Ill never forget the sheer unparalleled feeling of HYPE that the initial SIGN announcement trailer gave me, at the moment i saw it I yelled for my roommate to come out of his room to see it, i guess i was so loud he thought there was a fire or something
Xrd / Sign still looks great after all these years Whilst I don’t enjoy it as much as I do Strive or +R I definitely have an appreciation for it, I think most people (including myself) credit seeing this game’s Instant Kills or Supers for getting them into Guilty Gear ❤
My favorite thing that popped out of sign was definitely the music, while I did actually watch the entire story mode, I will never stop simping for the song marionette, it’s critically underrated
I remember first seeing the very first Guilty Gear Xrd Sign trailer. It felt so surreal at the time thanks to Guilty Gear not having a new game for a while at the time, also because of Blazblue pretty much being Arc System Works's main fighting game at the time too and also for those new graphics that blew my mind. I remember seeing the trailer, thinking they were sprites at first but then once that camera started to rotate around Sol and Ky once they clashed, it really caught me off guard and made my teenage brain go crazy. I was hyped and bought the game day one. I am so glad that the Guilty Gear series is still going on and still giving us content since I love all these characters, stories, and the dedication that the developers gave to these games, and of course have to mention the best music in fighting games but that was always a staple of the series since day one.
I respect this game. It was the start of the current visual design of GG and was the last traditional one (counting the revisions with it) before Strive. It was also technically the second GG game I played (first was +R on PSP). I just wish whenever these games were brought up, it wouldn't devolve into an argument putting down Strive. XRD is a legendary game. It innovated in ways that out ArcSys on the map as a premier fighting gane developer instead of just a niche one. But just because Strive is a more simplified game doesn't mean it isn't part of the same series. It's still nuttier than most fighting games out there. If people don't like Strive, Rev 2 has rollback. Only on PC but it's there and available to those with the resources. But with how popular Strive is to this day nearly three years past it's release date, it's no less a GG title. At least in my personal opinion
I don't mind Strive hating in vids specifically about previous GG titles and highlighting the differences between older and modern versions. I haven't played most of the GGs but I have played A LOT of XX on Dreamcast and have Rev 2 but I got that one later on and didn't play enough of it to love it. But loved the tutorial, lobby and over all look obviously. I like Rev 2, but I got Strive mid Season 2 and hardly ever looked back. I play Rev 2 like twice a year now, but for only about 30 minutes. Strive is just simply more enjoyable for me.
Popular? No. Great? Yes. Strive is doing fine right now with an active playerbase and a recently announced season 4. You want to get in, now is the time.
I find the differences in touch and feel between fighting game titles and franchises fascinating. The unique tactile experience of FGs has always been a significant draw for me. Despite that long held appreciation, when I got SF6 I was actually surprised at how heavy and deliberate motions and actions feel compared to GG controls. When I play GG it feels more like my fingers are light and flying, like playing a piano. When I play SF it feels more like typing a stern email, and using the stick is heavier and more solid like operating a backhoe. In general SF feels more weighty and muscle-y(but not really "slower"). Which is why I was very surprised to find that playing SF6 made me better at Strive. It was surprising to me because after decades of primarily SF it took me a LONG time to "accelerate" my brain for anime fighters like GG and BlazBlue, but then after SF6 Drive Gauge sheninigans I felt like my brain was accelerated again when moving between the games.
Oh yeah, SF6’s insane mental load AND the demands to respond to/be wary of the intense drive options can definitely keep you warmed up for anime air dashers.
The initial reveal trailer with the camera spinnin around to show that the game was in fact 3d was so hype to see after not seeing a new gg game in so long! It was absolutely torture to see Japanese arcade footage for months waiting for xrd sign to release worldwide on consoles but i loved watching shitty, over the soulder cam footage of arcades just to watch xrd lol...The best part about the game too for me was the ps3 port. At the time i didnt buy a ps4 yet so being able to play xrd on last gen at the time made the game way more accessable.
How did i never knew about Millia Eyes stuff before. Also Slayer's Hair looks so weird in Sign version of png, so glad they change it in later versions.
Please correct the name usage, altho this video claims to be about Xrd Sign, you delve into Revelator exclusive mechanics. I was excited because I thought you were going to delve into an older version of Xrd that is now relegated to stage differences comparisons and for lore heads but got disappointed that this wasn't the case. It should also be noted that Xrd Sign specifically refers to the original home release of Xrd and is not its very first iteration as it had the usual balance changes that console FGs would get back in the day from releasing months after the arcade versions.
Xrd Rev2 is my favorite fighting game ever (although BBCF and UNI2 give it a run for its money). I remember seeing the trailer for Sign when it was announced and my mind was just blown when the 3D graphics were shown off in it. Still one of my all time favorite trailers. The gameplay of the Xrd series is just so intense and fun, and really only the other two parenthetically mentioned games above can match it for me. It really feels like Xrd Rev2 was the last fighting game I truly loved before the genre started going down a path that I just didn't appreciate as much, until UNI2 this year, which has more of what I look for in these games (I know UNICLR came out after Rev2 but it didn't have good online so I didn't play it that much. Thank goodness for UNI2 with rollback though). Always happy to return to Xrd and mash on Slayer 6P and Pilebunker.
I know GG old heads that, to this DAY, hate Xrd and Strive. That’s when I realized a good chunk of the fan base is more motivated by hate than any love for the for the franchise.
As much as I enjoy strive, xrd just hits different and I still hold out hope for a return to form eventually. Not sure if it’s realistic after strive being so successful but I could see them potentially making a “rev 3”
Some fun facts about Xrd! Xrd's character speed, attributes, and move data was actually forked from Guilty GEar XX Accent Core #RELOAD. A popular example is Sol's runspeed and acceleration being the exact same in Reload and Xrd. This allowed legacy muscle memory and techniques to still be used in Xrd, to the point where at the beginning of Xrd's lifespan most people watched XX footage for matchup viewing, which was very neat. It is unfortunate that Xrd never sold well, causing support for the game to be dropped in favour of creating Guilty Gear Strive, which began development as another expansion to Xrd, like how Revelator and REV2 were to SIGn and Revelator respectively.
Just ordered this game for ps4 ❤❤ haven't played it since the last few years of the ps3 hopefully I'll remember how to play I do own the sequels already can't wait ❤❤
@@mallow2902 BlazBlu is ridiculous, but I'm sorry, the story of Guilty Gear makes little sense when it's all put together. Half the games I'm not even sure who the bad guy is. (And don't tell me Sol! I swear to God...) I'm not sure why half the people are doing what they're doing, or what they're even doing or where they were when they were doing. The story spans thousands of years, at least 3 dimensions, and I'm still not entirely sure WHY ANY OF IT HAD TO HAPPEN!! By comparison, I know the basic outline of the story of BlazBlu at the very least. I know all about the Black Beast, Ragna, the grimoires, seether, all that shit. I think Guilty Gear makes much less sense.
So glad for more content for the older GG games. For me, Strive really dropped the ball and was just such a huge disappointment all around. It almost felt like the creative leads were outright "trying" to insult former fans of the series and make the game as un-Guilty Gear as possible while maintaining just a shallow surface veneer of the series identity.
I just bought this game and love it, but I don’t think anybody plays anymore😢 I expected to see at least one player online in Japan but it’s all dead servers I saw
