I have been practicing Shorin Ryu since I was 19. I am now 68. I have been given many gifts from this training.

Thank you for sharing the information, I had been to Okinawa last year for attending international karate seminar. It was great experience ! All the senior masters of Okinawa were present . I would like to visit Okinawa once again !

Loved, loved, loved, all of these episodes. I would love to see more like this. I was stationed in Okinawa while in the military for 6 months, unfortunately, never got a chance to study there. Big dissapointment in my life.

I did the Goju style when I was taking Karate lessons! This brought back so many memories from when senei's would come from Okinawa, Japan to our little dojo in Canada to help us with our karate and to tell us stories :]

Laurence Lance, can I ask you which lineage of Shorin- Ryu? I have returned after 21 years of lack of training and discovered Matsubayashi- Ryu.

The problem is that many styles of Karate in mainland of Japan are different from the styles of Karate in Okinawa. If you want to learn real authentic Karate, you should go to Okinawa not to mainland of Japan unless the teacher you would study under in Japan is from Okinawa.

Goju-ryu's seisan was actually kururunfa, kururunfa was actually seisan, I wonder what else they got wrong

It should be noted that the Goju Ryu master performed the kata Kururunfa first when the others perfomed Seisan and Seisan second when the announcer said he would do Kururunfa. Most likely a confusion between the announcer and himself.

are these kate bad for the joints?? I mean for example shorin ryu kata with straight arm and powerful tsuki seems not really healthy to me, or do I have a wrong impression? thanks!

Okinawa-or more correctly ryu kyu islands was NOT a japanese territory when karate was invented

Sadly the fascism continues in their superior racism. Okinawa did not create Karate. The word is actually a false method. Kara was added to say China did not influence us! But this is false. Okinawa called it Tsiao Di and in Japanese it became Tou Te. But the hatred of China brought them to remove the "Tou" - Tong/T'ang Dynasty to refer to Chinese (Tong) fighting. As an Okinawa-te teacher I acknowledge this and refer to Tong Sau.

Obviously you are mis-infromed, Grand Master Fusei Kise of Shorin Ryu Kenshin Kan teaches the origins of Shorin Ryu as coming from Shaolin. So get your information straight before you spew your racist B.S. Okinawa-te is not a recognized school from Okinawa. Shorin is actually an Okininawan Translation of Shaolin Meaning Green Forest, Kenshin Kan meaning empty hand. Learn the origins, all 4 styles originated from Shaolin and from one Teacher.
