Hearing that still gives me chills. The sad irony and tragedy that is the Death Korps of Krieg.

Turns out that bloody trench warfare isn't such a relic of the past these days... It's just the fallback whenever the armored vehicles get too shot up. We have to look at 40k through a new lens.
It's the movie "All quiet in the Western Front" All day and all night.
' Krieg ' is the German word for war. So there's that.

The Death Korps of Krieg, where our motto is "Pyrrhic victory is best victory!"
In the grim darkness of the far future, Pyrrhic victory is the _only_ victory.
That applies to literally every human faction at least as long as we speak guardsmen
@@zawarudo1041space marine:"we cannot afford 40 casualty". Corpsmen:"40k death, damn that's bad but we can go on". Kriegs:"40k death, lucky bastards I am still here"
The Kriegsman knows no fear, because before his first battle, he has accepted that he is already dead.
The dead don't suffer, the Kreigsmen know nothing but suffering
That's wrong though. Kreigers aren't completely immune to fear just like how sisters of battle aren't completely incorruptible. At the Siege of Vrak, we've already seen the complete breakdown and routed of the 158th Regiment of the 12th Line. Remember in the end no matter how indoctrinated and brainwash they are. They're still just human in the end.
This is false. They feel fear and they don't accept death. But the honor duty before treason. As Japanese soldiers have done for thousands of years committing to suicide if they fail their Shogun or Emperor. They slice their guts and if they are lucky in some cases get their heads chopped off by a trusted ally. That's how the kriegsmen are. They aren't superhuman super soldiers. They value their lives but believe anything the emperor or officers command for them to do is for the better for the emperor and humanity. As Russians have always had strict 227 No Retreat orders in acts on penal battalions the same applies to the Star Wars clone troopers killing the Jedi from being ordered to do so. They are loyal to the cause it doesn't mean they aren't scared. And it shows very clearly as well how you have no idea what the kriegsmen are because you don't know their training style. Since you say before his first battle yet in krieg you're entire life is based on working in a factory until you're old enough to train and then you are hunted down and shot at and blown up by you're instructors to try and kill you incase you aren't strong enough or have the set skills to survive. You're first experience wearing a Krieg uniform is based on nearly dying. The statement you copied and pasted from Wikipedia on the kriegsmen is just false.
@@inquisitorsteele8397I can't agree with calling them brainwashed. They literally fight and die to keep humanity alive. Unlike real life places like America with their propaganda kriegsmen serve a actual purpose as all guardsmen do and they die fighting the galaxies greatest threats to humans. As well retreating and routing isn't a sign of humanity even though I agree they do have human emotion routing in general or retreating Is literally what all animals do in a fight with their pack mates to reorganize and regroup for another attack. It's not a fear system it's based around falling back to a better position to gain the upper hand when you're men are split too far or can't seem to communicate you fall back regroup count your numbers and send another charge in after giving you're men a second to breathe. Officers in world war 1, world war 2 German officers, 18th 17th 16th even 2nd century officers would always send their men out of their trenches and dug in positions in attack formations then fall back after small skirmish battles to reorganize regroup and weaken the enemy. The Germans in world war 2 organized this effectively and so did the Vietnamese in Vietnam. Causing massive allied and NATO casualties in both those wars. You hit the enemy give 'em a good slap on the cheek and run off and come from a different angle and they won't see it coming. That's even what Calvary was used for in every war up until world war 2. Flanking the enemy then routing out then pushing in again when they're enemy gets comfortable. It's an amazing strategic tactic that we've used forever as wolves do. As well as lions. And more. The Kriegsman in most cases is just doing the most beneficial thing no matter how humane it seems it's actually not. Like killing wounded soldiers isn't something they do to put them out of their misery they just do it to ensure they don't take prisoners and don't get shot in the back. They have no mercy and that stems from teachings at a young age how they don't need to worry about hurting another persons feelings. Real children are taught don't hit someone kriegs children are taught kill each other for a piece of bread. There's a big psychological difference to consider between real people and this 41st millennium soldiering in factual evidence provided by 19th century warfare and 18th century you can see men used line formations in battle they'd literally stand there and March into hails of bullets as men all around them that they would eat and laugh with daily would be slaughtered like nothing and they'd keep marching and prepare to fire their weapons and shoot the enemy while knowing they could be next to be hit by hundreds of musket balls. So even shown back then men ages 20 to 25 equipped for the conscription or draft to Americans would be trained to be very easily able to take orders. So kriegsmen aren't even far from reality yes they have human emotion. But they have extreme restraint and most of their humanity such as sadness and regret is out of the question not there. They don't feel mercy for killing others or doing what they think is right which by modern psychological terms is considered a psychopath. but that's all soldiers in all history ever to exist by modern logic. So yes they are men who have feelings they are human and they do know what they are doing but they come from a different planet a different way of life and a completely different way of survival then we have as modern day humans. So No I'd say these men aren't brainwashed they are simply trained differently and brought up in a different way and if that's called brainwashed it means we all are. As I said they only route not as fear sets in but so they can regroup reorganize and prepare to attack the enemy in skirmish combat.
@@GhilieDawg “As the artillery fire hammered down it caused the utter collapse of the 158th regiment's attack in sector 50-45. The Commissars amongst the retreating assault squads demanded that the men stand firm and push on, summarily executing the first men to take any steps backwards. In return, several Commissars were shot out of hand by their own side as the shredded assault companies scurried back to the safety of their own trenches. At the parapet the first wave collided with the second wave as they moved forwards to begin their advance. Fighting broke out as the officers of the second wave tried to force passage forwards. After only a couple hours the 158th regiment's attack had disintegrated into shambles. For the regiment's abject failure, the colonel and his staff would be arrested and eventually executed. The regiment was then disbanded by the 88th Siege Army's commissars. All the survivors would be sentenced to serve amongst the Penal Legions.”
That's hardly what I would call well retreated, they're literally fled in disgraceful manner and murder thier own comrades-in-arm to get away to safety. I'm say that they're human in the end because it was common perception that Kreigers are more like fearless war machines without any trace of emotion rather than human which isn't entirely correct.
The death korps of sleep
All hail Luetin the lore master of the Imperium
Absolutely love your videos luetin, some of the most detailed stuff out there and we can tell how much u put into these, thank you
I am reminded of the Guard novel Dead Men Walking. An officer character is captured by chance by a few civilians and they plant themselves in front of a column of Kreigsmen. Officer shouts at them to halt while the kidnappers scream demands. Then they are all gunned down. And as the officer lie there dying, he feels a quartermaster retrieving the officers wargear and struggles to keep his sword.
It was the commissar of the regiment
My hypothesis is that the Korpsmen are definitely humanborn, but the conditions of the Krieg population leave them doomed to crippling mutation and frequent womb death, resulting in the necessitation of the Vitae Wombs. They aren't cloned directly, so much as they are artificially infused with stable DNA of the late Colonel. This fills in the damaged parts of the genetic structure and instills the resulting Korpsman with the steady calm of Jurten, but the Korpsmen's own innate noticing that they are effectively missing part of their soul (the part lost to mutation, expunged and substituted with the Vitae Womb's generation processes) leads to them being suicidally aggressive. Were it not for Jurten's devotion pushing them to a cause, they would be savage bastards who turned on humans the moment they had the chance to.
Imho they are no longer pure humans. Due to the radiation providing more mutations and their war providing selection they had moved past original humans. They adapted to the toxic enviroment, they adapted to neverending artilery showers.
They see themselves as traitors to the humanity and hate themselves. They hope to earn their place by the emperor by sacrifice. They want to die for Him.
But why did they adopt Nazi insignia and aesthetics mixed in with a heavy dash of Kaiser Wilhelm.
@@The_ZeroLine check your history dude. Korpsemen took ww1 aesthetics, not nazi

