Wow im actually surprised, you do great job on your research. 0:34 as a long time fgo player and enjoyer of fate lore, it is absolutely not a lie to say spending money on fgo is a scam. even KOREAN gacha games are more sane than fgo.
The gacha is just waifu collecting bait. If you not really want any of the waifus or your waifus is on lower rarity, you don't need to roll. 99% FGO content can be cleared with R characters. The last 1% can be dealt with random SR and SSR that you get. The fact that most of the time you don't even utilize the Command Spell to clear the fight.
@@gilgameshlfx7006 >99% FGO content can be cleared with R characters True, but who's playing just for that, just using R characters? Of course they'd want to get more attractive/powerful characters of higher rarity and thus, compelled to roll the gacha either way. Introduction of 90++ and OC nodes further drive the need for stronger or specific characters that can reliably clear them. Yes, those nodes are ultimately optional but that doesn't change the fact that they're the most efficient farming spots, making them the proverbial holy grail in a game that's 90% farming materials.
20:32 The Natlan Boycott is basically a literal Minority of 1% of the playerbase. At best there's 150K people in the boycott, however Genshin have 40 Million Player across the world. That 150K People(if those people are Genshin Players as people can lie) is just 0.375% of the playerbase, not even 1% and basically 1 out of 266 Players are boycotting the game.
Right? I play Genshin and I understand why people are mad about the racial representation. (Even if I am one of the pastiest white players in existence and a stray Sunbeam will burn me 😂). But the reality is: no one really cares. It is annoying to me, but I still play. And I'm sure that's most players' mindset. I am disappointed in Hoyo for not adding more diverse characters, but I'll still play the game as long as I find it enjoyable. I know there will be peeps disagreeing with this take, but oh well, I guess
I know a ton of Genshin players of all races genders and political affiliations and literally none of them are boycotting. Some are disappointed, but they're also accepting that it's a Chinese game with a billion dollars of investment that they get to play for free. The only time I see "actual" boycotters is on Twitter, where they're likely people who have never played the game before.
@@maevethefox5912 You saying this reminded me of post about Fire Emblem Engage (it is relevant to Genshin I promise). It was a post about the characters from FE Engage specifically Timerra. EoS is a scam. I have the two that I really enjoy now, but I've decided once they are gone I will never play another gacha. One key to living a long fulfilling life is to do things that will grow with you as you age, not leave you as you age.
Heh, same situation here exactly. Also have two gachas i moderately enjoy, quit all the others and won't pick up another one. The biggest dealbreaker to me was the stories. Whenever someone says a gacha has a good story I read it thoroughly and it turns out to be mid at best. And if i just skip the story i realise pretty quickly i play a shadow of what a normal single player game can have. Or what a decent book can tell.
No? It's the complete opposite, things leave a impression on you because they end. It's the same difference between a great cartoon with a finale and Simpsons languishing for decades.
Yes, I don't keep pets for the exact same reason. Instead all the money I save from pets I toss into gachas and I solve the issue you're having by leaving them before they leave me. This is half in jest, but I don't think I've ever stayed with a gacha to see their EoS.

