The video is clipped from a 1930 futuristic film by Fritz Lang called "Metropolis" which is a work of art. It has been lovingly restored. Yes it scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid. HAPPY NEW YEAR
So much of modern day "future" comes from Metropolis.. Blade Runner, Coruscant (Star Wars), Frankenstein, Dr. Strangeglove, etc. It's so underappreciated.
When I first got a VCR in 1985, my father made fun of me for buying a VHS tape of a *silent* *black and white* movie. But, I said to him, "Metropolis" is a classic!
As a HUGE Sci-Fi enthusiast, as a kid, I LOVED this song!! Not b/c of the depressing lyrics, but how they speculated the future as a message for humanity to pay attention. Maybe I was always an "old-soul", but this song stuck with me for many years as something to take serious note of. Anyway, I'm glad you reacted to this Zagger and Evans song. I still love it!!
They were wrong about that. There have always been people working to put back and preserve parts of this world, and as the world progresses, they are learning how to do it better. They question is: Will they learn to replace enough to make up for what others have destroyed?
Thanks so much. I'm 73 and when that song came out I was a teenager. At the time I thought, "No way. What a crock." Listening to it tonight to it, wow, they nailed it. Thank you
Bill, I'm 68 and listened to this song recently after not hearing it for several years. It just about terrified me hearing it again. So prophetic. We oldsters and the younger citizens of Earth really need to pay attention to what we're doing to her. Peace.
@@KarenMcGehee I look at the song more from the prospective of a Christian and how we have made technology our god rather than The Living God of The Bible.
(Rick) Evans, who was a science fiction fan, actually developed the song while he was driving in Missouri in 1965. He ended up stopping and actually wrote all the lyrics in about half an hour. He figured it would never sell, but when he and Zager had played one gig for four hours, they were running out of songs. They started singing this and the crowd responded. They recorded it on their own and were selling it out of a station wagon. Someone sent it to multiple record companies who started bidding to sign them to a recording contract.
Damn. That's a lot of instrumental and tracks. Who knew. But it sounds very sophisticated, many track layers, and the record label evidently offered a well equipped studio to produce it.
I know they recorded it in a small studio in Odessa Texas. My office was across the street from this very small one man studio. I took a UPS package that was left at my office for him and when I took it to him the record was on the wall and framed stories about the song and artists and he told me the story.
George Orwell's books 1984 and Animal Farm were considered cautionary fiction when we studied them in school back in the early 70's, however they seem to have become instruction manuals for today's government. Two of the most important books I ever read and studied. Thank you two. I always enjoy watching your reactions from here in TEXAS.
In addition to those books, also Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Those, along with Orwell's books, were insightful in a disturbing way.
You’re right! Prophetic and Profound! Now they both have been banned from our education system! Wonder why? They foretell the future that they don’t want us to know, much like the threats of the former USSR in the late 1950’s! The weren’t books weren’t required reading for me, I was exempt from Senior English. I did read both while in college and reread them when my oldest son was a Senior in high school. Other suggested reading, although banned, are “The Taming of the Shrew” and “Romeo and Juliet” which are far beneath the authenticity projected by politicians! Maybe our government should consider what Bible they’re thumping as “Song of Solomon” is more telling of the union of two and with God than either of both Shakespeare’s works! Obviously they AREN’T reading their Bibles…if they even own one! Our government will bring in precisely what is spoken in this tune!!! Excellent choices!
@@jodyjackson5475 thankfully, Amazon still sells both, along with the “Complete Works of William Shakespeare” and “The Catcher in the Rye” by JD Salinger. All banned but, for now, we have access. I have all of them in hardback but I wonder when my home will be raided. Regardless, I don’t care if I’m raided, although under our Constitutional rights, specifically Amendment 14, they can’t raid without a warrant in hand. What they, so far, can’t do is erase our memories…yet! What most forget, going back to “1984” Orwell, everything we own has cameras. I was recently watching Rachel Maddow as MSNBC covered a political debate. She specifically said that we’d be able to watch the entire debate. What truly bothered me was Maddow’s statement, “We can watch you too.”! Frightening! Totalitarianism isn’t as far away as most think!
