It doesn't get much better than this. Soul and funk from 1970 to 1975. Raw and soulful.
An absolute gem for soul lovers! This is one of the best live performances I’ve seen. She does more than sing the recorded version. People are playing real instruments along with her singing. It’s almost as if people made the music back then 😉
The most overlooked soul singer of all time. She is incredible.
One of the best performances of I Can't Stand the Rain.Simple and Soulful.
Before there was Mr. T of "The "A" Team", Ann sang "I Pity The Fool" in 1971!!
Happy to hear that Ann and husband Don are doing well. An has had health problems (stroke 2012) Ann should’ve been a household name like Aretha. Her voice and delivery is and was amazing. Her husband Don Bryant is a heck of a songwriter as well!
I still have this 45. 70s Soul at its finest. That singing, that B3, those horns! DAAAYUMMM!!😎✌✊
Great song. Thank you Ann Peebles. 👏🏻👏🏻
Great song from one of the most underrated singers of that era. She had another single, " You Keep Me Hanging On"
that was equally great.
You might want to check out “Come To Mama”, which, unfortunately, was covered by Bob Seeger as Come To Papa (a pathetic recording, imo). Also, “99 Pounds” is fun. She’s one fantastic soul singer 😍
Wow...wonderful performance by Ann and that terrific band.
I'm sixteen again, for a few minutes. What a voice!
Oh Lord yes. Thank you. 🖖
Sooo damn good
I LOVE this song! What a cool performance Ann has such a wonderful voice - and the horns arrangement - superb !
It’s been raining here practically every day for the last month, I can relate.
Hi Kitty. Are car washes very popular in the Pacific NW?
All that rain, I wonder.
@@Royale_with_Cheeze
Hi! Yes car washes are very common in the Tulsa, OK area where I reside, been getting tons of rain in “green country” which is usual but it’s coming later this year. The Equality & Cowboy State and the first to grant women the right to vote with the 19th amendment way back in 1920, will always be my “home on the high plains desert range.”
@@KittyGrizGriz
Why do I think you're from the Pacific Northwest (Oregon or Washington)?
@@KittyGrizGriz
I was curious about the women's right to vote, thinking that the 19th Amdt. would be the same across the land, and came across this:
*In 1890, Wyoming is the 44th state admitted to the Union and becomes the first state to allow women the right to vote. Many government officials felt that Native Americans should be assimilated into America's mainstream culture before they became enfranchised.*
@@Royale_with_Cheeze
I don’t quite know? Where are you from, if you don’t mind me asking?
Eruption did a great cover of this song....but Ann's will always be my favorite!
I just love this tune! Wonderful performance ❤❤❤
looks like producer Willie Mitchell back on the right side playing keyboard
He appears to be playing electric percussion.
What a voice and delivery.
Outstanding Performance!!!
Lead Vocals and all Musicians were right on point. Love the groove and the horns.
Checkout the Clear Blue Ludwig Drum Kit……Wish I had a kit like that!!!
Just amazing ❤
Yeah, that works! Superb!
I grew up listening to the Lowel George version. This is good!
Love this upload. The melody is simplistic and fits the lyrics.
Looks like some old Kustom Black Naugahyde K100 amp and cabinet setup back behind the guitar and bass players. I remember seeing these in pawn shops in the 80’s and thinking what the hell were they thinking. It’s something my Mimi would have come up with to cover furniture. Definitely that early seventies look style.
Naugas were nearly driven extinct in the 70s. 😉
I remember it feeling like rubber but looking like faux leather. As far as the name Naugahyde I’m not sure where the name came from. I guess I should google it and see what the origin is.
I played in a band for years with a guy who had the blue sparkle Kustom bass head & cabinet. It was tuck and roll or whatever, padded with seams every inch or two. Cheesy looking by some standards, but it sounded really good.
Oh man…don’t I love her. I can’t wait to see this episode in its entirety. Her album One From The Heart is perfection from start to finish
The female Al Green... word up!!!
I'm a rocker by heart but there are some tracks that are just classic and traverse through all tastes.
Not only a great song but a superb performance from an era when artists had real consistent talent and had no requirement for auto tune to hide their distinct mediocrity.
Memphis Soul - Hi Records
One of the best horn sections of that time!
What a performance!
I always loved this song. She had such a great voice.
Timeless.
wow.
i was 5 months old
when this was on the telly.
