I did this trip a lot back in the 80's as a passenger seing all this spectacular view by train's right side or left side, now you gave me the oportunity to see this on view as cab ride.What view! Thank you very much and do the same all back to Bellinzona.
Absolutely fantastic trip! The scenery is breathtaking at times and I made a point of following the route on Google maps on another window. So, in every little town the train stopped I paused it while the train was in the station and I took a virtual Google street exploration, a bit like being there! It's great because it opens up for me new destinations in Europe on my next trip there, places that I never visited before. Thank You so much for sharing your trips with the Y.T. crowd. Much appreciated.

Super tolle Fahrt, Danke. Eine der schönsten Bahnstrecken überhaupt. Hoffen wir sie wird noch lange erhalten (ev. Unesco Kulturerbe). Es wäre schade ja gar tragisch wenn man sie zerfallen lassen würde. Man sieht den Gleisen schon gut an, dass sie nicht mehr so oft befahren werden.
Fantastic video. I have driven these this route both ways in Microsoft Train Simulator, and your video lets me see the actually scenery every step of the way. Plus, the entire nine minutes through the tunnel. Amazing feat of engineering over 130 years ago. Some of the most fascinating engineering solutions, the many spiral tunnels, on both sides of the Gotthard.

An excellent video, thank you! The old Gotthard Tunnel is truly impressive with all those colored lights inside of it. I felt like I was in the train taking part in the adventure. You don’t see tunnels like that anymore. Switzerland has some great tunnels👍🏻👍🏻🌼😃🌺

And everything so *clean.* I know this from experience, having travelled the Bernese Oberland by train - all the way up to Kleiner Scheideg! . 54:30 - Gotthard Tunnel - Train goes into 'high warp' - fantastic. // *The Gotthard Tunnel* is a 15.003-kilometre-long railway tunnel and forms the summit of the Gotthard Railway in Switzerland. It connects Göschenen with Airolo and was the first tunnel through the Saint-Gotthard Massif in order to bypass the St Gotthard Pass. It is built as one double-track, standard gauge tunnel. At it's highest point, the tunnel reaches -1,106 m (3,629 ft). Between1882 and 2000 the Gotthard Tunnel was the longest tunnel in the world. //wiki refers.

Die Bahnvideos von der Schweiz habt ihr sehr gut gemacht, ich mag die Karte vorweg, wo man siht wo es lang geht und die genauen Ortsangaben, oft mit Abzweigen von Bahnstrecken, mit Angaben über Brücken und durch Tunnel, oft mit Längenangaben und Baujahr, bei manchen Eürer Videos au mit Angabe der aktuellen Geschwindigkeit und mit Höhenangaben. Am liebsten fahre ich mit Euch virtuell über die Hochalpen! Ab 2000 üdm wirds richtig spannend..., und wenn man im Vorbeihahren noch eine romanische oder barocke Kirche sieht, oder eine Burg, um so besser... - bei 23:20 taucht ja mal rechrs eine richtig schöne romanische Tessiner Kirche auf (nicht die erste sondern die zweite kurz danach) und da, bei 34:26 nochmal ein romanischer Kirchturm, bei 49:36 taucht rechts noch eine kleine Barock-Kirche auf.
I recommend a book by C.G. Ethelston, a british civil engineer, titled: "Notes of a visit to the works of the St. Gothard Railway", published in 1881. It's probably available through Swiss libraries, but I found mine at the Harvard Bookstore. It's a fascinating account of the conditions at the time the Gotthard railroad was being built. I hope Swiss authorities will keep the line open for tourists, local traffic and as an alternate in case the new tunnel develops any problems. The original route is a testament to man's ingenuity, and entrepreneurship. Thanks for this great video. Hope to see the ride down the hill to Erstfeld very soon.

