Great job Amina. The shiro thickens up after it is cooked so you don't have to worry too much if it's a little thin while cooking. Also, we always use a deeper sauce pan to cook shiro--less splatters on your hands and face lol and room to make more to refrigerate for later meals. You can also skip the kibe and use veggie oil--it's healthier and you can save the kibe for sega/doro/tibs etc. You can use berbere and instead, dice up the jalapenos with some tomatoes, karia, onions with a dash of salt and splash of lemon juice, a little vinegar and drizzle of veggie oil for a great side dish--it goes really well with shiro and it's fast and easy. Next meal---mesir? l got your back anytime if you need a recipe.

I'm excited to try this - I brought some shiro powder back from Eritrea in December and an Ethiopian friend recommended I watch your video. Two quick questions: 1) what spices are in the kibbeh, and can you use just regular butter? 2) does it matter if you use a red or a white onion?
You can use salted butter and no I don't think it matters but red onions will work well

Shanelle P the powder is better to buy from a local Ethiopian store or if not than you can find it online. The butter has a lot of different spices in it I would also recommend to buy it but if you can’t there’s a few recipes online let me know I can send them to you!!

I love when y'all post! I seriously hope you all get to where this can be your full time job (if you all would want that). Also, is it even worth it to try to learn Amharic? Like is that even possible? Wanting to start attending Ethiopian Tewahedo Orthodox churches and I would like to be able to respond where appropriate.
Candee Zarah Thank you so much! Elias said that anyone can learn Amharic within 3 months if they’re truly dedicated. It’s definitely possible! There were so many foreigners in Ethiopia that spoke fluent Amharic. I think you can do it ❤️