Necrons and Krieg in the same book, can't go wrong!
I would think that the Kriegsman are not quite identical clones, just clones using Yutin's DNA similar to the Votann. So all of the Kriegsman would look "related", but not identical.
There’s rumour that the Death Korps Of Krieg was allotted the the largest Tithe of the whole empire. One that was unsustainable for a planet. Designed for exterminate them for their heresy.
The Population of Krieg then Doubled their imperial Tithe in the quest for forgiveness.
The only way to do this is Krieg basically has 2 societies. The human society that works the factories and the clone society that are produced on a inhuman industrial scale. Who age at twice the rate of a normal human because they will die in their first battle within 5 years of birth. Before they have even stepped off their drop ship their replacement is already on its way. Their replacement is being spilled from the Vat of protein and starch.
They are brainwashed from their first hours of birth to the point their are issued equipment still hot from the press and crammed on a transport to whichever hellscape they have been assigned.
They’re not human whatever humanity was left from the end of the kreig civil war has been cloned out. They’re biological weapons in a gas mask. Who believe that their life is worth one foot 2 bolter rounds and corpse to keep the men behinds feet out of the knee deep mud on the battlefield. Churned up by the unending drone of and meat grinder of the Krieg artillery corps.
Well that isn´t exactly correct the Kin actually use multiple dna samples instead of one. They often modify new clones which explain why clones created from the same dna can look quite different. The novel Krieg all but confirms that the DK are just clones of Jurten. A Inquisitors apprentice at one point orders a trio of DK to unmask, something the DK were hesitant to do but after some pressure did. We never know what he saw but after that he was determint to get permission to go to Krieg himself to get some answers. He ends up critically injured shortly afterwards due to a Ork attack and is found by multiple DK but instead of helping him they do nothing but stare at him, seemingly waiting for him to expire.

