+MostlyPostie well, strangely enough, i like technical stuff of bikes - find that interesting - but i'm not so keen on reviews, because i'm not a biker, and all of it doesn't tell me ANYTHING. Chris Harris on bikes is exactly what motorcycling journalism needs. Shame though it will be years, maybe decades before you are as comfy on a bike as you are in a car. But I think your noob status will help provide the perfect context for people who are in love with cars who don't know a Scrambler from a Suzuki. Low key motorcycles are still everything most folks wish performance cars could be. Giggle like a school girl fast, dirt cheap, only for the committed. Truthfully, anyone who complains about wanting "pure" cars who hasn't considered or taken up motorcycling is kind of full of shit.....
+future62 I'm sure there's significant truth in that. I guess the first problem is that I don't want to kill myself and don't trust myself not to do that on a bike. I also love living with cars - jumping into to them on a whim, using them, sharing them with passengers, the way they fit seamlessly into life. Even a pretty pure car is something you can use very spontaneously and share with others - my car only has two seats, but it's still really usable for two people. The need to put on special clothes and a helmet is very off putting for me. Then there's the fact that I love cars as objects, as things to look at. Bikes don't interest me much on that level. No doubt they would with more first hand experience. But while the thought of biking has crossed the mind, ultimately there's not actually any need and it's never been a serious consideration. New cars have gone to shit, that's for sure. But if you want proper driving purism in a car, it's totally achievable. So it doesn't really matter that new cars move further and further from that over time. Just don't buy a new car!
If sharing with others is key for you, then yea I can see how cars would be more appealing. Sporty bikes suck with passengers. The appreciation for details on a motorcycle comes with riding them. For example I don't play the saxophone so I can't really appreciate the details of them. The special clothes thing is legitimate I guess but you get used to it. Cars that deliver engagement on the level of motorcycles (go karts, Atoms, anything open wheel essentially) will probably require at least a helmet anyway. Not to mention a lot of older cars are not a ton safer than motorcycles. Obviously they still are much safer, but something like an old Miata is basically paper maiche at this point, integrity wise. Plus a decent rider on a motorcycle can avoid accidents better, and motorcycles have much better visibility (basically SUV height). Also depends how folks drive around motorcycles.... I am in motorcycle country. But yea, I realized early on pretty much no car I can ever afford will deliver the grins and required focus of my bike at speed. Only thing I've driven that comes close is go karts.
+future62 I'm not arguing against bikes being super involving. And I already conceded that more exposure would heighten my interest in them as objects. My main point is that you can be be a purist re cars and have no particularly pressing need to consider bikes simply because cars can deliver, a fact that really says nothing about bikes at all. It's not a great deal more complicated than that and it doesn't follow that one is full of shit for not seriously considering bikes. New cars are mostly awful and if that's all I had to chose from, then very likely I'd take a much closer look at the bike option. I have little doubt that new bikes basically annihilate new cars in a lot of the areas I care about. But that isn't the reality I'm operating and not a choice I have to make because I'm not restricted to new cars. To put it another way, I play a lot of tennis. Am I full of shit because I don't give serious consideration to playing squash? I would be if I had a major insoluble issue with tennis and refused to recognise that squash directly addressed it. But I don't. I love playing tennis while making no comment on squash. One cannot do everything in life. Does that make sense?
Chris, mate, i hate to tell you this, but your matter-of-fact and honest approach to reviewing makes you the perfect motorcycle reviewer. don't fear any preconceptions or stereotypes, just give it a go. bikes are too mired in image and big-numbers-with-trashy-rock-music-accompaniment nonsense (see: MCN). the whole bike culture needs a down to earth champion like yourself to step in, once in a while, and remind everyone why it's fun and reasonable to get on a 2-wheeled machine and plonk about on country roads. your inexperience is your ally. be that guy who's experiencing things for the first time and telling people about it. don't be that all-too-familiar wizened superbike veteran who's bored unless their new flavour of crotch rocket has over 200hp in short. love your attitude, love your perspective. would like to see more!
+Justin Su OPfcourse there will still be 4 wheel shows, it's just really hard to drift a wheelchair. But since when does that stop Harris doing it anyay??