The song was #1 at the time of the first moon landing. It's also the ultimate American one hit wonder... longer at #1 and they never had a song appear on any other US chart ever, partly because their followup "Mr. Turnkey"... a first-person confession of a rapist who commits suicide by crucifying himself in his jail cell!
"maybe it's only yesterday" The line erases all of the years and brings it back to the present and what the much nearer future holds. Brilliant lyrics, Happy New Year folk, looking forward to a bright 24.
The UA-cam video images here are from a 1927 silent film, "Metropolis," directed by Fritz Lang. I first heard the 1969 song as a young teen (age 12 or 13) when it was first released and was played on the radio a lot. I have always liked it; It was, sadly, Zager and Evans' only major hit, as far as I know. The prophecies do seem EERILY closer now than in 1969..
This is kind of curious. I just Googled "Metropolis" and saw the following description showing that Lang was a little off in his time calculation: "Directed by Fritz Lang and his wife, Thea von Harbou, "Metropolis" takes place in the year 2000 in the mythical setting of Metropolis. This German story is a utopic vision of a Marxist society that goes too far." So in 1927 Lang was envisioning the year 2000--when in actual history America became scared the world would shut down due to a computer virus. I posted about this last night (including this UA-cam clip) on my Facebook page, which I rarely use these days! When I was a kid (turned 13 in 1969) I figured that by 2024 we'd have flying cars, etc., like the Jetsons TV cartoon show I used to watch. My FB post jokingly said "I wonder if the Y2K virus is 24 years late."
The story is meant to be mythological, meaning it doesn’t speak to a specific time or place or political agenda. Thea Von Harbou opens the book with “ this book is not of today or of the future. It tells of no place. It serves no cause, party, or class. It has a moral which grows on the pillar of understanding. The mediator between brain and muscle must be the heart” The book provides a far deeper insight into its concerns. There is a deeply religious element not in the movie, as well as a characters that provide greater clues. It’s a story about the existential crisis posed by modernity and technological mediation of human affairs, and the threat to both the human body and soul posed by a hyper materialistic technological system.
@@pat1cust2 The Y2K scare had nothing to do with a virus. It was shortsighted design. In early computers, memory was expensive, so to conserve space a lot of databases recorded dates with only two digits for the year, assuming that all years begin with "19." When the year 2000 approached, everyone realized that this would no longer work. Many programmers (myself included) spent the last few years of the nineties rewriting software and rebuilding databases so that the systems would recognize "01/01/00" as 2000 and not 1900. Imagine what your bank statement would have looked like in 2000 if the computers said that all of your recent deposits won't happen until 99 years in the future.
A lot of young people call us "Boomers" meaning that in a derogatory sense. Go ahead, please call us that. We take it as a COMPLIMENT. After all, we had the best music, the best cars, the best economy, the best jobs and pensions, the best food, well, actually, the best of EVERYTHING.
Actually brought me to tears hearing this again after so many years. "In the year seventy-five ten If god's a-comin' he oughta make it by then..." Killer irony. Rough and ready, but it's real, a strong idea, moving, thought provoking, good tune. Classic.
It's such a great song. I'm 62, and I remember hearing this as a kid and thinking about what they were saying. Talking about picking your son or daughters from a long glass tube. The first test tube baby was born in 1978. So that's a prediction from the song that just happened a lot sooner.
The ending line "so very far away, maybe it's only yesterday" covers the fact that many of these predictions will come true before the year that is stated.
I was a kid when this came out and have brought it up in several online chats because of how much of the lyrics have come true. Amber, your facial expressions throughout this video brought tears to my eyes as I saw you realizing what I have been seeing. I pray you guys have a personal relationship with the Lord. Much love to you both.
As someone that was alive and listening to this song when it came out, you have to remember that great changes were happening to the world then, just as you were discussing changes now. I really liked this tune when it came out and then really listened to the lyrics and became a very deep thinker because of it. By the way, the Zager half of this duo, has his company, Zager Guitars, that make some of the finest acoustic guitars available. The guitars are hand built masterpieces.
The video is footage from a groundbreaking movie called Metropolis. This sci-fi movie has a wonderful history. It preceded the creation scene in 1931 Frankenstein. People have pointed to the robot as having inspired C-3PO’s design in Star Wars. It’s still a powerful message in the movie for our times today. For a long time, it was presumed that much of the trimmed footage in this German film that had been excised for the American release was lost forever. A copy with less resolution was discovered and well preserved in South America. Kino has released a blu-ray of this movie with the missing footage put back in.
