That's a great pro tip me and my wife are contractors and we work on our jobs.Beacause noone is going to work for your own company like you will so a great tip and another great video.GOD BLESS YOU GUYS AND YOUR FAMILY'S.
I do the same thing as Jamie. I adopt the way of speaking of the person I'm talking to... by the way your content is SUPER! It may be my first time commenting but I watch every video... or maybe it is not the first time...
It has become a bit of a ritual watching you guys on a Sunday night. I am all the way over in the uk and really enjoy the banter between you all. Thanks 🙏
I couldn't agree more with your tip on hiring subs that you can contact when needed. It took me a few years but eventually I had subs in every trade I needed who would be at the job and answer my calls any time of day / night / weekends. It makes every job run much smoother and stress level much less. Another great video!
Jay does a great job bringing a light mood with his great sense of humor ... and THEN he gets serious and mentions PROTIPS .. well rounded dude. Love the PBB team! I'll get some more CARDINAL COFFEE this week for you all .... keep Jaime 'Wizard' Perkins firing on all cylinders
Recommendations vary based on climate zone but yes you have the Kraft paper thing right. The idea is to have an air/water barrier on the outside of your building (in this case you do, the zip system). This keeps vapors from condensing inside the wall in a time like the warm summer when water vapor hits the cool wall from indoor air conditioning. Also, there’s humidity indoors. The same thing can happen from the inside out so you want that Kraft paper to keep vapor from entering the wall cavity and condensing somewhere inside causing mold/rot.
Getting excited to get to our cottage to finish the Reno’s. 90 year old cottage that had two additions over 60 years ago. Gutted the cottage 4 years ago and now got it to the point where its a matter of installing trim and odds and ends. I had zero skill when I started but your channel has helped me tremendously over the years. Thank you!
Also, those Dewalt staplers are so awesome. I thought look at these plastic pieces of junk when the first came out but you guys are right. Best staplers ever. So far.
Another great presentation..I noticed that you kept the building paper(so to speak)over the windows to keep out the bad weather..Smart move..Also I sure would like to know how Jaimie keeps his left hand helper clean..Again your shows always impress me with all the knowledge and humor...Thanx boys
Dear Perkins builder brothers, (or Jamie because I'm pretty sure you're reading all the comments, no punt intended to you, Erik). Just want to say thank you for all your fun content and the knowledge you teach other builders, homeowners, and DIY folks. I learned a lot over the last year since watching you guys and projects don't seem as daunting anymore. One question, which you maybe have gotten before so I apologize for the redundancy, would you guys ever consider doing a timber frame (as in post and beam) construction? The current content that is out there is sparse and not well explained but you guys do always do such a good job in explaining things so I thought it would be cool if you may be in the future build a smallish timber frame house. Anyway thanks, guys!
In the first 2 minutes you guys solved my new tub install insulation issue I was trying to figure out. So simple but I didn't see it and then you said staple plastic to hold it in. It was one of those, oh yeah that should have obvious moments. Thank you guys.
My wife and I love your channel. You do really fun videos and you deserve lots of praise. There is one small complaint that we thought might be on the minds of tons of viewers and it is this. Many people (us included) get motion sick very easily. We understand how difficult and time consuming it must be to build the homes and also video the work but if you could please try to keep a more steady position for the camera it would be great. Shaky cam is not a good look and although you do a great job most of the time, hand held filming can be really hard for some of us to watch. Thanks for your fun videos!
I’m so glad to see I’m not the only one that still does door pans!!! The only difference is I put a small upturn bend on the inside. Nice touch guys. You all are top notch.
Since y’all like protips and all : cameras “tilt” up and down and “pan” left and right. They don’t pan down unless you live is a sideways world 😉. Keep up the good work. Love y’all’s channel and have learned a lot!
When someone imitates (or closes the accent gap) with whomever they are speaking with it indicates a high level of empathy and emotional intelligence 👍
Looking good, guys! Question: When you create the threshold for the French doors, is it sloped like a window frame opening? Thanks for sharing your skills!
When I resided my house I definitely did a good job stapling the house wrap, definitely wasn't out in a ladder at 3am in my slippers when the wind picked up. Nope not me, never.
Wider and taller on the rough openings is always better. Also carpet and tile might give you door scrubbing issues and force you to cut them. I always add an extra half inch to the height and on garden doors an extra inch or 2 wider. Easier to add another thickness of plywood or 2x4 in the opening than to have to cut out larger !
I love the video you fellas make..love the tips, sometimes they are simple and should know tips, but some carpenters don't know or practice it...excellent work
Just finished watch the nantahala retread, farm house and mountain house building. It's a great job what you doing guys. I learn alot from especially about wood working, that rarelly use anymore in where i came from because wood is 3x more expensive than concreat. Now i understand why american chose wood over concreat 😅

