This is just to answer a common asked question, i got my BOSS oc-2 from months of searching and it's not being made anymore as far as i know. Hope this helped
I'm afraid i don't know the particular OC-3, but i believe i've seen it has an "oc-2" mode. The keys to the CKY sound is following: Octave1 at 100% octave2 at 50% And direct level or Mix between the two should be at 2 o'clock if u think of the dials like a clock. i hope this helps somewhat since i dont have an OC-3 myself. =)
I have an old Boss ME-50 board and I just set the pedal mode to -1 Octave and have it basically down to 0. Then I switch on a light harmonist on modulation and it sounds very similar to this as another option.
Well that was easier than I thought it would be. I looked on the CD and one guitarist had guitar, bass and vocals under their attributions. I was curious as to whether he was on octave guy, or just did bass in studio. I was also pleasantly surprised to remember I had a Super Octave 3 sitting around.
Very nice! I use a boss oc-3 and 'attempt' to get it to sound like derons set up.. Im useless though! Also thats an awesome derons jam you did there! Been watching many vids and can't for the life of me figure out how it actually goes! I play it similar, in drop D half a step down but I dont know if he used that tuning for his jam!
I made a quick video to show how i play it in Standard tuning, very quiet sound because its very late but check my fingerpositions and you will quickly figure out how i play it. =) ua-cam.com/video/Q-pQPjT6yF0/v-deo.html
Mine is actually from Taiwan, i don't think that matters that much though, the price is so steep because its so rare, they stopped manifacturing this pedal years ago in favour of making the oc-3 which i don't believe has te same sound abillity, if u actually get an oc-3, test it, i may even be better then oc-2 since its the latest version. :) I was just lucky to get my hands on a oc-2, had to pay about 74$ for it :)
Hey! You can get it very similar but not exactly the same since c-3 has more knobs and things and has options to do polyphonic sound whatever that means, i've heard it in videos and it is fairly accurate but not exactly the same since OC-2 is the one Deron started using. :)
The closest one I've found to this type of sound is the Danelectro "Black Licorice" pedal. It only drops an octave with distortion though, and you can't really get the right level of distortion, or at least I couldn't. I'll have to see if I can find one of these pedals. It sucks trying to get pedals that aren't in production. They're always way over-priced, like the Danelectro "Back Talk" pedal I tried to find, which produces the same effect used in inhuman creation station's solo...off to ebay!
Yeah the black licorice is gain all the way up no way to dial it back. That one is now one of my fave 'bad' pedals of all time.I' m fixin to mount it on a three output ffrankenstrat to use on only one string.
if you're really a nut for this sound like i am there are a few more elements you want to better mimic his sound, especially his more refined sound from later albums and recent works. i believe deron predominantly uses a marshall jcm 2000 and/or a peavey 6505. he also uses things like a boss super distortion or a tube screamer. i use an ibanez tube screamer i think it sounds better than the sd-1. A chorus pedal, an equalizer if you see fit just to fine tune the tone more and a noise suppressor otherwise your guitar will just ring out like crazy.
Yea, i personally don't like Marshall though, for some reason it's the one I've used the most variations of and the one I'm never happy with, Except for the Marshall Jackhammer pedal i use when rehearsing, was a cheap pick and I love it. :)
Is yours made in Taiwan or Japan? Is there a difference between the two? How much did you pay for yours? I just bid on one today made in Taiwan for $99, but got outbid by a $1 while I was at work. For some reason, the ones made in Japan are getting higher asking prices; like $160-$190. I was wondering if the pedals made in Japan were different or somehow better.
Heya! its known over internet as "Derons Jam" its from i believe CKY4, is none released material Deron didn't think was good enough to be a CKY song. Sounds way cool though, here's a link to it! =) /watch?v=ZnGwitMPbdI
Thanks! I have an OC-2 that I’m running with an Orange Crush amp and SG. Still can’t quite get it. Any particular drive/distortion you’re coupling the OC-2 with?
nah just fiddle a little with the knobs, eventually u will get it, these settings could be made even better with more time, i did it many years ago on a peavey vypyr 100w with the first preset it had.
Yea i know, it really sucked trying to get my hnds on this one, i had to order it to get sent from some random dude in the completely different region of my country, having to send him like 50 euro in advance and hoping to actually get this one and in working order back, but it was way worth it getting the exact same pedal as they used on the record because u can just dile in the same kind of sound in a second and without further hassle, i just use the distortion on my amp (Peavey vypyr 100 A1)
I've never used the OC-3, but I've seen it..hehe.. I know that the OC-3 have an option to switch to an "OC-2" mode, i believe u can get a similar sound, if not the same, then similar enough since th eOC-2 isn't being made anymore, My friend is using the OC-3 and is getting a good sound with it from using my settings, so I'm sure OC-3 does it's job too. =)
Dean Humble Yeah i can imagine! It's probably next to impossible to make a new version of an old sound without a few losses, especially if they try to introduce a lot of new things in the newer version. I really had to work hard to get my OC-2, had to send for it from some random dude in the south of Sweden, had to pay a 500 SEK in advance and hope to actually get it. Totally worth it though. :)
Yea they're really rare nowadays, the worst thing is that its successor OC-3 doesn't seem to be as good as oc-2, its got many more features but for the sound i'd like IE the CKY octaves u can probably only reach with this pedal, ifyou find it and really want it id say 100$ could be worth it just to not have to get OC-3
That's most definetly becaus ethe OC-2 isn't being made anymore, but i can see a point on the quallirty of it too, sad they decided polyphonic was better then the OC-3,
Absolutely, since OC-2 is very very rare nowadays, it's got an OC-2 setting. take in mind though that it not 100% the same, but its capable of making a very nice CKY sound. :)
OC-3 works pretty well for anyone wondering. Same settings but there's a poly mode as well which is awesome for non-CKY stuff.
Thank you for this.
Had that octave pedal back in high school. Sounds so choice.

