      Yes! The boiled version as, unfortunately, I have a Very sensitive olfactory sense. 😶😫 I pressed it thru a sieve, then added some Jessicurl Deep to it and used a whisk to mix, as it had a fairly thick texture to it. Applied it and then put a heat cap over it for 30 minutes. Not to scare anyone but here is an article about arsenic in rice that is worth reading and maybe keep in mind when buying rice: foodrevolution.org/blog/arsenic-in-rice/
      I know your research said white rice is better for the inositol, but I Really am thinking that I'm going to try the black rice when I finish off the white rice I have. I henna my hair so if it deposits any color it would just make my day! Also as an interesting (Bonus!) side effect of the RWR, I had No hair in the drain for two wash days afterwards. Oh! I almost forgot to Thank You for demo'ing the Zotos Bounce cream! I got some and it Really got my curls popping! It even brought out a few curls on the top of my head where I have... indecisive curly/waves. You know the ones, where it depends on their "mood" as to wether they're gonna curl, or wave, or maybe give you a dirty gesture. Yeah, them. 😝😐 😉 Anyway, Thanks for all you do! 😄

      Yes, I've done the boiled version. :) BUT, I didn't deep condition afterwards because I didn't have any. I tried deep conditioning with my regular conditioner, and I don't think it worked. :/ I now have the Jessicurl deep conditioner! So I will be trying that next time. I DO like a homemade deep conditioner using honey, jojoba oil and green tea. It works really well!

    Courtney, I have to say that I am so grateful for you. Your genuine positivity and spirit has been an inspiration on my past year's battle with my natural hair. I, too, have your curl type with fine dense wavy swavy whirly hair, but I have sensitivity to many ingredients, even in CG products. So I have reached more and more to home recipes, and rice water is probably my favorite. It is odd to me too, because for years I thought my hair hated protein, yet it responds so WELL to rice water. Anyways, thanks for sharing. I look forward to the next video!

    I might finally have to try a rice water rinse. You made it look much easier than I thought it was. And my hair wants protein like a body builder. It's fine, naturally high porosity, AND highlighted. I love doing gelatin treatments, and deep conditioning protein treatments, like the Shea Moisture one, but I've never given this a go. Thanks for the easy directions and demo!

    Thank you for this thorough video/instructions/recommendations! Just tried this technique for rice water rinse the other day and I really liked it! This was my first time trying it I feel like my hair loved it and feels stronger. I used what I had on hand for shampoo and conditioner which was Sheamoisture Jamaican black castor oil shampoo and the hair masque from the same line. Will definitely being doing another rice H2O rinse this week since I had about half leftover and so I stuck it in the fridge. I put just 5 drops lavender essential oil in it for fun even tho the rice water smell didn’t bother me :)

    The protein in rice water can't penetrate the hair (you need hydrolyzed protein in commercial products for that) but it's giving you a temporary effect of coating your hair with a glaze and acting as an emollient which is why it feels nice. So if it's a protein treatment you're after you need to use something else.

    • @samyuktaneeraj4026

      If you leave it to ferment then it does work because the fermentation process essentially creates the hydrolyzed protein, which is just another word for amino acids!

    I will wash my hair, then squeeze out as much water as possible, and re-soak it with the rice water, and apply the deep conditioner over top, and let the whole thing sit for 30 minutes. I've also used it on wet refresh or cowash days with a normal conditioner. I definitely don't find that it needs a deep conditioner. On the other hand, we have wildly different porosities, and I can't plop at all. so... different strokes for different folks. :-)

    I have not yet tried a rice water rinse, but after your explanation about fine hair needing protein, I might need to try it! I’ve been deep conditioning once a week for the last three weeks and my hair is just limp afterwards! I guess I need to figure out how to get more protein after a deep condition and/or leave the deep conditioner in for less time. 🤷‍♀️ Just about 2 months into CG and still so confused!

    • @longyarn4288
      @longyarn4288 5 років тому +1

      Sounds like a rice water rinse would help! You could also try a final rinse every two weeks of strong black (or green for lighter hair) tea to which a half a cup of aloe vera juice has been added. Or just use the aloe vera juice as a leave-in. Too much protein and your hair will probably get that hay feel to it when dry.

    Great video, Courtney!! So informative. I don't like to research, so I appreciate the thorough explanation! :) I was wondering: if you did the boiled rice rinse, would it help to do an ACV rinse after the rice has soaked in your hair and before you deep condition? Would that help with the pH level?

    Hi. I love your videos. You have a great attitude and great advice to boot. I wondered if you have ever tried root clipping? Because you rinse and wash your hair upside down the way your hair is at the crown looks sort of upside down as well. I mean that your crown is flat. My crown would always be flat if I did not route clip and my hair is similar to yours.Check out root clipping.
    it could change the way your hair lies and be even more beautiful than it already is.

