  • Running a load of laundry in my Maytag MVWP575GW (close to identical to MVWP576KW) commercial grade top load washer. I believe this unit compares favorably to the Speed Queen TC5, TR3 (tr3000wn), TR5 (tr5000wn), and TR7 (tr7000wn). This unit is similar to the Maytag Mat20 line of commercial washers along with the Whirlpool (Maytag parent) CAQ2795FQ. If I had bought this washer in 2017, I'm sure that I would have ended up with one of the following Speed Queen washers, the AWNE9RSN115TW01, AWN63RSN115TW01, or AWN43RSN115TW01. However, the 2018 Speed Queen models clearly are not the same as the older 2017 ones as multiple tests have shown that they just do not get clothes clean like the older ones or this unit. This washing machine has an agitator and many other old school washer features.

The Maytag technician arrive on time and was very good at his job. My top loader washer Model: MVWP575GW1 leaves my loads wet compared to my old Samsung. You can feel the additional dampness in the clothes as you remove them, So, I asked if he could increase the spin time to further get more water out of my load. He said that wasn’t an option because engineers programmed that into the control board which he had no power to change.
In order to spin more water out of my clothes I have been selecting a drain and spin cycle after my load finishes to get the extra spin cycle. Before the machine gives another drain and spin cycle it dumps water on the load for about 3 seconds which is counterproductive to getting extra water out of the load.
I asked if he could stop the machine from dumping the water back on a just-washed load. He said the three seconds of water was a safety feature the machine had to dump water on a child if they were in the tub which would make them get out. It is a top loader and no child can get in.
I have been putting a small container in the tub and catching the water before it gets in the clothes. During the extra spin cycle, I pull the drain hose out of the drain in the back of the machine and watch a great deal of water spin out of the load with the extra spin. These wet clothes cost me in dryer time and need to be addressed by Maytag engineers.

@@dregenius I wrote to the German CEO of Maytag with my concerns and got o reply. I replaced all the old copper in this old house with pex and 1/4 turn ball valves. I just turn those off before doing the extra drain and spin and there is no shot of water to scare kids out of the machine. I put a clothesline up in the backyard and use that instead of the dryer. I like the washer except for the lack of getting water out of the clothing.

This is a well made top loader Maytag commercial washer. I originally wanted new speed queen then realized new 2018 model was redesigned unit. After doing many hours of research I still wanted speed queen but the 2017 model. I couldn't find one locally. I took a chance on the Maytag and this machine is outstanding. It really wash my clothes really clean. I can really can tell the difference between my old Maytag Brovo XL HE top loader with no agitator. Love this washer. It comes with 5year parts and warranty. Check the newly available SQ TC5000WN. I just bought one and it's a true old-school independent agitator model, with the fin-type dasher, no screw. It is smooth running, though not particularly quiet. Normal cycle comes in less than a half-hour (extra rinse adds 10 minutes) and it gets my dirty work clothes clean, excellent lint and sand disposal compared to the LG it replaced. This Maytag appears to be a good machine, and about $230 less expensive compared to the TC5 Speed Queen. If the durability is there (funny, you don't see any 'lonely Maytag repairman' commercials any more), the Maytag may represent a better value. As you point out, this is a new machine, whereas the SQ is basically the coin laundry workhorse polished for the home market.

We got ours in 2018, and it has always quite noisy. I thought it was normal for a "commercial" grade, assuming that the commercial line had less noise insulation. Then it quit agitating this week. I discovered that the bolt holding the lower agitator had back out far enough that it was no longer engaged with the spline. Once I cleaned out accumulated lint and hair from underneath the lower agitator and secured it properly, it now makes less noise. One suggestion is to annually remove the upper and lower agitator and clear out lint/hair. It turns out it's not hard to do, but it is different from any other Maytag video I've seen.
    1) The fabric softener cup just pulls out. 2) The next part down (called a cam-agit) is trickier. Hold the upper agitator firmly, rotate the cam-agit clockwise until it clicks, then it will pull out. 3) Using a 7/16" socket and extension, remove the 7/16" bolt. A good firm counter-clockwise jerk should release the bolt so it will unscrew. Now the upper agitator can be removed. 4) Remove the last 7/16" bolt the same way, and the lower agitator will lift out. Now you can clean the lint.
I suspect that the lint built up and slowly allowed the bolt to back out until the agitator popped off the spline.

