Calligraphy Masters As a newcomer to Calligraphy I have watched quite a few Calligraphy/Copperplate UA-cam videos now - and have been quite surprised to see ‘the death grip’ some ‘tutors’ have. In the space of about two weeks viewing different tutorial videos, it has became very obvious to me that Paul Antonio is the most knowledgeable, experienced and informative calligrapher. (Daniel)
Calligraphy Masters it’s a 10 for me, I need to start to work on relaxing into the work, rather than stressing that it’s not good enough, thanks again x
BEFORE YOU BEGIN. . . . Always, always clean your hands and wrists first!! I simply use hand sanitizer, which I keep at my desk, I then wipe it off along with the oils and DIRT on my hands!! 👐🏼 This removes the natural oil we have in our skin which can soak into your paper and cause your ink or pen to skip which is very frustrating!! 😩 It took me two or three years to find out what was causing the brand new refill in my ink pen to cause skipping, it wasn’t the refill after all, it was the oil in my hands soaking into the paper while I wasn’t looking!! 🫤 Even just handling the paper before use will leave tall tell signs of oil penetration on ANY paper!! 🫢 I started calligraphy in high school. It has a wonderful way of calming the daily hub-bub we go through! 🙂 A great, enjoyable therapy!! Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed the new ideas!!
In the 1940s, penmanship was taught in elementary schools. The proper way to hold the pencil as well as how to position the paper was emphasized. Exercises were done to achieve the proper angle and the letterforms of Parker penmanship. I don’t know when the teaching of penmanship was dropped, but in the 1960s and 1970s my grandchildren received to penmanship instruction - not even how to hold a pencil.
It was also common practice to force Lefties to use their right hand, which made the act of writing very unnatural, un-intuitive, and created penmanship issues that weren't fixable.
I received penmanship lessons in the mid '50's while in grammar school, practicing an hour a day throughout the school year. I'm in my mid 70's now and my writing is the same as then, at least according to my wife, who received a lot of letters when we dated.
Thank you so much. watched the other three videos as instructed before this one. I have struggled with my writing for years (I am 56 now). had moments where it flowed and mainly where it did not. Bought myself a Lamy 2000 this week with a strong desire to finally work out how to write properly. Decided back to basics was in order - your 4 videos have made ALL the difference. Why oh why oh why don't they teach this stuff to us when we are younger? Very excited once again. Big thank you from me to you. I finally feel like I am starting off in the write direction :-)
Wow! It's amazing, as your subject mentioned, I didn't expect that. I was always think I got problem on my writing hand so the writing is so unstable. With your teaching method, I found it works immediately. Thank you very much!
Omg! Thanks for my unofficial Sir (Mr. Paul Antonio) for such a another wonderful calligraphy improvements lesson, video. And always I'm grateful to Calligraphy Masters channel for their exclusive episode's from the giant Calligrapher's from everywhere in the World. Today I'm really very excited to see their shop address in Amazon. Now I can easily buy my desired tools from their shop and obviously it will be helpful, maybe experienced items from them. Best wishes.
Life changing. literally. Transferring the death grip -- had no clue. Thank you!!! Would be so great if you could do a vid on how to place the pen in your hand?
Thank you very much I was facing serious problem It was after effect of calligraphy Head ache and pain in neck area Beacuse non uniform stress and incorrect posture
@@PAScribe as of now i am in transition in job, so i am not practicing calligraphy but yes your suggestions were very educating, probably after 17th of this month i will start again Thabks a lot
Great vid! 💕✍🏽 I see your writing table is angled up a little bit. How does it make a difference with the ease of writing verses writing on a regular table top?
The angle changes depending on the script I am writing. I generally work flat when using a pointed nib and a variety of angles for broad edged scripts, the angle changes depending on the variety of broad edged scripts.
To anyone who is interested in starting calligraphy, I would urge you to look further into the teacher in this video's page(PAScribe) and watch his videos and lessons! There are many great teachers on UA-cam and on the calligraphy masters channel but I consider Paul Antonio to be on a particular level reserved for grandmasters of the ages. He is someone who has obviously had a deep and consuming passion for his art and has fully considered every aspect of the craft. His knowledge seems endless and he is one of the few people, with any subject or skill, I would consider his craftsmanship flawless or perfect. What I'm trying to say is he is good and I recommend checking him out further 😃
Frustrated I can't find the short I watched lately of someone writing faith with my favorite type of f. I thought it was a calligraphy masters video, but I can't find it 😥
I am really glad this is out there. Thanks Calligraphy Masters! So many people struggle with the Death Grip. Hope this is a starting point for them.
It sure will be a start for a lot of people Paul!! Thank you for always sharing your knowledge and keeping Calligraphy alive!!

Helen and Daniel Reynolds I am really touched by what you say. Hope your journey is enjoyable in our little craft.

Good luck!! #KeepWriting
10 out of 10!! Going to try the pencil trick to see if I can loosen my death grip!! Thanks Paul and Calligraphy Masters!

Thanks for all the good videos.. is that a glass top you have on you deck..
It is a glass topped light table
I love writing but I don't have any problems with having the pen hold lightly. But this video is very helpful to everyone and thanks for the share.

Thanks for your awesome tutorials, twin.

It was a story, not a short and It's gone, but it's on our Instagram 😉
@@CalligraphyMasters Thanks so much for responding! It was almost too satisfying, lol, I have to show a friend
Very good and helpful video 👍👍👍
wow this is so helpful!
Wait for a digital calligraphy pen that indicates what angle your pen is. A digital read out on the pen like on a digital watch.
Sounds like a terrible experience! Our bodies are magnificent we just need to both understand it and pay more attention to it.
Wonderful...
Glad you like it 😊
Surely you're from T&T ??
