Bought the farm refers to an old saying about what happens when an Aviator dies. Essentially, back in the early days of Aviation (especially in the US) it was not uncommon for aviators to die by crashing, particularly on Farms. When this happened, the government would pay the farmer for any damages that occurred due to the crash. These could get expensive depending on what was damaged (ie. Fields, Animals, Barns, Houses) so at some point you end up "Buying the Farm"

"bought the farm" is military slang, basically when you die your family gets paid and a lot of enlisted wanted to literally settle down and buy a farm. So your death literally buys the farm.
Now you must do a Captain Cosmos run with only the Captain Cosmos stuff from the Creation Club. Must side with the Minutemen because he's a hero, can't switch out his weapons or power armors look. Can't use any glitches or exploits, can't switch the cryo gun to a laser gun etc.
"Bought the farm" is actually quite morbid in it's meaning. The phrase has changed over the years, as it used to be "bought the plot". It's a direct reference to Judas Iscariot who was paid 30 pieces of silver by the Pharisees for selling Christ out. After discovering that Christ was to be crucified after his betrayal, Judas tried to give back the money but the Pharisees refused, so he took it and bought a potter's field (basically a clay-rich piece of land that served as a way to sell clay to local potters by digging graves in it, typically owned and operated by the priests as a way to fund the church) - this 'field of blood' as it's sometimes referred to is where criminals and the poor were commonly buried. Judas bought the land and then proceeded to hang himself on a tree in the plot of land. He thereby bought his own grave. The phrase has obviously changed a bit in it's meaning to simply refer to dying these days.
It would actualy be really cool to have a game mode in which you get to play a basic robot and eventualy you get to mod yourself using a robot workbench.
I have a decent amount of respect for you because 10 hours to get to Virgil's laboratory is amazing I would have quit after 1 hour also I like the mah-dry-bread style presentation
This is a great fricking challenge and I'm really happy you took my advice on doing mods because I haven't seen much crazy shit like this in a while! As an aside I don't care about Patreon rewards. Patreon is just a way for me to support creators. For others though you have almost nothing on yours, so I would suggest some minor videos, Q&As, etc. Just a few things to fill out the tiers. It's okay to have 25 be just for extra support but the rest should be mildly unique rewards at least. Maybe anyone in tier $4 can vote among three choices you present on a poll for the next challenge sometimes? Or once a month it's a 'fan choice challenge' and it's a few more choices? Gives you freedom for most of your vids and you still get to decide what goes on the poll, so you do have some choice there too.
The patreon is more so for just supporting the channel in my eyes. I don't want to do extra things on it that slow down making videos since I am working on two seperate challenges. I could maybe do Q&As but in the past those have been a bit boring as I'd get 1 maybe 2 questions a month. It's hard to come up with ideas that don't conflict with the channel membership benefits since a lot of what you mentioned is already in the channel membership. I can try and come up with more, maybe I'll post the run updates from the channel membership benefits to the patreon as well. We'll see, for now it's just a way for people to support me, if you want more benefits the channel memberhsip is a better choice.
@@WillowPlaysGames Ah, yeah, I don't touch youtube or give it money that way. Fair enough on that point though. Is UA-cam membership doing better then patreon these days? Interesting.
Patreon does better from sheer numbers, all but 2 people on there are there for my original UA-cam channel, not for this one. which is why benefits are harder as well, most people there aren't interested in the challenge runs. as I said I'll look into things.
@@WillowPlaysGames No, that's all fair and good points. If it works better for you then my advice isn't anything useful. I didn't even realize you had another channel, honestly.
Thank you for this video, I was having a particularly bad night during a long period of sickness and after many hours with this video I actually managed to calm down and get some sleep. Not that it was boring, I'll be rewatching it today!
I take people falling asleep to my videos as a compliment ngl. I do it all the time and it's almost always on videos I actually like. if a video is bad or boring I'll much sooner click off it than fall asleep to it. I hope you start feeling better btw!

6:16 A common lie parents use to tell their children is that their pets went to a farm when they died. However Google says Origin of Bought-the-farm May come from the common reflection that servicemen would often dream of saving up to go home and buying a farm to settle on after the war or their deployment is up, but the deceased receive a small plot of land (the grave) automatically.
Now I really want a series based on a protection slowly developing sapience as it explores an early wasteland, developing a friendship with a cat that hides in his chassis. Ends in it being too damaged to function while saving the cat, shutting down, then being repaired and rebooted by some settlers decades later to serve as a guard for them for decades
I think most viewers wouldn't mind if you enable fast travelling for future runs. It saves you time, energy and sanity If it's something you want of course. And if you're not sure you can just make a community pole
Damn, that must be pain to do the run XD Respect for you not rage quitting from it! This is why you shall never F with a protectron. (Am kinda curious tho if doing this but as a mister handy or something)
I'm so thankful yet so sorry you put yourself through this. Have you considered just trying to redo it as an assaultron? The mostly melee but superior agility should be amusing, especially if you can occasionally use the laser.
a little tip i kind of came upon when i did my mostly vats sniper build: on pc you can press q for vats then usually(not always for some creatures) you can press w and it will target the head-no more finicky clicking on the box for the head- and then you can press q to select head and then e to shoot to completely eliminate mouse entirely.
I’ve always wanted a mod that let you play the game as a different creature entirely, like a Protectron, Glowing One, Deathclaw, Mr Handy… but not just swapping your character model out, I mean getting to actually be that creature and stuck with its abilities. This comes incredibly close!
Great video, but holy crap that's a ton of work. Good on you for seeing it through. And also, you missed the opportunity to say that you gave Dr. Amari a piece of Kellog's mind!

