One other tip, too make the tire more flexible leave the tire out in the sun when you pull the tire off the rim. A cold rubber is much stiffer and a warm to hot tire is very good. On the tire and beating the tire off, we use a long screw drive with a cheater for more leverage. A good video fwiw

I've got a friend who once worked in a tire shop for a long time. I swear he could take off and remount any tire with not much more than a Popsicle stick! Love this down to earth video. My dad and I used to change his tires on his pickup truck and car the same way. We used to break the bead by putting our heels and pressing up and down, that was in the early 50's, it worked then. Your way of breaking the beads with your wife's car is the only way to go. TWO thumbs up from me. Especially when you mention not using soft tires. You demonstrated how -to. While I’m not against tire shops, sometimes we should at least try it first . Builds pride knowing you conquered the tire. Great video. Simple maybe not easy!

Looked at All the videos on changing an ATV tire and yours is by far the BEST! On my channel I am restoring a 1983 Honda ATC 185s and your video saved me so much time. Thank you JT
Quick tip: To put a lot of air into your tire with the valve stem removed, push the quick connect on the end of your air hose onto the valve stem of the rim and get a whole lot more air to bead seen the tire on the rim. When both beads are pop'ed on remove the quick connect from the valve stem and insert the and insert the valve into the stem them air up to the desired pressure using an air chuck on your air hose. Your welcome !
Thanks for the video, really helped me changed 2 tires. I used a bobcat to drive on the tires to unseat the bead, worked great. Also I have a stove in my shop and I put new tires in front of the blower , turning tires around periodically, the heat really help the stiff tires loosen up a bit. Took no time to mount after they heated up. I would recommend replacing the valve stems, you don't want to mount a new tire only to discover after that the old stem is no good.
Man…I needed to see this!! So fed up with so businesses!! Ordered new tires and rims but could not find anyone to patch the holes. I definitely understand that these tires are old and would NOT complain/sign something saying they are responsible if it goes flat. This is somewhat how my Dad showed me too! Thanks
Thank you for the video. I glanced at your other topics and being an elderly woman on a ranch, it looks like i will we watching your videos frequently.
Dude that was awesome. I did learn something knew i could have used 30 years ago. The other car to brake the bead, smart. Loved it, thank you. HH James
Great video! I'll be doing this with my 01 yamaha wolverine. Quick tip for breaking the bead. anyone with a dirtbike or motorcycle you can use the kickstand and lean the bike over with the kickstand on the sidewall. That breaks them easy incase you only have low profile rims on ur car. Thanks for taking the time to record this man!
call the neighbor kid over. Give him the link to this video and give him $30 to do all 4. He'll be happy and learn a skill, plus get $30. I know I would have jumped at the chance to make some money when I was younger!
This fellow is great! I bribed my mechanic with cookies to mount a new tire bought on line. With this info, I mount the tire myself and eat the cookies! Letting the tires warm in the sun is a big help!
this man broke the instructions down so well that my 15 year old dumb self was able to know out 2 tires in like 5 minutes. i really appreciate it man keep this up💪💪
This was perfect.! All the places I called wanted $25-$45 each tire the tires would cost me less that for someone to put them on so truck and some tools helped me pull me off thanks for a great vid.
Or people that value their time. We have a local tire shop that will do all four tires on an ATV for $12. That being said, I still change my own, but I have a bead breaker for my press, and nice ridged stand to work off of, and the proper tools. If I was still changing them on the ground with screw drivers, I would be looking pretty hard at the place that does it for $12/4 wheels.
Excellent video for the common guy with simple tools. Working from the shallow side made all the difference. One more benefit is the satisfaction of doing it yourself. It is fun.
Legit!! I know out in WYO, they charge $20/tire. I’d rather have $160 for more fuel OR ammo vs paying to have that done on 2 ATVs. Plus, it’s great to get the kids involved so they realize that the toys need maintenance and it isn’t all fun and games to own them. There is responsibility too.
