Geologist Camp Tour | Field Research Essentials

- University of Arizona Geoscience PhD students Caden Howlett and Chance Ronemus recently completed a ten-week field season in the south-central Andes of South America (31-36S). This video provides an informal camp tour and will hopefully be helpful for any person who conducts field research (or simply enjoys camping). Please reach out with any geology-related questions and I hope you enjoy the video.
Our work is part of an interdisciplinary effort to understand the geologic evolution of the Andean mountain belt (TANGO; the “Trans ANdean Great Orogeny”). Funding for this research is provided by the Frontier Research in Earth Sciences (FRES) program and the National Science Foundation (NSF). For more information on the broader work being conducted, see the link below:

Ur videos are like my motivation each time i see one " keep uploading them
thanks a lot, it gives me motivation to keep making vids!
Keep ‘em coming, man! These are great videos!
Thanks for always supporting Jacob. Hope research is going well.
Please keep on making videos!
Beard is FULL my man looks good
hehe love u bro
I have so many videos to catch up on, but I am glad to start my mornings with your videos. Gets me going and motivates me to study geology everyday!
❤️❤️
Thank you, your vlogs inspires me to work hard!
Currently doing my Masters Geology😊
Thanks Swulika, keep up the hard work
Good stuff!
Great content!
Yooo thanks for watching!
hi! greetings from first year degree geology student from Malaysia. thank you for the great contents, cant wait for my first fieldwork soon!
hi! yay enjoy your fieldwork, it is the best!
Lets go!
awesome vids, I've just accepted a job doing remote work in australia taking gravity readings, need some inspiration to prepare me... I've learnt from this video to put more work into camp meal prep haha. maybe ill do some "field trip feeds" videos one day if i survive my first swing ^_^ xoxo
Haha hell yes sounds like a cool job. have fun and make sure u get all your nutrients
When we getting the DIY trekking pole Jacob’s staff vid? 👀
Haha good idea man!
What kind of fieldback pack do you have/recommend? mine was an old backpack from my dad that will surely not survive my next fieldwork trip
I have a Haglofs Roc rescue pack (40L). It is ideal, but sadly they are not made anymore. I prefer something that you can front load (i.e., that unzips on its backside, so you don't have to open the top every time you need something). My buddy Chance has used Hyperlite packs, which are light and durable. You should go to REI or some kind of outdoor store and try on some packs, and think about carrying things like a rock hammer, iPad, etc and what would be most conducive to smooth field access.
I'm studying physics, now I wanna be a geoscientist hahaha
hehe physics is cool too! You would probably thrive in geophysics! A great subdiscipline that can also offer lots of field experience.
