Oh Btw, they had mics attached to coping in the ASA and X-Games back in the day. The side screws on the frames were also protruding and weren´t recessed in the frame, hence the noise you hear on those old ASA and X-Games videos. And yeah, I bet it feels awesome!
ahhhhh the metal on metal sound takes me back to the old days of senate aluminium grind plates and my home made aluminium soul sliders, defo wanna give these a try 👍👍
I'm such a weirdo: I'm terrified of riding flat, because I skate bowls and wheelbite sounds like death, but I also learned most of my grinds with little to no wax, because it made the lock feel solid with no slip out and I would just skate faster to grind. Weird stuff happens when you're the only blader at the park.
I spend mist of my time carving and getting air in bowls, I only skate flat 😂 falling is scary but usually just slide down. Yes occasional wheel bite but most of the time it simply slow you down.
Man… your videos got me to pick up skating again at 39. Thanks man. I moved out of Pittsburgh a year ago but maybe I’ll catch you around when I’m visiting 🙌
Glad to have you back and Best review of the Solas so far. Comprehensive and skater oriented. It´s clear to me now why I should get one haha! Great stuff man, as usual!
Great review man. Some similarities and differences in our experiences for sure. I loved the thin walls for topsides, found it made a big difference. Didn't find the shock an issue, but maybe Adapts are already so unforgiving I didn't notice. These are my daily driver for now fore sure. Thanks for another great episode! 👍
@@coreyenglish8706 love my Adapts there Incredibly responsive and comfortable! Definitely worth the money, especially considering that $500 is not an unusual price point for skates these days.
I'm glad someone said it about missing soul tricks by 2mm haha it's ridiculous! If you can lock on with a soul you should be able to do the same with an M12 or a VII - I find the difference comes in once you've locked on, how you stay on with a smaller or bigger soul.
I'd love to hear your comparison of the Fluid 5s and the Them frame. I love the Them frame but I am super tempted to try the Fluid 5. Currently skating the FLT4 but they sound super hollow compared to the Them frames.
If you’re ever in the area and get the chance, you MUST skate the Lauridsen Skatepark in Des Moines, Iowa. Best skatepark I’ve ever been to and guarantee you’ll have a lot of fun there. I wish it wasn’t as far so I could go twice a year but for now, I think I’m going once a year.
Brandon from Bladernews had a serious food injury from aluminium frames without shock absorbers. He can't really skate for more than a year and highly recommends everyone to combine these frames with good shock absorbers.
great vid Corey.please let me ask you a thing...so i got the sways 8/9us.my feet are 27cm .do you think i should go and can i fit the M intuition liner in the us9 sway shell?thanks.
I was obsessed with street / aggressive skating back in the 90s (I am 40 years old now). Stumbled across your channel and have subbed. You've made me want to get back into it again. Probably won't taking as many risks as back in the day. Will have to dust down and relub my OG K2 Fattys. How old as skaters nowadays?
We’re hoping more younger skaters start up, but you’re definitely not alone coming back to it now. Average age is probably mid 30’s. Welcome back! Probably worth investing in at least some new wheels for those bobs.
@@coreyenglish8706 I do have a local park which is mostly scooters and skateboarders, will go there at some point, hope I don't get too many funny looks lol... Yeah new wheels and bearings needed, plus a good clean I think :)

I have skated them for the last year and found the same pros/cons plus to me (41) topsides felt a bit more difficult than on a beefier frame. That's why I added diy uhmw sliders. Adding 6mm uhmw made it a bit easier not to roll and they still slid well like that.
Same here! I could still get it done at 31, but it definitely felt the wheels touching more often on topsides on coping. Kind of keeps you honest, but can also be annoying.
@@coreyenglish8706 Yeah, I just wasn't there yet and switched to primes for the usual park sksting. Keeping the Solas though as they really are awesome bowl frames as you said.

looking at the shock sheets, would it not remove some of the power transfer? The whole idea of the frames was about being great in a bowl which means it's all smooth, smooth landings and the shock sheets would surely reduce the amount of power transfer nulling the point of a metal frame? I don't know haha I might be looking too much into it as usual!
@@coreyenglish8706 yeah if it's more of a sort of vibration dampener rather than something that will give way easily, then it makes sense. My knees are too ruined to do gaps anyway 🤣
is that a vert ramp you're sitting under? where? someone needs to post a directory of all vert ramps available to skate as they're damn near impossible to find these days...
I am about to venture on a new task. I have sola frames, them frames, create original frames and finally kizer fluid five frames... Going to test them all flat for the best outcome. What would you recommend being the better frame.
I haven’t tried creates yet, and the solas are in a category of their own. So out of the two remaining, I prefer the fluid 5s to them frames. Thems are great, but not for as long as the fluids.
More power trasfer is considered desirable. Yet you, and many others, are proponents of shock absorbers, which seem designed to not transfer power, but instead absorb it. How is it that shock absorption and power transfer are not inversely correlated?
This is something I’m curious about with the muzzle pad thing. If it is a dense/harder foam that only dampens vibration, then the loss of power should be minimal. I agree that a big soft pad, like the SL for example, would eliminate a significant amount of power transfer. I feel like the constant vibration from the frames is what really did me in.
I truly think the whole wax issue with bladers vs skateboarders is blown out of proportion. I’ve literally never had a single issue with waxing stuff, if anything I’ve had skateboarders offer me wax.
I’m 26.8. US 9.5. Small intuition v2 and small them 909. Fits like a glove, but I like zero extra space in my skates. Just enough room to not stub my toes.
Your skating is sick man

No way. That's a rad factoid.
I think we all need to learn a lesson from this and start putting mics in the coping!