What timing. I just introduced my wife the Metropolis this evening. For those unfamiliar, it is silent film from 1926, and is widely acknowledged as the very first science fiction movie.
I inherited a book from my parents, dated 1956, which describes in detail the history of films of that area. As a kid I loved to go through it, as it has a lot of photos of the films. It starts with the very first movies in history (mostly German films) and covers of course the making of Metropolis. The young lady we see is 16 year old Brigitte Helm. The film shows the imaginary year 2000!
@visionaryventures12 Thanks for the comment. I was going to write something simular. The music in the DVD is not the original music from Metropolis. In the silent movie area it had life music and the original score from 1927 is mostly lost.
One-hit-wonders, Rick Evans actually wrote this around '64 but it didn't get recorded until '68. It was #1 in US and UK in '69, and they have the distinction of being the only group to hit #1 on both charts and never chart again. Denny Zager has been building custom acoustic guitars since 1969 - I have one, and it is very high quality!
I know they market their guitars as being easier to play somehow. I have my D-28 that I bought new in 1976, but my left hand is getting weak from some mysterious ailment. Is there really anything about Zager that makes fretting easier or is that not your experience? Thanks a lot. Cheers!
@@dggydddy59 Yeah, I pulled a tendon in my L hand/thumb 3+ years ago, plus the arthritis w/age actually made me go get a guitar to help regain some finger strength - compared to my Fender mahogany electric/acoustic the Zager is a bit easier to play - it's the spacing of the strings as well as custom strings are easier on the fingertips - but the sound is way superior (mahogany is more for jazz tones and spruce is more crystal clear, so it's a bit like apples to oranges in that regard). If you can get a Zager on sale, i'd recommend it.
I remember this song from my childhood and even as a kid, I thought it was a bit of a warning to mankind…that we need to ‘be better’. Oh how that thought is amplified in our current time.
How come they didn't recorded it till 68 and why was the song held back a year? If iit wasn't a whole year it was probably close since 2525 was released in the summer of 69.
Yes, I remember this movie extremely well, I was 13 when I watched it with my mother. I refer to it often, more so today. $365.00 for a trail size jar of strawberry jam‼️
And of course when this song was written there were no home computers or even computers in the workplace with the very few exceptions where the computer took up a whole room! Written 6 years before Microsoft was even founded! It's amazingly accurate in some of the 'predictions' although they thought they would happen later than they actually have. It does make you wonder where man is heading as we rely more and more on a machine to do everything for us. Great reaction guys - and a happy new year to you and your family. ❤
@@bartstarr100 Babies gender selected, and even you had to have heard of test tube babies. Spend some time watching people exit buildings with their cell phones.
And for your movie review, the scenes in this video were taken from an actual silent B/W movie called "Metropolis", 1926 and 115 min. long by director Fritz Lang. And had many messages in it, like workers in the future being slaves to the time clock. As for the song, some of us, me included, counted this as one of our protest songs. Even to this day, I keep it in my "protest" play list. Which is 99% from the 60's and 70's. Because they just don't write protest songs like they used to. So, I guess I should end it with lingo from my baby boom generation, "down with the man, baby. Up with the revolution, can you dig it daddy-o. Of course, you do, only cool cats in this joint".
The movie has now been restored to 155 minutes, the most complete it has ever been, and it NOW MAKES SENSE!!! So many times I watched seriously abridged versions, fascinated by it as I wondered "What's happening?" Now I understand.....
Like the song indicated, it's crazy how fast man is nventing all manner of things and just pushing it on society without their permission and have no responsibility for the ramifications of their actions.
@@saturnnet1627 Yup! It always gets me as well, computers weren't known by then. Yet they predicted AI. That's the one that blew my mind and the pill to tell you what to think. That government mind control, it was known even back then, and some are still falling for it. This song is a warning to everyone. I agree - Man moved too fast, and its going to blow back in their faces unfortunately.
Jay and Amber, Eve of Destruction is THE anti-war song. The local radio station in my conservative city banned it, but I had the record. ( I think it's still upstairs in a box, lol)
Oh wow. This song was from my generation. I loved the musical arrangement, and the singing. At the time I thought the words were so bizarre. The writer of this song was either psychic or had a crystal ball.