I'm confident that if Priconne global was published by anyone other than Crunchyroll it would still be around to this day. It was fairly F2P friendly which is probably why Crunchyroll chose to shut it down. It's a shame because it had a pretty high production value for what it was. I used to be a regular player but took a break and then stopped playing when I missed a pretty big banner. It's sad to see it go but I'm somewhat glad I wasn't active at the time as it would've hurt a lot more. At least JP is still alive and well, here's hoping that Priconne global gets picked up by another publisher eventually, even if it is unlikely.
I was absolutely floored that Nexon had sucha patent, let alone that this is even patentable as its clearly very amoral and should be illegal to implement.
Bro putting BTD6 below R6 is so funny, as an avid player of this godawful game called Shit 6 I can assure you that the players are rabid subhuman beasts.
For Princess connect, nah i doubt it about not enough money for the service, all other Priconne server still up at time i write this ain't no way Global make less money than other smaller county. Its 100% crunchyroll fault.
They probably spent 2x the amount of money necessary on DEI consultants and other bs like that. It was immediately obvious by the changes to the dialogues that they didn't really care about the game.
With princess connect ending early on global turned out to be a blessing with how the game state is now, limited banners back to back to back multiple times in a row. A revamp battle system with elements that made team building even worse with min maxing galore, overall as time went on the game got worse and worse to the point you can consider sending money mandatory. Hell as an older player if i were to return to princess connect it would be straight up better to restart completely that's how bad it has gotten
I remembered why I quitted ToF, because it was more expensive yet less fun than Genshin. Then wuwa came along, and realized that it was more fun and fair than both of them.
I wish building characters didn't take so freakin' long, but the game is a blast and I've never felt a need to spend a cent. Though I admit to buying the $5 pass because I like to support games that give so much for free.
@@fingermi7571 Not really, it has better rates with a guaranteed weapon banner. ToF also had better rates than Genshin however they also have gacha skin which I disliked, along with character skins locked behind dupes. Heck I think why ToF isn't gaining as much popularity despite shifting to a more mature tone like Snowbreak is because they still practice those predatory marketing system. I think wuwa is just fair since the amout of rewards per event they release is similar to pgr where you can always obtain each new character per banner if you'll at least be on monthly, while the dupes are for more whales and even them have incentive by being able to buy the dupes on the shop. But for me the gacha with the best monetization would be the one supervised by Yostar, hence why a lot of people are waiting for Azure Promilia.
I still not forgive Crunchyroll for shutting down Princess Connect ReDive Global. All for that goes to Eminence in Shadow: Master of Garden and Street Fighter Duel. There goes my hardwork to get Christina. I already got Muimi and Neneka in JP server.
The funny thing about Revived witch, is that after the announsment about closing the server, they give for free a lot of things, and damm i really like the story of that game
Yeah, I'm reasonably sure that it was the catalyst for Japanese gachas having to display accurate rates. Pretty sure there's a law for that in China too, and in South Korea: though some fellows like Nexon in SK try to cheat the system by showing rates that are incorrect.
Wanna mention the bit about maplestory, cubes werent what people were rolling for, the cubes were used to roll for an equipments potential (think of it like genshin artifacts but instead of leveling it up to roll for random lines, you used the cubes to roll the lines) and the controversy is that the rates being changed to make it impossible for someone to roll 3 of the same lines for 1 equipment (which for many equip slots was the best outcome), and since they didnt tell the players, people were spending thousands for a line stack that wasnt even possible to get
NieR reincarnation being lost is very sad I wasn’t going crazy with spending as the game was pretty f2p friendly compared to others but the characters were so well designed. Limbus is more than filling that void now but still I miss it
JP Princess Connect did get an update that reduces number of pulls required to spark the featured character BY 100 PULLS. Pulling the plug right before players guide character's birthday is heart wrenching. Never forget CR had the nerve to make a post on upcoming banner news soon after the EoS news.
Pricorine biggest mistake is going to Crunchyroll. The company had bad reputation even before Pricorine launch. People hesitate to play the game, let alone spending money on it.
ahh yes monkey gate, glad u actually mentioned it, thats the system that changed gacha market forever somehow or somewhat, FGO joins in super late onto that
As an avid umamusu player the AI generated one is so baffling, it's like seeing a skinwalker try to pass off as a friend. Umamusu's main draw is the designs, stories and voice acting of the horsegirls, so having them being AI generated remoevs any draw to them at all lmao
20:13 That is not true at all. Look at the War Thunder situation. The players got together, organized and didn't stop until the developers made actual meaningful changes and the game is now much better thanks to it. The problem is, most of the time there is a distinct lack of care about the game. And that can come from both sides. Either the players don't care enough to try and do something meaningful (Genshin boycotts that only lunatics on twitter care about) or the devs don't care care enough about the game and are only in it for the money (most Nexon games).
i still remember how back then i naively just judge a game based on the game itself. but as time goes, i start to realise how important to judge based on publisher and developer team. in the end, we cant separate them with the game direction. in the end, they want profit. it is just the question of how they do that. thats our problem to answer and decide if we support them or not. very enjoyable topic 🍻