I liked the ending when you were explaining why you do it yourself 😆😆 , I mount mine too and don't even like talking to tire or mechanic shops. .they all got huge huge chips on shoulder ,good video 👍
Way to go. I have changed a few this way but needed a refresher. Gets a little harder when you're 72. Headed back out to pull the rim off the mower and put the last side on. Only thing to add is that if you have problems with the tire slipping around, use a vise grip on the rim flange to keep it from rotating while you are trying to mount it slowly and prying little bits in just like he showed. Pretty smart and you can tell he is a thinker when thing don't go quite like planned.
You make good points! Changing your own tires saves money and time, and can be fun (unless you're working on an extra stubborn wheel). Either way, it's good experience to have under your belt.
Excellent video...I need 4 new tires for my ATV and I would , like you, have to buy the "dealer" tires to have them mount them....plus have to remove all 4 wheels, cart them to the dealer, then go back to pick them up, and then re-mount them back on the ATV myself! This will give me the opportunity to buy cheaper no name tires as well...I only ride on my property and use the ATV more for work on the property so I don't need fancy branded tires. Thank you very much for posting this...I am definitely going to try it!
Thanks for the video bro! People can say what they want, but who in the hell wants to take the tire off, drive to some place, wait forever for them to mount it, drive all the way back home, then finally install it. I'm with you 100%. I rather do it in the garage
I just bought a honda 450ex and I need to replace the rear tires. Thank you for the video and help you just saved me more than $25 bucks. I appreciate what you did
It is cheaper to do it yourself, and the time is about the same either way like you said, but your last point is the most important IMO; its fun! Working on your own stuff has many benefits, but its also enjoyable and very fulfilling to know you can do it yourself. Great vid!
This is exactly what I needed, thank you! One tip I like if your having trouble getting the bead set is to put a ratchet strap around it and snug it up.
Dude, I knocked him out with your help. Thank you! The one thing I did do wrong I must’ve missed in your video, was making sure that I started on the shallow end of the wheel where the bead would fall down in the center of the well the low part, if you will.I tried the other way with the deep well by accident and it was horrible. Took me one minute when I got smart enough to turn it around. Lol thanks again.
I dont ever leave comments but I like that you do this for you kids, Thats what I am going to attempt to do tomorrow, thanks for the video! Liked and subscribed to my first video!
Yep, this is the first video of yours I've seen, and I'm subbing. This is great. and you're absolutely right. You save way more when you live out in the sticks doing things yourself!
So here I am at work trying to change a tire on a 8inch golf cart tire did not for the life of me know how till I found this ... definitely hung up on the 2nd to last step. Great video advice and directions. By the way used a forklift forks to break the beads.
Great job sir ! You are correct, no one counts the time it takes to go and pay someone else to do a job that can be done at home ! Most of all - it’s fun !
Time and cost saved, but also skill learned. I bought a set of 3 tire spoons that also came with new valve cores and caps for $25. Called a few tire shops and they all wanted $75-100 to mount all 4. That’s not even to unmount and dispose of the old rubber. I also wanted to clean up my old steelies and give them a fresh coat of paint.
I appreciated this video a lot. I have NEVER subscribed to any other but I've hit your button. Because you were sincere and humble and clever and handy. Spoken very easy to understand.and got skills and talent . I know any little deviation from his plan leads to frustration blood sweat and tears and more time.
I paid $112 just for mounting 4 tires last week.... but got some new rims at a garage sale and going to stud my old tires for ice fishing/winter. Gunna give it a go in my garage this time! Thanks 😊
Thank you sir let’s just saved me A lot of waiting. I don’t know about all of you but in my area you can’t just walk in and get tires mounted you need to drop them off and they’ll get to them when they can. Who wants to wait around for Tires. Thanks man appreciate video
You my friend are a tire machine! That's how it's done. Money saved is money earned. When you learn to do those kinds of things the old fashioned way you don't take it for granted. I broke down and bought one of the mini tire changers for my business and let me tell you I appreciate it more than I can express after doing it the old way so often.
Thanks for this tip...............saved me so much time and worked great. Not all tire shops can change these avt tires so this is forever in my toolbox of short cuts. Thanks.