Great reaction again, guys... This song is pretty deep and makes you think doesn't it ?... It captured everybody's attention when it came out... It made an entire generation stop and think for a few minutes... Good job guys... See you on the next one... Keep being awesome !!!...
I was ten when I ear this song; ten years after I understood the lyrics (my mother langage is not english)...... I spend my life and most of these predictions became true...; this is an amazing song! Thank you four your reaction....👍👍
This was the song my husband and I liked. I first used a computer in 1968. Now I am old a widow and my health is deteriorating but I understand what this song is about and the film metropolis was a brilliant silent movie with its Sci fi angle I will never forget this song from 1969.
I always loved this song and its message. I’ve lived in the simpler times and while it’s been an exciting time to live I do long for the simpler days! Glad you checked this one out….Happy New Year and pray all good things for you and yours in ‘24!
When this was new I thought it was just fantasy. Now I’ve lived long enough to see most of it come true. Truth is stranger than fiction. Much love ❤️ Happy New Year 🎈🎊
Fabulous choice in listening to this one. I clearly remember this when it came out in 1969. I love how Amber looked close to tears during the song. One interesting fact: this was the ONLY song Zager and Evans had that made it.
I remember as a grade-school poet, then later as a budding, amateur songwriter finding this song to be the fascinating and philosophical kind of music that attracted me to the arts.
For some reason, where I'm from they used to play this song on the radio all the time in the early 80s - I recall being 6 or so, and being fascinated by the sound of the song, and the talk of a distant future, without really knowing what any of the lyrics meant. Only a couple of year or so ago it popped into my head and I decided to look up the lyrics, and was like "...uhhhh...." similar reaction to what you both had, just crazy how they nailed so much of what we are going through/about to go through. If man is alive/woman can survive indeed.
I heard this song as a child and it haunts me to this day...One of my favorite songs of all time...today I only think its because of nostalgia that it awe inspires me but it is very catchy and just weird
The video part of this is from a 1930 German Silent-movie called "Metropolis". Whoever paid it up with this song is an absolute genius. When I was little, this song scared the mess out of me. The video makes it ten times more disturbing. I love that genre of film-making!
Yes. As a kid, this song scared me too. I didn't want to think about so many negative possibilities in the future. But the song was (is) prophetic, no denying it! Great reaction, Amber and Jay!
As i listen to this song, thinking about the time it came out..We would just groove to the sound As time went on and seeing how things have changed always brings ny mind back to 69....So many things have already came true..In my day we didn't have computers or any such things..But i would go back to that in a heartbeat.. Thank you much. God Bless..
Watching Amber's face, I just love it when you so obviously "get it"... the point of the song is not lost on you. 2023 was great in part because of your channel, and I'm sure 2024 will be terrific too.
Yeah, Amber always gets the point of the song because she is genuinely engaged and curious in wanting to know, but she also knows how important it is to the viewers that a reactor gets the point of the song. She's the best song reactor on UA-cam.
This song freaks people out, not only because of the things it predicted, but just thinking about the Earth centuries from now.. heck, many millennia. This spent 6 weeks at #1 in 1969, so it was huge!
This song definitely stays with you, most songs you listen and forget about them but this one has a special meaning to "what has man done" in the 10,000 yrs we have been here.
Loved your reaction to this song. It was huge when it came out for many reasons. First the sonic atmosphere makes hairs on your ears stand up and grabs you immediately. Secondly, lyrically, if oracles could sing ... BOOM !!! The song actually had a second wind in the late 70's as FM exploded and played older songs as well as current.
I was 6 in 1969 and this song was number 1 that summer. My mom drove us to the beach that summer and this song was playing all the time. One of my favorites of all time. It is scary to see how much of this has come true. I miss how much easier things were back then .
I must admit I have always loved this song since I first heard it in the mid 70's and I feel it is extremely prophetic however it is clearly well behind where we are already in some of the predictions. Especially when you consider the part about picking your son or daughter from the bottom of a long glass tube as that happened In 1978 if memory serves me right with the first test tube baby! She was called Louise Brown, I remember that and was created by Dr Patrick Steptoe using IVF here in the UK!
