That's actually a problem for the Deagle. The colt and the glock has the opening in the sides. So the empty round will fly to the side. The Deagle has the opening right above making it prone to hit your eye.

Fact that the 500 had a Lil longer barrel must make quite a difference.
It definitely helps for sure but even if it was the same length the bullet just has more velocity in the 500
both are impractical as a carry weapon, I'd go with the 500 magnum just in the hopes i could scare my way out of a gun fight before it happened

Both of them are big dudes too. I think Scott is a little bigger but to demo ranch’s credit he did shoot the 500 magnum and that 45-70 revolver at the same time.. but ya Scott handles them much better

A longer barrel does make a huge difference
After tax season I was faced with such a dilemma between the two. I chose the desert eagle. Not for “practicality” or anything. It just seems cooler! I don’t regret my purchase.
Considering the 500 had a longer barrel, the DE did pretty darn good.
I mean the ballistics don’t lie for anyone who wants to look...

!! The reason you couldn't find hardcast lead ammo in .50ae is because they aren't manufactured, as It's highly recommended to NOT fire cast lead bullets through it, due to lead fouling of the gas operated recoil system!!

I am thinking you should use a 5-inch barrel on the 500 mag. to equalize the comparison.
probably should have crono,d the test to see how much the muzzle velocity affects it.

The 500 Mag was in a Longer Barrel so that helps ballistics punch through the steel. Also depending on the ammo. If the ammo was hotter than the ammo for the .50 AE then naturally it will pack a harder punch. But remember the .50 AE was desogned to penetrate engine blocks.
The reason you can’t find cast for the 50AE is because you are not supposed to shoot cast lead in the DE. The lead will plug up the gas port and then has to be returned to magnum research to get cleaned.
My dad has a 50AE and he has fired alot of lead Hardcasts out of it and the Hardcasts never did anything to it.
Keep in mind the magnum he's using has a longer barrel. That makes a difference.

Well there both 50 cal pistols one comes with stronger and longer casing for a bullet. Only one bullet holds way more grain and it’s pretty obvious the 500 magnum is stronger and faster
But if you fired the .50AE out of carbine length barrel, it would also have more energy. The 500 is absolutely stronger without a doubt, but the longer barrel does is it an even bigger margin.

I'd choose the desert Egale 50.cal as my 1st choice as a main gun. The s&w 500 as a more aggressive backup weapon for serious takedowns...if the situation called for it. ( a bit long in the barrel to holster. )
.50 Caliber Handcannons are always epic.
No need to compare these two.
You can take both double Deagles at tier 5 and double 500 Magnums with a tier 2 Medic Pistol. Best Gunslinger loadout.
Barrel on the s&w500 is a lot longer so it would always do better even if they had the same ammo.
The thing about my .50 AE is that it’s such a novelty gun. It’s been made famous from movies such as Snatch, etc. Anybody with basic pistol knowledge can shoot it. My 110lb wife can, The 500 SW is a different monster. Not everyone can shoot it. The Desert Eagle is a clear winner for me. If I were hunting big game, definitely the 500 S&W.

Some good one handed shooting.
One time I was staring down a Kodiak brown bear at 50 yards. I was hunting deer. Had a 7mm mag. What was going through my head was that I would only get one shot if he charged and I never felt smaller in my life. After that hunt my wife bought me a S&W 500 with a 3.5 barrel. After that I was hunting deer with my mini 14 and packing my cannon in my RF pocket.
The Kodiak bear could’ve been 200 yards away from me and I would’ve passed out in fear.They are huge

@@orfeoonditi5870 People hunt deer for food in the country, but keep going to the supermarket though and stay desensitized to the reality of hunting and killing animals for survival. Out in the woods where I live we are not the apex predator anymore, especially when it comes to large bears and grizzlies. These pistols are the equalizer that will save your life during a bear attack. Maybe you can try to hug it out with an angry large bear if you want. I'll peronally carry a large caliber pistol here in Idaho and Wyoming just to be safe when I'm in the woods.

