Yes. we were moving out of our apartment to buy a home and visited relatives end of February two weeks, when we came back to NorCal , the real-estate had been “closed” off from us purchasing our home so we hotel hopped and moved around a lot, and being secluded, he started to digress. Now I’m going at it full-force with a loving heart to bring him back up to soeed

Our son knows all his colors and shapes, numbers and this show called “Classy with Aria” she gets him to talk fully. It’s just with me and mom it seems. It’s all in his mood, I feel like a failure as a stay at home dad with man of the house responsibilities also. I dunno, perhaps I’m too much or just not on the right teaching track. Thank you for this. It helps me cope bc he speaks well, just not socially

I found that with my five year old, when I changed his nutrition and gave him more fruit and veg and drastically reduced foods with sugar it changed his mood and attitude towards learning. He improved so much within a space of few weeks.

I wish you had a video like this for school-age kids 6 years old and above. Your teaching, like what to expect in a particular age range, what letter sounds the kid should be proficient in, and tips on what to work on (categories, same and different), and even the social aspects and activity suggestions are fantastic!

My son is 3 years and 3 months old. He knows colors, alphabet, shapes, can count to 20, and lots of different words. But he can't talk in sentences and his expressive language just isn't there. He can say some sentences but he can't really have like a back and forth conversation I guess.. How can I help him with that? He's so smart. I wonder if it's something I could be doing better. Maybe I'm not encouraging him to talk as well as I could be?

My 3 year old's articulation is ok, eye contact, gestures all fine, and he understands quite a bit too. But certainly cannot talk about his day. We just stopped sending him to playschool because he started crying too much when we get him ready for school and he isn't able to tell us what's upsetting him at school. He used to be happy to go to school.

Our son was only 9 months when lockdown occurred. He had no interation with kids till he was 2 and a half and he had no sense of understanding, speaking, being able to explain, he isolates himself from other kids. There was hope when he started with another nursery but they threw in the white towel and did nothing with the funding they had. We started a speech therapist last year and he was started to pick up words, he still struggles but recently has started school and they have said they will fully support him to help him and get up to speed, i hope it does happen.

    • @HelpMeGrowSpeech
      @HelpMeGrowSpeech  4 роки тому +3

Asad Durrani yes, this sounds like an articulation problem. Try to work with her on the earlier developing sounds first: m, n, p, b, d, t, w, h, k, g in single words. If there is another language involved, work on earlier developing sounds in that language too! Singing, reading books, and playing will help keep it fun! hope this helps!

Hi Lindsay, my daughter is 3.5 years old and she doesn't have her first word yet. Previously she got hearing problem but it has been cleared with ear surgery last year. We started speech therapy 2 months ago but halted until further notice due to Covid-19. Even though she can not speak, she understands and follows all of my orders, unless she refuses to do so (typical toddlers behavior). The speech therapist suggests to use sign language to help her communicates with others and she learns the signs quite fast. Do you think she's still considered as speech delay and what more can I do to help her? Thanks in advance for your advice.

    • @rahbid121

My son has speech delays, although he follows instructions, understands routines, etc... his SLT says he has speech delays.
In my family, our children start off with speech delays. Especially the boys. One of my nephews started talking at the age of four. He is now 16, at the top of his class.
My other nephew started talking at the age of six. He had glue ear. After surgery, his speech slowly improved. He is now in his late teens, and he is again very intelligent!
I know this person who started talking at the age of 4, he is now a doctor
What works with my son for him to say his first words was sign language and words with pecs. Introduced one item at a time, e.g., bread showed the bread with sign language and clear word. Repeated it constantly for a week. He started asking for cake, using sing language.
Then introduced another object... now he is starting to say two words together, E.g, "Where's Baba?"
It'll happen for your daughter. Some children take time and little effort. Then they blossom like no other 😊All the best

Hello- my son turned 3. He’s known letters and numbers, identifying, writing, colors, drawing but communication has halted. He sometimes doesn’t answer to his name, and I’m so worried. I’m a stay at home dad and feel like I’m failing my child. How do I start with getting his attention? How do I teach effectively? I feel it’s more on my approach, than his progress. He’s also gotten into screaming when watching exciting Disney moments, and grunting when he’s jumping and excited, when he originally started speaking clearly with mannerisms and behavior that was quite progressive up till the age of 2yr. could COVID and being isolated/secluded/indoors be the issue? *sigh* as you can tell from my comment, these thoughts plague me intrusively, even with our progress made