I'm at least thankful for the global version of Princess Connect for leading me to play the japanese version. The game is genuinely very fun, and the community that migrated to the japanese version is very active in translating the game.
Yeah. The differences between global Priconne, which was barely advertised and had iffy translations at times, having screwed up with Pecorine's name on her profile, and japanese Priconne, which, on top of all the money it must cost to mantain, hire big name VAs and animators, still has the time to make huge events on the anniversaries only shows how little Crunchyroll cared about it. The difference was like comparing High Guardian Spice and the Priconne anime.
@@ranggayogiswara5148 There's an English translation patch made by fans. I personally don't use it, but it mainly works to translate the UI, but I think it translates story dialogue as well. Although, it's only machine translated I believe.
Haven't watched the whole video by name but I do love this video so far- I will say I'm surprised to see that "Ultimate Arena of Fate" and the countless games the company made with similar names hasn't appeared as the first game on the list. That company is by far the most shameless one I personally have come across mostly because facebook was legimately advertising them- WHY?
One of the biggest reasons why gacha games have a very bad reputation is that they are known to shut down very quickly. I've seen tons of gacha games shut down in less than 3 to 2 years at best due to failing revenue and playerbase leaving due to lack of content and getting bored with the game.
I don't think Uma Musume can have a real copyright claim on that clone game because the clone game is so barebones and without polish that they didn't actually copy any relevant designs. You can't copyright the mere concept of "I turned x into waifus" because then half the gacha game market would be sued by Kancolle.
On the issue of "Why do companies do (insert self defeating thing here)", it's because it's part of their strategy. You're right in that companies can actually put in the time, money and effort to make a genuinely good game rather than a cheap one for a fast buck, but the sad truth is that it's actually more profitable to develop/publish many low quality games with low low maintenance costs rather than just a small handful of good, solid games, not to mention it's much less risky if the game does fail, since if a game that you sink a lot of money and manpower into fails, it's a massive chunk of effort and investment gone, while if a cheap disposable game fails, it's almost like going according to plan. There are exceptions, but in most cases quantity trumps quality in terms of revenue. If for example, a game that takes 10 million to make earns 2 million a month versus a game that takes 100 million to makes earns 15 million a month, then from a financial perspective it makes more sense to make 10 such of the former game rather than the latter, not to mention the risk is much much lower if the game ever fails, as you're not putting all your eggs into one basket. There's also the fact that most of the companies, if not all, that pump out such cookie cutter games are public companies with many public shareholders and investors who want their returns, and so it incentivizes short term growth, even if they may earn more money over a longer period.
Also I really enjoy how NA F/GO has an innate 2 year roadmap for the gacha. Literally no other game does that, from my understanding. Regardless it really cuts down on the FOMO multiplayer that most games employ these days. The 2 year of foresight coupled with the GSSRs is pretty unparalleled to the point that, if you plan properly, you can have a shed load saved for when your favorites come around. Can’t really mitigate if you’re a player of broad devotion and spread yourself thin.
The thing with Cygames specifically is that that whole situation with Andira was THE first time a spark system was introduced in a gacha game (at least that I'm aware of). Prior to that, the idea of any kind of "pity" system was completely alien to gacha games, which is insane to think about when you actually ask yourself "how many times have I actually gotten the character I wanted without the help of a pity system?". Not like saving up 300 pulls to guarantee a character in GBF is particularly easy anyway, especially when banners last... 3 to 4 days? Sheesh, why do I still play this? On the matter of Genshin, I couldn't have said it better. I did not inherently disagree with the motive behind the protest, but the way they went about it, constantly calling both the company and anyone who didn't agree all kinds of names until they either started agreeing or shut up, was absolutely disgusting. It also showcased exactly what you meant, a bunch of self-righteous people thinking they can act with impunity because "they're in the right side of history" (saying things like that about something like a gacha game feels so ridiculous but alas) and only doing it because they wanted to feel like they were in the right. Of course, let's also not forget that the boycott guidelines were absolutely ridiculous and served to definitively proved the entire situation was being spearheaded by idiots who only seeked validation from others on social media, not people actually seeking change. To end on a lighter note, Crunchyroll is a joke of a company and, thankfully, it might just be getting in some really hot water after the most recent controversy. Remember kids, there's only three things in the world that are truly scary: your mom using your full name, taxes and the USPS.
Only if your mentality is to get everything there is to have. If that's your main goal, and you can't fight the fomo of not having all characters ever released, then probably yeah. But if you're looking for cool gameplay, stories, art, you know, the things that make the game a game, then some gachas are incredibly good.
@@devolays i want to collect every character, but played gacha for years now, i dont know how i dont get fomo much, casually playing, if i missed the character, ig next time it rerun.

