The switch made me fall back in love with gaming and game collecting, so much nostalgia about playing odyssey back in 2017 and taking my switch everywhere with me ❤️
Was my first official Nintendo console. Had a gba from my brother for Pokémon and Mario kart. Had a 3Ds…..for Pokémon and Mario kart and now I have a switch………….for Pokémon and Mario kart lol. I also love botw and splatoon now
Same here!! The hype for the Switch was sooo epic. Can’t believe this is now 5 years old. I remember being 13 going on 14 in middle school, now I’m 18 turning 19 in my senior year of high school. I feel old but also still young lol.
Absolutely same here. Only got a switch December last year, but it has completely changed the way I interact with games. Used to be where I would go weeks or months without playing anything, now I am excited every day after work to hop into Pokemon or Astral Chain or many others. I generally play something every day now, much easier to fit into my daily routine.
I remember rushing into target on launch day and getting a special edition of Zelda and a switch off the shelf. Only three left. I remember coming into work late telling my boss why and he was like, “do you got it? Can we plug it in and check it out?” So I remember vividly going through the menus and starting Zelda with my boss and us both being starry eyed playing it on screen and just ripping it out of the dock with no lag, no software crashes and just being enamored with the machine. A true work of art really. Happy 5th Switch!
To me personally having a switch just gives me nostalgic vibes from when I first got my Gameboy and Nintendo ds lite. Great handheld console that keeps me busy from time to time just like the old days
GBA was the first gaming console I got. The games I got with it all have deep rooted memories in me. Pokemon Emerald, Ultimate Spiderman, Spiderman 3, Ice Age Meltdown, Super Mario Bros 3. They weren't huge in numbers, but they filled the space in my heart and memories. Then I got the Wii when I was 10 and there I had lots more games that also gave me great memories. Both Mario Galaxy games, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports, Sonic and the black knight, Epic Mickey, Bully Scolarship Edition, COD Black Ops, Marvel Super Hero Squad, Michael Jackson The Experience, Rabbids Go Home, Mario And Sonic at the olympic winter games, Spiderman Shattered Dimensions, The Last Story, Lego LOTR, both Lego Harry Potter games, Lego Batman 1 and 2, Lego POTC, Bee Movie Game, Narnia Prince Caspian, Iron Man, Sims 2 Castaway (got a bit let down that I couldn't have relationships) and Spiderman Web Of Shadows. A lot of games. Some you would probably call bad, but their place in my heart are all equally as big as the other with only my absolute favourites shining brighter than the others. And the Switch feels like both the GBA and Wii combined. It's my childhood in a package for my adult self with the means to get any game I want.
Absolutely. The N64 was what started it all for me and my SP and og DS were my most played consoles growing up. The Switch got me back into gaming and was worth every penny. I don't care for the newer consoles I just want more nostalgic fun from Nintendo.
Hmm... not all that surprising that the Switch generates so much nostalgia, given that Nintendo has ported SO many of their old games to the console...
I originally bought the switch because the guy I fancied had one and i wanted to have an excuse to talk to him more. We've now been together over 3 years. The switch literally changed my life. Keep making the videos even after 5 years you still produce the best switch videos.
Not gonna lie I was expecting a "we drifted apart, but I realized the Switch is the partner I was looking for all along", but this ending? It's genuinely better. Happy for ya, stranger.
I hadn't owned a console since the N64 when I was a kid, but I bought a Switch as an adult because I loved the idea of playing a full open-world game from bed and I didn't even own a TV anyway. I love this console and I hope the successor to the Switch continues to be just as portable.
I’ve been gaming all of the 33 years of my life. I’ve played on ALOT of different platforms from the genesis, to high performing PC’s. I really do think the switch might be my favorite of all time. The ease of operation, the games, being able to play anywhere I go, etc. I could go on and on.

The switch v2 made me fall in love with the console and gaming. Just having upgraded to the oled I absolutely love it and I can’t wait for the future switch console!
