Thank you for watching!! I have a lot of pedals but the only ones I collect are old USA DOD and Black Arts Toneworks. Even though I've sold a few that I regret.
@@deuceii9498 if you haven't checked out Tom Cram's (DOD) Spiral pedals, you might enjoy them, also. I currently have three of his custom works, love em all. I am a fan of Mark's (BAT) creations, too. Have nine, currently, play them regularly. Black Forest is at the head of my chain.
@@deuceii9498Love Mark's BAT pedals! Have several that I play regularly; Black Forest leads the charge at the head on my chain. You might also enjoy Tom Cram's (formerly of DOD) Spiral Electric FX pedals. Have three of his on my board, love em all.
Thanks for watching! I meant to comment on your question sooner, sorry for the delayed response. As far as I've been able to tell, Matt has changed up his boost/distortion/fuzz pedals on a semi regular basis. I know that at one point, he was using the Pharaoh as his main fuzz but that was many years ago (per BAT themselves in online forums). I don't know how much he uses the RM, but I think the DOD250 into dirty/breakup amps was more Mike from YOB's thing (Quantum Mystic is a refined Ross Distortion, similar circuit to the DOD250, and Mike was using a Marshall Plexi clone(? or original/reissue?) at the time IIRC. Don't quote me on any of this, I don't know either of them personally!
Thanks for watching! I recently put the Priestess on my recording pedalboard, but then replaced it with a Pharaoh Civil War version. So I guess I'd say Pharaoh? Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any of the BAT variants. I just got a Pharaoh Supreme and haven't had time to properly compare it to my Son of Pharaoh or my Pharaoh Civil War, but should probably post a video of them all when I do get to making a comparison.
I used to have their Coven double pedal with the Black Forest on one side and Pharaoh on the other, and they were indeed very good together. I didn't use the Black Forest much on it's own, though. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I was wondering, I've got a Rabid Mammal and I want to get either a Quantum Mystic or Raw Heart OD. Is the boost side of the Rabid Mammal the same as the Witch Burner side of the Raw Heart?
Thanks for watching! No, the boost side of the Rabid Mammal and the Raw Heart are very different to my ears. I ran them through my Marshall side by side and they really don't have a lot of cross over sounds between the two pedals. You could have a lot of boost/gain/fuzz options with those two together.
Hi I'm really curious about the pharoah. I'm looking for modern tone. Is pharoah modern sounding? Thanks BTW. I noticed you have a daisy chain power source. I recently bought a Cioks DC7 from gear hero and all my pedals sound better with isolated power. Try it out sometime. I think you'll like it
Thanks for watching! I'd say the Pharoah is a modern take on the big muff/doom type sound. Is it modern metal? Not really. But modern doom/sludge? Yes. I only use the daisy chain when I'm doing these types of pedal comparisons, it's far easier to set them up quickly. My pedalboard has a Voodoo Labs PP2+ power supply. But thanks for the recommendation.
Thanks for watching! I think the Pharaoh and the Priestess overlap a bit in that they're both great doom/sludge/stoner fuzz pedals, but they are different enough that I think they're both worth having.
That was reportedly an op-amp based Big Muff, and the Black Arts line op-amp muff is the Crown of Horns. That one has a different tone than the various Pharaoh pedals. It would be my suggestion over all the ones in this video.
@@deuceii9498 thanks! crown of horns is it more like a standard Op Amp Muff, or like an Op Amp "Pharaoh"? (talking about mids or stack well, for example)
@@algarridm I'd say it's more of a Pharaoh Op Amp, if I remember right there's a mids switch on it that can make it more scooped when disengages. There's also two buttons, one of which defeats the tone stack just like on the Op Amp big muffs.
@@algarridm it's definitely like an op-anp Pharaoh with a huge boost. I have both the Pharaoh and the COH. The COH has a mids knob though and with it at zero it sounds similar to the original op amp muff that was on SD. I think it's way better than an original op amp muff. Has the Pharoah tone stack as far as I know, which makes it sound a bit thicker than an original op amp muff. I actually have an original op amp muff, not the reissue, and it does sound beautiful and creamy compared to other muffs. But it kind of gets lost in the mix on its own. It also doesn't have a true bypass so it sort of passively boosts everything else on your board lol. Makes everything sound a bit louder and noisier, though I kind of like that haha.
Thanks for this review. I have zero fuzz pedals, but wanted to get one that has the most tonal options and was looking at the rabid mammal, plus I just like Mr. Pikes tone, but wondered what your opinion would be for a BAT pedal? I have a super high gain amp and a tc pre amp and tube screamer already too to boost if I’d like. Any help would be awesome!
Thanks for watching! I've thought about your question and gone back to play through both pedals side by side. I'd say the Raw Heart has less gain on both sides, and is more like an overdrive/distortion, but the Rabid Mammal is way more fuzz based and has a lot more gain overall. The Raw Heart has a bit "cleaner/clearer" EQ, the Rabid Mammal is thicker/fatter overall. Both pedals have a lot of tonal options, and can get a wide variety of tones. If you want to get more into fuzz territory, then Rabid Mammal would be better and I think it would sound more different from your other pedals/amp. Hope that helps!
@@deuceii9498 thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate your time that you took to help me. With what you’ve said, I’m going with the Rabid Mammal🙌
Awesome demo man, well done. Personally I don’t think you can go wrong with anything from BAT. But if I had to pick only one to sit on my board, it would be the Raw Heart. It just stacks so well with other pedals, especially fuzz pedals. It’s so clear and articulate (relatively speaking), and really cuts through in a band setting. Also helps that I’m a huge Yob fan haha
I've been lurking videos featuring BAT pedals. I'd love to hear the Priestess and Quantum Mystic together. Nice video!

Does Matt use the RM (or whatever its based on)? I thought he just used a dod250 into dirty SLOs?

The Pharoah Supreme is the best fuzz pedal ever imo. The Pharaoh Is Supreme. Long. Live. The. Pharaoh.
Thanks for sharing :)
Which one is your favourite? I cant decide between the Priestess and the Pharaoh.
If you ever get their Black Forest pedal, it works wonders with a Big Muff, so I assume it would also go great with the Pharaoh/Priestess