AWESOME SOUND DUDE! Good guitar play also!
I wish you good luck mate! :)

Ahh thanks, i always wondered that, great vid!
No problem mate! :)

How much distortion are you using behind this lol , I know this is an old video . But I’m about to get an OC-2 off eBay

captainslaveman look up Valeton oc-10 on eBay it's a clone pedal that's spot on
Thanks a lot🤘
HELL YEAH THATS THE SOUND!!!!

The truck now is to get that sounds with the OC-5 :’)
thanks for letting us all know
Thank you!
Nailed it
Hey anytime mate, let me know if u run into any trouble!
Hey!
You can get it very similar but not exactly the same since c-3 has more knobs and things and has options to do polyphonic sound whatever that means, i've heard it in videos and it is fairly accurate but not exactly the same since OC-2 is the one Deron started using. :)
Good call...thanks!
You're welcome! :)
Sick.
You can also use the bheringer super octaver and its cheap
BURNANET NURRRR
yo nice guitar, what is the name of the song in the second riff you play? TIA
Derons Jam from cky 4, it's been answered over 20 times in the comments
nice
Do you mind letting me know if it can use a 9v ac adapter like your standard boss pedal .??
mat ei don't know, electronics aint my forté. just get a standard ps-2 or whatever they are called and you can't go wrong, they arte cheap enough
@@MusicKenComedy the plug at 0:31 is that a 9v ac adapter??

mate what track is that from? 1:11 i cant for the life of me remember lol
Derons jam from cky4
what is the name of the second riff you do??
"Derons jam" from CKY 4

On album they use a 70s Marshall JMP . Only live they used the jcm 2000 which sounds like ass in comparison to a JMP
Yeah it's modded tho so you'd have to work that out too haha
Yea, i personally don't like Marshall though, for some reason it's the one I've used the most variations of and the one I'm never happy with, Except for the Marshall Jackhammer pedal i use when rehearsing, was a cheap pick and I love it. :)
I'm late, but it's pretty pretty close to his actual tone, it's missing a little something though
Gee i don't know maybe completely different gear?
Oc-2 pedals are super easy to find as well
Youre llaying that riff wronf. Right notes very wrong position
Wow, that's pretty spot on. I have been using GuitarRig 5 and it also has pretty good octavizer.
Just found an OC-2 on ebay that im gonna klick home, gonna test those settings!
Thanks mate!
Legend!
Yay! :)

There's a clone that Valeton pedals make called the loft series oc-10 it's legit
Can you get the same sound with the oc-3, or is it only the oc-2?

I just got an Oc-3. What should the dials look like to get the cky sound?
I always thought they was a fuzz pedal to it.
Jesse Deleon Chad uses lots of fuzz.
Had the OC 3 but traded it in for the POG pedal. Always thought it got the sound way better then the OC 3
Deron uses the OC-2. Thats your issue right there.
pog
(if you know) With the OC-3 and OC-2 pedal, are they the same? with the OC-3 just having more settings? or are they completely different sounding?
I've never used the OC-3, but I've seen it..hehe.. Okay, thanks for that!
***** I now have a OC-3 the sound is okay, i just need a better guitar i think.
+ShadowFilms I have both, the OC-2 is far superior. The OC-3 just sounds really digital and gritty.
Dean Humble Yeah i can imagine! It's probably next to impossible to make a new version of an old sound without a few losses, especially if they try to introduce a lot of new things in the newer version. pharaphet it doesn’t achieve the same sound? I found an oc-3 for $80 used. My gnx4 octivator gets me kinda close but not close enough.
That's most definetly becaus ethe OC-2 isn't being made anymore, but i can see a point on the quallirty of it too, sad they decided polyphonic was better then the OC-3,
the sun is burning my eyeballs
You WUSSY!!
What amp are you using?
Peavey Vypyr 100 on its standard A1 setting, with an Boss OC-2 pedal. =)
Can you use the Boss OC-3 instead?
Absolutely, since OC-2 is very very rare nowadays, it's got an OC-2 setting. take in mind though that it not 100% the same, but its capable of making a very nice CKY sound. :)
Diego Medina look up Valeton oc-10 on eBay it's a clone it's the shit I have one and recommend it to everyone
Does the oc-3 achieve the same sound?
Christopher Johnson no not exactly but it does have a oc-2 mode and Deron uses oc-3 in his new recordings so u can get a good sound from it
pharaphet sweet! Found one at a good price. I’ll go pick it up today.
What's the second riff from?
I remember hearing it on a CKY video just not sure if it's from an actual recorded song
what is name of the song you play from 1:10 ?
It's just a couple of Riffs Deron Miller did in CKY 4, just youtube "Derons jam" and you'l find it. :)
thanks thumb up:)
What cky?