Amber's reaction was so interesting...Start of song, she tried to get into it... Near end of song, never saw her looked more depressed..........um. EXCELLENT REACTION.
My senior year in high school (1969/1970) we had a new principal. He was young and wanted to be relevant with the students. 2525 was a big hit and he referenced this song in EVER assembly. The second half of the year I had him as teacher for an elected class. He brought up this song repeatedly. He kept referring many of us would be alive in the year 2525. We all were confused. Finally one student asked if he meant 2025? The look on his face was priceless. It dawned on him of the big mistake he had used that whole year that he confused these two years. LOL
One of the coolest late 60's one hit wonders from Zager & Evans. It was slightly controversial back then, but shocking and hauntingly relevant right now (thankfully not to the degree the song suggests - yet.) Another great reaction from you guys. You always surprise me with your selections, and this is one of those times - keep 'em coming!
When this song came out the two thousands were a distant reality. Of course we had shows likw Star Trek, Lost in Space and The Jetsons on TV set in the distant future.
I heard this maybe in the late 60's, and it sent a shiver down my spine then and still does. Watching both of you change the expressions on your faces as the song played said everything and I felt that strange chill.
Happy New Year, Jay and Amber. Great reaction to start 2024. So glad you used the "Metropolis" video. If you get the chance to see the film, do it. The line of "...you'll pick your sons and your daughters too, at the end of a long glass tube..." was also prophetic since when 'test tube babies' was still only in theory when it came out.
I was, like, almost 11 when this was released and I first heard it on the radio. I still remember the eerie mindset it created, even at such a young age, during that first listen all those decades ago. Love it!
Yes. A one hit wonder. But Denny Zager came back to Lincoln Nebraska and started a custom guitar business. He is renowned for his acoustic guitars. Especially 12 string guitars. I own one.
When this song came out, it was a simpler time. We all saw this as we'd see a science fiction movie or something. Hearing it in today's world, look at how much we now relate to it. It really is creepy. I noutht that 45 when it came out, BTW. We thought it was fun. Happy New Year Amber and Jay!😊
I was only 10 years old when this took the music world by storm. Everyone was talking about it and I recall it as one of the most significant songs from my childhood.
It’s even more amazing when you realize ‘In the Year 2525’ was written in 1964-5 years before it became a hit. The line about not needing husbands or wives because children will be conceived in test tubes was especially prophetic, I thought. (Even though the song said it wouldn’t happen until 6565, the first in vitro baby was born in 1978.) Another song that spans time is the song ‘100 Years’ by Five for Fighting. It’s a sweeter song with a message to just enjoy the moment that you’re in. Happy New Year!!!
I was born in 1980, but grew up listening to all the pop, rock, and Motown hits from the 50s and 60s, thanks to my parents and their vinyl collection. I always thought this song was silly as a kid, but it's far more prophetic than I ever gave it credit for back then.
I love love love this song. I remember my mum & dad playing this when I was a kid ( back in the 70s I was about 10). So powerful & thought provoking to where we could be heading 🤔❤️💖
Wow did not realize that you guys have not reacted to this song yet. And a another banger from Amber's favorite time of music, the late 60's and early 70's. I personally love this song. It is thought-provoking and has some deep meaning to it.
*YESSSSS!!!!!!!* Finally!!! So happy to know that you guys totally got this! If you want a bit of weird trivia... 2023 was the year that George Jetson was born. "The Jetsons" show was created in 1962 and the year they lived in was 2062. Let THAT sink in!!!
This song came out the year I graduated from HS, 1969. We thought the lyrics were very cool and thought provoking. Hearing it as I enter my 73rd year brings back some great memories of my youth.
I've heard this song many times before and understand what it's about, but your reaction and discussion afterwards really made me think about the meaning more than any other time I've listened to it because I was thinking about it through y'all's perception as first-time listeners. Thank you!
You’re absolutely right, it was the theme with some alternate lyrics (In the year 2525, three women with the will to survive). Very quirky Sci-fi, but the three lead actresses on the show were why we watched.
I had to scroll to find it- but here are my people!!! @Rob Squad Reactions you ought to consider doing a series of TV show reactions! Cleopatra 2525 was awesome!