    HIya Courtney, I really love your videos and your ability to communicate effectively and in an uplifting and encompassing manner.
    I just want to give a bit of insight on the inositol... the inositol white rice (the rice that is stripped of its outer layer) is the LOWEST in this protein. Wild rice is highest, brown, whole grain rice is next and white rice is last.
    I'm not sure why you stated that only white rice has it? I suspect you read it and went with it. However, white rice is basically the refined rice of rices. It's like whole wheat flour vs white flour.
    Anyhow, the rinse, when fermented for 3 day (my climate: Ireland) is what works fantastically well for me. The fermentation is the best method for the inositol, BUT (and please be cautious anyone reading this) is should only smell sour. That's all SOUR. Not putrid. In hot climates (like Texas) I'd wager 1 day out and the rest in the fridge (as long as it's not ice cold).
    As always, thanks for your channel. Best of luck from Ireland. :)

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  4 роки тому +2

      Thank you! I am so glad that you are enjoying the videos! And while you are correct about the protein content of the brown vs the white rice, we are not looking at protein content when considering the benefits of white rice verse brown rice for a rice water rinse. We are actually looking at the concentration of inositol, which is actually a carbohydrate (that mimics protein when applied to the hair). The proteins in rice are actually too large to penetrate the hair shaft and cause any long lasting benefits. The inositol however is small enough to penetrate the hair shaft and help reduce breakage and increase tinsel strength of the hair. I hope that makes sense.

    • @chandranamaskar826
      @chandranamaskar826 4 роки тому +4

      @@SwavyCurlyCourtney I'm sorry I wasn't specific enough. All form of rice (as well as other foods) have inositol. White rice actually has less because its processed. That was my point. As long as you do not cook the rice (any rice) the inositol is present. Brown and wild rice deliver the same benefit as white rice. White rice is stripped of the bran layer and is actually the lowest. Inositol occurs in whole grains, not processed refined grains. You'd be shocked how many foods actually contained inositol. As long as you don't cook it, brown rice has higher amounts of inositol than white for these reasons. I apologise for not being clear.

    Hi Courtney, what if I use water that I boiled the rice in? Would it be as effective?

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  4 роки тому +1

      I have done both. And I find both to work well. The fermentation method lowers the pH of the five water rinse Which can be more gentle on the hair. But using the boil method also works really well.

    Hi, I'm new to CGM. I just ordered Olaplex and also am interested in the rice water rinse. From what I'm understanding the Olaplex would normally be great to use after this rinse, as a deep conditioner, but since I've never done either before how do you suggest my timeline should go? Olaplex, then maybe a couple weeks later do rice water and Olaplex after? I'm just confused and too much at one time might not let me see which works/ doesn't work🤦 (brain overload) Thanks!

      I’ve been using it for about 6 months, and have been super happy with the results! I have a ton of new growth!!! I have very thin, 2a-2b hair. It’s a great way to add protein and it promotes circulation in the scalp. I take the 1/4 c of the seeds (Amazon) and soak them over night. I then cover with water in a medium saucepan and boil. I use the water as a mask that I leave in over night. You can ferment the fenugreek water as well. I’ve also heard of people using rice water to make the fenugreek water. I must warn you, it smells strongly of maple syrup. I don’t mind it at all.

I'm trying to do a natural deep treatment of some kind once a month and an ACV or black tea rinse every other week. I don't want to get too complicated but I love trying all the things! LOL!

      It doesn't damage hair, it can cause protein overload if you use it too much or your hair doesn't need it. Try a stretch test on your wet hair to see if you need protein or moisture, the more it stretches, the more it needs protein

    • @biggiecheese253
      @biggiecheese253 4 роки тому +1

      It's just the most common system for profiling how curly your hair is. The numbers stand for curl patterns, and letters are for how intense those curl patterns are. 1 means straight, 2 means wavy, 3 means curly and 4 means coily/kinky. A 2a would be a loose wavy (similar to a boho wave), a 3a would be a looser curly, a 1a would be board-straight, and a 2c would be a tighter wave pattern but not quite curly.

    My hair was badly burnt by a hairdresser a year ago. It was mid back length and within a month it had all snapped off to my shoulders. I was losing massive clumps daily. I am still trying to grow this damage out. I've done Olaplex treatments, I use linseed gels. I thought because it was damaged, I couldn't use protein treatments but weirdly, once I did, things improved. My waves still look like rats tails. Any tips for clumping when they don't seem to want to.

    So I currently only have a protein deep conditioner (Mielle babassu and mint DC), would I need to get a deep conditioner that’s more moisturizing than protein heavy? My hair seems to love protein so far, but I don’t wanna send my hair into protein overload by doing two protein treatments back to back lol.

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney

      That is a really tricky question. I think you know your hair best. I personally have had better results following up a rice water rinse with a protein free deep conditioner rather than a protein heavy one. But try it and see! If you over do it you can always reset and try again!
