I did work on Buddy Hackett's driveway, patio and water-retaining channels at his Malibu house and he was a very decent man to work for. There wasn't a single molecule of comedy involved, just pure honest business. I had to dig up his address signage so the concrete tuck could stop blocking morning traffic trying to go to work, and he didn't get that upset when he discovered that I had done so. I got to meet and speak to the real Buddy Hackett. The man I met those few days was one I could have easily called a decent friend, if life had allowed that sweet blessing.

Buddy Hackett was a comedic genius. Johnny loved having him on.
They were great for 4 & 5 decades.(!)

Buddy once was asked by Carson if religious (Christian and Jewish) jokes were disrespectful. Hackett replied a line I think he said mad was from scripture. “He who puts the scripture to jest is twice blessed. Saw that back then, and never since. I liked it.

roy was in decline in entertainment after a forty year run of success, but he was a great singer/entertainer til he was near death. Hackett was always kinda sappy but Roy could have sang and played a guitar and the crowd would be in awe. He was always a gentleman as on this show.

It takes a lot of alcohol to laugh at Buddy Hackett jokes.

Why would anyone need alcohol to make Buddy Hackett funny?

What these people know about horses wouldn't hurt a child. Horses startle easily because they're prey animals, not because their eyes are weird.

There is something about 70’s television. Seemed so laidback and casual. The era where “cancel culture” wasn’t even a thing.

I'm just amazed Roy was able to fake happy while he was sitting next to a Jewish person. I think he'd have a heart attack if buddy was black.

Wow, that is weird. I thought Rogers had already been on and came out to be there with Hackett. But I guess he hadn’t been out yet, as Hackett said he was talking to him in th r green room. I hope it’s not true about him being a jerk. What purpose would it serve him as an entertainer? And I really liked him. Like when he was in “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”. He was grinding it in about Carson’s divorces. And he played up Rogers long marriage. I can’t figure it.

@@5400bowen Hacket was generally very funny. However in this appearance it just isn;t working and Roy was being a very good sport about it all.