@@christophertuttle8781 Right?? I worked in concrete for a little while going into it knowing absolutely nothing and was told he had no problem teaching me the trade and he would freak out any time I didn’t know something. Like a mad man just screaming his head off
The place is looking good guys! I think there's a lot to be said for owners of the business who are on site and available, same goes for you guys, that's why your jobs turn out great and problems are quickly dealt with
Don't forget on finished siding you have to watch hammer marks. When your driving the nails home in the fascia, rarely does the hammer head face hit squarely, and that dent shows on shinny finished siding.
I've read that LP Smart siding isn't a good choice. They have 2 other companies paint their product. So it is very hard to get them to replace anything when it comes to the warranty. You also are not supposed to spray water directly on the siding because it is easy for water to penetrate and or get trapped causing damage.
I love y’all’s videos and have been watching a ton of them. I kept trying to figure out why Jamie sounds so familiar and it finally hit me. He sounds like a young Steve Spurrier 😂 Keep putting out more great content guys. This really is a a great channel
Tracer tape for those underground pipes. Cheaper than copper wire and if you put it a foot above your pipe it can be an advanced warning for somebody who didn't call digsafe.
You guys are seriously masters of the craft. Your videos are absolutely top-notch: the crew's character shines; the shots are clear, crisp, and concise; and your choice of backing music is on point. Your guys' dynamic, knowledgeable instructions, and attention to detail prove your respect for the trades in an engaging, one-of-a-kind way. Thank you for being stellar examples of what elite tradesmen should be. And thanks for dropping knowledge bombs in such a fun to watch way. I literally cannot stop watching your videos, and you and your crew have motivated me to explore a lifelong dream of getting into the building trades. If I can attain even a portion of the quality, knowhow, and skill your crew have, I'll consider it a great success. Keep doing what you're all doing - you're absolutely killing it. And thanks again!
I'm glad you all put the spelling for T-Astragal there because I thought not of you were doing southern speak. I was waiting for a "you can't say that."
When you guys threw up a reference to the door rough out measurements, it looked like it came from a building manual or something. What reference is that? I'm new to this stuff and would love a sort of how-to guide. Thanks!
Really enjoy your videos. One question. Will you use the zip system product they have over all the screws or nails you used to fasten the zip sheets? Otherwise the zip system sheet goods basically have hundreds if not thousands of compromises
I thought I was going to see lots of joist hangers, especially for the roof structure. For roof tie down, in case of tornado or any wind uplift. Is that not part of the code in your area?
Hey guys! Thanks for a regular doze of building videos! I was wondering when do you upload videos from you own construction site? Or is it a different channel and I missed it? I saw pictures of that recently o Instagram. Would be cool to know. Thanks and keep up the high quality of videos!

Be careful of caulking over nails!! Used a highly recommended product ($$$$) years ago that said it was paintable for outside trim and the customer painted it days later only to have it flash through. He tried priming and repainting still no luck. I believe that if the caulking could have weathered a couple of weeks that might have prevented the problem, but the instructions did not mention it. Live and learn.

The flashing is flat, but the threshold above it is sloped

love the LP stuff. it blew my mind when i found out the make an 1-1/8 plywood lol thats some serious subfloor

Lexel is great stuff ! So is NP1. Give a try sometime. Especially in water prone areas. Ie: flashing corners and such

It's true. The craft paper does Jack as a vapor barrier. My parents house used the same stuff and craft paper face insulation still needs a barrier.
Great job boys. It's coming together. Thanks for the tips Jamie.

As an Engineer I really like their work and I want to this kind of sites.

You basically just (normally) add 2 inches to the width of the door slab to get the framing width
Do you need Lexel between the subfloor and the flashing at the door as well?

Why not use a non itchy insulation? Like Gutex or Isovlas. It doesn’t itch, it regulates moist and has a very high insulation value.
Are there going to be two air handler units in this house? One in the attic and one in the crawl space?
Yes
When using 1x8 lp fascia. What’s the best way to make the back of the board look good if you’re under it or looking out of a window?
I’d say just do a good job caulking and painting it
I’m just curious, I find myself thinking abt this randomly throughout the day. How do u plan on insulating the top of the ventless fireplace?
The ceiling of the whole living room will be insulated over that corner.
What is that paint primer bottle you keep painting the nail heads with and where can I get one?! Thank you!!
I’m not sure but it comes with the LP smart siding paint touch up kit

Hi guys love watching your videos just wanted to ask a quick question. In the uk all houses are built in brick why are all houses in the USA built using wood?
Because we have LOTS AND LOTS of wood in North America.
It’s healthier when built right. Your masonry buildings do not breath and holds moisture.
Awesome job as always.
I never thought about the extra jamb thickness when using the Zip. How about windows?
Same but, we rip all them to fit from trim boards.
Tips are always awesome
Learning a lot from you guys as we build our house! Great vids!
why do you use both plaster and DRYline? Wouldn’t it be enough with one of them?
Kinda silly but it’s just to cover the brand name on the sheathing for a LP sponsored video…