Hey man! I totally identify with your comment. My son also just turned 3 and is not using many words although I can tell he understands them. We have him doing speech therapy and being evaluated for ASD which is absolutely maddening as a parent. I too often feel helpless with how to help him. Right now we’re focused on sign language as well as picture cards and mimicking but it doesn’t quite seem like enough and everything takes so long.
Anyways I’m on here to learn more and connect with other parents going through the same thing. Strength in numbers! Wishing you and your fam the best

    Hi Lindsay,
My son is 4 years old now, he says alphabets , numbers , shapes , colors , animals names and their sounds , sings rhymes but does not communicate much.often times he does says on repetitive manner. And if he is need of anything then prefers to grab the hand and point at object rather than asking. if we make him to ask then he will say it but next time it’s still the same. He does not eye contact most of the times , so it’s becoming hard to for us to having him to connect with what we are saying. He is getting speech sessions at daycare but what else we could do to help him?
As he is getting older I am worried that how would he do in school? He can’t express his emotions.
Your suggestions would really great help.

shin Kim thank you for your question! Is there another language involved? Or just English? For a 4 year old, I would not expect him to be able to say L or R yet, he’s not ready for that and it increases frustration. For K and G, show him that you bunch your tongue in the back of your mouth, but the tip of your tongue stays down. You can put a cheerio on the tip of his tongue (behind the teeth) to help. Singing songs with alphabet sounds will help as well

I am relieved to hear the first part about the L & R. Yeah I told him the K sound is more from the back of mouth without tip of tongue touching the top of mouth. We will definitely try your cheerio practice! You are awesome woman for making these contents!

I am so frustrated... really.. looking every where for a help to my 3 years 11 months son... he does not speak only repeat any world you said like a parrot can not say a sentence from 2 words .. I am very disappointed and sometime can not sleep.. I already took him to speech specialist almost 4 months with 0 development... and am here in UA-cam...doing all advices but no result... I was suspicious for autism but doctor said he is not.. he like to teez me throwing everything in his hand to roof very playful look healthy Eat well sleep well in time and hours..what is your advice pls anything..
When kids his age play ..he play alone with different interests like throwing objects in roof ... he can order by just 1 words like: water .. toilet..candy .. biscuits.. chocolate..rice.. meat .. chicken.. honey..bread.. he know colors and shapes .. from all toys he has he only like animal small plastic fingers.. no interest at all in stuffed toys..he love anything that can break... break all toys my house roof look disaster all are food stains ....
He like me (father) aloooot sooo attached to me when I go to other room he stay behind door and keep repeating baba until I open..(and the attachment is really annoying like he command us to be near by) when I set next to him he go and leave me same with his mom. ( not want me more than not want me to close the room door while he is not with me)
Always smile and I love this about him but when he get angery he hit me!!! Never ever his mom or me hit or even rais a voice.. where did he get that from I dont know... it started when he look at me angery and hit air then me... he is not aggressive NO but this strange behavior maybe he gain it from the 4 months in speech therapy coz I understand that they have 2 hours a day one for speech and one for behavior and for behavior lesson in group 3-4 child
When he angery he cover his ears (but not always) like 30%
Eye contact is very good ... one more strange thing he do when he swing he gather all his animal figures and put them in front and swing while watching..
Sorry I wrote alot as a comment but is there any advise... Please
    Thank you
Note he is my 1st and only child

Great video!! My 3 year old (36 months) uses nouns before a verb eg. Daddy eating, Jon brushing teeth. However, if she doesn’t know the person’s name she won’t say he or she, not just the verb. I model the pronoun + verb and she’s done it once before, but otherwise she’ll just say the verb. She also doesn’t say is between the noun and verb. Is that a concern?

Today we tried it again but he started crying instead. I asked my Mom if she wanted a cookie and she said yes I want a cookie so I gave it to her and my son had a meltdown. Yelling, crying, screaming, wanting to hit. It took him about an hour of tantrum but he eventually said something like cookie so I gave him half of one. I was patient and hugged him and tried to calm him down but he was angry for a long time it seemed. Is this normal or am I doing this wrong? The speech therapy in our area is on a long waiting list. I was hoping you'd be able to help with a question. My 4 year old didn't talk until she was 3 and now my 3 year old is finally talking. The only thing that helped was watching stuff like Daniel Tiger and Cocomelon and I would watch with them and talk about the show with them. Now they only speak in Daniel Tiger/Cocomelon quotes. Is this a concern or just them building a basis for communication? We don't have family or friends and we have 3 small children so we believe a lack of socialization might be contributing during this pandemic.