Wow I'm no bike enthusiast but in typical Chris Harris style I was drawn in to this video and now have a greater appreciation of our two-wheeled friends....
Nice! I'd like to see more Chris Harris on Bikes. But I'd like to see more of the thoughtfulness you bring to cars. "Who is the Scrambler designed for, what should it achieve, and has it done that?" That.
I love motorcycles, and this is a great surprise to see you reviewing this Scrambler. It will take years to get familiar with the feel of the bikes in a way you could describe in a youtube vid but having someone "green" reviewing the bikes it's also a good thing. It can give different insight for someone not that experienced. Perfect, keep up good work Chris.
I have no problem with Chris doing whatever he wants in his videos. This one wasn't really up to the standard of CHoC though. Obviously, doing more bike videos would ensure Chris and Neil get the hang of it and I'm sure they would be top quality in no time. Then again, "Chris Harris on Cars" has become a brand now, not sure how it would fare if it started expanding to "lifestyle", but Chris is smarter than that... P.S. we need to hear that story about you being arrested, Chris. You know that.
+Leuff I think it has a lot to do with the fact that he does not know what to compare it with, he hasnt got as much referense as he has with cars. I would say the quality of the video is just as good apart from the audio cracking up sometime but the only thing missing is more knowledge!
I enjoy all Chris' videos. And as a Moto enthusiast and Ducatista, was pleasantly surprised to see him test ride the Scrambler and mention his personal ride is a Monster. Bravo, Chris...
Yes man, you should definitely get more into bikes. Anything with a motor that will take to "not so legal" speeds is grand!!! Very good looking bike btw. Cheers!
+Mark Williams Both engine and motor are correct: "An engine, or motor, is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into mechanical energy". Stop being pedantic. Also, use that comma where it needs to be used. Otherwise your statement sounds like an unfinished question (and to answer your statement the way it's written, as a question, the answer is "No" ;) ).
I've been considering one of these for a while and having watched the "professionals" review the bike all I can say is what a pleasure it was to watch this. An honest, no nonsense review from a biker who wasn't trying to blind me with bullshit. Excellent work.
ive rode motocross bikes for years!, ive done my CBT and been on the road for about 5 days, of course doing motocross has made me confident in my "talent" or "skill" so i can know that i can throw it into the corners and i wont fuck up ! but good to see you on a bike! you are what the biking journalism needs, starting from scratch makes that even better because its a completely honest opinion! great stuff
Awesome Chris! I think you should do more of these. You're so much better than the typical moto-journalist. Plus hearing a relatively new rider review bikes would be refreshing! I want one of these, BTW... the yellow one.
Thank you for doing motorbikes also, I have to say that one of the things that I like the most of your stile as a journalist is the narrative you use. I may love car way more than bikes, but I've had a bike for a few year and it's an outstanding feeling.
of course you are not a moto-journalist, you are not an auto-jorno either... you're a great story teller who happens to love autos and bikes! your gifts are your speech and charisma, your narrative is awesome. I think everyone would be pleased with 'Chris Harris on Machines', simpler. love your vids Chris & Neil, KUTGW!
As a biker of 20 years... I like your review, you have no pretensions, and give zero fucks. Bravo. I still won't buy a Ducati, but I'm slightly less hostile towards them.
Next week- Chris Harris on Tugboats, featuring tidal drifting.... I'll get my coat. Nice review Chris, I understand your comfort level being at an event with pros when you're a newbie is really weird sensation, kudos for pulling it off so calmly.
+MPorto wrx You're kidding, right? Aprilias are incredibly expensive, are slower than the Japanese liter bikes, and are not all that great to ride on a road. They are decent on the track, and certainly better than Ducati, but nowhere near the level of the leaders of the pack (R1 and S1000rr in particular). If Ducati and Aprilia were in the $15-19,000 range then I could talk about them as being serious competitors with a straight face. It's a valid blanket statement that has been well earned by the Italian bikes. While we're at it, let's throw that blanket on all Italian cars...
