Re not showing overtakes etc. IMHO showing these events while on a train video journey are all part of the enjoyment of the trip. I’d love to view the whole footage, stops, slowdowns, other trains included. Otherwise a well shot video. Thanks

Guten Abend, ich habe noch nicht verstanden, warum angesichts des europäischen Systems namens ETCS Level 2 die Zwergsignale geschlossen bleiben und die entsprechenden Lichter blau werden. In Italien werden sie auch in Anwesenheit des ETCS Level 2-Systems eröffnet (zum Beispiel zwischen Desio und Bivio Rosales).

Thank you for the lovely video. My aunt had a flat in the small village above the lake, Agra, and I often train spotted the cargo trains at Luino station. However it was usually quiet during daytime whereas there was more transport activity during the later hours. I parked in the car park to the left of the first level crossing getting out of Luino. Great memories. Thanks again.

An excellent cab-ride video on a fascinating route. It's no fault of anyone but a pity it wasn't a sunny day as this is one of the most beautiful parts of Europe when the sun shines. I look forward to many more videos from you.

Hint! There's this clever little trick where you enter a place name into Google Maps and up pops where you are. That's if you're a American who knows nothing of geography. Btw - Don't shout!! The answer, incidentally, is Switzerland - and, before you ask, that's in Europe. If you haven't got a mapping app available look at the train company logos on the way through Bellinzona station. They say SBB CFF FFS - that's Swiss Railways in German, French and Italian. Up there with the Dutch NS as probably the best railway system in the world - just like the Swiss chocolate! 😋

Pity that this interesting ride you didn't record with a modern camera with 4K capability.
Whoa! Try to be a bit more respectful and grateful for an interesting trip. Not everyone can afford to junk a perfectly good HD 1080p camera for a 4K model. Most of the 4K stuff anyway is shot with cameras like a GoPro which while it gives good 4K result has a rubbish lens with massive fisheye distortion. You'll see none of that in this video. Nor will you see any of the latest German fad for pixelating the image in stations so that faces can't be identified. Complete nonsense and not a legal requirement anywhere and it ruins many an otherwise good video.

Freight or passenger?
The fact that the train started and finished in a marshalling yard and by-passed Chiasso passenger station would suggest it was a passenger train.
I reckon it's a locomotive move between the 2 yards to pick up a freight train.
Correction to my comment above. I should have mentioned it was likely to be a 'freight' train.

Excellent cab View and for the Italian 3kv ohle Masts those can handle the Swiss 1.45m pantographs German and Austrian 1.95m pantographs 15kv 16.7hz wires this also occurs on the simplon tunnel where Italian 3kv poles carry 15kv AC then Branch off to Basel via Bern and Paris via Lausanne Vallorbe 25kv 50hz from Simplon Tunnel

Hello Ray, thank you very much for the nice video's. We used to take our vacations along lake Lago Maggiore. My son and I enjoyed trainspotting, stations Maccagno, Luino and Porto Valtravaglia. My son is a traindriver here in the Netherlands (Olanda) and handles freighttrains in the port of Rotterdam, bound to Busto and Gallarate. Indeed beautiful views of Lago Maggiore. The loc you are using is a Vectron, isn't it ? Hopefully you have made more of these videos, keep them coming !! Greets from the Netherlands.

The transfer from 3 kV DC to 15 kV AC happens in Luino station, therefore it is not shown in this video
Track a bit rough south of Pino but nice to see the route.
Has the statues of the line increased as a bye-pass route due to the complexities of Lugano area and the timetabling of higher speed trains and freight? I ask because of the extension of the double track at the crossing point mid route.
