the fact that you can manage to talk for 30 min a day during the offseason is straight up impressive bro. podcasting isn't for everyone. and you rarely repeat yourself a bunch of times in an episode. good for you man
@@dashx1103 I understand and I didn’t forget, but the thing is they aren’t as good this year as they were last year. They don’t have Manaea and Severino who unexpectedly turned out to be stars. I was being facetious about them finishing in third because the Phillies were ahead of them, and the Braves almost were ahead of them, but ended up even. So basically two teams were either just as good or better than them. Now the Braves have their full roster back after basically the entire team was out last year You can’t bank on Montas and Holmes, or even a Senga because he is still a question mark at this time, after not pitching for a whole year
wish they had given Lugo the chance to be a starter that he always wanted. He went to the Padres and was good, (which was entirely predictable) and then to the Royals where he became a star. (which was a surprise) Should have let him try to be a back of rotation for the Mets
I love senga and still believe he can be a number 1 guy. Health is just what im worried about. Getting another front line guy gives more certainty should senga not be that guy
Kodai Senga, David Peterson and Frankie Montas are guys I trust. Tylor Megill, Paul Blackburn and clay Holmes are not guys that I trust. I’m really praying we get Sean Manaea and another bonafide front of the line guy. Clay Holmes gets a chance but hopefully that chance is for a six man. If we want to compete with the dodgers, we need to take the 1-2 punch seriously. Leave butto in the bullpen and truthfully, I never want to see megill start a game again. He fairs better in the pen also
When it comes to Ace criteria, I think WHIP (Walks + Hits / Innings Pitched, or baserunners per inning) is more consistent and predictive than ERA. Sequencing and LOB have a lot to do with ERA but WHIP essentially takes it batter by batter. A WHIP under 1.00 is elite and 1.10 is very good. Last year, 4 pitchers were under 1.00: Gilbert, Skubal, Wheeler and Bryce Miller (2 Seattle guys!). Another 11 were under 1.10, including Sale, Manaea, Cease, Imanaga and yet another Mariner, George Kirby. Your guy Luis Castillo is at 1.08, 1.10, and 1.17 the last 3 seasons, so I'm worried about his best years being behind him. I think he continues to trend down.
Good stuff, Ryan! Sasaki solves the rotation for years but is likely a long shot 🤞🏻 I like your Manaea deal and/or a Buehler signing. I'm warming up to a Bregman signing over, bringing back Alonso. Pairing that w a Baty and/or R. Clifford, or less ideal, D. Gilbert trade for Yandy Diaz and Pete Fairbanks. Vientos and Yandy can platoon 1B/DH. Pete pads the bullpen tremendously even though cold weather is not really his thing.
Since mid November, various media outlets in Phoenix and outside Phoenix suggesting Zac could be moved, because D-Backs might not be able to afford to keep him, especially if they try to keep Christian Walker.
I love the Ghost Fork, but Senga still has to prove he has the physicality to stand up to a full MLB season. Can he handle the bigger balls? Also, if Dumpster Dave cobbles together the same type of journeyman pitching staff as 2024 it may be "good enough" for third in the NL East and a wild card, but they won't get any farther in 2025 than '24. As it stands this pitching staff will get eaten alive by LA. They didn't need Soto, they need top arms. If they had paid Wheeler and Lugo, where would they be now? Oh, but Steve Cohen proves his is bigger than Hal's, must be gratifying when they pull them out at the Winter Meetings. Sorry for all the phallic images this post, was not intentional.
Can’t believe after year 1 of Stearns people are still thinking they know more than him. We’ll be alright. Pretty sure last year we barely got Sevy at this point?
@@MrKeychangeThey had a great lineup and Roberts was nervous as hell about getting quality innings from his starters. Everything fell into place for him in that regard. Remember.... however....that the Dodgers had a phenomenal bullpen.
@johncummings5350 Did you notice the only team with two top pitchers lost in the NLDS... to the Mets? I'd love to have them, but saying there's NO chance when the last four teams had one great starter between them is just wrong
@@MrKeychange I didn't say NO CHANCE..... but let's be realistic, ...it helps to have top pitching. Someone else said NO CHANCE......the Nationals could win the world series next year.....not likely but you can't say NO CHANCE
I suggest you go back and watch Madison Bumgarner in the World Series so you can remember what an ace can do in a 7 game series. It is the most critical asset in a series and next on the list is likely an ace #2.
I love this channel. I appreciate your perspective, Ryan. I disagree entirely with you. I think you’re trying to convince yourself that the Mets don’t need to get a frontline starting pitcher & only 1 more pitcher. The teams that are in the hunt may not give you what was considered an “ace”, but they have pitchers that have the potential to be. 200 Ks, sub 3 ERA, but one thing I do agree is & that’s innings. The Mets broke their bullpen so early bc so many SP who couldn’t get out of the 6th inning. The Phillies have 2 sub 3 ERA potential with blanco who has a massive upside & is very young. Wheeler obviously cy young caliber pitcher. The Mets have question marks: Senga: ?( he was bouncing balls in the playoffs & health concerns) Holmes: ? (Former reliever HUGE?) Megill ??? (Better suited for the bullpen) Buto? (long reliever/multiple innings Blackburn? (6th starter at best) Montas: ? (#5 starter who in the last 5 years pitched mostly in the mid 4s) 31:18 Sproat? (Highest upside besides senga but struggled in AAA & would be on a count limit)Th Peterson ? (Which Peterson are we getting 2023 or 2024 maybe somewhere in the middle) This rotation is better suited for a small-mid market team as it’s currently constructed & you need multiple frontline starters to get to & win the world seriees Mets still need multiple players & may not be able to fill them all in one season, imho.
Things would have looked a lot brighter if the Mets hadn't wasted a top draft pick on Kevin Parada. The White Sox chose lefty Noah Shultz, now, he's the best pitching prospect in Baseball.
I have faith in Sterns and Cohen that they will get the pitching this team needs. A huge investment with Soto, would be wasted otherwise. No way they can win with the pitching the way it sits right now.
Of course they do. This staff is one of the worst in baseball right now and the BP is atrocious. You can sign 8 Soto’s and it won’t matter if you can’t get anybody out.
Corbin Burnes Jack Flaherty Nick Pivetta Sean Manaea Patrick Sandoval José Quintana LUZARDO , trade for the pitcher from mariners. or get valdez from astros. CAN WE GET ATLEAST ONE OR TWO OF THEM OF THEM.
My opinion. I would keep Acuna and not trade him. He can play 2nd, backup shortstop and play center field - all positions the Mets need a better bat for. He could become a really strong bat and starter. Trade Baty if you trade a prospect. Baty seems like a head case and he can't stay healthy at all. Sign Roki.

I wish they'd trade Blackburn the pirate. Lol.
Castillo will give up more runs away from that Seattle Park
The Mets would do better through the FA market than giving up prospect capital for a starter.
Yes especially in playoffs
I agree with signing Sasaki. He and Sproat would lead our rotation in the near future. Next year Christian Scott can join in too.

There's NO chance to win in postseason without a couple of ace pitchers, one might get there without them, but winning is something else.

While he's talented he's not that advanced yet like other pitchers to come from Japan.

Sign gleyber for a cheap 1 year deal, move mcneil to first for this year. Then build out the core next year with vladdy jr