Of course...more powder and a longer barrel = more FPS & energy with similar grain projectiles. But, very cool to watch the comparison anyway. Great video! I actually have both guns. A DE50 Mark XIX in Brushed Chrome, and the 8-3/8" .500 S&W Model 163500. Either is a great choice. The Smith is better for smaller handed people, but you'd better have good muzzle control and strength to fire either.
I rather have both of them the 50ae has a cool factor to it the Smith & Wesson 500 is a Great hunting handgun
i would choose desert eagle 50AE
The S&W had a heavier grain bullet and by the looks a larger charge and will always do more damage. The Desert Eagle .50 with a lighter grain and less charge was doing almost as much damage and penetration as the S&W.
I am so happy I am not the only one that noticed those details.... I am by no means a fire arm expert, swords, axes, bows etc are my specialty.... But I was pretty sure 350 grain is more powerful than 300.
50 AE...It's an auto, easier to conceal, more rounds obviously and it's Deadpool's favorite hand cannon!
.500 S&W magnum is more powerful than most full power rifle rounds, though.

Yup, he's definitely tough. I've shot the 500 mag more than a few times... 2 handed. Still rough on the wrists. We had to hold a pillow on a stick for my one buddy who couldn't handle the recoil
This guy is awesome... I own a 500 Mag and it's not an easy one to shoot one handed. All my friends are intimidated by just the sight of it... Not many will shoot it, scared of the recoil... It is cool to take it to a shooting range and pull it out while everyone else is shooting 9mm and .40 cals mainly... It will most definitely start a curiosity conversation.. At one time, it was considered the biggest and baddest handgun on the planet! Go ahead, make my day!

For me, it all depends on what you are going to be shooting. I would personally opt for the Desert Eagle 50 AE because it is easier to shoot and deal with the recoil than the S&W 500 Mag. If I found that I needed more firepower than the 50 AE, I would opt for a rifle cartridge, such as a 30-30, 45-70, or a .308. As it is, the 50 AE might be too much for me to shoot, but with the weight of the gun and the slide action absorbing part of the recoil, I might be able to shoot it.
When it comes to self-defense against humans, this is how I see it using my favorite ammo:
High-end: .45 LC and ACP, .44 special, 10mm
Medium: S&W .40, 9mm (bullet placement is important)
Low-end: .380 ACP (bullet placement is very important)
In choosing a caliber for self-defense, we should avoid ammo that will penetrate the subject and damage property or harm others who might be standing behind them. In addition, all that excess energy after penetration is completely wasted, so it becomes pointless. As such, calibers such as .44 Mag, 50 AE, and S&W 500 Mag are too powerful for human targets at close range.
I agree, but i wouldn't put 45 acp in the same category as 44 mag when it has 1/6 as much muzzle energy
@@fortnite.burger I was putting the .45 in the same category as a .44 special, which is equivalent to a .45 LC or ACP. The beauty of a .44 mag is that you can use .44 specials or .44 mag rounds in the same gun. Very convenient.

If you're strong enough to hold a S&W .44 mag steady and shoot it, then the 1894 is the perfect rifle to complete the handgun, I mean, you can take down a bear with a .44 mag. If we were hunting a T-Rex, we'd need to move up to the S&W .500 with an AK-47 (7.62x39) semi-auto with a 30 round magazine -- my favorite gun, by the way.

Desert Eagle should've had the 10 inch barrel to compensate barrel length difference. That was the 8.38 inch barrel S&W 500? Eagle would've penetrated the steel with the 10 inch barrel.
I wish Magnum Research would make a semi-auto that shoots a S&W 500 round.

Damm I miss my 500 magnum with a the inch barrel . First purchase I made when I returned from deployment along with a colt AR 15. I had to pawn it when my daughter was born and never got it back. I loved the looks I would get at the range when I fired that thing. Made my ex wife cry the first time she saw me fire it. 🙂Good times..
If you're not sure which firearm to go with, I say just dual wield both.

Because the SW 500 is longer, the energy it gains is bigger, so clear it hits stronger. My choice is the DE .44 - more than enough to blow everything away 😁