This was hilarious. Ya got a new subscriber here. LOL All I could think of was, 'you should have pimped out your ride.' LMAO Great and fun run. Well done for not quitting.
May come from the common reflection that servicemen would often dream of saving up to go home and buying a farm to settle on after the war or their deployment is up, but the deceased receive a small plot of land (the grave) automatically.

The term "Bought the farm" originated from aviators in the early to mid 20th century and reading that many others have pointed out the addage as a pilot crashing their plane onto a farmer's land and being compensated for it is true to where it began. But the term soon wandered outside of flyboy circles and into the other branches of the military and then normal civilian lexicon. In those examples "buying the farm" that does not have a connection to flying, the phrase takes on the meaning that many servicemen were going to retire to purchasing land with their substantial payouts when the war ended and they returned home. They were going to use this money to very often literally buy land for a farm. However, due to the mortality of many positions in the war, the only one who would see that money would be their wives or family. Meaning that in this context the deceased "bought the farm" for their wife and children by dying and allowing them to get that money. or simply the gallows humor of no longer being around, thus politely implying that they left "retired" and bought that farm.
Shaun:HOW THE FUCK DID WE LOST!!??? Institute scientist:its because of your robotic pre-war "father" who is a measly protectron Shaun:THAT MAKES NO SENSE!!
Bought the farm is a reference to airforce pilots crashing into farm fields and the farmers could sue the government. The pilot paid for the farm with his life.
22:43 Honestly here him say that my brain thought of Nick and Kellog sharing a body from that point on and there would just be moments in which Nick and Kellog start talking and bickering between each other and sometimes you can or have to get involved
Just realized your internet persona's face is the lexicon puzzle pedestal from skyrim. love the unique unexpected choice! Just found your content and enjoying it already.
It's actually not lmao. It was inspired by the lines and dots from a circuit board. I have had a bunch of people say it's that but I literally didn't think of that when making it!
"they moved to a farm upstate" was a phrase used to explain to children why they'll never see their dead relatives again. So naturally you get "bought the farm"
“Buy the farm” is like how you would explain to a child how grandpa died without saying it. “Where is grandpa?” “He went to live on a farm/he bought a farm”

I love your editing and how you never give up and ACTUALLY go through the pain of survival with these goofy challenges 😂 Anyways keep up the good work ❤
You have the patience of a Saint. Amazing run. Good work.
Lol, thanks!
This is probably one of the most entertaining fallout 4 video I’ve seen in years!
Glad you enjoyed ^^
35:20
Normal playthru: **Badass & heroic rampaging slaughter montage**
Protectron: Guess ill die...
This needs to be a speedrun category
I have a decent amount of respect for you because 10 hours to get to Virgil's laboratory is amazing I would have quit after 1 hour also I like the mah-dry-bread style presentation
still one of those small but the best tipe of channels love the vid pls keep it up :)
You know for being a relatively small channel, the video quality is fantastic and I love the content. Keep it up man.
Loved this challenge because of the deaths. Not because your character keeps dying LEGOS style but your patience and dedication to persevere through the insufferable amount times to retry… *breathes* and getting around the map.
Happy to hear that you are a fellow Protectron enjoyer
There’s a playable supermutant mod that would be fun to do a challenging run for and would love to see it.
Ok, so I saw the Assaultron run first, it was good, but this, this is the most fun I have had watchin a vid in ages. Havn't laughed this hard in a long while.
I’m hoping you used the Sarcasm option with Carla. The thought of a protectoron flirting with someone sounds hilarious. 😂
The gameplay for this one was super unique, thank you for putting up with the mod for us
These needs to be a series! Where you play through as each robot!