(19:03) 2022 do be the repeat of "2027" but it will be interesting to see the console's momentum of future line-ups heading towards the Switch's 10th year. I'm glad that I eventually got the OLED model but anyways, Happy birthday Switch! 🎉
The Switch got me through the stress, trouble, problems and everything this pandemic has thrown my way. Being in the health care system this has been especially tough not being able to see our families and friends and also being in constant bouts battling for the lives of our patients. At the end of a very tough day and even more than a few days of straight work having my Switch and just playing in my small room in the hospital gave me enough of a stress reliever to get me through the toughest days of my life.
The Switch Arc of Nintendo's anime really is a banger. So many callbacks to the previous arcs, as if the Switch is calling upon all of the old console friends that Nintendo has made throughout the year, and with the power of console friendship, powered up the MC of this arc into infinity. It's been very emotional looking back, watching all of the flashbacks and remembering the console's backstories, all of it leading up to what the Switch is on release, and what it has become today. You can almost see the ghosts of the old consoles, gathered around the Switch, smiling with love as the Switch celebrates his 5th birthday this year along with everyone else. What an amazing arc this has been so far.
The switch changed my life too, i brought it in march 2020 after watching a few of your videos, and purchased zelda botw, mario odyssey and animal crossing(that just released) and had endless fun and it helped me through quarantining for 2 years and through a low time. I have you to thank for such a life changing gaming experience and weekly video and streaming entertainment from you, so thankyou
I think that may have been my first Beatemups video. I literally searched up: Nintendo switch games worth buying, and your video popped up, and I’m so thankful for it.
Where have I been the last 5 years? How could I have missed this channel up until early 2021? I am happy for Nintendo and it's success. I am happy that it is given content creators like you this wonderful opportunity. But I am most happy for you, Wood. I am happy for your success. I'm happy for the obstacles that you overcame to come to this point. I am happy that you have found love throughout this journey. There really is no better way of saying this other than to say congratulations my friend. And thank you for your hard work, your dedication, and you're clear, genuine, and honest love you have for us, the viewers. Thank you!
The switch also changed my life. I remember obsessing over Super Mario Odyssey back in 2017 and I didn’t have a switch until 2020 so I had to see people enjoying so many Switch greatness and I was 3 years late into it. But either way, I’m so glad for the Switch’s existence and I hope that whatever Nintendo has next, it can live up to the expectations of their fans.
its absolutely hilarious that i had the exact same experience but with splatoon 2. funnily enough i never got splatoon 2 and now since splatoon 3 was revealed ill wait for that instead
@@LUPITHE0NZ I planned on buying Splatoon 2 but then I found out Splatoon 3 is coming so I changed my mind even though I might not get Splatoon 3 seeing as my wallet is going to suffer this year.
@@xbro154ever SAME HERE... MHRise Sunbreak... Bayonetta 3... BOTW 2... god knows what else. maybe even Kirby. plus some older games ive never played, like Odyssey. i will get it. and play it. eventually. i hope
@@LUPITHE0NZ MArio Odyssey is one of switcg's best games even if it isn't for everyone. I hope you enjoy it! Also, yes this year will kill our wallets 🥲
I only discovered you last year, but I officially recognize you as THE switch channel to watch. Heck you got me back into pokemon which I had abandoned since pokemon ruby/saphire/emerald. You're arceus review renewed my interest in pokemon. I am proud to say I am a switch child. Thank you for the great content!!!
For all the Switch’s (and Nintendo’s) faults, there’s something irrepressibly special about what it represents. If anyone ever doubted that Wood loves Nintendo… well even this might not convince them.
I’m new to the switch, just got an Oled for myself 2 months ago but I can only imagine the joy it will give me in the future. It’s been a hard 10 yrs for me health wise and although I’m not getting better anytime soon I want to get out living life again. I’m so grateful to you wood for your time, effort, energy, PASSION (you know where that’s from and u do have a lot of it) and love that you obviously put into your content. You really are appreciated for all you do, I just joined twitch so I can watch your content there as I really need to learn how to play these games and you and others make it look fun. I wish you amazing years to come with all the blessings you deserve. Oh yeah happy birthday switch!
