That is the one thing I always loved about Earnhardt. He sat there with 7 championships and 76 wins, and when asked if he thought he was the best, he still denied it. Dale Earnhardt was very successful, but still remained very humble, he never got a big head. I still miss him too.

Behind that intimidator name, he is nice, helpful, and funny.

He may have been the intimidator on the track but he was the most gracious and generous person off the track that you’d ever meet. Not many know of all the good he did for others. He had a heart of gold and drove the car of black. NASCAR has never been the same since February 2001.

@tjazz05 It actually was later diagnosed as a chemical reaction like Dale was talking about. He had a fresh tomato and some actron which is a muscle relaxer. Eating a tomato allows you to take in more fluids and become better hydrated. Dale normally ate the tomato before races, the day at Darlington he took the actron as well and he had a chemical reaction. It had nothing to do with his death which was from a basular skull fracture.

I used to say he wasn't the best. I used to say Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson were better. My mind has been kind of changing lately. He was consistently good. Facts are facts: his average finish is better than Jeff or Jimmie. Jeff and Jimmie still have more wins, but I have to give credit to Dale for always being in contention even on the day he died. The man was still going strong at almost 50 years old.

Sport just isn’t as fun. It’s so corporate now and all about money. @LUCKYDUCKY 62 The impact of that dega crash in 1996 was way harder than the crash that killed him at Daytona. The crash that killed him was because of the angle of the impact. Our heads, neck and spine rotate and they're all connected. His neck hyper-extended at Daytona and caused his brain stem to separate from his body. This is documented and proven a million times over. The dega crash was more of a side impact and slightly forward, which is why he broke his shoulder.

Rocket Man in the beginning yes... but he was building a career. He came from the “as long as they have a place to live and a roof over their heads and food to eat I’m doing good. After his daughter was born with Theresa, he completely changed cause he already had the career. He built DEI for his kids and their legacy. That’s not turning your back on them

Same. To me, it wasn't his driving and all the wrecks he caused (i.e intimidation) that made him so good. It was his determination like hanging out the window to clean his windshield at Richmond. NASCAR has sucked ever since he died.

It was after that wreck at Talledega that DW's wife, Stevie, started giving Dale a scripture passage before every race to tape in his car. If she didn't find him to give him the scripture he looked for her. I think Stevie knew Dale needed the encouragement and strength at first to get over the fear. The last scripture at the 2001 Daytona 500 was Psalm 18:10. Stevie came to the track that day just to give it to Dale. You can read about it on Internet. Type a search: "Dale Earnhardt scripture."

Dale knew that day in February 2001 would be his last. He had to make a deal with God. Listen to his interviews right before that day. Dale helps MW to push him across the finish line that day. He has never helped anyone win but himself. R.I.P. 3.

A lot of great quotes. Whether you liked him or hated him you respected him. Espn would have to have him in the highlights for every race because his name is so recognized even by people who never watched nascar I got into nascar because of sr and that was when he was a 5 time champ. He was the best and he goes with nascar like jordan and nba (never watched nba after jordan retired and never will) and gretsky to nhl and woods to pga. Love nascar too much to stop watching miss old school nascar.

This dega rollover was from the 96 DieHard 500 that was won by Jeff Gordon, if any wreck would've killed the man, seems like this one would've been it. Somehow though he managed to climb from the car with only alot of broken bones. The man got in his car at Watkins Glen not long after this race & put the Goodwrench Chevy on pole, broken bones & all...

It honestly makes sense that the Talledega wreck wasn’t fatale. It wasn’t a sudden stop when he hit the wall. He hit the wall at an angle that kept his momentum going forward
