I can understand your "concern" but I - and I guess most subscribers - would never think that you will ever make such a video for bragging. Simply because we all got to know you as a very modest person and so I for sure can appreciate such a video for the informative value and I would like to see such a video on a regular Basis - let's say once a year or so. So keep up the good work and best wishes from Austria, Michael.
lol you are one of the only youtubers that actually consistently links the videos you refer to in the description. So many people say "I'll link that in the description" then when you check, they have a description as empty as the brain of the guy who thought throwing a pommel was a good idea. Good job
1 minute in and you insult my beloved Dacian Falx by calling it fantasy?! *throws gauntlet* Prepare to taste the poorly made and unrefined steel of my ancestors, you scoundrel!
LOOK AT ALL HIS SHIT! In all seriousness, you have a really nice and diverse collection. It is entertaining to see all those arms from different eras and cultures, while you talk about them in a more casual way, hearing about things that would not be included in a traditional, professional review (reviews are still awesome btw). Thank you for the video. Cheers!
Love your channel. I would like to know your opinion about claw weapons... Not the ones you hold, I know those are practical enough, but the ones the protrude from your finger, like that of Freddie Krueger's. How practical would it be?
한동규: The ones you are talking about exist, but practicality and "would I actually use this" and how well it goes up against something else are factors that prevent than being popular or used
You know.. I was browsing your channel earlier and thought to myself; "I wonder when Skal is gonna do another video showcasing his collection?" This coincidence is... unsettling to say the least.
Since i was a child i really love all the sword related topics. I can´t aford those pieces but it´s great to learn a lot about the weapons from someone that really knows what he´s talking about. Thank you so much for your work. Regards from Guatemala.
im happy to say ive been watching long enough to remember each of the videos you've made on these (for the ones that you've reviewed) I have to say the messer is still a favorite of mine
I've seen it before in your other videos, but every time I see that town guard sidesword I have a deep fascination with it. Damn that sword looks good.
Skall, I can confirm what you said about Kali (having done a couple years of training in it). It's a vicious style of close-quarters jungle combat, hence the typical short blade lengths and very short range. Armor wasn't common, either, so armor penetration isn't really necessary. A lot of the sword technique's influences come from stick fighting. (You probably already know most of that but I felt the need to pop in on that.) I always love to watch your videos, thanks for posting!
Hey Skall. you should do a video on what weapons would be best in a fantasy world to fight Dragons, Ogres, Chimeras, etc. However I do think people in such a world would develop new weapons to fight such creatures. Any thoughts or ideas on what form/s these new weapons would take?
For such a question, you should first define what you mean by "dragon", "ogre", "chimera".There are many many myths about very very different creatures which share the same name. An arabian dragon has very little to share with pre-christian norse mythology dragons. Actually theese (pre-christian norse mythology dragons) had much more to share with the chinese dragon than they do have with what you'd think about when i say "european dragon". Same problems with Ogres, Dwarfs (which are still being debated, they could even be dark elves if you read the Edda). And about chimeras, well in fantasy the word "chimera" got to identify any monstruous thing which resembles a mix of any animal, while the "original" greek myth chimera was quite well defined as a lion with a secondary goat head and a snake instead of its tail. (cfr age of mythology's chimera)
Being a person with no extra money available to buy weapons, I can only make my own synthetic ones. Can't enjoy the cutting, but I can still do drillings with them anyway. Also having fun designing them, too. That's why I find Skall's collection video very enjoyable, it gives me idea of what kind of weapons I'm lacking right now.
for major blade re-profiling, try using a file jig like the ones people use for knife making, there are plenty of tutorials on youtube. a homemade file jig can help precisely change the blade geometry, is cheap to make and doesn't take up a lot of space
Dude! Why aren't you in movies? I could so see you in a movie with swords and battles with a mid-evil vibe or a viking movie as well. I would watch the hell out of that movie! Your channel is awesome and you both are my favorite! I love learning about realistic sword fighting vs what people think is possible. Keep up the great work, you both are awesome :)
I would love to see you give the same time and attention that you do to classical swords to classical knives and or daggers. I think you would enjoy a well made quillon.
Its not a Gladius, but the Windlass Quama is pretty similar, is useable, cheap and looks nice. (35$ if i remember it right). You might be able to afford that one
I practiced Kombatan which is also a Filipino martial art and that is correct, the basic stances usually involve resting the swords on your shoulders ( Kombatan mainly revolves around dual wielding. ) or have a sword under the opposite arm after you follow thru. Basically what it does is that it allows for rapid circular motions of both blade for both non stop aggression and parries.