+MPorto wrx you're right, the MSRP I was looking at was for the RF model. I don't keep up with Aprilia because I was very unimpressed with the two RSV4's I rode before deciding on my current bike. The dealers were also asking $14,000+ for 2010-2012 bikes with nearly 20k miles. They rode very rough, idled rough, riding position was too aggressive for comfortable daily cruising...I was not impressed. Ditto for the Ducati 1098 and 1198 I also cross shopped, only with the addition of the infamous Ducati hot seat problem. I was however very impressed with every Japanese bike I rode except the CBR (I'm tall and don't fit well on the CBR) and the BMW S1000RR - all of which were several thousand dollars cheaper. And the S1000RR is LOADED with tech. The 2016 RSV4 looks impressive on the track, but again it has a very rough ride and too aggressive a riding position for street cruising.
Oh Chris... you represent us "middle-aged saddoes" to extremely well!!! I've been riding almost 45 year but have never gotten my bike license. Cheers to you!!!
Chris, we are fans of you. You could review cookware for all we care and most of us will still watch, because it'll probably remain entertaining. Also, it's fair to assume that lots of folks who are into cars are also into motorcycles. So enjoy your new hobby and keep producing awesome videos!
Reading through these comments I'm surprised at how many car people seem to dislike bikes. I'd call myself a car guy, but I spend a lot of my day lusting after bikes just as much, even though I don't own one yet. They are fascinating things even just to look at, let alone ride.
As a die hard car guy who's also slightly interested in niche(lifestyle) bikes like this, you know nothing too fancy or showy or overpowered but just a handy little bike that looks good and is good to pootle about on, I really appreciate a car guys take on these things like this so i kinda of hope theres a few more to come .
This is better than most bike reviews actually because you used some of the best features of your car reviews like the slow motion action shots of the bike going over bumps, turning, wheel spinning, and slow motion close up shots of the bike. Nearly all bike reviews just talk and stand next to the bike, never giving much screen time of the bike.
On my way to Rotterdam this morning, I saw a Ducati Strangler in this exact colour and thought to myself, damn that's a very cool bike. Then I came home, saw this video, and damnit now I want one..
I love that you did a motorcycle but the audio was sub par compared to the usual awesome quality of your videos. I do appreciate the step out into new territory :)
NO NO- your great at this, seriously you are an excellent journalist no matter what your talking about. Just be honest like you always are. Cant wait to see you on the new Panigale V-4
This video really makes me miss his old, solid car reviews. Just one Audi A3 or what have you, great cinematography and his opinion as voiceover. Please Mr. Harris, no more £300k supercar launch events (or bikes for that matter).
Chris, thank you, thank you for being one of the few car journalists to do a bike video as well. I really, really love cars, but I love me my bikes too. If you're ever in Singapore and want to do a video, give me a heads up!
Yes! Do more bike videos Chris! You dont have to review them per say just tell us what you think. I rode a Scrambler and Monster 1200S and I liked the Scrambler more. It was very usable and chuckable I loved it.
absolutely awesome. I've only recently got onto bikes and the scrambler was already on my sights for a bike to buy in the future. I do have a soft spot for the triumph scrambler but the ducati scrambler in all angles ia a much better buy
Great film, Chris! You honestly could review your lunch each day and 90% of us would watch. If things like this would add more content to the channel, that would be mega.
By u referencing the movie On Any Sunday was perfect. Its hole premise was showing from complete rookie to seasoned pro.You fit in perfect. keep up the good work and keep them coming u lucky dog. Aloha
Fair play for putting this out. Personally I'd like to see more videos on bikes on the channel, helps stop all the car vs bike shit and help everyone realise that as long it's petrol powered, goes fast, sounds loud and looks cool, it doesn't really matter what it is, car or bike.
I agree with lots of the comments. As a middle class loser who passed his test two years ago and who is addicted to all things motorcycling. Especially my triumph scrambler. Chris is PERFECT to review bikes. MORE!!!
