Train Cab Ride Luino - Bellinzona

  • Journey from Luino (Italy) to Bellinzona San Paolo on a cloudy day. You can hear the locomotive struggling a bit during accelerations and dynamic braking due to the poor adhesion, nothing that couldn't be handled luckily as this isn't an excessively demanding line.
    A relatively uneventful run is depicted here, save for the few temporary (/on paper at least/) speed restrictions and a train meet in Pino - Tronzano, after which we cross the border from Italy and get into Switzerland. The line is subject to swiss regulations in its entirety, although on the italian side is operated by the italian infrastructure manager RFI.
    Don't forget to turn on captions if you want to see station names and some other bits of info!

    Thank you for the lovely video. My aunt had a flat in the small village above the lake, Agra, and I often train spotted the cargo trains at Luino station. However it was usually quiet during daytime whereas there was more transport activity during the later hours. I parked in the car park to the left of the first level crossing getting out of Luino. Great memories. Thanks again.

    Excellent cab View and for the Italian 3kv ohle Masts those can handle the Swiss 1.45m pantographs German and Austrian 1.95m pantographs 15kv 16.7hz wires this also occurs on the simplon tunnel where Italian 3kv poles carry 15kv AC then Branch off to Basel via Bern and Paris via Lausanne Vallorbe 25kv 50hz from Simplon Tunnel

    Guten Abend, ich habe noch nicht verstanden, warum angesichts des europäischen Systems namens ETCS Level 2 die Zwergsignale geschlossen bleiben und die entsprechenden Lichter blau werden. In Italien werden sie auch in Anwesenheit des ETCS Level 2-Systems eröffnet (zum Beispiel zwischen Desio und Bivio Rosales).

    An excellent cab-ride video on a fascinating route. It's no fault of anyone but a pity it wasn't a sunny day as this is one of the most beautiful parts of Europe when the sun shines.

    Buonasera, non ho ancora capito per quale motivo in presenza del sistema europeo denominato ETCS Livello 2 i segnali nani rimangono chiusi e le relative luci hanno assunto il colore blu. In Italia vengono aperti anche in presenza del sistema ETCS Livello 2 (ad esempio fra fra Desio ed il Bivio Rosales

    Beautiful video. Interesting the fluid transfer of supply between 3000 VDC Italian and 15,000 VAC 16.6 Hz Swiss and the perfect continuity of signaling between ERTM and SCMT level2 !

      The transfer from 3 kV DC to 15 kV AC happens in Luino station, therefore it is not shown in this video

    Has the statues of the line increased as a bye-pass route due to the complexities of Lugano area and the timetabling of higher speed trains and freight? I ask because of the extension of the double track at the crossing point mid route.