I still remember all the negativity surrounding the Switch because it was a portable device and people saying that the chip would be too weak to get anything of note, Nintendo would once again miss out on all the 3rd party games, and that it would be a repeat of the Wii U. I remember people specifically saying games like Overwatch, Witcher 3, Skyrim, Fortnite, Destiny, and Call of Duty wouldn't come to the system. 4 of those 6 games came to Switch and while CoD and Destiny aren't there, Warface, Apex Legends, and Warframe are. I understand, the Switch is in fact a portable device using portable hardware, but what I never understood then about the people pushing the Switch is too weak narrative or about a lot of the people who speak negatively on console tech performance in general is, the bulk of the ones who are bashing devices like the Switch, the Xbox Series S, the Wii U, the 3DS, etc. are, admittedly, tech illiterate, and stay away from the PC space, and game on console because they find the PC space daunting. This really boggles my mind. This is like getting your cooking advice from somebody who only eats TV dinners or getting your workout advice from somebody who clearly doesn't work out. Meanwhile, the PC gamers and tech enthusiasts generally speak highly of most of the consoles, Switch and Xbox Series S included. They note that you can't buy or build as powerful as those devices for their prices around their launches which is very true. The reality of Switch is that it was very impressive hardware, performing as good as the top end mobile hardware in games even into 2019. And because they decided to go with the Tegra X1 chip which married PC and mobile hardware and also had insanely good developer tools from Nvidia, Unity, and Unreal, Switch got a ton of ports that even Xbox and Playstation didn't get. It's really insane looking back on it now and seeing just how catastrophically wrong all the naysayers were.
Switch brought me back to gaming. Being a 90's video game kid, I became bored with playstation 2 and thought gaming was over for me. And then my life changed because I tried again with the Switch in 2020. Thank goodness!! Life is good again!
See? SEE!!?! You’re not a hater of Nintendo! If you hated Nintendo would you have made a video celebrating the Nintendo Switch?! NO, you wouldn’t have. But you did. You celebrated 5 years with the NINTENDO Switch. Why? Because you are a true lover of Nintendo. Love the vids. You rock.
Final Fantasy Tactics is my favourite game of all time. As soon as I saw Triangle Strategy, I went out and got a Switch OLED, after years of playing PlayStation. The experiences that the Switch delivers feels like gaming should. Just pure fun with great titles. I think Nintendo will be my go-to console from now on, after not having one since N64.
I absolutely adore your content wood me and my 11 yr old sis watch your videos after a long day at school!! Thanks for all your amazing switch content!!!
Been watching the channel since the first switch video, I remember that day sitting down at my college between courses and watching your video. In this video you mentioned the 3 people creating switch content. It was you, RGT85, and 8 bit Eric. I still watch you and RGT85 all the time. Don't remember when I subscribed, but seeing your older videos here brought back memories. Another cool thing, I was on the first twitch stream you did back in 2020, and won the first giveaway from that, a $20 eShop card that I used to by my then fiancee switch online membership. Now that I am married, my wife and I continue to watch this content together regularly. I also have a day 1 switch, and still use it regularly as my only switch. Love you and Kim, Wood. Keep it up!
I bought the switch thanks to you back when it launched and my first Zelda game was breath of the wild. The switch has now fueled my Zelda addiction to collecting every one ever created. Thanks to you I’ve found a game and system that I love and adore! Thanks!
This is why you are my favorite UA-camr. Sometimes I don't buy the game but watch you going over all the crazy/bad/cheap games. Thank you for the past 5 years!
Amazing video, man! Nintendo Switch is the reason I got back to gaming and I am so happy for everything this console has represented. Sending you love from Mexico.
I remember picking mine up the day it came out and the experience was miserable because the cashiers almost didn’t give me my preorder :( luckily I got mine and have had a blast with it for the past five years. And because of it I found this channel! So thanks for years of switch coverage. Can’t wait to see the switch pro!
We all know what an emotional rollercoaster this console has been for gamers. It has been great to share these 5 years with you and your community. Thank you for getting sincere, emotional, and excited with all of us. Let's continue playing and enjoying all games to come! 😎 ✌🏼 Hugs!