I picked up this same set used about 4 months ago for $500 to donate to the local animal shelter. It had been used by a family of 7 and was in really good shape. Today (2024-01027) the washer is sitting in my garage while I'm waiting for a basket drive hub and a set of vibration snubber straps to arrive. I'm impressed with the unit overall. The original drive hub is a known issue, and the shelter has a serious problem with overloading machine. They wash large loads of blankets and towels, so I'm not surprised the drive hub stripped out. What they really need is something like you'd find in a coin op, hospital, or prison laundry. Not sure why one of the snubber straps broke, but I'll replace all 4 since it's already opened up.
Meanwhile, my Whirlpool washer and dryer built in 1995 and that I bought used for $100 in 2004 continue to operate flawlessly, with the washer only needing a lid interlock switch in all that time.

Good review thank you. I am strongly thinking of getting these. I was considering the re-issue Speed Queen with normal agitation but the other reviewers on UA-cam seem to agree this is a better washer per price and performance. Though they all stated the Speed Queen would probably outlast this washer due to its old school build quality. The only feature I wish this had was a variable water level selector. I have that on my old Amana which is great for dialing in the right amount of water verse static choices.

I bought the same model in September 2018 to replace my Speed Queen which finally died after 15 years of good service. I would have bought another Speed Queen but the 2018 year had a new design that didn't work well. The next year they went back to the original design.... The only problem I have with the Maytag is extreme water hammer as it alternates hot and cold batches of water until it reaches the selected water level. I had to install 2 heavy duty water hammer arresters to solve the problem.... My original Speed Queen had a different design with both the hot and cold water filling at the same time. This gave minimal water hammer.

It has one major flaw I know of.
You can’t use truly hot water. It’s electronically limited to 90 degree fahrenheit hot water. It will add cold water to the load to keep the temperature at 90 even when you choose the hot cycle.
90 degree water is barely warm.
So, if you ever want to use truly hot water to sanitize dirty white towels, diapers etc., this is not the washer for you.

Awesome video. I am very much considering on buying this machine. I have a high efficiency machine that takes forever ad a day to wash a single load. On top of that, the clothes seem like they're not fully cleaned, so it has to rewashed. Some clothes come out with small dry spots because the machine only adds a small amount of water. You mentioned in your video that you disabled the latch to open the lid while it is filling up and washing. Can you make a video on how you did that? It helps that you can open the lid and throw in a piece of clothing that was left behind, rather than to place it in another load, or have the washer drain all the water because you want to stop it. Thanks in advance!!

We have a speed queen model# AWN432SP113TW04. Serial# starts with 1706..... That's 2017, June. I was not aware they changed the design in 2018 (for the worse apparently) so I guess we got lucky. No breakdowns yet. After hearing you talk about how the maytag agitator does a better job of sending clothes on the top of load down to the bottom than the speed queen does, I ran a wash cycle with lid open so I could see if my speed queen works as poorly as the video clip showed. What I found is that the speed queen does move clothes from top to the bottom. It doesn't do it as quickly as your commercial maytag does though. I'd say the maytag moves those clothes down a minimum of 3 times faster than my S.Q.
It cleans our clothes just fine though, no complaints here in that regard.
The spin cycle doesn't get quite as much water out of clothes as some of the newer (cheaper) machines do though. Would be nice if the spin rpm were just a tad faster.

Key points about the washer not mentioned:
    -1/2hp motor
-dual-action agitator vs the one-piece agitator on the non-commercial units.
    -more aggressive agitation.
    - 7-rib drive belt.
-door is left unlocked during water filling to allow additional clothes to be added, etc. Non-commercial washers lock the door as soon as start is pressed.
As far as it lasting longer, I'm not so sure that's the case. The main attraction to this unit is it's the only one close to being like the top-load agitator washers from 30+ years ago.

A commercial washer will last longer in a residential setting than a residential washer in the same setting. The parts are much more robust in this washer vs. a comparable residential unit. I’m not sure many people go out and buy a washer because of how many ribs the belt has. I’m also not sure if “aggressive” is the right word for the improved agitation. This unit doesn’t damage clothes.

Hi Chris Love your videos. Hope I am not asking questions only a mfg would be able to know. I checked all the comments & dont see these questions.
I have the Maytag Model MVWP575G1. My only concern I wish It could fill with more water, and or that it came with a bigger tub than 3.5 cu. feet, like maybe 4.5 cu. feet.. What is the max load of clothes per pound you should put in as I have a scale, I dont want to ever overload the machine. Is there a hack for getting it to fill with more water, and or what happens if I were to add more water to it as it was filling at the start of the cycle ?? Lastly based on your experience & knowledge is there a bigger commercial washer you recommend..... Please please respond asap. Thank you

Why? Because some plumber told you not to? Shark bite fittings put plumbers out of business, that’s the only reason why they “leak”. Interesting that crimp fitting are okay though since they still have rubber gaskets.
In any case, I was renting this house, so the plumbing choices weren’t mine.

