    Im thinking of two applications for this stuff: a vertical drill rig and docking crane for small ships.

      Indeed! You could also do a welding vehicle or something to move cargo with a merge block attached to them (or anything similar)

    These crane things just never pay. It takes so dreadfully long to move something around and exactly position it that you could just grind and rebuild in less time.

      Thats because I use the mod AwwScrap, that mods make that when you Grind down a block it gives you just scrap of each component, that way makes more sense to avoid grinding stuff and reutilize them. Combined with the "Welding Pad" mod you can reattach blocks to existing grids with out grinding them

    That script is good, you can do a wide variety of arm styles. I immediately think of my granddad's tractor, which has 2 buckets on arm booms with 4 joints each lol

    This was awesome! Would love to see your further take on it. Like the concept fully developed into a vehicle and how you might use it. EG a battery movement thing to charge at one point then merge block it to another ship? Or even cargo containers etc. And maybe large grid version too??

    How to use mirror mode: place down your block in the center that you want to mirror on then press M you will see a colored plain indicating that mirror mode is on. this plain will move wherever your mouse points and pressing m again will change the plain it is on, also you can put a mirror through a block or in between 2 blocks. to place down the mirror left click and then you can leave mirror mode. to enable mirror mode on your ship you can press N and now in creative mode. now if you place blocks on one side of a ship it will be placed on the other side as well. how neat is that!

    I have followed this great tutorial and got it working. There are some minor changes/problems here is how to solve them.
    - Make sure the cockpit you control the crane from has the same name as in the script "Cockpit"
    - The string variables are now at the top of the script when you first download it from the workshop. (I think the script has been updated in the workshop)
    - One piston is called boom in the tutorial later it is called extend in the script. Make sure these names are the same.
    - When you recompile the script and there is a problem with: for example a variable name you can see the debug information on the screen.

    Hey, i have a concept for you when using this script. If you ever heard of an old game called Battlezone 2, I've always wanted to make a hover vehicle that moves and bends like they do. Here is a very short example.

    Sitting, the tail ends would have a slite ark. Going forward would make the tail ends extend, side by side is seen in video, as well as stopping, which is done by clicking the S key, which would make you go backwards after stopping.
    A hover scripd would also be needed.
    I've thought about adding thrusters to moving parts as well, but a script for that would be needed as well.
    Anyway, whats your take on this artsy idea?

    Well there is something that you can show, how to you set up a drill ship. So the drills are controlled by the mouse. With the right klick drills it and with the left klick it collects and drills.

    lets say that you want the boom to have multiple pistons, how would you add that to the script?

      From what I recall, you can set it up with a group name and add it in the script. It's been a bit since I played around with this script, so I could be wrong.

    Great Crane Setup. But it has a little flaw in my opinion. As it is, you can't reach things below the Crane. But that can be solved by replacing the armorblocks next to the Cockpit with another piston. Like "ReverseLift". Just my 2ct.

    Can i somehow limit the range those block can move in ? For example instead of the rotor rotating around full 360 degrees can i limit it to only 180?

    Imo Industrial Cockpit is the best one, used in my Behemot, amazing and clear fov with cool thin window frames :3

    I've seen people make turrets using gyros and zero torque rotors, could be used to make the cockpit swivel scriptless

    I got this to work once on my world, then could never get it to work again, even on a singleplayer game! Very confused, have they broken the script with a new update or anything?

    Built large grid version, receive code editor error - Program[35,13]: The field 'Program.initialzied' is assigned but its value is never used. Crane does not operate.

    Trying to recreate this crane without the script on console though I'm having an issue. If the small grid rover isn't anchored to the ground with landing gear, and I extend the piston, the entire rig freaks out and does flips. Lowering the Max Impulse NonAxis stops this, but it also stops the piston from extending. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Do the physics on the console version just not allow for this?

      You may need to use landing gear, both to hold the Rover and the cargo to the Rover if trying to transport it.

      The script still works. We use it very often. The script area that I usually forget to update is the cockpit or remote control name. That is the string between the speed adjustment and the name of each moveable part such as hinges, rotors, and pistons.

    Could the boom be made long enough/strong enough to lift a rover or ship up off the ground? Like if the ship crashed and the bottom hard to reach stuff needed repairs.

      if the lifted vehicle weighs more than the lifting vehicle, it'll pick the lifter up. If you have the lifter attached to a larger grid or base grid using connectors/landing gear, then you'll be fine.

    I made this exact crane on a large grid, I entered in the script, but nothing happens. No errors in the programmable block. What am I doing wrong?

      Recompile and run. Also you have to enter which block does what In the script

      He only put one piston. Add more and group them. He specifically addressed this in the video.

    You can have spaces, c sharp deletes them anyways and the same goes for capitalized letters