Clones are like overalls for demons in 40k which is why the emps was against it, but the korps members go without showing their face and not holding a name. Which seems a great way to avoid the warp beasts for some reason. It was mentioned in other works. total guess
names hold power in 40k its why (from what ive seen) calling a demon by its real name will have one of two effets, it will be either somewhat cautious...or fly into a berserk fury that would make horus look like a kitten

I love the idea that all the Death Korps are clones of Colonel Jurten.
Sounds to me like the reason Greel really wanted the Kreigsman to be clones of Jurten was that he saw Jurten as one hell of a weapon in human form. His efficiency and logical thinking was very machine-like and probably highly valuable to Greel in that regard. Greel likely saw him as an extremely valuable asset to maintain.
I think his name is spelled greil but not 100% sure
blessed be the Emperor’s most trusted Remembrancer, for he has granted us the gift of our favorite mad lads of the Militarum.
The theory on how they churn out so many soldiers is always a fun topic, not because its a good thing but mainly because of the mystery. With how effective the Death Korps is I would imagine that the womb things are completely synthetic. One or several hundred thousand unfortunate souls turned into... unlucky servitors... Is a set of hands that arent making weapons or turning a wrench.
Always an absolute pleasure to listen to these. Hard to believe you were a Squad or general FPS channel once upon a time LOL
A hand turning a wrench is s womb not optimally sustained for the creation of superior clone soldiers. Other worlds can turn wrenches. No place but Krieg produces Kriegsmen
I can imagine Jurten in his last moments, looking up at his constant compatriot Greel approaching him with tubes for tissue samples, desperately trying to choke out his opposition to the techpriest's plan.
even more grimdark, harvesting his corpse later. serious decomposition takes a few days to get going, and dna lasts thousands of years. Greel would have plenty time to harvest the corpse of his friend for samples, especially with tech like stasis pods

Well, don’t forget callidus (I think? The crazy ones that are essentially just blenders on the battlefield) assassins. They’ve been shown to straight up beat space marines multiple times. Now, of course, they also are extremely unstable, so they aren’t anywhere near as good long-term. But short-term, they’re weirdly close to custodes in terms of sheer power. Wild

God I love the WW1 German aesthetic of The Death Korps of Krieg.
Except it's not German......
It's a broad mix from across the nation's that fought. The only distinctly German thing is the name.
Puttees - British, adopted by the French, and only by late war with the Germans as they'd seen their usefulness from the Brits
Jacket - french style pin-back (used by other nations but primarily France)
French style rifle bayonets - German bayonets were much bigger and broader, almost like a machete on the rifle