Hey ya'll, thanks for playing this one. I grew up on all the terrific and awesome music you react to. Fun to watch your comments and surprises along the way. As for this song, it's amazing how it struck people even back in the 60s. I only knew one of my grandparents. I watched my grandfather feel the words this group had to offer him. He was a very quiet man and hardly ever spoke to anyone but this one hit home for him. I remember him weeping afterwards. Humanity. Strange what music does to people. I'll never forget that moment we had because of this one blink of an eye. Again, thanks so much for sharing all you do.

Yep, I firmly believe that AI will be our demise. I'm so glad you listened to this song from my teen years. Very prophetic. Did you catch the end of the song where he says "so very far away, maybe it's only yesterday"? I often wonder if mankind hasn't gone down this road before & had to start from scratch. I still have my dad’s 45 of this. Nothing like hearing those old cracks and pops of vinyl.
I still have my 45 too!

Books are an endangered item these days
In addition to those books, also Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Those, along with Orwell's books, were insightful in a disturbing way.
GovernmentS
Absolutely loved this song when I was a teenager in the 70's! I know you guys will love it too! 👍💯✌🇨🇦
-yaay- ! 🤘
This song came out in 1969
The song was #1 at the time of the first moon landing.
Happy New Year and glad you're still here with music nostalgia (in this case, futurist retro.😀)
The mediator between brain and muscle must be the heart”
The book provides a far deeper insight into its concerns.
Seems closer, but none of this has happened except in movies.
👏👏👏👏spot on !
How about those boomers.lol ye ha.
True
Yeah you did, then when you got what you wanted from it, you and your kids pulled the ladder up so everyone else couldnt have the same chances.
Amen!
Actually brought me to tears hearing this again after so many years.
"In the year seventy-five ten
If god's a-comin' he oughta make it by then..."
Killer irony.
You mean when an infertile couple got artificially pregnant like we have been doing with animals before 1964. Nothing was new about this.
The ending line "so very far away, maybe it's only yesterday" covers the fact that many of these predictions will come true before the year that is stated.
True classic with a message that's still relevant
More and more relevant as each year passes.
Yes it is!
More than ever. Similar to the movie Idiocracy.
They were decades ahead of their time. This song never fails to give me the chills. Thanks for covering it.
A MUST HEAR,, From A great vocalist & SAXOPHONE master,, Junior Walker & The All Stars "What Does It Take"..A Soul/R&B Classic.❤
One of the best Still have the 45.
Yep. I'm currently pickin' on a signed 80CE !
@visionaryventures12
Thanks for the comment. I was going to write something simular.
The music in the DVD is not the original music from Metropolis. In the silent movie area it had life music and the original score from 1927 is mostly lost.
I had seen metropolis some time ago and would love to see the missing footage.
Heavy, heavy hitter in 1969...5 weeks topping top 40. Still an eerie song. So much turmoil during these times.
I got one as well, it's a beauty and plays very well. He knows very well what he is doing when it comes to acoustic guitars.
Brilliant song! Way ahead of its time .. happy new year to you both from England 🥳
Yup,… the sixties. So many songs had messages and meanings. What an era in which to grow up!
There was a lot of songs of protests back then.
Video is not from the 60s but great use of "Metropolis" footage to go with the song. This was a big hit way back when 🤘🏻
Your facial expressions said it all. You can't hear this one without being shaken.
This song reminds me of an ABSOLUTE MUST SEE Classic Movie,, "Soylent Green"
(1973)..Set in the future,, The accuracy of it is scary.
Yes, I remember this movie extremely well, I was 13 when I watched it with my mother. I refer to it often, more so today. $365.00 for a trail size jar of strawberry jam‼️
And the movie, "Idiocracy."
Charlton Heston?
You should review Soylent Green on a Tuesday.
@@paulthompson4545 Yes.
Thanks, you made my comment for me. ✌️
Was actually written in 1964 so even longer pre Microsoft. It just wasn’t released as a single until 1969
It's a little scary that they've happened earlier. 😬
Name one prediction they made that has come true?
@@bartstarr100 Babies gender selected, and even you had to have heard of test tube babies. Spend some time watching people exit buildings with their cell phones.
