Some good info here on tongue weight. I like your tongue design. Eventually I think I’m going to replace my whole tongue with something stronger than what it came with.

It's funny how one small design requirement turns into multiple greater benefits.

Wow 11 gauge for the wall of the frame is pretty light. 1/8 minimum. Also your tongue should be under your angle pieces coming from under the frame, that way gives more support and strength. I would look at other trailer frame builds and see what other are making to give you direction.

It's holding up OK for our use, but if I were to do this again, like I described in the video I'd use 11 gauge tube.

did you do the welding yourself? If yes, did you have prior experience. I really want to build a DIY tear drop....I just don't want to get in over my head.

I did weld the frame myself. However, I'm not an expert by any mean. I had a little experience when was in college, but not much more than that. I purchased used welder from welder friend and he taught me some pointers. I practiced small pieces and had him check my work before working on the frame.
It is certainly doable, but everything is riding on it (literally) so good to have some help.
Have you checked DIY Teardrop Camper Community on Facebook? Really good knowledgeable people there willing to help build a small camper.

Ok, that's cool. Remember, nothing wrong about getting local trailer company to build the trailer for you. I believe Michael Foster (Camp and Camera, ua-cam.com/channels/Uu-Wbo58ba8ppxmfYH7Mlg.html) another member of the community had someone build his trailer. You should reach out to him too. He's really good guy.