😊
i’ve honestly never heard this version before.
quite honestly
i prefer it.!
😉😃
✌🏻🇦🇺🌏🤘🏻
She’s so soulful- this IS a fantastic live performance!
Great rendition of a great song.
Good stuff! I’m glad Missy Elliot sampled to bring it to people who hadn’t heard it before.
I love this tune and always thought she was so cool and unique. My sister had this album. I love the cover 💕
Just beautiful- great voice and a stone cold band.
Maravilhoso!!! Tanto essa quanto a versão com Tina Turner!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Quite "Soulful," the way all Music should be. I "Love to Sleep" when it's Raining and Thundering Outside. I guess I'm so used to sleeping alone, it doesn't bother me anymore. 😴⛈️🎶🌩
John Lennon loved this song. He called it "the best song ever."
Great video, love the studio version. Thank you.
Ludwig drums, Kustom amps, Hammond Organ...thats all you need for 70s soul and funk!!!
Puuure music 🎵🎶
This is awesome.
Awesome!
🎉 I hear that essence of Tracy Chapman., which I love if you remember her name
That bluesy groove!
Being a professional acoustic drummer for many moons this has always been my favorite music show. If someone is not playing a real instrument or singing in key it's definitely not music or talent it's noise pollution and synthetic.
Truth.
I agree
You mean Scaryoke right ??....LOL I totally agree got to be playing an instrument or belting out some vocals I want to see some sweat
Love it!!!❤❤❤
😊 love it!
Love it!
So good. And Memphis Horns.
Word !
Isso é ótimo.
é verdade, o meu amigo
I remember Tina Turner had a great live version of this song.
I like the Tina Turner version
She had a great song, Come to Mama. Bob Seger covered it later changing it to Come to Papa.
Really? That’s Bobs inspiration for his funky good tune?! I’ll have to give it a listen, Ty. That’s the song I dance to when I really wanna get down and get in a good exercise workout. My young teen granddaughter “caught” me dancing in tiny pjs to it with her iPhone - showing her 15yr old guy friend (she’s a brat - just like me). I Could Have Died!! & told him if he saw anything to please erase it from his memory. His reply “you’ve got some good moves!” Haha - grandmas still got it!
Just had a stank face throughout this performance. Damn!
I don’t think I’ve ever heard this version before. I’m assuming it’s a cover although maybe she originally did it? But I really like the percussion, especially at the beginning of the song. It’s really understated.
Not only did she do the original, she wrote this song!! It’s a fantastic live performance.
Wow. The Hi Records house band.
He's a really good singer.
Did somebody hurt you?
Show us all on this doll here where the bad person touched you.
@@Royale_with_Cheeze
🤣🤣🤣 🤭

That guy needs a paddle...
@@Royale_with_Cheeze
Haha touché! Me & my friend Angie, didn’t bring a note from parents for SR HS “skip out day” a right of passage. This is a class of 850 seniors, the man principal told us we could come in 3 days in a row - 1 hour early and clean the parking lot or take 3 swats. We called his bluff thinking he wouldn’t paddle girls, we were wrong! He and the Asst. man principal swatted us behind his closed door making us bend over & grab our ankles, thank goodness I had on jeans. It hurt like hell & lifted me up, am tiny framed. I wouldn’t let them see me cry, looking back it’s so darn creepy & can’t believe I didn’t tell my parents. I believe we were both “targeted,” because we were adorable.
@@KittyGrizGriz
Back in my day, although I never endured it, students got the "rat hand", which may have actually been "rattan", the thin stick swatted across your hand for doing wrong.
When you went home and your parents saw the evidence of the "rat hand", you got punished by them as well for doing whatever you did to get punished in school.
Did she play trouble heartache and sadness on midnight special?
Im 41 had no idea Missy Elliot sampled this 🫣🤯
All these twits saying what a great "rendition" or "version" of the song. She co-wrote it. Other singers/groups have renditions. They're called covers of the original. It's Peebles song.
Good theme for rainy days. They don't call It Soul music for nothing .
Hi rhythm section section with the Memphis horns. Y'all know nothing about that
Isn't she a gospel singer?
That's what made TMS so great. They weren't limited to just one genre of music. I so miss this show.
No, she's an R&B singer and this was her biggest hit.
@@clapolla I'm probably thinking about Dottie Peebles.
steve mariotts version is way better