An absolute classic that we all knew growing up in the 1960’s!My brother had the 45rpm single record! Loved it then and now!
so did i lots o 45's
Their insight was SCARY! Such a great song.
THIS SONG CAME OUT ON July 12, 1969. I WAS 12.🖤💜🤎❤💛💔💔💔.
Did you watch the moon landing, like we did?
I was 14 and had my first boyfriend.
This a banger 🔥 needs to play Barry McGuire Eve of Destruction
A VietNam Era song...Gold!
Jay and Amber, Eve of Destruction is THE anti-war song. The local radio station in my conservative city banned it, but I had the record. ( I think it's still upstairs in a box, lol)
Oh man! Yes. In fact I think I will listen to it now.
@@bryanwhitton1784YES. Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire. That 45 rpm was at my house. B side was The Dawn of Correction. LOL
Have always loved this song. Never gets old. Maybe a little scarier,,,,,
I always loved this song and its message.
Yep, I'm old. I remember all the lyrics to this one. Also love all the old Fritz Lang "Metropolis" footage.
This song is so prophetic, I for instance was created in a long glass tube.
Too much info ℹ️
Yes! Great reaction by Amber at around 4:40 and after.
Yeah, Amber always gets the point of the song because she is genuinely engaged and curious in wanting to know, but she also knows how important it is to the viewers that a reactor gets the point of the song. She's the best song reactor on UA-cam.
A profound way to start off the new year, great song!
I remember when this song first came on the radio. Still sounded as good today as it did back then Good music is timeless
I loved this song when I was young many years ago. Great memories flood back when hearing this.
I've always loved this song, and it does seem that the lyrics are prophetic with what is happening with the world today.
I remember this, I don’t think the majority of people gave it much thought back then, but most people liked this song.👍♥️♥️
I own one.
I have a Zager six-string and I really want one of his 12s. They're excellent.
Another song I’d almost forgot. Catchy tune, which is why it can be hard to get out of your mind after you hear it. Enjoyed your reactions!
Happy New Year 🎆🎇 oh the memories this song brings back !
I was a newborn baby in late 1969 when this song was a huge hit. Not bad for some guys from Nebraska!
(I'm a proud Nebraskan, too!)
A tune of my young youth!
I love love love this song. I remember my mum & dad playing this when I was a kid ( back in the 70s I was about 10).
So powerful & thought provoking to where we could be heading 🤔❤️💖
One of the biggest hits of 1969, six weeks at number one
I was 4 or 5 years old when this song was released. I remember it being played a lot on the radio. I always like it too! 🤯🫠😭
Wow did not realize that you guys have not reacted to this song yet. And a another banger from Amber's favorite time of music, the late 60's and early 70's. I personally love this song. It is thought-provoking and has some deep meaning to it.
Y'all, that was a great reaction!
The very look in y'alls eyes was so telling of what you were hearing.
Hell Yeah Y'all and Happy New Year...
I watched that cartoon for years and never knew that.
Love your show. This song came out before we went to the moon. We are not making machines...they are making us.
very cool song. Always loved it. What a vibe
Thank you!
Great song, which was a theme song for a great TV show. Cleopatra 2525....can't convince me otherwise!
Great reaction. This song never fails to give me chills by the end.
Jay and Amber, if you thought those lyrics from the 1960s were futuristic and ahead of its time, those scenes in the video were from a 1927 German silent film called "Metropolis" regarded as one of the first full length Sci-Fi films.
I have this on my playlist. Been rocking this for years. Sooo erie!
Happy New Year to Our Rob Squad💖‼️🎉 This is one of my TOP favorites, awesome song‼️ How did they know ‼️
I remember when this was new on the radio, haunting song. still one of my fav "you never here this anymore" songs
A one-hit wonder, much like another hit from that year that brings plenty of horns and is definitely a wedding and anniversary favorite: "More Today Than Yesterday" by The Spiral Starecase.
Been recommending this song for over a year. Wish they would react to it!!
It will be a favorite for Amber if they haven't already done it.
Again, for many of us, we were listening to the awesome sci-fi song. Still resonates childhood memories.
Something to ponder. But enough doom & gloom. Happy New Year to you guys! Can't wait to see what tunes you react to this year. Still thousands of them for you to discover! Love you guys!!
God will shake his mighty head. Gives me goosebumps everytime.