Why are Swiss Railways so clean, there's no weed infested marshaling yards or stations, or bits of rail and equipment dumped by the lineside left from engineering work. Unlike here in the UK.
Best of All! The Most Beautiful Route I ever seen. Unfortunately the memory card run out and No 4K of this nature's scenery. Please repeat it in 4K with the same sunny conditions (if the conditions could happen again)!
@@lorirocks777 One of the other train driver videographers on UA-cam (HinduCowGirl) said the other night on her chat stream that she switched lenses on her GoPro to film in 4K without the distortion. Not sure what equipment you have, but maybe that's an option? I've never used a GoPro; my camera is a decade-old Nikon DSLR that doesn't do video.
Hoping you can record this trip again with your current high standards. I rode this a couple of times in the 1990s from Milano to Zürich and it remains my ultimate rail journey…at least until I ride over Bernina!
Sobering to think the construction of the Gotthard railway tunnel cost approximately one life per 75 metres. Product of the times. Astounding engineering, as you rightly say. The whole area seems full of remarkable engineering, from that tunnel to the spiral ones and the bridges etc. Then there's the crazy motorway winding along on its concrete stilts. Then the most outrageous of all in some ways, the GBT. Imagine the conversation: Chief Engineer: We need a better railway through the mountains. Assistant Engineer: Well, I suppose we could look to expand here and....." CE: No, I mean THROUGH the mountains. AE: Err, OK, what exactly? CE: Well, look where the current one starts into the Gotthard pass. That's about 500m above sea level. Let's find somewhere North that's on an important rail route at the same elevation. Punch a hole from one to the other and we'll have a nice, level line through the mountains. AE: OK, let's see. Nope, sorry, can't find anything. CE: Nonsense. What's wrong with here? AE: THAT'S 57km AWAY!!! CE: So? LOL, makes you wonder who comes up with these things, doesn't it?
Great video. I took the same route in August 2019 (on the Gotthard Panoramic Express). It was cloudy and rainy that day. So it was nice to see the scenery I missed. Thanks.
I wonder if it’s also possible to make a video of the inside of the SIMPLON TUNNEL , another great old tunnel that connects Switzerland 🇨🇭 and Italy 🇮🇹. Theres only one other video I could find that was made over 6 years ago, but no other drivers view videos exist. Maybe it’s because that the tunnel crosses into two different countries? 🙂
Auch wenn der Speicherkartenplatz am Ende war, ist das Video sehr toll geworden, Stationsnamen werden genannt sowie Tunnel ebenfalls. Tonqualität in Stereo ist auch sehr gut zu hören. So muss das sein.

NO, it wasn't the longest, the Simplon Tunnel (Galleria del Sempione) was much longer : 19.824 m .

@@lorirocks777 One of the other train driver videographers on UA-cam (HinduCowGirl) said the other night on her chat stream that she switched lenses on her GoPro to film in 4K without the distortion. Not sure what equipment you have, but maybe that's an option? I've never used a GoPro; my camera is a decade-old Nikon DSLR that doesn't do video.

Hoping you can record this trip again with your current high standards. I rode this a couple of times in the 1990s from Milano to Zürich and it remains my ultimate rail journey…at least until I ride over Bernina!

Wonderful scenery and railway engineering - beautifully presented!
Sobering to think the construction of the Gotthard railway tunnel cost approximately one life per 75 metres. Product of the times. Astounding engineering, as you rightly say. The whole area seems full of remarkable engineering, from that tunnel to the spiral ones and the bridges etc. Then there's the crazy motorway winding along on its concrete stilts.
Then the most outrageous of all in some ways, the GBT. Imagine the conversation:
Chief Engineer: We need a better railway through the mountains.
Assistant Engineer: Well, I suppose we could look to expand here and....."
CE: No, I mean THROUGH the mountains.
AE: Err, OK, what exactly?
CE: Well, look where the current one starts into the Gotthard pass. That's about 500m above sea level. Let's find somewhere North that's on an important rail route at the same elevation. Punch a hole from one to the other and we'll have a nice, level line through the mountains.
AE: OK, let's see. Nope, sorry, can't find anything.
CE: Nonsense. What's wrong with here?
AE: THAT'S 57km AWAY!!!
CE: So?
LOL, makes you wonder who comes up with these things, doesn't it?

Great video. I took the same route in August 2019 (on the Gotthard Panoramic Express). It was cloudy and rainy that day. So it was nice to see the scenery I missed. Thanks.

I wonder if it’s also possible to make a video of the inside of the SIMPLON TUNNEL , another great old tunnel that connects Switzerland 🇨🇭 and Italy 🇮🇹. Theres only one other video I could find that was made over 6 years ago, but no other drivers view videos exist. Maybe it’s because that the tunnel crosses into two different countries? 🙂

Auch wenn der Speicherkartenplatz am Ende war, ist das Video sehr toll geworden, Stationsnamen werden genannt sowie Tunnel ebenfalls.
Tonqualität in Stereo ist auch sehr gut zu hören.
