- Fred Southwick required an above the knee amputation on September 18, 2012. He has rowed his entire life and now thanks to Kyra Ketnick, his prosthetists, he has a free knee prosthesis that allows him to row. He competed in the Southern Erg Sprints in Melbourne, Florida for the first time February 1st, 2014. He won his race with a time of 3:53.6 for 1000 meters. His goal next year is to break the world record of 3:45. Only 8 seconds to go!
