I had heard a lot of talk about the flash having possibly 150Ws of power back when it was first rumoured/teased, but then it all went back to 100Ws...and it would seem that you were one of the only ones with the guts to leave that original info up, instead of quietly revising their article ;)
Wes, your testing is really useful. I’m considering AD100 vs AD200 as a carry around light source for out of the studio (house) portraits. Still questioning which is the best option. This would be an upgrade vs the “old” Canon 580 Speedlite.
At the end of the day it all depends on how much power you really want I suppose. The 100 has a great deal more latitude in HSS than the 200 (more like the 200 Pro of course).
Hi Wes! Great videos you are making with all this flashes, but i have a question that i did not find the answer in flash manual like on the other godox flashes: what are the number of flashes at each power level until it overheats? I try to decide what to buy between v1pro and ad100pro. V1 pro it fires 3500 flashes at 1/32 power that most of the time i use. Trying to find out if v100pro is at the same level.
Does seem to be the only Godox flash that doesn’t have a thermal throttling table in its manual. But I’d be pretty sure it would be More or at least comparable to the V1 Pro, if you account for differences in power levels. 1/32 on the v1 would be approx 1/64+0.3 on the 100, since the v1 is 67w/s vs100. Additionally the 100 has a fan, which the v Pro lacks But this is all guesswork, unfortunately
Thanks Wes ! complete test battery power, quite impressive !! how many less stop increments power it delivers compared to the AD200 Pro ? (i hope that make sense) Thank you
About one stop less than the 200. But with the focusing head that depends a lot on what you’re doing with it. It can cast a beam of light a lot further, if you’re just shooting it straight. But if it’s just going into a softbox or diffuser or bouncing, it’s simply half the power.
You'd be less of an un-fan of the unlocking procedure if you had ever had the power button of your flash get pushed while jostling around in the case, so when you eventually open the case the battery is dead. The push-then-turn unlocking sequence is mildly annoying, but it makes that almost impossible.
I generally keep my kit in custom cut foam cases, or bags with separate foam compartments, so I can’t say that I’ve ever had anything come on by accident before. But I do get what you’re saying.
I have the GoDox AD200 and the AD300. But, the AD100 Pro is something different. It redefines portable lighting. This lighting system has saved me a 2.5-3.0 pounds of my Macro bag because I do not have to carry the bulky AD200 Pro anymore and the AD100 Pro features a modeling lamp which makes great lighting for the great outdoors of flower and Macro photography... I am curious how you were automating the flash like that... One thing that I have discovered about the AD100 Pro is: why does does the lens turn orange like that in less than two weeks of use? Any idea? Assuming that you have had that issue...The flash still works though... TIA Cheers for the video.👌
Turns orange or turns green? Mine now has a greenish cast that I'm quite sure it didn't have when it started, and most these days seem to ship from the factory that way now. Really unfortunate. The firing was automated with an intervalometer plugged into the camera (a part of a relatively cheap wireless remote trigger/shutter system).
mine often overheats after maybe 40-50 shots... and will require 3-4 sec to fire again. Im not even using it 1/2 power. Its a great light but my problem is it always misfires when overheating. As what I've said, need to wait for 3-4 sec which is annoying. I guess.. you need 2-3 of these lights if you want non stop shooting all day.
@@WesPerry Actually in my country (Yemen), weddings are always held indoors in halls. So do you think that it is ok to have one AD100 pro as a main light in shooting bride and groom portraits? Or should i used v1 instead. I am nwe in learning about wedding photography. I alwasy watch your videos and i learnt alot ,but i need som more gauidnce in lighting.
That cat went through meowcamp. Well disciplined cat.
Hello Wes, thanks for all your AD100 Pro tests. I am planning to order it to complement my 600 Pro and 300 Pros as an additional light.
Great to know that AD100 pro also with good power, thanks Wes 👍
Currently doing my tests, so came to see what others think of it. But what did I see, I saw a screenshot of my article... Haha

Someones had issues with the filter kit AK-R1 ? I need to do more test but I had overheating problem with. Filters seem to block heat. dissipation

Are you shooting HSS or ttl? Those use a lot more power.
@@WesPerry yes.. hss
Are you also using ttl though?
@@WesPerry no. Manual / HSS
Same with me, the overheating is a real problem for me…
My god your cat doesn’t seem to phase by the light , these animal see I the dark .
He’s drawn to the light if anything. If I’m using a flash is pretty easy to get him to be my subject. Seems to enjoy it.
For some reason my AD100pro keeps turning off for some reason, and doesn’t give me the heat warning. Maybe something in the settings I got wrong?
There is an auto shutoff option in the menu. Check the time on that.
mine too, tomorrow i send it back, maybe if they find it faulty, i might try to trade it for an ad200pro
Can it be used in wedding as main light?
In what circumstances? It would be fine for a wedding reception light, but it’s not powerful enough to be a key light outside.

Oh this has 50% more power than a V1
im not sure how the cat feels, but i feel blinded
I’d agree with the cat, not impressed