@@Rifky809 makes the experience all the more special; treasure it while it lasts. And there will probably be private servers if the game is big and good enough and has a lot of fans. I saw at least a few examples of games being brought back to life by the community; not necessarily gacha, but still: Battlefield Heroes and BattleForge. Not sure if they're still maintained, but I remember playing them a good while ago, few years after official servers went down.
As someone who has been playing MapleStory for a very long time and has known the game for 20 years, my country's server was first shut down because they refused to change the game language to English. The second time, there was internal corruption where the game's CM spawned items and put it on Auction House, leading to the server shutting down again. Now, I’m playing for the third time on the MSEA server, but the issues with hacks and bots are still persistent. There’s also the matter of the Flame Incident and Inner Ability. Recently, they have done a semi-nerf, semi-buff by limiting the daily earnings and removing several bosses and other content from MSEA, which has made players very angry. Many of them are now moving to the GMS Heroic server, along with players from almost all over the world.
The thing about Princess Connect is that in a market as saturated as the gacha game industry, where every single game vye for the player's attention by doing everything they can from doing livestreams, communitty events, concerts, CR decided that the IP's name alone is gonna be enough to draw in new players while also retaining the old ones. Which is really ironic because the developer, Cygames is like one of the first company to do stuffs like monthly livestreams with the VAs, big anniv celebrations, offline events and all that jazz. All the time that I've invested in the game to climb my way to a T25 clan is all gone bc CR is too fucking lazy to do something with the IP.
if a game has Nexon logo slapped on it, don't even bother. Actually, don't bother playing any gacha game if you have a tendency of spending money uncontrollably.
in defence of Mihoyo, the reason they reuse and tweek a lot of character designs is because they're supposed to be extradimensional equivilents to one another. It's like complaining that Optimus Prime(G1), Optimus Prime(Cyberverse) and Optimus Prime(Prime) all look similar. They're the same person in different universes.
Princess connect was f***ing painful. I was so excited when it got a global version cause I really liked the anime. The story is both fun and deep. You're just enjoying day after day of adventures with these pretty girls, unaware that all of you are actually stuck inside a game due to a different version of Yui. I've practically stopped caring about any Crunchyroll games after.
In a "hindsight 20:20" way I guess the new player pack Princess Connect sold sort of was the hint. A grasp for new players because they weren't content with the player numbers that didn't cash out as much as they'd hoped, so they're turning the lights off instead of allowing things to keep ticking over at a slower rate than they want.
I mean, if you want to protest a F2P game there is no problem with playing the game, as long as you don't pay you could even argue that you are costing the publisher money, the problem is that most people can't even do that. Like I watched a Fate streamer reacting to all the ways the game is ripping of its players and deadass saying 'well, nothing we can do about it', not even considering to keep playing but stop paying ...
I wish I wasn't this damn pessimistic, but that is just gamers in general. Never putting the money where the mouth is ends up being an invitation for companies to screw you over even more.
I always dislike the idea that f2p = costing the publisher money. Heck, I would go so far as to say that being f2p still helps the publisher. After all, you need tons of plankton in the ecosystem first to attract whales.
You are very wrong about this, if there are still tons of people playing it the game is healthy, it's just a matter of time until you pay up again since you are still there. MMOs only die when people stop playing them, whales and f2p, without the f2p to dab on the whale has no purpose.
The amount of high f2p will invite more people to play it because if the gacha is so bad, then why everyone play it. Then, it will come the time when you think, why is this game free when it rival AAA game production? Well, you know how it went for most player that loyal to the game
I'll give him a pass on not covering that: the coin scam is so convoluted that it would take a whole 'nother video to cover it. Mismanagement and deceptive rates are much easier to explain in comparison.
Companies do shady stuff all the time and every time they get fined if even that, it is less than what they earned or the damages the caused. The law need to make the fine proportional, and HIGHER than what these conpanies earned from doing crappy stuff from scams to environmental, or health effects. These low fines are only incentivizes them to keep doing this crap.
The best under-rated gacha game I have playing is Browndust 2. Good art, good gameplay, good gacha rates and even give away more pulls as you got multiple copies of event character. 🥰