As awesome as the Switch's success has been, watching your channel grow has absolutely been the best part of it for me. I remember that Wii U vs Switch video all those years ago. You were the first UA-camr I hairflipped on that subscribe button for and I still come back daily to check if you've uploaded anything new. You're also the only person I'm subscribed to on Twitch (although I still have only watched one stream), so I guess I'm off to buy some G-Fuel now! Thanks for all the good years, Wood.
Wow I've been watching your channel for 5 years. I was in line at Walmart on launch day. Zelda coming out on launch is what made me get the switch on day 1. Search for videos to watch and your channel came up I've been watching ever since.
I swear as soon as I finished this video I thought, “but you hate Nintendo!” Lolol man I love your stuff. I’ve been with you for years now and the switch has been with me some extreme ups and downs and will always have a special place in my heart. Keep on doing your thing man! And hello from Texan out west of you!
Im working on making a rc car and 3d printing youtube channel with my gf, already bought a 800$ rc car and a gopro for fpv, gotta make 10 videos first to give me time for making more videos b4 i post.... but i keep breaking my rc car running it into things so my video making is slow af rn 😔
Man looking back at these old videos and old backgrounds of the videos and the quality change. 5 years does not seem that long ago and the quality of content I felt was always consistent but man you have improved immensely. Keep it up Wood.
Man, what a ride it has been, these past five years. Thanks you for all the fun content and congrats on your success. Your hard work has brought you a long way!
I just bought an oled nintendo switch yesterday and Played All AAA Games and it was so Awesome, My Waiting was worth it 🔥🔥🔥 Happy Birthday Nintendo Switch 🥳
I bought my first ever Nintendo Switch (Lite) this January. I'm a little late to the party, but because of you and your channel, I had and now have, 5 years worth of Nintendo Switch videos that I really love. I remember a lot of your game reviews that helped me decide what games to get! Thank you for the content!
Wood, on your wedding anniversary make just as big a show of that lil lady you gat that's been with you as much as you did the Switch. It's been cool to watch y'all grow. Some of your best videos included her. Wishing y'all continued love and happiness with your 5 year old Nintendo Switch
So many incredible games, the Switch has. And so many incredible games to come. For all kinds of gamers for all kinds of genres there is something for everybody to enjoy with the Switch. 2022 is going to be an excellent year, I already had a back catalogue but this year its gonna get even bigger.
5:28 I wouldn’t consider Xenoblade 2 to be a “quality title.” It has a huge amount of plot holes, plot inconsistencies, nonsensical character actions purely done to move the story along, and overall terrible writing which greatly lowers the game’s quality. Not to mention just how slow the game is in the first half. The infamously terrible tutorials that last like 40-50% of the game overcomplicate a shockingly simple and easy RPG. Most people go from dying to everything because they don’t understand anything, to never dying because of how easy the game is once you learn the basics (with no help from the tutorials). The gameplay does get better, but that doesn’t erase the mistakes the game has.
I will always love nintendo for bringing me and everyone else who loves Zelda, Pokemon, Mario, etc and with this new Kirby game coming im excited to check out a little bit of that franchise too. Will say zelda will always be number 1 for me
Brought my first switch september 2017. during my medical internship. it was one of the most stressfull days of my life. having to wake up early to go to the hospital. keeping up with reports, revalidas, exams and of couse studying for the boards. stress always keeps piling but whenever my rare day-off comes I pour hours into BOTW, mario oddysey and skyrim on my switch and I just feel so refreshed.
What makes this even weirder is its been 5 years just since your channel. Blew up more with the switch content, but I've been watching since the beginning back when you used to do game hunting videos in Australia. Crazy how. Time flies, I've had two Kids, moved cities and got. Married since.
I got my Switch a year +2 days later. I was starting to get back into some retro gaming at the time getting my old SNES and N64 out and the Switch was fairly new at the time. I started watching gamer UA-camrs like MetalJesus (which is actually where I was introduced to you Wood) and RGT85, there was some talk of it on AVGN's channel but RGT was the one that sold me on the Switch because of the versatility and how it looked like a prime console for retro gaming. The fact that Doom 2016 got ported over and was a fantastic port was another key selling point for me cuz I had been absent from gaming for many years and wanted something new and fresh to play while being able to play older games and The Switch seems to be living up to that promise. So glad I bought one, I've enjoyed practically every game i've gotten for it.