My washer is still currently down as the repairman has been back 4 times and we are still waiting on a resolution. I have to say, when it worked, it was amazing. Very powerful and actually fills completely and finishes quickly. Washes very well. But, alas, we are now going into week 5 of no washer and going to the laundry mat daily for our three loads a day. You do the math. We are out over $120 thus far for laundry expenses and Maytag refuses to reimburse us for loss of use. Final outcome with this was after the 6th visit from the repairman, he was about to order a motor after changing out every other part. I was able to contact Maytag/Whirlpool and after expressing my lack of confidence in the machine, and escalating it twice through two higher ups, they finally replaced it with a new one. I was also able to get a $75 gift card which puts just a dent in my laundry expense and inconvenience of having to be here for 6 trips and laundromat trips. Hi and thanks for your video review. It was very helpful. We have been struggling with now our 3rd set of GE washer and dryer in the last almost 4 years and probably 15 service visits. We got the GE set bc it was a top loader, filled all the way and had choice of fill and was the only machine not HE. Also had a nice light lid for me to lift as the others were like lifting a brick. Right now, we have just had the same parts break as on the last 2 replacements and we are done. The washer cannot spin without pulverizing itself and jumping around. The dryer already is loose in the drum and banging itself. Sounds like someone is playing basketball at times. As we live on a second floor and are so tired of repairs, we were looking for something that was tougher and built well but also not with the loud banging we have. This one looked good but there are a couple things I'm not sure about. First, you mentioned it was painted and not porcelain. I imagine all machines these days are painted and not porcelain? Does the paint ever get an odor when the dryer gets hot? Does it have the texture like a painted wall or is it smooth like other machines? I saw in another video that the dashboard areas are covered in a thick plastic wrap. Does that ever get an odor or get tacky? Last, we have a laundry closet which is quite nice by our front door. It does have doors but our place is smallish. How loud would you say it gets? I know you said yours is in the garage and is quiet bc of that but we have about 1300 sq feet. We are not right on top of the washer and dryer but it is in our living space. Is it super loud or like the old fashioned machines...average loud? I am sad bc I love the look of our GE's but they are the cheapest built set I have ever seen. Like a plastic toy. At this point, with 3 of the GE's defective the same way, and many reports of it online as well, it is time to give up and move on. We are hoping these might work. Thanks for your time and feedback.

GE isn't made by GE anymore. It's just a name brand produced by an Asian country. Forget GE and your life will be much better.
It does seems that all non-commercial machines are now painted, but there are certainly different levels of quality as there are with cars.
      Answers to your questions:
-No odor from either unit regardless of setting.
-smooth like other machines with a more matte finish on the console, but no tackiness.
-average loudness, it does have some sound treatment under the cover.
If you buy this set and they do run out of balance we'll need to have a discussion about how you're loading your laundry. I have a two year updated review on this same set if you haven't seen it already.

As far as washing the clothes, it does a great job but if you are putting this washer anywhere near a living space, you may want to consider something else. It is by far the loudest washing machine we have ever heard. I can hear it all over my house and if I put it in the delicate mode, I can hear it moaning and groaning all the way up on the second floor, with the door closed. I have replaced parts over the years but I am kind of at a threshold... transmission and/or braking system has failed. I am very impressed with this set and may fall on the sword real soon. So glad to see Maytag putting out a fabulous product again. Like many others have said, I probably would have bought the Queens before they destroyed everything that made them great. IMA this is the ONLY top load to even consider that's on the market today. One question... I use the hot wash a lot... I know that it blends cold in to temper even a hot load, do u find that the water isn't real that hot?? Also wonder if i should wait a bit to see if they are going to come out with a more premium model even tho these bad boys will give me everything that I really need. I would LOVE it if you could post a fill with hot water... I also realize the results would be effected based on how hot you have your water heater set. Keep up the good work! Wendell

It is almost 30% more expensive than this Maytag, and I might have bought the Maytag if I had been aware of this model before I bought the SQ, but whatever your choice, stay away from the TR series Speed Queen, and any Maytag model except for this exact model. I saw a lot of Maytags in the big box store touting "COMMERCIAL TECHNOLOGY", but they are not the same.

