Above the knee amputee competes in the Southern Ergometer Sprints

Fred Southwick required an above the knee amputation on September 18, 2012. He has rowed his entire life and now thanks to Kyra Ketnick, his prosthetists, he has a free knee prosthesis that allows him to row. He competed in the Southern Erg Sprints in Melbourne, Florida for the first time February 1st, 2014. He won his race with a time of 3:53.6 for 1000 meters. His goal next year is to break the world record of 3:45. Only 8 seconds to go!