A common lie parents use to tell their children is
that their pets went to a farm when they died.
However Google says Origin of Bought-the-farm
May come from the common reflection that servicemen
would often dream of saving up to go home and buying a
farm to settle on after the war or their deployment is up,
but the deceased receive a small plot of land (the grave) automatically.
Lol
Having to slowly chase after Preston made me lol😂😂
I think most viewers wouldn't mind if you enable fast travelling for future runs. It saves you time, energy and sanity
If it's something you want of course. And if you're not sure you can just make a community pole
Damn, that must be pain to do the run XD
Respect for you not rage quitting from it!
Keep up the stellar job
Thank you! And I will!
a little tip i kind of came upon when i did my mostly vats sniper build: on pc you can press q for vats then usually(not always for some creatures) you can press w and it will target the head-no more finicky clicking on the box for the head- and then you can press q to select head and then e to shoot to completely eliminate mouse entirely.
I’ve always wanted a mod that let you play the game as a different creature entirely, like a Protectron, Glowing One, Deathclaw, Mr Handy… but not just swapping your character model out, I mean getting to actually be that creature and stuck with its abilities. This comes incredibly close!
7:25 can we just talk about how he falls apart when entering the workbench ?
Fisto has only 1 Strength because he has a gentle touch. He is made for pleasure after all.
Lennie's Farm Dream from of Mice & Men. Where he went after George had to put him down.
Glad to see more content from you, because you are really talented
Subscribed!
Thanks! ^^
This is a beautiful concept, a protection looking for his human
Great video, but holy crap that's a ton of work. Good on you for seeing it through. And also, you missed the opportunity to say that you gave Dr. Amari a piece of Kellog's mind!
WILLOW WILLOW WILLOW. I HAD A GREAT IDEA FOR A RUN. "Fallout 4 but you can only use items in your house". Need adhesive? Go to your garage and grab duct tape and spawn it in. Need a weapon? Go grab your pocket knife and spawn in a switchblade. Need food? Go to your kitchen and grab chili and spawn in "pork n' beans". It would be so fun to watch!
I am now fully caught up with your challenge runs. Looking forward to future videos.
Omg that fast walking at the beginning with the little protectron legs is soo adorable and funny you get a like just for that alone 😂
all the time lapses were cute!
Watching the protectron waddle in fast forward is my favorite part of this
Man the quality of these videos is through the roof, when I first came across your video I genuinely thought you had at least 500k subs
Awh thanks! Share it around, maybe I'll hit 10k by the end of the year if I'm lucky ^^
Yup, will do your video are most definitely worth sharing !
I also love the Protection in Fallout 4! But I personally love the Construction variant of the Protection, just cause they remind me of my father ^-^
This was hilarious. Ya got a new subscriber here. LOL All I could think of was, 'you should have pimped out your ride.' LMAO Great and fun run. Well done for not quitting.
I literally made a joke just like this in my fallout 4 only crafting run lmao!
@@WillowPlaysGames Did ya? Well, guess I should go over to that video and watch it then too. 🤣
Love watching ur fallout 4 videos dude!! (This one being my favorite bc of the premise!) Subbed for sure and can't wait to see more!
May come from the common reflection that servicemen would often dream of saving up to go home and buying a farm to settle on after the war or their deployment is up, but the deceased receive a small plot of land (the grave) automatically.
32:40 Here’s a tip hopefully helping everyone, you can shoot grenades and likely Mini-Nukes midair in VATS. That Mini-Nuke looked like a prime opportunity
This was a wild and interesting video! Great content!
Thanks!
I’m so glad I found this channel, ty
Ngl i lost it everytime your fastforwarded the walking he is determined to get there
wait, the mini nuke guy doesnt nuke you at point blank? what the fuck? every time i go there the guy yeets that mini nuke into my face from five feet away! i feel cheated.
Lol he used a machete when I showed up
@@WillowPlaysGames I feel double cheated.
Protectron model animation design are so good. I love it
Couldn't agree more!
Institute scientist:its because of your robotic pre-war "father" who is a measly protectron
Shaun:THAT MAKES NO SENSE!!
Bought the farm is a reference to airforce pilots crashing into farm fields and the farmers could sue the government. The pilot paid for the farm with his life.
this might be the most pain ive seen anyone endure in fallout 4, respect
it's only painful if you think about it!
22:43 Honestly here him say that my brain thought of Nick and Kellog sharing a body from that point on and there would just be moments in which Nick and Kellog start talking and bickering between each other and sometimes you can or have to get involved
How have I never heard of you before this is peak FO4 content lmao
Man if ED-E saw your tier list you would be ashes
12:52 that's just wholesome.
freaking love your FO4 runs :D
I'm glad you fo!
I love this great work. And about suggestions Maybe Far Harbor and Nuka World as a Assualtron?
ty for the suggestion!
i live protectron this is my favorite mob in fallout 4
Just realized your internet persona's face is the lexicon puzzle pedestal from skyrim. love the unique unexpected choice! Just found your content and enjoying it already.
It's actually not lmao. It was inspired by the lines and dots from a circuit board. I have had a bunch of people say it's that but I literally didn't think of that when making it!
@@WillowPlaysGames Ah alright! I do see it when you put it that way. Either way adoring the content! Keep it up lad!
Mad dedication, you just got a sub my dude
glad you enjoyed and are sticking around!
"they moved to a farm upstate" was a phrase used to explain to children why they'll never see their dead relatives again. So naturally you get "bought the farm"
“Buy the farm” is like how you would explain to a child how grandpa died without saying it. “Where is grandpa?” “He went to live on a farm/he bought a farm”
those one robots in fallout 76 almost always strike fear into me when i find them especially if they are a legendary enemy