I have this Maytag Commercial Technology washer. On the HOT water setting I get ALMOST Hot Tap temps. It will SLIGHTLY dumb-down the HOT with a spray or so of cold. But the hot water in my machine averages about 140°f. Very Hot

I am still on the fence on this washer or a LG > Turbo Wash front Loader which has had great reviews as well. I am more partial to top loaders being I have used and owned one for over 30 years. Curious on your thoughts of the top suspension vs the bottom suspensions on Speed Queens. They seem very ridged and don't flop around like top suspensions. I am not sure what the benefit is from hanging the basket that way or not. Thoughts?

I don’t have experience with the top load Speed Queens, but their suspension system seems to be superior. I actually just purchased a Speed Queen front loader and it has the best suspension of all. The Maytag is a little touchy in comparison. My latest review video about the Speed Queen does a little bit of a comparison between that washer and my Maytag. The SQ front load washer literally can’t go out of balance, which is very nice.

@@chrisw.3077 Thank you Chris for the quick reply! I think if I was going new top I would go with the Maytag. i just watched a video on the "Commercial GE" and was not impressed at all. It seemed more of a marketing ploy to me. The wash cycle was not impressive at all. On another note if you had to choose between your two washing machines is there one you would most definitely keep over the other? Does one clean better?

@@garykarczewski6678 The GE doesn't excite me at all. GE sadly doesn't even make their own appliances anymore, they sold the name, so that automatically DQs it for me.
I think both machines have their uses. If I really want to get something clean, I think it's the Maytag. There's no substituting actually soaking something in soapy water. It is nice though to never worry about a load going out of balance with the Speed Queen. The drum just slows down if it senses instability and can't adjust for some reason. I'll have them both connected soon and I'll try to do some kind of a scientific comparison. Towels I supposedly cleaned in the Speed Queen smell weird, but I might've left them inside for too long.

@@chrisw.3077 Thanks Chris. I probably go with the Maytag. I am happy with the outcome of top loaders if loaded correctly with the correct water level, detergent amounts and agitation cycle they work great.

I have to take back my original comment below. It turns out it does seem to be able to sense off balance situations after all. My actuator was bad and seemed to prevent the washer from rebalancing the load. After replacing the actuator 2 weeks ago, it hasn't gone off balance once.
      Original comment:
Ours would go off balance quite easily. Unfortunately, if it bangs around too much, the machine just keeps going and not stopping. That is one feature I wished it had, to give you a chance to rebalance the load.

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for doing this video. I am seriously considering this model to replace my 32-year-old Kenmore (made by Whirlpool) that just went kapoot forever, after almost no major problems. Anyhow, the only thing that keeps me from deciding on this one for sure is the lid lock. i need for the washer to fill with water and also agitate with the lid open. Would you do a video on how to bypass the lid lock switch on this model?

    • @theone4042

Lid lock is ONLY activated on high speed spin. Basically NO LIDLOCK.

Thanks for the review. I just picked up this washer and on first wash it doesn't seem to sounds like yours. It seems to make a duck quacking noise when it starts to wash/agitate. Is there a break in period for washers or something because I don't recall there is. I also say your other video about stainless steel hoses and the restrictor in them. I too got upgraded stainless hoses and it doesn't fill to the top, I forgot about the Maytag rubber hoses that came with the machine and the delivery guys took them as they unboxed it outside the house. Thoughts? Replace to regular hoses and run a load through or just call and get an exchange?

    • @chrisw.3077
      @chrisw.3077  4 роки тому +3

I would try the rubber hoses. If you’re in CA, the hoses you bought probably have restrictors in them and the washer just doesn’t work correctly. If you’re still having an issue after that, then call Maytag.

The cheaper Amana version of this will fill completely with water except on Normal cycle when set to auto fill. I have the Amana model# NTW4516FW.
It operates similar to this but you have a choice of auto fill or deep water wash. It also uses a 2 piece dual action agitator like this . So far for me it has been a very good washer and dryer set.
A good cheaper alternative to the Maytag and Speed Queen washers and in fact has the same drive system as the Maytag but without the upgraded parts the Maytag uses.

@@chrisw.3077 Thank you I found the video I just wasn’t sure because I have seen numerous amounts of photos of these sets that had the washer set higher than the dryer, they even advertised it in that way, anyways very good purchase and will continue watching onwards of anything more recent. The agitator in this machine is identical to the previous Kenmore direct drives from 2005ish to the end of their series, this has a much larger base however I was shocked to see Whirlpool use this agitator again and even as a refresh, and the wider base and lower fins for these new Maytags have to be much larger due to how much more capacity there now is within the tub compared to the much smaller direct drive model it was once used for.
