  • From April 28, 1988 - Cast members of the 1960s Batman TV Show reunite for interviews on FOX's The Late Show hosted by Ross Shafer. Adam West, Burt Ward, Frank Gorshin, Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, Cesar Romero, Yvonne Craig, and Alan Napier tell stories interspersed with clips from original Batman TV shows. Taped off FOX's New York affiliate WNYC Channel 5. I left in all the original commercials.

Apparently Alan Napier was annoyed that Ross Shafer only asked him few stupid question and cut him off. They should've let Alfred to tell his stories!

Yvonne backed that and said it was "overbooked". I have to agree, it seemed like they were trying to cram too much into 1 hour, they could have easily stretched this for 3 or 4 shows. I don't think Ross was trying to be rude to Mr. Napier they just ran out of time and unfortunately he had to cut him off.

Alfred did an amazing job of keeping the Bat Cave and the Wayne mansion spotless. Napier should have been how he managed that.

Burt Ward, Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, John Astin, and more than a few others are still with us. In fact, Burt reprised the role of Dick Grayson for the big "Crisis on Infinite Earths" storyline that ran through all of the CW DC superhero shows.

Riddler yes. Joker: not really. depends on what version of Joker you need. A ledger-esque joker would not have fitted in the campy 60's Batman. Nor would the darker Nicholson Joker from 1989.

The host cut of Alan Napier in the middle of his story, which was really rude and annoyed Napier (Napier had previously had a stroke so his speech may have been a bit slow). Out of all these guys, Napier was the one who was a serious Movie actor, and he had starred in some very famous movies from the 1930s to the 1960s.

Had the pleasure of meeting both Adam West and Frank Gorshin back in the late 90s. Loved seeing them all together, but they should have just had them all come out at once at the beginning and share stories. I wish they could have gotten Burgess Meredith on there too, kind of disappointed that there was no mention of him. I also didn't like the way he would cut them off mid story.

Adam West and Burt Ward never were able to escape being type cast as Batman and Robin. The most notable non-Batman related thing Adam did years after the show went off the air was voicing Family Guy character Mayor West. Burt basically went back to the private sector. If he has acting credits after the Batman series, I have no clue what they are other than him voicing Robin in two Batman animated movies released in the 2010s. That doesn't count because those movies are an extension of the live action series.

It would have been fun if they had also had the third Catwoman actress from the TV movie episode of the series and Burgess Meredith and Cesar Romero. Also would have been fun to see the actors that played Commissioner Gordon, Chief O'Hara, Batgirl, Alfred and Robin (dick graceson's) aunt. The whole principal cast reunite would have been great fun! But this was great too!!

Ross Shafer lacked some important interviewing skills. He kept cutting off his guests and the audience just wanted to hear them talk. I'm sure he was just following cues from producers, but it was not a classy move for a variety show host. The Batman cast deserved a better interview. That said, this brought back some great memories... and the commercials made me smile.

I wouldn't say that the host "cut him off" exactly. The batphone rang. It was planned. It was a cue to introduce Julie Newmar. It was part of the production. The host had no other option but to answer the phone. Gorshin's allotted portion of the interview was over. You make it sound so nefarious.

Funny, huh? The Batman show having a Star Trek connection? 😁😉
