It's so sad to see the great man looking like this ,I have never heard a greater singer than Luke, I'm 22 and if I live till I'm 80 I guarantee I will not hear anyone better. RIP Luke you were a genius
Brian, me too. Never we'll hear other singer, performer like him. Sure Luke Kelly is the Greatest And Master Folk Singer from Ireland to the World ever.
look how sick he looks bless him, yet he still manages a brillient performance. rest peacefully luke in the knowledge you are still greatly loved and missed xx
Not a January passes but I think of the great man. Oh how so tired & weary Luke looks singing this song. God bless him. No longer in pain. Rest easy dear Luke. I have navigated my learning of this song with my 5 string and now working on the vocals. Thank you for the inspiration to keep these classics alive. Gone but never forgotten. Keep us safe.
It’s took me one week precisely to learn on my vocals this song then I landed on my five string banjo I personally think that the way he plays it in this video is the best because he strums the banjo instead of picking at it really hurts my heart strings
What perseverance! ! What determination and such beautiful passion rising of the deepest of his soul to sing although was his very sick. Like Luke Kelly never more we will see. He didn't show his pain and frequently headaches. So like a great man, not also as a singer, but our true hero, a brave man. Certainly he will be forever in our memories and our hearts. So we love you, too much, Greatest Master of the Bards!!! Listening your songs my tears falling on my face.
I just love that comment that Luke's mother made, Luke "had the nature" what a beautiful phrase from a mother to her son, i will carry that with me, says everything about Luke
January 22nd, 1982 really sad during this live performance even Ronnie's face and expression says it all at the beginning of the song when he turned and glanced at Luke
Never has a song done to me what this did when I first heard it. I pulled my car over to the side of the road and just kept on playing it. To me no one can sing it as good as Luke a true Irish Hero.
I turn this song on before I go to bed and it puts me to sleep before it's over.. I'll sing your songs till the death catches me, Rest In Peace ya Genius
kellyoneill, Thanks so much for putting up these great videos of Luke. I have loved the sound of his voice since I was a boy in the cradle. Who needs lullabies when there is Luke. Again thank you and keep posting great videos like this!
Always moving... ever soulful... we were taught to adore and loathe this in equal measure, do ye not recognise that Irish soul is unique? Eternity is long......
so beautiful, very happy mem, ories of my Mum and I going to see the Dubliners many times, sadly they are no longerr with us and neither is my Mum, miss them all Elizabeth shaw
You can see how sick the poor fella is in this. Unbelievably powerful soul he was. Not even a brain tumor stopped him from performing. But eventually he sadly was overpowered by it. Thanks for all of these great recordings and songs
The hurtful thing is that it’s (the head near Sheriff St) just been vandalised for the fourth time since unveiling. Luke embodies everything that is Irish, warm and generous. It doesn’t say much for the scum that attack it
ah Damian dempsey he has 2 songs of lukes up on youtube and he murdered both! Luke is an amazing performer with a unique voice, and he also a very rare human being :)
Ray and Archie Fisher created this version of a night visiting from a compilation of versions of songs collected by Hamish Henderson from traditional singers across Scotland. The put it on their 1961 EP "Far Over the Forth". This is the origin of the song that Luke Kelly sang. There are a number of English and Scottish songs that it is closely related to.
i´m far away from your culture...... but somehow i deeply love this song. makes me thing about life. thanks for uploading. i´ll keep drinking in your worship.
I got into The Dubliners and Luke through their more jaunty and upbeats songs, but as time has gone by, it’s tracks like this that have really stuck with me the most
Thanx to you and to machree01, my friend. The more the better. Wonderful to know that there is a someone like you, Kelly O'Neill, keeping the memory of this great person alive. Love to ya, xx SA
@@kathleenvilla4331 it's one of those trad ballads that's a composite of a few older ones: there's a, older more bawdy version by Arthur Lloyd, a lot less contemporary sounding than LK, from when folk music was Folk Music.
One of the best of the Dubliners ....Luke was a really fine ballad singer..great voice ...best at this sort of song were the voice quality was more exposed with a fine open throated projection...RIP.
they are school days over and the night visiting song just type in damian dempsey and the dubliners they will come up. lol if you cant stand listening to them!
@gavinrussell1 Spot on Gavin, couldn't have put it better myself. So sad to see the way Ireland has turned out. It's become an economy and is no longer the beautiful nation it once was
How can anyone compare de langer dempsey dere to Luke Kelly.. there is no comparision. Luke was really ill at this stage .. and even then he was pure class :-)
Aye, Luke could bring a tear to a glass eye, what a great singer he was. Gone - but will never be forgotten.
Aws a Scot, you must first get read of the Communist NSP. They hate Scotland.
Tear to a glass eye,word begins with a w ends with a r,sure even u with a half a brain can work that 1 out,gobshit

God bless this true legend. Sadder world without him. We will never here a greater singer.
Luke had the nature to share, to share with his fellow men and women. He dared and could with his beautiful voice, the sound of a nation.

The hurtful thing is that it’s (the head near Sheriff St) just been vandalised for the fourth time since unveiling. Luke embodies everything that is Irish, warm and generous. It doesn’t say much for the scum that attack it
There are actually two and as
Saorbhreatach O’Croimin mentioned , one of them has been vandalized a few times . So sad
When my dad passed away all my mum could say was "What a Man" This is true of Luke Kelly.
No greater tribute could your mother give your father.
