When they were losing and losing, Billy Beane was being vilified, ostracized, mocked, etc. When they kept winning and winning, Art Howe (who HATED the system Beane implemented) was getting all the praise from announcers......

not true. Art Howe was portrayed unfairly and if you see some of the clips he actually approves of what happens. Moneyball just made Art a villain because of dramatic purposes, but Art did like Billy's system. He did get too much credit for it though

Art Howe was fine with the idea of moneyball. He had conflict with Beane, because Beane traded away pretty much everybody and only gave him a one-year deal. The movie tries to create additional story by exasperating the tension between Howe and Beane.
I don't care if Cleaveland topped Oakland. This streak was more emotional. It's incredible how they celebrate each victory

I like how not many fans in the seats in the beginning then packed house at the end. What a run for those misfit toys.
magical run for sure i watched most of them on TV but they weren't all misfit toys they had three 20-game winners, a great defensive infield and 3 all-stars in Zito, Chavez and Tejada who were all A's system guys not free agent castaways.

That walk off homer will always give me chills. One of the best scenes in movie history and one of the best moments in baseball history.
Moneyball made it seem as if this team was made up of part-time appliance salesmen and amputees. These A's actually had a very good roster.

Joey Jones well they were just young. Most were coming up through the system, unproven, and had just lost 3 of their best players. They became good through this team. Much the same with the oakland teams since that point. They have a good young team from the farm system, maybe a few acquisitions here and there, and every few years can do something special.

Im an Angels fan, so I obviously remember this Oakland team well. The Moneyball movie made it seem like Beane grabbed hatteberg and Justice, and boom, they were as good as the yankees.
Zero mention about Tejada, MVP candidate. Or Chavez. Dye, etc etc.
MOST important....not once is the big 3 mentioned. No offense to the oak offense, but the big 3 is what made the As back then. Not to mention Lilly.

The whole point wasn't that the A's were making a team out of scrubs, it's that they were making a team out of underrated or unknown talented players who the rest of baseball thought as scrubs. Yeah, the scene at the start of spring training showing people making routine errors or pitchers throwing wildly looked like they sucked, but theres another where they're talking about Bradford and Peter says "This guy should be getting 3 Mil a year, we can get him for 200,000."
A streak so big, they used the stadium's FOOTBALL capacity for that 20th game.

The Oakland Coliseum is the only multi-sport field in baseball. That's why the A's can't get beyond occasional playoff appearances. The fight over the stadium for the A's is a huge issue here in the Bay Area and the main reason the A's can't hold onto their talent very long.
Those last 3 victories were so exciting. Three walkoffs in a row. And winning the 20th after blowing an 11 run lead. I always rewatch Moneyball to get pumped for baseball season. Have had to watch it twice this year though. Thankful we will actually get some baseball.
Zito's curve was insane. I miss finesse pitchers like him.
This team was stacked. Dye, Durham, Chavez, Tejada, Zito, Mulder, Hudson, and Byrnes were all very good to great players.

Matt Dumas Moneyball only pointed them out for the emotional aspect of the story. The true heart and soul of this team came from the above mentioned players, especially their pitching
just a joke calm down. lol. Just by watching the clips you can see that Tejada and Chavez did much of the grunt work, they were also higher paid for their talents. Only a couple players like Justice, pitchers, etc made more than them. I think tejada was like 4 million, chavez 3, and justice and one of the pitchers 7 million.
@@cameronhasko8870 those characters served a purpose… they were the replacements for the all star caliber players that the A’s had to give up the year prior to free agency due to budget constraints. The whole point of the movie is that they used sabermetrics to find these specific players to fill the gaps offensively. If they had just called up nobodies without a care, the team would’ve performed worse. Instead they were able to get the same average OBP between the players they lost with the players that replaced them. No one was acting like those players were the stars of the team because the point was also that they didn’t need to be. They just needed to… get on base lol. They beat the system in a baseball world where money buys wins by taking all the talent.
As a lifelong A’s fan watching them win these games was awesome. I remember Tejada walking off two straight games (wins 18 & 19). I still get chills watching this. Then I remember the sinking feeling of the Royals rallying only to have Hatty walk it off in the 10th. Never again will this happen in my life time. So amazing!

Im an Angel fan. This Oak run was impressive as hell. Crazy how the Angels kept pace with them. Long time ago so a lot of people have probably forgotten, but the AL West that year was insane. Seattle (Ichiro years) won 93 and didnt make the playoffs....3rd place team that won 93 games...
Nobody gave the Angels a chance in October. I always felt the last 2 months of the regular season forged them. Those series against the As were as tight as any other team was going to be. The 2 series against Oakland in September in particular (with a nice Speez walkoff on Sept 12) were awesome to watch.
Miss those days. The Angels and As were these two great teams that werent NY or Boston, so nobody paid them attention...even though both gave NY and Boston problems every times.
Sad nobody talks about the Angels amazing run. They were 40 games back the previous year. Kept Pace with the A's. Won 99 games and if course the World Series. Two amazing stories out of the AL West

Man I was in my prime during this streak. Must have caught about 2-3 of these games at the coliseum. I remember every single day of that streak just feeling like a kid in a candy store. Every day was A’s all day. I and my family were consumed by it.
Many good times, and cherished memories with friends and family, at the Oakland Coliseum! Going to miss it.

Unfortunately i cannot come to see the games live because i am european but i watch online and wear A´s caps as often i can. And, the september 4th is my birthday.

I became a fan in 1989, when I was about 7. My Dad was a Giants fan and my brother was an A's fan and that year it was the Battle of the Bay Bridge Series. That World Series between the A's and Giants is famous because our Loma Prieta Earthquake interrupted the game. Another famous sports moment, albeit a sad one. Ever since then, though, I have been an A's fan. When they started building the team up again after Giambi left for the Yankees and a few other key players left, I saw these young men come together and bring magic back, especially after 9/11, when we, as a nation, were still very raw and unnerved by what had happened the year prior. This streak gave us something happy to think about. It came a time when we needed it most.

I was a big Angels fan back in these days. Man I use to hate our division with the Mariners, Rangers, but I hated when the Athletics came in to town or we went up to Oakland they had a really well set up team it was a tough team to win.

Everybody forgets Cory Lidle. He pitched 30 1/3 innings during that 20 game stretch and only gave up 1 earned run. He was really good.

I’ve been an A’s fan for a long time, back to the bash brother days when I was a kid. It’s sad the A’s teams have always collapsed in the playoffs over the last 20+ years. Lots of great regular seasons. I think it’s probably due mostly to the fact that moneyball led to the team having less talent than a lot of other teams. Less talent and the moneyball system could win a lot of regular season games against bad teams and 4th and 5th starters. But going up against great talent in 5 game series where they were facing ace pitchers and loaded lineups just about every game, they couldn’t compete.
Even after I have been watching the movie, I still don't know the rules. 🤷

They incorrectly depicted Art Howe in “Moneyball” the same way Norte Dame coach Dan Devine was in “Rudy”. In neither instance were either of them antagonists in real life. Devine was all for Rudy Ruettiger dressing out and playing in the final game of his senior year, in much the same way Howe was actually open-minded to Billy Beane’s formation of the team using the Moneyball system.

I remember that year. I traveled outside the U.S. The A's were on an 8 winning streak. Later,still outside the U.S. I camed up Baseball on t.v in that country,A's were on an 17th streak win., I couldn't wait to get back home.