Ah, mokey gate, the start of spark systems. For a little extra context, you basically never money-pull on Granblue Fantasy, since the amount of crystals (gacha currency) you get from playing the game is enough to spark every 3 months, that is, besides when theres any event and such that reduced that amount to half the needed rolls. Its a "usable" system for the average player, unlike other games where the spark system exists only for the whales with horrid luck.

There was an instance where Square Enix lied about their rarity rates in War of the Visions: FFBE. People got pissed in global and Japan, Square Enix apologized but the damage was done and that game is slowly approaching EoS. If you mess with people's money, people will care. Not unlike the Natlan Boycott that never mattered and only served to raise soapboxes on twitter. Scamming people is worth boycotts, not getting upset about how a character looks. Good video otherwise.

Regarding the Harry potter game, it's really good and uses spells and has a whole storyline with new characters to fit into the Harry Potter universe. But YES it is pay to win like crazy. You can even level up the cards and spells and it's so crazy it's directly pay to win. Even the pvp arena has revives directly linked to wands (basically expensive wands you can purchase with real currency let you revive more than once while the basic wand doesn't even let you revive). So it ends up being directly pay to win.
I kinda find it funny that the fine line between being a scam and being a good game is their ability to hide it, other games that show you the face value of how much your qctually wasting are a scam, but a game with a pity system and less money per roll but still takes relatively the same amount of money to achieve a character as a scam game are considered the best.

FGO is a success and still alive is because it's actually NOT a gacha game. At it's core, FGO is actually a LIVE SERVICE, VISUAL NOVEL with turn-based combat. The gacha is the least important in the game, if you view it objectively. You literally don't need any SSR or even SR at all if your goal is just to read the story and beat the story bosses. FGO is a visual novel pretending to be a gacha game.

@@gilgameshlfx7006 >99% FGO content can be cleared with R characters
True, but who's playing just for that, just using R characters? Of course they'd want to get more attractive/powerful characters of higher rarity and thus, compelled to roll the gacha either way. Introduction of 90++ and OC nodes further drive the need for stronger or specific characters that can reliably clear them. Yes, those nodes are ultimately optional but that doesn't change the fact that they're the most efficient farming spots, making them the proverbial holy grail in a game that's 90% farming materials.

The Natlan Boycott is basically a literal Minority of 1% of the playerbase.

Wuwa pull rates are just as bad as ToF and GI, how do you people worship Wuwa? 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

Man I remember that GBF incident, it's the start where every gacha is required to show rates right?
Yeah, I'm reasonably sure that it was the catalyst for Japanese gachas having to display accurate rates. Pretty sure there's a law for that in China too, and in South Korea: though some fellows like Nexon in SK try to cheat the system by showing rates that are incorrect.
Wanna mention the bit about maplestory, cubes werent what people were rolling for, the cubes were used to roll for an equipments potential (think of it like genshin artifacts but instead of leveling it up to roll for random lines, you used the cubes to roll the lines) and the controversy is that the rates being changed to make it impossible for someone to roll 3 of the same lines for 1 equipment (which for many equip slots was the best outcome), and since they didnt tell the players, people were spending thousands for a line stack that wasnt even possible to get
Damn that was on gear too? I know the Inner ability was like that too
NieR reincarnation being lost is very sad I wasn’t going crazy with spending as the game was pretty f2p friendly compared to others but the characters were so well designed. Limbus is more than filling that void now but still I miss it
I'll never forget what Crunchyroll did to Priconne
JP Princess Connect did get an update that reduces number of pulls required to spark the featured character BY 100 PULLS. Pulling the plug right before players guide character's birthday is heart wrenching.
Never forget CR had the nerve to make a post on upcoming banner news soon after the EoS news.
They also had the nerve to make a post about Pecorine Birthday this year
Honestly when playing gacha game, always look into the company behind the game because some of them are known for being scummy.
princess connect was really just mishandled with global, it's doing well enough in JP to stay afloat and occasionally have a new anime season lol

Bloons at the bottom? But Bloons is peak. Prepare for trouble Tsunul we are coming for you.
Cygames has had real bad luck, huh? Dragalia dies, World Flipper dies, and now Priconne EN...
I wonder how much Guardian Tales has fucked up compared to this, after all, most of the mismanagement is from Kakao Games.
The only way to win at gacha is to not play at all.
Only if your mentality is to get everything there is to have. If that's your main goal, and you can't fight the fomo of not having all characters ever released, then probably yeah. But if you're looking for cool gameplay, stories, art, you know, the things that make the game a game, then some gachas are incredibly good.