Hey man I just wanted to say I really appreciate your content... I'm not a gamer nor have I much interest in games... but someone bought me a switch for Christmas a couple years ago and I didn't know which games to get and came across YOUR videos which helped me out with that. While watching, could just tell that you are such a nice and giving person. Thanks for all you do man!
the switch is the reason i became a big gamer again. i love my ps5, but my switch has to be my favorite gaming system ever. i love handheld mode, i never play on the tv unless i have friends over. handheld mode allows me to play video games and spend time my fiancé while he watches a show or something. i hope the handheld option is something we don’t lose in the future because it’s something i truly love
what I love about the switch now is all the more obscure and idie titles that have physical releases and has made my switch what I collect for the most in contemporary systems
I transitioned from a console gamer to PC, but I still love my switch. In the future if the switch doesn't come out with a beefy stronger console I might consider buying a steam deck, but I wholeheartedly love my switch and play it almost exclusively in handheld mode.
Christmas 2020 I bought a switch for my kids. It really did not take long for me to get hooked again dammit. I had a ps1, ps2, Sega, Xbox 360 than took a long break. I just love how I can pick up and play this console everywhere. You make great videos Wood, love watching your content. Keep up the great work.
I recently picked up the switch OLED and instantly fell in love. The last Nintendo device I had was the ds lite (blush pink obviously people) and the nostalgia, memories, and love hit me all again. I got back into gaming and hopefully plan to livestream soon. Watching this video reminded how much games and companies can have a huge impact on our lives and im just glad to be able to get back to basics even tho life keeps getting complicated as we grow older. Happy gaming guys ❤️

@@xbro154ever SAME HERE... MHRise Sunbreak... Bayonetta 3... BOTW 2... god knows what else. maybe even Kirby. plus some older games ive never played, like Odyssey. i will get it. and play it. eventually. i hope
@@LUPITHE0NZ MArio Odyssey is one of switcg's best games even if it isn't for everyone. I hope you enjoy it! Also, yes this year will kill our wallets 🥲
I also hope that too. Just like with the Steam Deck, it can only go up from here for the next switch, hopefully.
One of the best Beatemups video of all time, super emotional.
Just look at his videos from the past few days to know that he.. in fact.. hates Nintendo
@@_sparrowhawk you didnt even watch the video did you ?
This was an Incredible party wood 🎉 thanks for inviting us! Hahaha!
We love you Wood. Here's to another 5 years.
I agree, this has to be my favorite console as well!
This channel is so awesome and you truly deserve all of the success you've gotten over the years for the work you do.
See?
You rock.
Love your vids wood keep it up!
I turn my Switch on as soon as I get home every day, and before I go to bed, even if i don't play it lol! Gah, I freakin' love my Switch so much.
I’m turning 14 this year which makes me very happy. I know that with my money I’ll be spending a lot of it on all these new amazing switch games.
I really do agree with his point at 19:04, 2022 really is a repeat of 2027
I absolutely adore your content wood me and my 11 yr old sis watch your videos after a long day at school!! Thanks for all your amazing switch content!!!
I have no idea how Nintendo is gonna top the Switch
Keep it up!
This was a very well made video. None of your usual scream and personality. This is very wholesome at the same time train down memory lane
These 5 years has been incredible I can't wait to see the ones to come!
At 19:06 i think it's funny how he says 2022 is a repeat of 2027 🤣
Been watching for four years and love to see your success. Hope the next 5 years treat you well!
19:07 wood:2022 is like 2027 me:ummmmmm 5 yrs later
I bought the switch thanks to you back when it launched and my first Zelda game was breath of the wild. The switch has now fueled my Zelda addiction to collecting every one ever created. Thanks to you I’ve found a game and system that I love and adore! Thanks!
switch is for kids
@@SportsReplays I’m not a kid soo..
@@SportsReplays so a game has to have blood and cursing to be appropriate for an adult?
