A couple years ago I had to go help a friend of mine band bull calves. He didn't have a chute just some coral panels. Man was was that a rodeo. He raises pure bred Angus. 600 - 650 lbs calves . He's over 60 I was 55 . After that we biult a home made chute worked better but he just bought a nice chute . Can't wait to try it out.
We've used the bands on our calves for 3 years now. We are very happy with them. I think they are quite a bit better than the calcatrate bands. The calves seem to be in less pain. One tip, get the bands as far down on the sack away from the belly as you can. We give the calves Covexin 8 for the tetanus. We also use the extra heavy bands and bander to band the horns. They work great as well. The horns fall off in about 30 days+.
Thst xl bander works brilliantly. Iv been banding 700 to 800 lb bulls fir several years now and find it excellent and easy on human and beast . Best wishes from Ireland 🇮🇪
I really enjoy your videos. I like how you explain everything and talk about the logic behind what you doing. Is there any way we can get an update on what bulls are left on the farm?
It's great to see that beef ranchers are able to do so many (former veterinary) tasks, such as routine injections, and banding bulls. Now all we need are more "right to repair" laws concerning tractor maintenance, right !?!?
Lots of playing with balls jokes incoming. Lol Great video as usual. It's amazing to see you doing so much with less than the "big boys" Those pen panels you made are absolutely great. Hopefully we'll see your channel grow and get you to the point that full timing is an option if you wish that. From an old farm kid to you Thanks for the content. Lots of happy memories of working cattle with my papaw in the hills of Tn.
i also band bigger bulls like you're doing, one tip I can give is keep a good evy on those sacks. They can swell up and look tight and will prevent the band from completely setting no matter how tight the band is leading to an infection. The bulls will eat and look fine but can just end up passed one morning. Good luck.
Man them are some nice looking cattle we try to band our cattle when they’re just a day or two old so we don’t have to deal with that but sometimes it gets away from us. Nice vid.
@@cathiwim Well the best way we’ve done it is just kind of tell which one has the best personality and how big their head is and like just kind of the shape of their head if that makes sense like it’s hard to explain
Here you are doing these jobs solo while other guys are doing it with two and three man teams. I wonder if the banding is painful for a while. Do you ever find what drops off later? Some boys are shy, he did do some dancing there. I wonder if banding is safer than cutting. I have never seen stallions banded, it's always surgery. Good video. Pax.
That little tiny calf is so stinking cute I it a heifer? Do you ever see when the balls fall off? Are you going to raise anymore pigs you think or is it not worth the money and time?
Are you giving them pain medication and local when you cut their horns off? It sounds like it would be incredibly painful and I didn’t hear you mention it at all.
I actually did not cut off any horns this time. They were all bigger than I was comfortable with. I will eventually have the vet do it. Yes, local anesthesia would be used. You can cut the ends off of horns without them feeling it, but if you cut them down to the base it would be very painful without any local. Hope that answered it.
@@kimcallaghan3404 Dogs and cats are under anesthesia and the healing is over quickly because they are actually removed and not left to rot off. Yes, the end result is the same, but what they go through to achieve that end point is nothing alike.
Hes not hitting them, hes touching them to move them forward. Lets see you try and move a group of animals that outweigh you by 10 to 15 times your body weight, its not like dogs, cattle don't take commands

Wow, I'm anxious to see how those bands work out!
It prevent the blood to circulate and the balls fall off shortly after

Why not do it when first week.

Well unfortunately the FDA is taking away more and more things we can do ourselves.

Stallions are surgery because the testicles stay much closer to the body. Same thing for cats and dogs.
I think it’s only painful if you get your fingers caught in the device.
Thanks for explaining all the steps
😂😂😂😂that white bull was like what you doing George 😂😂😂🫡💙
Great upload.
Educational and is right there amongst home economics.
That important❤
That works good they act like its painless. Enjoyed your video have a great day.
Happy Christmas’ from County Waterford. Republic of Ireland
It's merry Christmas
We always banded them soon after they were born. Much easier on them…
What is the name of the pump u used for the ivermectin? And where would i get one ?
this video make me so wonderful happy Isaac my weekend is so wonderful to end i love it
When banding what does that do to the bull ❓ it may be a dumb question but no question is a dumb question just a stupid answer
The band cuts the blood circulation off and the testicles shrivel up, the bull becomes a steer.
The ball's will fall off in about 2 weeks then they will be steers ready to go to the auction then they go to a feed lot then slaughterhouse .
@@jamiegreen7537 FALL OFF?? oh my god, is that not painful for the bulls? i always assumed vets came through and removed them
@@ummno3703it cuts the blood supply off by strangulation of the vessels. They then shrivel and fall off.
@@ummno3703nope! It’s actually better, they lose the feeling in them rather than have to be given pain medicine for surgery and whatnot
U could have used some help. Working the calves and filming at the same time is a lot. U are amazing
I would suggest washing your hands before lunch. Blessings!
Do you give them Tetanus shots after you band them?
It was mixed with the blackleg in the first shot.
Are you going to keep your crazy bull.
In old days they clamped the big old bulls. They had clamps and didn't band the big bulls.
Some people still use metal clamps.

Thanks 😊
What was the medicine used in the ears?
Please make a weekly followup of these.... what is the end result...
Seeing you use that blue thing I thinking man we had to use the horse and lariat and holler at em
Spotted the cutest calf 2024
I always try too band them at couple weeks nowadays

What is worng with a knise
I'm assuming you meant knife.....the problem is bleeding in older bulls
We tie fish string on the cord
Nothing.
Aww, you didn't show what you do about the horns lol I've seen people band the horns, they eventually fall off apparently
Ouch
Why wait until they are so big and older,….Why not do them when they are younger…?
Hi I like your video
has anybody given any thought to try to train a dog to her the cows like they do with sheep? It’s basically the same process only they’re bigger.
I had a beagle t😢hat liked to help herd cows, he loved cows that beagle grew up around them. Often slept with baby calves.
Should check out rotational grazing amazing that ivermectin destroys all the good bugs
🎉🇧🇷
You need a helper.😊😊😊

I missed the de-horning. Or did I not hear you right?

There are no nerves in the horns. It has blood supply but no nerves. Horns are like fingernails to us😊

Why would anyone band a big bull.. seems cruel..
To turn em into steers, bulls will fight if left intact and grouped
Stop waking the them like that
Horrible! What if one day humans will be treated same way they treat animals?
Not horrible in the least, people have issues with neutering dogs and cats its no different with bulls.
@@kimcallaghan3404 Dogs and cats are under anesthesia and the healing is over quickly because they are actually removed and not left to rot off. Yes, the end result is the same, but what they go through to achieve that end point is nothing alike.
Already did that in the past. The human equivalent is a eunuch. Most men didn't survive the procedure, either.
Ewwww😮
What a total waste of deliciousness.
Just terrible!!!
This is not right stop stop stop
Why are you castrating the boys? Why not just separate them so that one pen has all boys the other has girls if you don’t want them together
Because they grow better as steers- no feed is wasted on hormonal teenage bulls.
Primary reason is that steers bring more money at the sale barn.
Ivermectin... you are ready for the next scamdemic 😅
Wasting a lot of good food
Don't worry, you can have them balls once they fall off
Rocky mtn. oysterz??
Yeah we cut everything when they weigh about 400
Please stop hitting them so much..
Hes not hitting them, hes touching them to move them forward. Lets see you try and move a group of animals that outweigh you by 10 to 15 times your body weight, its not like dogs, cattle don't take commands
@ whether they outweigh me or not, I wouldn’t hit them to get them to move because that hurts them.