On the subject of the vat womb, a parallel I'd like to drawn is the one with dune. In dune one of the faction creates gholas, wich are artificial human, the gholas are created in axlotl tank. Those tank are as we learn pretty late in the series actual woman made into reproductive tank. Since 40k is drawing a lot of inspiration from dune, axlotl tank and vat womb always seemed close and pretty similar to me. And it does make it pretty dark too.
Ya the twiloxu are pretty Warhammer40k
Deamonculaba?
@@ordohereticus5530 from what I know of the daemonculaba, yes and no, they are similar, but the vibe is different, idk, one of the interesting part of gholas is that they have the memory of the person they've been cloned from, so it is not strictly speaking a newborn, but a reproduction of someone else/a dead (Wich for me links pretty well with the all I am jurten thing from the krieg Book). Daemonculaba are "just" reproductive factories. But both are close yes.
Krieg is one of the things in the 40k Lore that anchor me as a fan. The stories I write in my head to pass the time if not star then at least prominently feature Kriegers (Plural of Krieg?) even along side Astartes, Sisters of Battle, and the Inquisition. I only hope one day that this part of the universe can be properly expanded upon in movies and games.
Kriegans. Kriegites. Kriegish. Kriegian. Kriegese. Kriegalian. Kriegican. Kriegonian. Lol the first choice seems best. Krieger is warrior in German so kriegan would seem to fit the faction name. Like how we don’t call English Anglicans, despite the similar root.
I really wonder why we haven't gotten a Krieg game. Heck, a traditional RTS would even work: they'd fight and die as ordered.
"Kriegers" and "Kriegsmen" are the most common demonyms in the various books and codices.
@@GaldirEonai kriegsmen, didn’t think of that
Krieger makes the most sense, because it's the german word for warrior.
This isn't ever ASMR because it's too awesome to fall asleep to.
I like the clone idea, but once I stumbled across an idea that I like even more. The Vitae Wombs are first used to purify them of genetic mutations, and second, they are used to dramatically increase the rate of fraternal and identical twins in utero. So they are not all Jurten, just swarms of similar looking Brothers and sisters, although it's quite possible he's the "Y" DNA contributor in many cases like Gengis Khan. This also supports the idea that many of them are essentially child-soldiers because war is all they have ever known.
I like this idea bc it sort of fits with the WW1/WW2 european cultural aesthetic, as well as the 30 Years war with the Protestants v. Catholics.
Hey, Leutin, I just wanna say that your channel is my favorite one I've stumbled on while browsing the site.
I got into 40k when I was 12, started collecting Necrons and CSM around when 3rd Edition came out and I've been hooked ever since. I used to spend hours reading and even just browsing the wikis clicking link after link soaking all of the weirdness in. Your channel brings me back to those days of endlessly immersing myself in 40k. If I were to ever make a YT channel, it'd have to be one like yours. I love your content. Thanks for sharing it, my man.
Hope to a great new year the this awesome channel. Extremely happy that I’ve found this channel and became immersed in 40k!Proud to be part of the Luetin sleep gang as well!
Was just sitting here laying in bed looking for the perfect lore video to watch tonight and the master himself grants us something special for sure.
In one Novel I read it talks of a commissar and the last surviving Kriegsman in a squad speaking. In it he convinces the boy to take off his helmet, and you see just that, that he is very young, barely out of his teens of at all. However, he also talks about seeing the underground bunkers where there are in fact women who look horrible and pale. They aren't trained to be soldiers, but their lives aren't much better since their sole purpose is to essentially to birth babies and look after them for only a couple years or so before they begin their training as deathkorps. The novel was called "Dead Men Walking" (I'd give it a 5/10 it started off so good and different but eventually turned into a 40k book).
At any rate, he made no mention of vitae wombs that I remember specifically, and this doesn't actually contradict the whole cloning thing since they could be in some way artificially inseminated. On the other hand I had read a short story that was -retarded- regarding training on the home world of krieg where as part of the final stage of training the Death Korps of Krieg would engage in an actual battle against somehow genetically impure/weak rejected recruits. In this stupid and pointless fight where valuable material and manpower are wasted so the exported Korps can technically have fought a battle, it was revealed a genestealer made it to the planet... somehow, and injected its xeno-spunk into one of the rejected kriegsmen, and it was ironic since it attempted to propagate a tyranid infestation on a man who would never pass on his genetic material in any way. The story explicitly stated that men would or would not be passing on their genes, therefore definitely not clones.
Possibly the case that they initially boosted the population using clone soldiers and phased it out or they simply pump out clones at a steady rate along with normally birthed humans. Food for thought.
Henry cavill needs luetin on his writing team for his 40k series
I concur.
Yes please that needs to happen