19:10 That Lockwood Longsword is gorgeous. Does anyone know any swords that are of a similar style/aesthetic? I looked on the Lockwood website and the guard and handle colours are customisable so maybe it's just the forest-green that I like so much.
Hey Skallagrim what do you think of the guys from Man at Arms and their blacksmithing skills and the way the try to make fantasy swords a reality and mostly practical (excluding swords such as the berserk sword, masamune etc)
Hey, just fyi: "espada" and "daga" are just spanish words for sword and dagger. If you say to a spaniard that you have an "espada" he will only understand that you got a sword, not the type of sword. Maybe in Philipines they would understand it as those paired weapons but for other spanish speaking people it sounds weird.
Talking of fitting in frame, could you have a dedicated camera setup to show sword cross sections full frame? Could even be a still picture, such as a blowup from a 12Mpixel still camera. Idea is to fill the entire 16:9 video screen with the blades seen from their pointy ends.
I've really been enjoying your videos of oddball/older weapons and testing of weapons in general. Gotta wonder though since I've recently been looking for more testing information about Indian Urumis, got any plans to acquire one for testing or collection? Would be very interested to see a more in depth vid of one, most vids available are either short and/or old video of weapon demonstrations. Naturally I've understood that the weapon is hard to handle so good testing might be hard to do without self injury... Doesn't stop my fascination of it though ^^
I would love to see the historical weapons/armor people here on YT combine forces to rewrite the range and damage tables for FRPGs. I think we'd end up with a MUCH better distribution of weapons, instead of everything wielding a long sword, dagger, and bow.
Hey Skally, can you check out the TFW war golok. I'm Filipino and its really important to my culture, it's made for chopping. looks like a good cutting test.
Cool reviews. I've been searching online for swords that I like most and you have 2 of them in your collection already, the Kriegsmesser and the Side-Sword (Munich Sword?). And for what its worth, I really like the Raptor Sword (I know it's not historical, but it sure looks good). If you Google the Raptor, do you think it is a fancy Kriegmesser, or would you classify it as something else?
Memes are attacking, and bad jokes following. Pomnels cascading down in deadly volley. Death and destruction and crige you will feel. Skall's comment section. The Cascade of Steel.
Seeing that Gladius reminds me of a question that I always have but never remember to actually look up. What are the differences, if any, between that blade and a Xiphos?
Hi! I watched one of your old videos about different sword types. I thought that you would find interesting the fact that "estoc" in frensh is both the name of a sword and of the fact of thrusting with a sword as opposed to "taille" which is slashing with an edged sword or "contre-taille" which is slashing with the back of the sword.
You have a Ginunting! Awesome! It's probably my favorite Filipino blade design. I bought one recently; it handles like a dream. The sword is a traditional weapon of the Ilonggos of Panay Island. I'm half-Ilonggo so I guess that makes it perfect for me haha. It's probably most famous for being the sword of the Philippine Marine Corps Force Recon Battalion, who are trained to use it with Pekiti Tirsia Kali. Force Recon's ginunting design has an s-guard to better protect the hand, and some producers/dealers sell ginunting with that design (I'm hoping to get an s-guard ginunting in the future).
I have a question about the longsword, if I may ask. You said many times longswords are made to thrust and I understood why, I also watched your test video agaist the Riveted Mail and how the blade performed. My question is: would it be believable for medieval times to go around with a longsword and take down opponents with it, not rich opponents who can afford full plate armors of course, but bandits dressed in clothes or parts of leather armor? Expecially not by just thrusting but also cutting? Thanks for reading.
the pudao was meant to be that flexible. I think that I read somewhere that it was meant that way so it would keep vibrating when it hits an opponents bone ( ticker ones like on the legs) and break them instead of being stuck or anything. im not really sure though
I would love to see some cavalry swords, like a civil war cutlass and even a bronze companion cavalry kopis from Alexander the Great's age. If you ever get the chance, it might be nice to see how cavalry swords changed and their use changed with them over time.
Hey Skall, I was wondering if you knew where to find the best made and most realistic poleaxe on the market. I know that kind of thing is hard to find (you said so) but I guess if anyone can give me a good answer on this, it's you. Thanks! Love your vids!
Hey Skall, I'm looking into getting into historical blacksmithing, and I was wondering if you or anybody in the comment section could point me to some resources on historical metal working, particularly norse crucible steel? I have a basic forge shop and every tool a viking might need.
Looks like you're in a lot better shape lately. Nice work, man.
Mamma mia! Very nice mate. Yes I'm one of those people who enjoy this sort of videos :3
Metatron Hello Metatron! I'm glad you spread your wings to some of the same places I do :D
0/10 no pasta joke
Metatron really i wasnt sure ;3
The metatron has spread his wings

