What's your thoughts about it so far? Want to buy one aswell, but no one has uploaded any pics they have taken with it really, so its hard to zoom in and se the details...
The hacks are only written to RAM so they are removed when restarting the camera with an empty SD-card. Still it's good to be careful and there can be some strange behavior. For example my camera crashes when I turn on zoom in video.
@@devilscigaretteband Hi, I've recently acquired the camera and haven't had the chance to thoroughly test it yet. My initial impression is that it might be challenging to capture good photos with it. The autofocus seems a bit unpredictable, and manual focusing is not easy, although there's a helpful function for zooming into the focused area. The image quality is decent (only that), but I find it puzzling that it doesn't include RAW format by default, especially considering its original cost of $600 back in 2006 (equivalent to 828 euros today, I've made the conversion). Honestly, if you're not buying it as a collector's item and are specifically interested in this camera, I would opt for a higher-end model with an articulated screen, better manual controls and RAW format, even though it might be possible to hack it. That's all I can tell you for now. As an object and in terms of design, it's a beautiful camera.
My go-to PowerShot camera has been the G6, but after grabbing a G7 for a great deal, it gives my daily digicam a run for its money. I took the G7 to a couple of events and shoots and really liked the controls and colors. The G7 is definitely overlooked and I think it's a good balance between retro digicam and modern point and shoots.
I have owned the G1-G11-G12,and G15. Didn't like the Bulk of the G11 and G12. The G15 was very nice, especially in the hand. However sometimes it would try to search for good focus. But I still by FAR like Canon's ease of finding functions in their menu system
I've tried the G11 as well, didn't like it so much. The G7 is slightly smaller and has nicer color rendition. And, yeah, the menus are fantastic on the Canon, also the newer Gx-series has the same system, which makes it very easy to switch between their old and new models.
I mostly don't, often the files don't have so much latitude anyway, for RAW I prefer DSLRs. One exception is the Pro1, I only use RAW files on that camera. Thanks for watching!
oh thank goodness. I have a G7 that I have dug out from the cupboard but we cannot find the battery charger. Can you please tell me where I can buy the charger. Its great to know that when I finally get it charged I can follow your videos
In daylight it holds up well, in low light it produces very noisy photos. The built in flash is quite good though. Modern smartphones rely a lot on computational photography and AI, and the photos tend to look kind of fake. The photos from the G7 look much more realistic. In general the G7 is good as a first camera and it has all the manual settings available.
Hey i have this exact camera but my batteries are dead and not working i looked everywhere but i couldn’t find a place that sell those same batteries do u know where i can find it ?
There are 3rd party manufacturers, searching for "NB-2LH" should find some. The quality varies a lot though, but for example Patona makes ok batteries.
Hi! I just bought a G7 because of this video! Could you by chance do a CHDK tutorial for the camera? I am having trouble figuring it out! Also, beautiful pictures!!!
Hi! Thanks for watching! Yeah the instructions for CHDK are confusing at first. I've actually been planning to make a video about CHDK for another Canon, but I think I will do it with this camera instead, it's the one I use most after all.
Hello! You can try resetting the camera or check the audio settings. I have the same problem but unfortunately I've not been able to fix it. I just get a hissing sound, so it might be a hardware related issue.
Hi! I just got this camera and I can’t get the SD card to be read on any of my devices. I format the card in camera and it works but then when I put it into a reader my computer always says it needs to be formatted. Does the G7 not format in exFat? I tried low level formatting on my camera too and it didn’t work. Any advice would be appreciated!!!
Sounds like it could be a problem with the sensor, odd things like this tends to happen with CCD sensors and in that case the only solution is to change the sensor. Or it could be a software issue, try resetting the settings (there is a function for it somewhere in the menu). If that doesn't work check the raw files, the raws can be enabled with hacks (CHDK).
HI, i have the opportunity to buy either the G7 or G9 ... the G7 its cheaper, but i heard alot about the G9. DO you think it changes alot between cameras??? Thanks :)
Hi! They are both very similar, the G9 is slightly faster, has improved controls and RAW-files (though they can be activated on the G7 with CHDK). I haven't used the G9 so I can't comment on the image quality but they are probably not so different. I would say the condition of the camera is more important. Check for scratches on the lens or the camera, smoothness of the zoom/focus, sensor dust, broken buttons, condition of the battery, the flash and if the microphone is working.
hello Mikael R, I just bought this camera but I don't know the first thing about photography, can you please tell me your settings for this camera and some parameters(like ISO, f, ...) that u used when taking those photos.
Hello! First you can check out a guide about the basics of exposure, for example this: photographylife.com/what-is-exposure-triangle For this camera specifically I keep the ISO low in daylight, like 80-200. It's very noisy on the higher ISO values. Otherwise the P-mode works great for general photography and I usually keep it on that setting.

Exactly my experience also after first trying the G5 and then the G7!
I’m struggling to gel with this camera. At least the colour profiles. The BnW are very nice
I haven't tried the B/W, for color I usually have it on the vivid setting.

The battery charger you need is Canon CB-2LWE. I don't think they are made new anymore but there should be plenty on the used market.
thanks
Hello Mikael. I am looking to enter photography with this. May I ask how does this camera hold up to a modern iPhone?

What size is your memory card?
Should I get a g9 or g7
Whichever you can find for a good price.
hii, I bought this camera in a flea market and the photos are green, would you have any idea why that is happening?