Really love your work. As someone who is relatively new to 40K, I'm really soaking up all the information. Thanks for making this such an enjoyable experience. 😁
Same I am finding it to be my favorite universe so far. I hope they don't ruin it the more people start to like it.
@@elix901 GW always finds a way to mess up XD

Praise the Omnissiah!
A 90 minute Krieg breakdown?
A nice Christmas gift, thank you Luetin!!
First time coming across your channel.
The fact it was over an hour and on one of my favorite regiments i had a lot to digest and critique because I love lore!
Well, just finished watching and all I have to say is... This was fantastically done! Thank you for your hard work and attention to the setting of 40k as it is, opposed to ours today.
Something an eldar would never say but think: 'not bad, for a mortal'
Never stop doing your thing Luetin, you're a master at it.
What a perfect time to drop this video, literally less than a day after I take an interest in the Kriegsmen. I'm very new in general to Warhammer and I'm hella thankful Luetin is making such quality stuff, thanks for all the hard work!
"Collateral is my favorite kind of damage!"

Thank you luetin09 for this wonderful video. The death korps of krieg is my favorite guardsmen regiment so I’m glad you finally got to make a video about them.
The great Lore Master has blessed us with a pre Christmas video! Thank you sir! Hopefully you’ve managed to throw the Inquisition off of your trail
All praise the Omnissiah! Luetin has blessed us with a truly wonderous gift of lore! In all seriousness Luetin you and Occulus are my go to's for 40k lore. The depth and passion you put into your videos are second to none.
the chairman is 40ks chris chan
Got into 40k when I first came across your Emperor of Man lore video, got hooked and am digging trenches with my favorite regiment.
And now you bless us with this gift.
*happy gasmask noises*
Ever since I found out about Death Korps of Krieg, I have been waiting for you to make a dedicated video about them. Thank you very much! I shall watch this video a dozen or so times in the next month, at least.
As a German, these badass Prussian-inspired characters make me proud ha ha! Thanks for another excellent video Loremaster!
When you really look at a Krieger, the only really "German" feature of their uniform is the coal-scuttle helmet, they take a lot of inspiration from all armies on the Western Front of the Great War, and personally, I think their uniforms are most inspired by the French army, what with the blue coats and all.
@@JoetheDilo1917 All their vehicles have german names. Brunhilde, Blitz, Götterdämmerung...
Krieg= war in german
@@hd7vjxv5dnlws91vt True, I'm just saying their actual uniforms look more French than German
@@JoetheDilo1917 mate I'm sorry but even with all the goodwill in the world just acknowledge that you're wrong here in this particular instance. From the names of the locations to the protagonists to their helmets and their military dress it is way more WW1 German than anything else.
@@mr.goldenproductions_0143 Or you could actually take a look at WW1 uniforms.
The Krieg trenchcoat is of French design, their gas mask is of English design, and their boots are of French design as well.
Even the packs they wear are more French inspired than German.
Their helmets are a mashup of the Adrien and Stahlhelm.
And this is just the infantry.
The reason the Kriegers have German names is because they're supposed to be a mashup of every WW1 army and so little of their uniform is Prussian in design that the German elements of WW1 are therefore shown through naming conventions.
A great big thank you for providing these in-depth and thoughtful glimpses into the background and lore of the grimdarkness of the 41st millennium.
Also, my new headcanon is now that like the Pyro from Team Fortress 2, the Kriegsters are actually entirely unhinged and delusional, envisioning themselves gleefully prancing amidst unicorns and rainbows while casually lopping off heads with an entrenching tool or immolating trenches full of "traitorous rebels" guilty of the sin of wanting a better life for themselves and their childrens' children. You can't convince me otherwise anymore.
Dark tide got me into Warhammer, and these videos have helped a lot in filling in the gaps.
Dude I just started looking into these guys yesterday perfect timing!
Was thinking about renting a movie but nope this beats it. Always good to get a refresher on one of the Emperors most zealous/insane regiments.
So many times I have struggled to sleep, listning to your voice, the way you talk. Has helped me fall asleep countless times. And I thank you for that
I imagine that kriegsmen dont all look exactly like our boy, but all have his key features. Kinda like a bunch of sons will all look similar yet lightly different.
Youre a gem. Hope Henry has someone like you on his team 😊
Thank you lore master, for your stories ease my pains while I carry on my duties for the Emperor