It's still in need of repair, so that's why I didn't include it.
*picks gauntlet off the ground* Oh... Alright then. You win this time! *runs in the mountains*
DraMattIck
Hey, you forgot something... **picks up pommel, throws after you**
Now that, is how to end someone rightly.
Unfair, my falx has no pommel!! Curse you, Skall!!
LOOK AT ALL HIS SHIT!

It is entertaining to see all those arms from different eras and cultures, while you talk about them in a more casual way, hearing about things that would not be included in a traditional, professional review (reviews are still awesome btw).

Throw your pommels away , people , the Cascade of Steel that wrecks everything is the new channel meme .
Come find me , man , I have a gambeson .
Elektro/PyrokineticChosenOne
I HAVE A POMMEL THAT FLIPS THE BIRD LETS GOOOOOO
I have a pommel that plays "cascade of steel" when it hits someone.
I just have a shaft that strikes things
End them rightly with the Cascade of Steel!
Had this on my watch list for over 3 years lol. There's probably a new collection video by now haha! Love your stuff :)

1. fingers are frail. 2. It would be impractical to hold/grab other things.
한동규 Why are there so many people with your profile pic lmao
You'd break your fingers after hitting anything that's not pure flesh. Shit, maybe even just from hitting flesh.
Love your channel. Helps an aspiring bladesmith become educated on the subject of weaponry. Keep up the good workď
*work
You know.. I was browsing your channel earlier and thought to myself; "I wonder when Skal is gonna do another video showcasing his collection?"
This coincidence is... unsettling to say the least.
See, it's all your fault. :)
Skallagrim about how many weapons do you have? (Ex guns)
_thinks about winning the lottery_
Jasongrayson. You: Skall, how many weapons do you have?
Skall: How many pieces of bread have you eaten in your life?
Aldrich, Devourer of MEMES is this a JOJOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO référence ?
Since i was a child i really love all the sword related topics. I can´t aford those pieces but it´s great to learn a lot about the weapons from someone that really knows what he´s talking about. Thank you so much for your work.

I once struck my shaft so hard it bent a bit
This Guy what kind of pole arm did you use?
Lifeless life form The big "D"!
Well, I suppose in the thrust you wouldn't want it to flop around all over the place. Maybe being bent is better...?
im happy to say ive been watching long enough to remember each of the videos you've made on these (for the ones that you've reviewed) I have to say the messer is still a favorite of mine
Skall, you and Cara have amazing taste in weapons. I like almost every one of those.
what a great channel. I recently ended up with a sword and I feel I can respect it more the more I watch these videos.
"In the thrust, you don't want it to flop around all over the place". True Skall! :D
I eagerly anticipated the great sword but when you pulled out that side sword (I think I'm in love!) a new favorite type of sword for me.
Is, "End him rightly," just a huge joke for this channel now? If so, I fully approve.
I really enjoy these list-like videos, they really clear things up. keep up the great work Skall!
I notice a severe lack of magical katanas.
Rachenviel Magical Katanas are weak, compared to Blessed Longswords, and Posessed Broadswords.
Chaos Zweihander +5
Odin's Dane axe +15
Lord Death Dark dont forget your grass crest shield
WAHT RINGS U GOT BICHT
I've seen it before in your other videos, but every time I see that town guard sidesword I have a deep fascination with it. Damn that sword looks good.
Skall: "I'm not a fan of larger pommels".
Me: how else are you going to end them rightly?
I have to say, your videos are great but they are only as good as they are because youre an amazing youtube host.
Props to you Skallagrim.
18:54 So it appears that you've got an axe to grind?
Lars Prins *COUGH* is that a warcraft 3 refrence? *COUGH*
You should show stuff more often. We all know you are a humble man.
I'd like to see a sturdy greatsword tested!
So heavy....

Oh, I do have one of those. ;^)

However I do think people in such a world would develop new weapons to fight such creatures. Any thoughts or ideas on what form/s these new weapons would take?
honestly, most likely a form of polearm that can stab and hack (halberd, english bill, possibly the hungarian axe, ect.)
Yes! Let's not forget Hydras, Krakens, Giant Spiders, Trolls, Griffons and any other fantasy creature you can think of.
Heavy crossbow or any other kind of ranged weapon. Like hell I'll get close to a creature that can rip me apart with a single hit, armor or not...
For such a question, you should first define what you mean by "dragon", "ogre", "chimera".There are many many myths about very very different creatures which share the same name. C Whitmer Pikes would be most used against large creatures, like they were used against horses, camels and elephants.
Being a person with no extra money available to buy weapons, I can only make my own synthetic ones.