Thanks Farm Dad, you just got another sub. I like a simple, practical solution to a problem. I have a John Deere E180 garden tractor, mower, whatever. I live in a rural Northern California county where burrs and stickers are a certifiable pain in the rear when they constantly get stuck in my tires. Your procedure works for me since it looks like you've been digging in my tool box. I have an old Snap-on pry bar (it looks like a 2' flat blade with a bent nose) and another long screwdriver that will work just fine. I'm planning to pull both front tires, to start with, and put tubes in them. The extra thickness should help keeping stickers from getting through. I have some of that "slime" to seal tires but I'd really rather not use it. That's just a mess if you ever have to pull that tire in the future. Oh, I have an old heat gun (industrial hair-dryer) that should warm up the tire pretty well. That's another good idea from one of your viewers... keep the good stuff comin'!! Thanks for a very worthwhile video. 👍 -Gary
Thanx brother .. helped a lot . Nothing beats a sweaty garage then paying 20$ when we can just do it our self thanks again for the help .. all the sweat was worth it
you mentioned using a piece of wood and drive up on it.. I was too lazy to drag a piece of wood and the tire out to my car, so I used an old 4x4 post on the tire and stood on it to break the bead. glad my beerbelly weight was finally put to good use, no car needed =)
Great video. Useful tips I learned over the years, on reluctant tires put a ratcheting strap around the center and crank it up to force the rubber side wider. Water poured over the rim where the tire seats on the rim will help it make a seal faster. We used to put the tires on and slam them down on a piece of plywood on the ground to force the rubber out onto the rim. More lube equals less muscle needed.
Good to see I'm not the only one... I risk using vice grips on the rim as I proceed around trying to get the 2nd side of the tire mounted, but I'm a lightweight.
Good video! Water and dish soap in a spray bottle make mounting and dismounting easier. Screwdrivers will work, but some cheap tire spoons are very nice especially for dirt bike tires with tubes. Screwdrivers will pop a tube. The trick with the car to break a bead loose is very good.
Great video!! Especially liked the commentary at the end of the video about why you change them yourself. People think I'm just a tight ass but there is enjoyment in being able to do things for yourself!!
Awesome job. To make seating the bead easier, I always put a ratchet strap around the middle of the tire. It works great, but a little scary when you release it.
One other tip, too make the tire more flexible leave the tire out in the sun when you pull the tire off the rim. A cold rubber is much stiffer and a warm to hot tire is very good. On the tire and beating the tire off, we use a long screw drive with a cheater for more leverage.

This will give me the opportunity to buy cheaper no name tires as well...I only ride on my property and use the ATV more for work on the property so I don't need fancy branded tires. Thank you very much for posting this...I am definitely going to try it!
omg ty so much... was starting to think I was crazy watching all these people just slip tires on... This vid finally got me there!
This is definitely a skill that gets easier with every tire you do!
Listen buddy I only watch 2 minutes and 51 seconds of your video I went to grab a 2x6 try with my Nissan Titan at work perfectly you're the man 😎
Cool!
Thanks for the video bro! People can say what they want, but who in the hell wants to take the tire off, drive to some place, wait forever for them to mount it, drive all the way back home, then finally install it. I'm with you 100%. I rather do it in the garage
Exactly 💯
Thanks Farm Dad! Very helpful. I especially like the way you broke the beads. 100% real deal.
Right on 🤟. Glad this helped.
I just bought a honda 450ex and I need to replace the rear tires. Thank you for the video and help you just saved me more than $25 bucks. I appreciate what you did
Those are awesome quads. Good choice.
Well thank you for that. I started to follow you and will be checking out your videos to see what else i can learn.
Thanks!
This is my first super thanks! I really, really appreciate it Tim. Have a great weekend.
It is cheaper to do it yourself, and the time is about the same either way like you said, but your last point is the most important IMO; its fun! Working on your own stuff has many benefits, but its also enjoyable and very fulfilling to know you can do it yourself.
Great vid!
Great to hear from a like-minded guy! I appreciate you.
This was a timely find...I've got 4 ATV tires to dismount and mount. Wish me luck!
Hope it goes well.
I mount semi truck tires by hand for work and I still loved and learned from. Your vid. Thank u
That's a huge compliment! My neighbor's dad growing up used to mount semi truck tires for a living. He had forearms like a lumberjack.
This is exactly what I needed, thank you! One tip I like if your having trouble getting the bead set is to put a ratchet strap around it and snug it up.
