The market for techno is saturated with excellently produced music which in turn masks the lack of soul and feeling. I hope young producers will get back to the origns of the music and bring back the message of the men that came before them like this man. Thank you for the music Juan
thank you RA & Chloe lula for this special interview 🙏🤩 Juan what to say ... No words need....only a huge thank you for experimenting new sounds for us in advance. search and feel deeply💛🏴☠️🖤 tresor no berghain is politics 🤣
Damn, Juan talking about his teenager years using drum pattern samples from a library music record and overdubbing with his Korg MS10 and bass guitar. Imagine: jungle but born in Detroit. Though I guess you couldn’t technologically do jungle on an industrial scale without cheap and powerful samplers… so late 80s at the earliest
Techno has become another viably commercial product with a big red bow on top of it for the masses to consume. It is now simply a product that generates revenue. Gone are the days from UR, Drexiya or the Detroit mind set that made it special to begin with.
Actually it's been rebounding since bankruptcy. Cheap rent, housing, etc and folks with money coming in and buying cheap and rearranging the city. Artists, etc, that have money coming in and doing the "Detroit thing." This is good though!
I’ve seen Juan throw down some amazing DJ sets back in the day. Probably can be called inconsistent as a DJ, but when he was into it was as good as there was behind the decks.

Detroit radio, especially Mojo had such an impact on so many lives, including mine. The same can be said for Juan and Techno.
Godfather of techno, nuff said.
Truly.
Great content, wise questions and wise answers. A true icon of this sound we all cherish.
luv you Juan! More releases please. thank you Resident Advisor.
Respect to this man!
Amazing, really amazing interview. Thanks R.A.
Juan is so quirky in his genius. I love him.

Don’t get it twisted, it’s the BELLEVILLE FOUR: Derrick May, Juan “Magic” Atkins, Kevin “MasterResse” Saunderson, AND EDDIE “FLASHIN’” FOWLKES.
Eddie is that you?😂
Eddie had serious funky grooves. Time To Express!
@@sooperheep😂
and many many others from Detroit
Wonder why that one audience question towards the end is digitally edited out?
Yeah, I couldn't understand what he said. Something in regards to Tresor and Berghain.
❤
RA doing long form interviews now?
What a smart move to start doing it with Mr.Atkins himself
client_03 is the testbed

no its not over
Inspiration of the millennium
Detroit connection to Japan with automotive industry brought anime sci-fi and drum machines
Dj nobu is brilliant
They should have let that Glaswegian fella do the interview
Look at Detroit now... A wasteland...

@ that’s awesome
@ Pretty sure the on and off crack habit hasn’t helped being able to match a beat. He is who he is though
@pdxraves Not sure if that's true. I heard it was diabetes.