I love the bronze xiphos. Its leaflike shape is beautiful and the way the bronze shines is just wow.
Personal favorite is the zweihander.
"So yes you can end them rightly with this" he says with a sigh.
Getting kind of sick of the meme Skall? XD
Dude! Why aren't you in movies? I could so see you in a movie with swords and battles with a mid-evil vibe or a viking movie as well. I would watch the hell out of that movie! 20:18 It was too big to be called a sword. Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. Indeed, it was a heap of raw iron.
I hope he finishes the manga soon.
Jonathan Thörn we all do buddy
Jonathan Thörn Den började före jag föddes...
Finish the Maga soon... Haha. I'm sure it's got a few years left at least. Guessing there's at least 20-40 chapters needed to have a good finish.
That is an awesome collection! Very impressive.
is the throwing pommel armor piercing?
Well of course!
it's a finisher that scales with almost any build and has tons of crit.
james ducharme i heard that is getting nerfed with the next patch
ELETRIKDOG001 depends on who throws it, I would think.
Armour piercing, no.
But ignores 50% of A.C. on a crit.
im amazed that you say the filipino names of the weapons. kudos to you and thank you for showcasing filipino weapons!
Do you still have the hanwei claymore?
Nope.
Skallagrim Would you recommend it from past experiences with it?
Phantom
For the price it's okay. Typical Hanwei problems though... not very good steel, overly flexible blade, very dull edge.
Skallagrim Alright,Thanks for your time.
"in the thrust, you don't want it to flop around all over the place"

Don't worry Skall, mine flops around when I thrust too.
That pole-arm dao is a really nice blade, but I think my favorite is that long sword. Beautiful.

I would love to see you give the same time and attention that you do to classical swords to classical knives and or daggers. I think you would enjoy a well made quillon.
Completely unrelated: What was the name of some Anime accurately pretty depicting the thirty-years-war you mentioned in some video?
Maria the virgin witch, or something like that.
Maria the Virgin Witch, and its 100yrs war BTW
Thanks. Sorry, I confused the two.
Would be cool to see the thirty-year-war depicted in anything though!
Wish I could afford a gladius, but I am a poor student
Anarchy TV same here... money? what money?
BeenieBombYT that is kind of you, thanks 😊
Its not a Gladius, but the Windlass Quama is pretty similar, is useable, cheap and looks nice. (35$ if i remember it right).
You might be able to afford that one

Hey Skallagrim, i just watched your video on the impracticality of hoods. You should make one on capes!
9:50 "The large pommel is... not quite my thing..." Noob, A LARGE POMMEL IS THE GREATEST THING ANYBODY COULD ADD TO A SWORD! |:
20:50 that's also a great great sword!

I looked on the Lockwood website and the guard and handle colours are customisable so maybe it's just the forest-green that I like so much.
The link for the crossbow video is wrong, pls fix it :)
Thanks, fixed it.
that's Metal indeed! \m/ nice video as always Skallert!
You don't have the Michael Tinker anymore? :'(
No, sorry. Didn't really want to get rid of it but sometimes stuff happens.
***** ah such a shame. It was my favourite sword of yours and probably my favorite sword ever. :(
Oh well. Life goes on. :)
I get notifications for everyone of his videos every time they're uploaded but never anything else from any other channel.
Why don't you have a single pommel there? That's like, the ultimate weapon.
Hey Skallagrim what do you think of the guys from Man at Arms and their blacksmithing skills and the way the try to make fantasy swords a reality and mostly practical (excluding swords such as the berserk sword, masamune etc)

Awesome collection! I love The Knecht!! Wish I can own one....
wait how is a falx fantasy?
Well, I cheated... since it's still out of commission until it's repaired (and I don't have a proper vise to do it), I excluded it.
What exactly is there to repair?
Cheeky
Vlad Prisecaru
It was bent severely from a very powerful strike on a helmet.
Hmm , it looked very sturdy in the review video though...
Hey Skally, can you check out the TFW war golok. I'm Filipino and its really important to my culture, it's made for chopping. looks like a good cutting test.
Did you really sell your Tinker? What a shame...
Actually, he traded it. I know because he did this with me :D Can't wait to test it out.
TheDankSun oh you are f*cking lucky
Ben Schneppensiefen Definitely. The thing he got in return isn't bad either though. It has to be if he traded the Tinker for it heh
TheDankSun what did you gave Himmel?
Him

awesome collection! cant wait for tomorrow's video

Hey Skallagrim we Love to see other Peoples Collections. Video's like this do well viewer wise :-) So keep Collecting
Hey Skall, I was wondering if you knew where to find the best made and most realistic poleaxe on the market. I know that kind of thing is hard to find (you said so) but I guess if anyone can give me a good answer on this, it's you.

Hey Skall, I'm looking into getting into historical blacksmithing, and I was wondering if you or anybody in the comment section could point me to some resources on historical metal working, particularly norse crucible steel? I have a basic forge shop and every tool a viking might need.
Huh, I was just watching the old ones yesterday wondering when you'd make the new one. Convenient.
Thanks for the links. Always going above and beyond!