Yessum, that definitely helps a stubborn tire.
Glad you got it knocked out. Good going.
9:30 Air gun to set the beads. Fixed my tire issue. Thank you.
Good job , thanks for not making it an 1 hour video .
Very much appreciated
Yes sir, welcome. I try to find that balance between making short videos and still fully covering each topic.
I dont ever leave comments but I like that you do this for you kids, Thats what I am going to attempt to do tomorrow, thanks for the video! Liked and subscribed to my first video!
I appreciate you! Good luck tomorrow. The first one will be the worst and then it'll get a little easier with every one.
Yep, this is the first video of yours I've seen, and I'm subbing. This is great. and you're absolutely right. You save way more when you live out in the sticks doing things yourself!
Thanks man! 🤟. Appreciate that!
So here I am at work trying to change a tire on a 8inch golf cart tire did not for the life of me know how till I found this ... definitely hung up on the 2nd to last step. Great video advice and directions. By the way used a forklift forks to break the beads.
Forklift would definitely come in handy!
Great job sir ! You are correct, no one counts the time it takes to go and pay someone else to do a job that can be done at home ! Most of all - it’s fun !
Thank you!
Sounds like you are way ahead! Nice job buddy.
I appreciated this video a lot. I have NEVER subscribed to any other but I've hit your button. Because you were sincere and humble and clever and handy. Spoken very easy to understand.and got skills and talent . I know any little deviation from his plan leads to frustration blood sweat and tears and more time.
Thank you! That is very kind of you.
I paid $112 just for mounting 4 tires last week.... but got some new rims at a garage sale and going to stud my old tires for ice fishing/winter. Gunna give it a go in my garage this time! Thanks 😊
Welcome! Hope it goes smoothly.
Cheers dude, I almost gave up until I seen your video.
Much appreciated
Glad to keep you going. 👍
Thank you sir let’s just saved me A lot of waiting. I don’t know about all of you but in my area you can’t just walk in and get tires mounted you need to drop them off and they’ll get to them when they can. Who wants to wait around for Tires. Thanks man appreciate video
Yes sir. Better to just get it done.
the vibe this guy have in this video is good helpful friendly and real
Thank you so much!
Thanks.
You show how to remove and fix the wheel really well, very simple.
Thanks for taking the time making the video. Good to see you helping others get things done. The DIY way.
Most welcome!
-Gary
Thanks! That Tube should really help you. I appreciate you.
We always change our own tires and your vid was both familiar and helpful.
Awesome to hear! Keep at it brother!
Thanks so much, breaking the bead with the car/truck saved the day for me.
Glad to hear it. Have a good one
Very nice video my friend👍🏽💞🌸Hi from Canada❤️
Thanx brother .. helped a lot . Nothing beats a sweaty garage then paying 20$ when we can just do it our self thanks again for the help .. all the sweat was worth it
You are awesome! Thank you!!! Also the amount of pride adds into the cost savings too.
Yes, sir. Good point!
you mentioned using a piece of wood and drive up on it.. I was too lazy to drag a piece of wood and the tire out to my car, so I used an old 4x4 post on the tire and stood on it to break the bead. glad my beerbelly weight was finally put to good use, no car needed =)
That's impressive. As my Uncle used to say about his beer belly, if you have something worth keeping, put a roof over it.
All great advice!
You're the man. I keep coming back to this video for your tips. Always helps me out
I bet it gets easier with every tire you do. Thanks buddy.
I appreciate your kind words and agree with your advice!
Great video!! Especially liked the commentary at the end of the video about why you change them yourself. People think I'm just a tight ass but there is enjoyment in being able to do things for yourself!!
Exactly
Good point on it being a fun job. Clean not messy jobs are my favorite
I don't mind getting my hands dirty, but hate jobs where I'm bathing in oil or hydraulic fluid!
@@FarmDad just went and put new tires on my 1986 200x. It was insanely easy, more so than a pitbike tire. THank you for the confidence.
Awesome job. To make seating the bead easier, I always put a ratchet strap around the middle of the tire. It works great, but a little scary when you release it.
Yes sir, I do that whenever they get stubborn!