It's funny, because, for the first time, I can see you and think "hehe, I have better experience than him". Welcome to the Riding world, have fun Chris !! :-)
Hey chris wonderful video as always. I don't actually like bikes but I don't care as long as long as you're in the video it's cool. Cheers from Venezuela
I love Chris Harris on Cars, and cars is what it should be all about. But as someone whose driveway space is shared between an MT-09 and an M135i, his occasional thoughts on bikes are very welcome! I'm sure Chris and Neil would have something to bring to the party in any collaboration and many of the equivalent bike channels lag behind them in terms of their production (looking at you MCN and Visordown). It might be interesting to see features looking at Honda's new NSX paired with RC213V-S or a future Fireblade, or BMW M Sport and the S1000RR. Still looking forward to focussed car reviews though and can't wait to see what Chris makes of the BMW M2!
Good effort, no idea you did your bike test that bike doesn't do anything for me though as much as like the name Scrambler. If I buy another bike it will have to be the Panigale, I mostly want it just to look at though..
Damn it Chris...I watch your vids to forget about two wheel hooliganism. I retired from rac...riding 7 years ago. Now I feel the need for a dirt bike to moto around!
As a car nut I've started riding bikes 3 years ago and my favorite car reviewer and journo has started riding and reviewing bikes :) .... That tells me something ;)
Mate, nothing to be embarrassed about, I've been riding for 8 years and still wobble around loads. Good video, didn't even realise you had gotten a motorcycle license.
Chris I've always liked your videos for the simple fact that you come across as the bloke next door and therefore I find I can associate with you. Now more so than ever I enjoyed this video because of it's pure amateur nature and the fact that I can say I'm a better rider than the best motor journalist in the world. :)
Nice one Chris. I saw one of these today and I quite liked it. Needs some loud pipes though! Just be careful out there on two wheels 'cos they're out to get ya!
I love the fact that even though Chris gets to drive cars we can on imagine sitting in..he is still enough of a curious motor head to take his bike license. I can tell you until you've blasted a big two wheeler down a back road you haven't really begun to live...
Chris is the only one, who can force me to watch something about bikes!
+Chrstian “Driver” mrclep
To me Mr. Regular and him are the only ones
Jason W. Morningwood Sometimes I can´t watch MR Regular.
+Jason W. Morningwood Who's Mr Regular?
SRM Solar radiation management Geoengineering Part of Puplic Agent, If you know him?
No. I'm not American.
You know, what? I don't give two fucks if Chris reviewed a bus or a lorry. It's still Chris Harris! All his reviews are great! LIKED!
+Chris Harris on Cars - I am cool with "Chris Harris on Anything he wants".... It's all good!
Yes, even my penis.....
Welcome to the internet, I guess.... Sigh...
next on the line is ass so watch out :d
+MostlyPostie well, strangely enough, i like technical stuff of bikes - find that interesting - but i'm not so keen on reviews, because i'm not a biker, and all of it doesn't tell me ANYTHING.
In case Chris (or his henchmen) read this dump hole, what i would like to see (in case of proper material shortage for any reasons) apart from the main content is some kind of general stuff about his own cars (if it's not a breach of privacy), or maybe some sort of vlogging in a neat fashion, or something like that. even talky-talky stuff would be interesting.
car journals seem way too polished to me, i don't really like those anymore.
+MostlyPostie I can totally imagine Chris Harris on fridges!
+MostlyPostie i would be disappointed if he is not on the new top gear
Does that make sense?
no it s the exact opposite...
+Vega Rapidus Just checked my notes. Sorry, they say it's perfect - peer reviewed, placebo, controlled, double blind. So, that's good!
Chris, mate, i hate to tell you this, but your matter-of-fact and honest approach to reviewing makes you the perfect motorcycle reviewer. don't fear any preconceptions or stereotypes, just give it a go.
bikes are too mired in image and big-numbers-with-trashy-rock-music-accompaniment nonsense (see: MCN). the whole bike culture needs a down to earth champion like yourself to step in, once in a while, and remind everyone why it's fun and reasonable to get on a 2-wheeled machine and plonk about on country roads.
your inexperience is your ally. be that guy who's experiencing things for the first time and telling people about it. don't be that all-too-familiar wizened superbike veteran who's bored unless their new flavour of crotch rocket has over 200hp
in short. love your attitude, love your perspective. would like to see more!
Do more! Become one of us. You know you want to.