A grasp for new players because they weren't content with the player numbers that didn't cash out as much as they'd hoped, so they're turning the lights off instead of allowing things to keep ticking over at a slower rate than they want.
you need to update that pyramid and add another floor below it for Concord, Dustborn and AC Shadows
Well, you know how it went for most player that loyal to the game

what people even protestin on genshin? I remember when they protest about neuvillete "fix" the entire community went ballistic and hoyoverse decided to wipe their ass.
@@potatocatnomnom something something skin color too bright for the characters that are based on South America, it was one of the dumbest boycotts since people kept playing and tweeting how happy they were with the new update
Also scam is that developer will nerf a character if the old character still power creep the newly release characters.
Now I will watch out for Studio BSide and avoid their game like the plague.
project moon mentioned, sleeper agents must all wake up
I must be the reason why...
You have given up your smiles...
Here comes the T Corps Debt Collectors!
“Then, in the middle of the chaotic cries, someone shouted: “It’s the monster! Big, horrible monster lives in the dark, Black Forest!”
I remember when bait used to be belie- HOLYSHIT IS THAT THE RED MIST
You have great music taste, I did not expect you to put Schubert serenade in the video
Granblue Fantasy is actually one of the most generous gacha games now. They also released the pity/spark system in face of the scandal.
suprisingly enough, god has blessed me with the sinclair simp when i needed him the most ;-;
Good thing the only gacha game I play seriously is Enstars. The only scam this game has are the negative reviews. Someone literally gave it a bad review because one of the characters was Christian and another one said Enstars supports kidnapping women because they put advertisement on white vans.
i heard that reverse ost in the background, based.
The global shutdown of princess connect was quite the crushing moment for me and my brother cause we were pretty into the game and spent money on the game so it was sad to see it go for I thought the story was really interesting.
Pricon EN still hole in my heart. yes i F2P at that game, but im honestly quite lucy get meta unit and unit i like such as Chloe and Yuni. i detest that crunchroll for that and never trust their as distributor for a gacha game again.
Good video otherwise.
never forget Dragalia Lost. game was a banger that got shafted by Nintendo and their lack of marketing that lead to its EoS and I am still mad that it got taken down to this day
Regarding the Harry potter game, it's really good and uses spells and has a whole storyline with new characters to fit into the Harry Potter universe.
Hop off bloons buddy.
All gacha is a scam.
Valkyrie Crusade was a Gatcha that I played regularly until it ended service. Reason the game ended was because the dev team got bored and wanted to do other projects.
Something I still rage and salt over: Symphogear XD.
Six months. They brought the game to global with no advertisement and only a couple of events. It was actually just brought over to say it was brought over and was killed on launch.
Give me my Miku back. T-T
1:14 Speaking as a HSR player, 100% fair. They love their character designs so much that they'll remix them in their other games.
i love Priconne ReDive. i had my own play style and managed to progress without spending a single penny on it. i feel sad that they mistreated this game. the devs should learn from this big mistake. i loved this game, but sadly, it went away just like the others 😢
my clan was so fun and socialite, i wonder what they're doing right now.
Arknights content when?, love your content man spesial the 2 hours arknights ice berg one, the dedication for making it was crazy for making it, keep it up bro love you
The problem with princess connect u can not leveling certain character without thinking first. Some character has to be certain level to be usefull for guild fight. If the character not in certain level guild will not want u to be member of the guild
The natlan boycott wasn't even a boycott, it's just some collective malding and stupidity
I still can’t believe FGO is over 9 years old at this point.
Watching this and reading the comments about horrifying pull rates in other games is both horrifying and funny as a Battle Cats player, we really did get lucky with guaranteed 11-draws thank you Ponos for letting me stay f2p and keep my sanity