As someone who got into 40k heavily because of your amazing lore videos, and as a fan of the Krieg, I am beyond thankful for the work you put into this video. It's a fantastic primer to the Krieg as a faction. Thank you a ton for this gift just before the holidays.
Merry Christmas, Happy Jaunicha, Happy Kwanzaa, and a very Happy Holidays no matter which one you practice!
You have been one of my favorite 40K commentators. I make sure to watch your videos because you provide good content and lore explanation. I really appreciate that you are willing to speculate, while exclaiming it to be so, and clarifying whit is cannon, and what is not. What would 40K be without everyone having their own read on it?
Simultaneously, I am happy to give you extra views while napping! So much other content is jarring and incoherent in a way where I wake up when it is not your video. The only downside is that I have to comb your posts' so I do not nap through good new content and mistake it as old stuff.
Love all your new stuff, gladly "syndicating" your old content, LOL!!!
Thanks for all the videos this year Leutin09, you're a talented creator and your insights into WH40K are thought provoking. I am suspicious regarding your lack of content on our brave, noble, great commissar Ciaphas Cain. But, I'm sure you have your reasons.
Perfect timing, hoping to start a Krieg Kill Team for Christmas and this video and the audiobooks are just what I needed. Great work as always Luetin, happy holidays!
I've only recently got into 40K, and just wanted to say your videos have really helped me get up to speed with what can be some pretty tangled lore for a newbie! I find them fascinating! So, thanks!
I can't but notice the similarity in the history of the civil war that gave birth to the Deathkorp to that of the planet Skaro, in one of my favourite Dr' Who stories, "Genesis Of The Daleks"...thanks for this lore and background. I'm new to 40k, have downloaded the free core rules and I want to make a unit of Deathkorps, mainly using surrogate models. They have always held a weird fascination for me. Thanks for the work you put into this!
Closing out the year with our 40k professor. The amount of information I’ve got about this stuff from you is staggering. Thank you.
For this years Sanguinala I want a gas mask and a shovel
Luetin you are bloody amazing when it comes to 40k lore videos. I sat here spellbound at every word and image because the death corps is one of my favorite factions. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication, I wish I could do more then just say thanks and leaving a like.
The Praetorian guard certainly dont get enough love, could you do a lore video on them?
I discovered this channel just a few months ago, and I'm absolutely loving it. Thank you so much for your hard work, and I hope you have a happy holidays \o/
Nothing relaxes me more before bedtime than a new lore video from lore master Luetin about entire regiments of borderline suicidal maniacs ,ready to die for a mummified , all powerful father figure ,who is slouching on the most expensive chair of all time . Gotta love 40k .
As always great work! Can't even imagine How much time you take just to gather all the lore.
I havent even started watching past the intro, but i know that as always ill be completely absorbed in it, love the work you do
Most anticipated video from you yet! Thanks for doing this one dude. Plus getting some audiobooks about these epic servants of the Emperor is even better.
Yessssss one of my favorite guard regiments, thanks Luetin!
It was good to see an image from the Fifth Element after all these years. Amazing video.
I love listening to your videos when I’m doing chores around the house or as white noise when I’m sleepy and trying to sleep
Luetin, this is the best birthday gift I could have ever asked for
FINALLY !!!
May the holy God-Emperor of Mankind bless your benevolent soul, Luetin.
This quality of content.. we are truly blessed
Thank you once again, Luetin
Happy holidays to you and yours
Great video on Death Korps of Krieg! I had just finished "Krieg" so this was a good recap and discussed things I might have missed in the reading.
Those leg wraps are called Puttees and they originally was to prevent the pant leg openings from catching and so tripping, and ripping the trousers, on barb wire, wire post, and rocks, ect ect ect.. I do WWI reenactments so the Death Corps has the strongest connection with me in the 40K universe.
Don't forget providing ankle support on the march, to keep the top of the boots sealed, and even provide rudimentary water resistance for the foot
nice, something amazing to listen to while having to work at 2am thanks, and cheers luetin
I was so happy to see a Krieg video, until I got to the end and saw Doge. Absolutely made my day, Masterpiece.
I was wondering if I was the only person who had seen that! 😄
Happy new years, Luetin. Thank you.