+Roze TheHornet Lol yes. ASSIMILATE, ASSIMILATE!!!
He's got a monster so you know he rides that Id say he's one of us already

Nice! I'd like to see more Chris Harris on Bikes. But I'd like to see more of the thoughtfulness you bring to cars. "Who is the Scrambler designed for, what should it achieve, and has it done that?" That.

Loved the start of the video, Comedic gold. But cars or bikes doesn't matter, Chris Harris videos are the best.
The first time I've thoroughly enjoyed a review about bikes.
Yes man, you should definitely get more into bikes. Anything with a motor that will take to "not so legal" speeds is grand!!!
Very good looking bike btw. Cheers!
u mean an engine its not electric
An engine is an engine, could be petrol, diesel, electric or hydrogen. That's the same to me, as long as it's capable of putting a smile on your face.
+Mark Williams You mean an internal combustion engine
+Mark Williams Both engine and motor are correct: "An engine, or motor, is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into mechanical energy". Stop being pedantic.
Also, use that comma where it needs to be used. Otherwise your statement sounds like an unfinished question (and to answer your statement the way it's written, as a question, the answer is "No" ;) ).
Chris Harris drives the Ducati Scrambler "Not The Classic One" Model. I've waited ages for this.
I've been considering one of these for a while and having watched the "professionals" review the bike all I can say is what a pleasure it was to watch this. An honest, no nonsense review from a biker who wasn't trying to blind me with bullshit. Excellent work.
Do what you like to do Chris. Can't wait until you test drive the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV 2016.
ALL MY LIKES!
I've always wanted someone like CH but for bikes. Now we have CH!
Most excellent.
I love bikes as much as cars so any bike video you ever want to put up. Go ahead much appreciated sir! :)
Ok, cool bike etc....
BUT please review the Superbikes! hahaha
You already do the best cars reviews of all! We need good bike video reviews :D
Brilliant marketing move by Ducati, I want one now and I'm a car guy. Without this vid i wouldn't have known it existed.
chris could review washing machines and still make them look good.
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAASE CHRIS !!! NOT THE ONE OFF !!! ONCE A WEEK MAYBE A MONTH CHRIS HARRIS ON BIKES :-)

Well done Chris. I appreciate that. You have now reviewed both of my toys, my Cayman S and Scrambler. :-)
You need to review a panigale now. :)
Why? It's well known the Italian bikes are vastly inferior to the rest of the segment.
+Adeum Deus said no one about an aprilia ever ;) seriously, what kind of blanket statement is that?

As a die hard car guy who's also slightly interested in niche(lifestyle) bikes like this, you know nothing too fancy or showy or overpowered but just a handy little bike that looks good and is good to pootle about on, I really appreciate a car guys take on these things like this so i kinda of hope theres a few more to come .
This is even better, chris harris on bikes, If I could subscribe a second time I would. Please do more.
Even if it was a boat that you reviewed Chris, I would still take my time to watch it!
I love that you did a motorcycle but the audio was sub par compared to the usual awesome quality of your videos. I do appreciate the step out into new territory :)
Now you've got a bike you'll get bored of cars very soon ;)
Hes owned a bike for a long time
+Daniel Fox He said he took his bike test 4 or 5 months ago.
+IgWannA2 the cars he drives are not the cars you drive, you'll have to keep that in mind
+IgWannA2 yes, and he bought a Ducati Monster about that time so they're not that knew to him
+Daniel Fox 5 months is pretty damn new. After a few years bikes start taking over your life ;)
Imagine if Chris Harris becomes a motovlogger
it'd be a sad day
+GammaZ Tonga
vlog?!?! They're never good.
mcspikesky Disagree about vloggers but motovlogs I hugely disagree!
I will watch the shit out of it
+S Miller As soon as he fixes the audio it will be awesome!
I would love some more "Chris Harris on bikes"
Glad You've jumped on a bike Chris. I own Hypermotard from a Ducati and I'm a car enthusiast as well. Keep it up.
Chris whenever you feel ready to review bikes again, the motorcycle community will be more than happy to have you, mate!