Today is my actual birthday and I have never felt so celebrated before…
We all know what an emotional rollercoaster this console has been for gamers. It has been great to share these 5 years with you and your community. Thank you for getting sincere, emotional, and excited with all of us. Let's continue playing and enjoying all games to come! 😎 ✌🏼 Hugs!
Cant believe ive been watching Wood for so long. The past 5 years have flown by!
I always absolutely love these videos when they come out it only takes a year.
fun fact: 5 years is called a lustrum.
happy birthday switch!
Wood really treats his switch like his kid 💀
Because the switch is
My switch helped me get through some tough times the last few years. I’ve been part of your channel the whole way, congratulations on your success.
Because of you I bought a Nintendo switch OLED
I swear as soon as I finished this video I thought, “but you hate Nintendo!” Lolol man I love your stuff. I’ve been with you for years now and the switch has been with me some extreme ups and downs and will always have a special place in my heart. Keep on doing your thing man! And hello from Texan out west of you!
Love your content definitely motivated me to give making a UA-cam channel a try. Thank you for the inspiration 😊
@@shaggytewsak I will subscribe ☺️
Happy birthday wood! Hope you have a good 5th birthday! ;)
You're amazing Wood! Really looking forward to how your content evolves when we do enter the time of the next Nintendo Console.
I just bought an oled nintendo switch yesterday and Played All AAA Games and it was so Awesome, My Waiting was worth it 🔥🔥🔥
Happy Birthday Nintendo Switch 🥳
Can't believe it's already five years old
19:04 Ah yes, I loved 2027!
Am I the only one who noticed him say 2027 instead of 2017? 19:05
It's cool that the switch has been such a big part of your recent life and brought so much life to your channel!
I prefer my PlayStation though.
🤣🤣🤣
Love you Wood! Happy anniversary. 😊♥️
Wood: 2022 is a repeat of 2027
Me: wHaT dID hE sAYyy
I will always love nintendo for bringing me and everyone else who loves Zelda, Pokemon, Mario, etc and with this new Kirby game coming im excited to check out a little bit of that franchise too. Will say zelda will always be number 1 for me
Man I’ve been one of the earliest adaptors since Wood & Kane or game quest if you will
19:07 2027???!!!?
I guess that means 5 years since I subbed to the channel too, nice!
5:46 everytime golf story is mentioned i just get so happy. Its probably my favorite game on the switch
You deserve all the success Wood! Let’s go 2022
Brought my first switch september 2017. during my medical internship. it was one of the most stressfull days of my life. having to wake up early to go to the hospital. keeping up with reports, revalidas, exams and of couse studying for the boards. stress always keeps piling but whenever my rare day-off comes I pour hours into BOTW, mario oddysey and skyrim on my switch and I just feel so refreshed.
Amazing video, amazing i had a really really REALLY REALLY fun time watching it really
You convinced me to get a switch for my husband, now I'm saving for my own. I play his all the time.
What makes this even weirder is its been 5 years just since your channel. Blew up more with the switch content, but I've been watching since the beginning back when you used to do game hunting videos in Australia. Crazy how. Time flies, I've had two Kids, moved cities and got. Married since.
This was a better birthday party than any I’ve ever been to.
The switch deserved every second of it
19:03 ah yes 2022 is a repeat of 2027
"2022 is a REPEAT of 2027" - Wood . This man has seen things already! 19:03
It's way to damn hilarious when you realize they filmed all of this without any music in the background, just dead, bright, silent, birthday.

19:07 hey wood you living in the future 2027
I transitioned from a console gamer to PC, but I still love my switch. In the future if the switch doesn't come out with a beefy stronger console I might consider buying a steam deck, but I wholeheartedly love my switch and play it almost exclusively in handheld mode.
No one else goes this hard for the Switch!!!!
wow! didn't realize its been 5 years already time flies man , happy birthday to the switch and breath of the wild as well!
I love how you kept the lights flashing on GFuel's website like the party never stopped
Bought my switch on Nov 2017 and I've been here ever since! Can't wait to see what the future holds.
12:38 Legend Zayn, was there when it started, best fan there is!!
