So good to share these memories with others. I wasn't in Boston but I was inside the heart/runway for the Tacoma Washington (near Seattle) performance during that tour. One of the finest nights of my life and a wonderful way to celebrate my best friend's birthday. I send my best to you.
In 2001 my favorite band was U2 and still is! When I saw that they were coming to my city I could not wait. After work, I headed over to the Bradley Center in Milwaukee WI which was a couple blocks away to find scalpers in the street 2 hours before the show and got a GA ticket for $15!!! Walked in and I hit the jackpot because I was front and center of that heart-shaped catwalk stage! To see the Edge and Bono a few feet from me was a night I will never forget. It was a religious experience! I got the 2001 Boston Live DVD when it was released and is still one of my favorite live performances caught on film. 20 cameras under director Hamish Hamilton who did a great job capturing the band at their best!
Fans or not of U2, you gotta recognize this band makes the best live shows ever. 👌🏼 I still haven't seen something as awesome as their ZOO TV tour. That was mind blowing.
@@haroldlipschitz9301 I've been in the PopMart, and it was quite impressive, but for me it wasn't even close to ZooTV, that was more than a music concert. Best show in history, IMO.
@@Leprosita80 I was fortunate to see the PopMart tour on the European leg. It was fantastic. A different atmosphere than ZooTV but the PopMart staging experience was WAY ahead of its time. ZooTV was just a 100% spectacle that was one of a kind
@@haroldlipschitz9301 yeah I saw the PopMart tour too, specifically the Death Valley show (Clemson University stadium in South Carolina) with Rage Against the Machine opening for them! And it was one of the best live shows I've seen aside from Prince and Webb Wilder. I put it above even Heart and I loved them live too.
Edge is amazing cause in the realm of rock guitarists, he’s not playing something super difficult but he’s in control of all the pedals and effects and knows how to play off everything and when to accentuate, when to raise the levels, when to ease off. He melds everything like a dj of fx.
People criticize U2 as being old has-beens, but usually folk who have never seen them live. U2 are and always have been a fantastic live act, with a unique sound. I first saw them live in 1984 and followed them through to the early 2000s. Not seen them in recent years but still a top live band. They make genuine anthems and epics.
It's done deliberately to prevent all those that know nothing from getting into the band U2 don't want pop concert tourists at their shows, so they make bland albums with many dumbed down tracks deliberately. They'll sell so the record company doesn't care. But I actually feel sorry for people that listened to this song on the album and haven't seen it performed live and thought it was just more monotonous U2 crap, and the same can be said of much of U2's entire catalogue. Listening to them live, there is a slight similarity to the recorded version , just enough so that you actually know what song you are listening to, but that's about as close as a live version of a U2 song gets to the recorded version
I’ve seen them live six times. It’s always different but there’s always magic in the air. They can really transport you with their music and Bono’s really good at connecting with the audience. They also always have crazy stage sets that help turn a stadium or arena into an interactive art exhibit.
The one from Slane Castle is better, the end of that song when Bono do his "Matador" on Edge, and scratching his guitar like a cat and then the guitar echoing in the end there, can remove the paint from the wall! Check that video out. As good as the Elevation tour versions of the ' End of the world ' ,I think i prefer the Zoo tv versions better, and I don't mean Sydney particularly, though its a good one too
I saw this tour at the Tacoma Dome. I’ve only seen U2 three times, but there is absolutely nothing like a U2 concert! It’s an unbelievable experience❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
We U2 fans love their gigs. Not just for new material... It's the performances of their catalogue of songs. Each one a virtual reimagining. Like the wondrous intro to this performance. Finished off with the 'fly' splattered against the screen ☺️
Bono had a near death incident a few years ago. After, while he was recovering, his doctor mentioned he was surprised at his vitals. Apparently their tests showed he had something like 130% lung capacity of a normal dude his size! He was born to sing for us.
Longest time never understood why bono stopped on the wall like that, then it dawned on me Fly on the Wall 😂😂😂😂😂 Genius lol so many songs to Love The Fly for sure I play drums so this song is a lot of fun too play too.
U2 released an “All that you can’t leave behind” for some 30th anniversary edition . It has all kinds of remixes etc. However this concert from the Fleet Centre in Bonson is on it in FULL. Get this version of the album Use your best headphones, you will ACTUALLY think you are at the concert. The sound mixing was so incredible. Kind Regards Andrew. Ps if you want a truly unbelievable experience of this concert. Find the DVD somewhere, get the best cinema home surround system you have, crank it up loud. I swear on my life, because I had it. You will think you are there.
A esta banda no hay con que darle en vivo ! Vi decenas de conciertos pero estos tipos son realmente impresionantes , recuerdo que fui con una remera de los Stones pero tuve la necesidad de comprar una de U2 y ponerla por encima
It's not underrated... On the contrary it Is considered One of the most important album of all time and the third masterpiece of U2 ( the First Is 'The unforgettable Fire' 1984 and the second Is 'the Joshua tree' 1987...)
Good to see you react to The Fly, I like this reworking of the song but prefer the Zoo TV Tour version. This was the first single from Achtung Baby which was a huge departure from their previous sound and image. In the 80's the band was viewed as po-faced earnest musicians which some in the media translated as standoffish and arrogant. Bono's reaction to this was to create the character of The Fly who was an egotistical rock star and they revelled in the rock star lifestyle. I'm sure Bono referred to themselves as "four jerks in a limo" to make fun of the absurdity of their big rock band position. The band said that Achtung Baby was the "sound of four men chopping down The Joshua Tree" which is their most successful album. The new sound and image alienated some of their fans but the band felt they needed to explore something new as they would probably call it a day if they kept down the same path.
Sorry to reply your comment but it is the best way to describe it: "This is the best live performance of The Fly. Usually The Edge shares the vocals in the chorus, but this version is way much better than any other."
My very first concert was from this tour, in Köln though. Amazing! And this song sure was one of the highlights! And even when they are just humans, it did feel kinda special seeing Bono just a few meters in front of you. Pure charisma! Have seen them several more times since, but at some point the magic was gone, Bono with his messiah complex has just gotten annoying. But glad I've still seen the good version of him.
It's funny that others said the."messiah complex " thing regarding him on the tour you.loved him in Why??? He's always had it HOWEVER .......I do agree that during the last few tours he's gotten more politically overt, to the point of being annoying at times
@@jamesdavison2927 you might be right, and it being my very first ever live concert (which obviously was a pretty overwhelming experience) might have skewed my perception. It didn't bother me at the time, and their show still rocked, while at later concerts I sometimes got the feeling Bono was talking more than he was singing....