NO NO- your great at this, seriously you are an excellent journalist no matter what your talking about. Just be honest like you always are. Cant wait to see you on the new Panigale V-4
A Chris Harris video with no drifts. Never thought I'd see the day.
Drift it, Chris! :D
As always great videos Chris. Keep them coming.
Glad to hear you got your bike license: welcome friend! Bikes are fun no matter what they are, so just ride and be happy.
I'm commenting before the video has even started because I am just so damn excited
I rode one and liked it a lot, really snappy off the bottom and revs right up. Feels quick and light, nice for a daily rider.
BRAVOOO! I applaud you for getting into motorcycles, especially because you are doing it in your own way. Awesome! More vids about bikes, please! :)
Do more motorcycle reviews! I swear there's lots of us who would watch
First time I'#ve seen someone else with the same jacket as me! Great review - always enjoy these!
LOL at the car snobs having a panic attack hes going to get hurt.
Yes! Do more bike videos Chris! You dont have to review them per say just tell us what you think.
I rode a Scrambler and Monster 1200S and I liked the Scrambler more. It was very usable and chuckable I loved it.
I love when Italian things _sound_ Italian.
I could make pasta with that exhaust note.
+Richard Harrold I nominate you for most Italian sounding sentence....
absolutely awesome. I've only recently got onto bikes and the scrambler was already on my sights for a bike to buy in the future. I do have a soft spot for the triumph scrambler but the ducati scrambler in all angles ia a much better buy
Refreshing view to see Chris on a bike ^^ Keep it rolling mate !
Love that bike, great video Chris, please do more. :)
Great film, Chris! You honestly could review your lunch each day and 90% of us would watch. If things like this would add more content to the channel, that would be mega.
By u referencing the movie
On Any Sunday was perfect.
I never thought I would ever see Chris on a bike... Not bad!
Chris Harris is becoming the Chris Harris of motorbike journalism!
More of this please 😁
Hey chris wonderful video as always. I don't actually like bikes but I don't care as long as long as you're in the video it's cool. Cheers from Venezuela
As long as*
lol, way to go Chris, on any Sunday!! didn't even knew you rode bikes
Chris Harris On.. Everything. "This spoon is absolutely magnificent!"
Good effort, no idea you did your bike test that bike doesn't do anything for me though as much as like the name Scrambler. If I buy another bike it will have to be the Panigale, I mostly want it just to look at though..
I like the fact that you are on bikes now !
Love it! Bring on the bike vid's Chris!
Another great review Chris!!!! Entertaining thanks
Damn it Chris...I watch your vids to forget about two wheel hooliganism. I retired from rac...riding 7 years ago. Now I feel the need for a dirt bike to moto around!
Wouldn't mind if there were more motorcycle reviews, Chris. I enjoyed it.
Chris! You should go into comedy! Love your self irony! That shows respect towards the hardcore bike journos! :)
Hell, I'd watch Chris Harris doing his errands
30-35 seconds in is where I hit 'like'.
Chris Harris on bikes is as bad an idea as Jeremy Clarkson riding a bike.
Why?
You think your reviews are great ?
As a car nut I've started riding bikes 3 years ago and my favorite car reviewer and journo has started riding and reviewing bikes :) .... That tells me something ;)
Mate, nothing to be embarrassed about, I've been riding for 8 years and still wobble around loads. Good video, didn't even realise you had gotten a motorcycle license.
Well done Chris, keep up the good work.
Chris I've always liked your videos for the simple fact that you come across as the bloke next door and therefore I find I can associate with you.
Now more so than ever I enjoyed this video because of it's pure amateur nature and the fact that I can say I'm a better rider than the best motor journalist in the world. :)
you're an accomplished journalist and to have you write/make videos of your first experiences on two wheels would be great.
Nice one Chris. I saw one of these today and I quite liked it. Needs some loud pipes though! Just be careful out there on two wheels 'cos they're out to get ya!
Chris, do more bikes! We like it.
I love the fact that even though Chris gets to drive cars we can on imagine sitting in..he is still enough of a curious motor head to take his bike license. I can tell you until you've blasted a big two wheeler down a back road you haven't really begun to live...
