more than 10 years! Miracles still happen! My kids & I moved to TX maybe 10 years agoo, as we could not continue living i Southern California without my 6 figure income. Well, if you ever come to Waco, let me know and we can meet up! Like most locals, I have never been to the Silos lol!
It looks great. I thought of doing this hence how I landed here but after seeing all the work go into it. . . 😕. . . I’m just going to buy some faux leather pillows. 😂
Small world, Andrew, I have that exact bed! Also, crazily enough, you have a chair upholstered with what appears to be brown/olive thin stripes...well, that fabric is on my family room sofa!!! Just found your channel & am enjoying it very much. Looking forward to catching up on your past episods. Best regards!
Correction: meant to say fabric is brown/khaki stripe...
Love your bed after such hard work! May it bless you for a long time. You deserve it
Like it, very good!
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Looks great.
Thank you so much for watching!
Nice work!
Looks awesome 👏
There are paint pens. You said something about felt tips. You would have bleed through more likely , if you change your mind and paint over your birds later, or if you do another project of this type in another room.
No need to sew a tube and turn. Just fold in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and fold in allowances and glue in place. You can cut miters in the corners then fold under to eliminate bulk. Then just topstitch around all four edges as your only stitching. You get a flatter, more precise finish. And your hands won’t ache.
Great tip! Thank you for sharing!
So creative as always!
Thank you so much for watching and supporting as always! ❤️
Nice
Thanks!
❤❤❤
I'm new to watching your channel and I have been watching them over the last several days. On this one, I notice that you used faux leather to make your bed straps. Could you have used leather belts in the same way, or just smaller belts for children, just asking. I'm not a sewer, so if I do something similar this in the future, I would probably have to try the easiest option.
Ms. B. Churchill
Yes you could! Check out my leather aprons video… I used a belt for the waistband of the black apron. The key difference is that the belt will likely be too thick and difficult to sew on a standard machine. So leather glue and rivets would be the way to go for that.
Knotty pine colonial furniture is the ugliest. This masks that completely and the fabric really does look like leather. Excellent stiches as well. Half the reason for batting is to let the fabric slide over the foam as you sit on it and ease the tension on the fabric. I have used a clean old thin old quilt before as batting, or any old sheet or junk fabric will work. This isn't that thick but it would be easier on the stitching to use some eyelets on the back to let the air out when compressed, otherwise it is pushed out of the seams. It is so thin and you probably don't sit against it, so it should be ok.
i was envisioning more of a kinkier, black leather moment.
Just use metric...soooo much easier
Luv what you do, however dress sense in America makes me giggle, hope you don't mind me saying, it looks Eastern European. I could imagine you in more funky English art school clothes.
