Thailand ordered 49 of them and while they did fulfill the order the tank arrived in such a horrendus condition that they have to order VT-4s to plug the gap. I'm pretty sure Thailand has more of these than Ukraine itself.
@@TrynaLift-zv5st Ukraine has regained substantial amounts of territory this year, while russia has failed miserably in every single counteroffensive they tried to mount. They've lost hundreds of officers and have resorted to conscripting prisoners into front line penal battalions with little or no training, and we can see from satellite imagery that they're pulling large numbers of T54s and T55s out of storage facilities. The only metric you could possibly be using to justify "winning" is that russia is still hanging onto the halves of 4 provinces by their fingernails. At the start of the war, russia claimed it would take all of Ukraine including Kyiv, then it claimed it would take 4 eastern provinces, now it's looking like they can only manage to take halves of them. russia keeps moving the goalpost of what they consider "victory" in light of their frequent and seemingly endless failures. At this point, we wouldn't be surprised if Ukraine manages to liberate Crimea next year. So the real quesiton is: are you mad that russia is losing? lol
Fun fact. The Malyshev Factory that domestically made some of the parts of the T-84 MBT went Bankrupt in 2021. They also never paid there workers and are still in hot water for violating Workers Rights and Corruption of its owners like the Legendary Kharkiv Tank Factory in late 90s early 2000s. There's also a lot of scandal with Ukraine and its tanks. With there BTR-4 having such bad rep for the quality metal used on them.
Если точнее то БТР имел нормальную сталь, но ужасно сваренную. Ибо цех где раньше при СССР варили броню был закрыт уже, а люди уволены.. Вот сварные швы и трескались.
Its sad but this is Ukraine for you. I don't even know how they messed up maintaining the Legendary Kharkov Tank Factory which produces the T-80 MBT. Hence why they can only build a handful of T-84s unless its paid by a foreign power. They simply don't have the money due to the insane corruption inside.
To call the tank the best despite the fact that the country has never had enough capacity to produce it. This is the same as calling a tungsten core bullet the best bullet in the world.
That's one of the problems with this video. It shows a lot of bias towards ukraine putting a lot and too much emphasis on the best and better then Russian and western MBTs. I think it is very good but it will be like the t-14 armada. It's there but it's not getting produced it's probably the best in the world but no good way to test it because there's only so few that exist. The point is that that tank was the EPITOME of the Soviet Tank development. There was always a current gen tank, and also some research and work done in advance for it's next gen improvement. So they had a current T80UD tank at the dissolution of the Soviet Union and they applied all of the available post Soviet advancements to it, and on top of that some better version western thermal sights etc. So that tank was literally the epitome of the Soviet Tank development, the best possible tank that the Soviet Union could have produce over it's 70 years of tank research and development, was released in that tank the T84 BM Oplot . So it's not like it came out of the blue or out of nothing. It had a solid Soviet basis behind it. And the tank in theory was good, however , as I've said in the beginning, if it had existed... It doesn't exist and Ukraine can't produce it without Russia (all of the previous production tanks were made together with Russian cooperation), and their official Russian parts replacement program for Oplot was supposed to be finished in 2025 ( I think that program was called "Bastion" if I'm not mistaken) and for obvious reasons we now know that it's not going to happen. It was conceived to work as a part of the Soviet industry, once the Union disolved the supply chain broke and lots of the workers from other republics (mostly Russians) fleed back home. Imagine what would happen to the military industry in Texas if they became independent from the USA today, building an F-35 or anything similar would become impossible.
imagine Texas separates itself from US and Russia supports this starting from Lavrov giving cookies to separatists and then supplying long range weaponry, tanks and modern age fighters...oh wait

They went for better paying jobs and many took russian citizenship. Its why russia invaded they.. In their hubris though all the ukrainians would switch back to being russians just like that.. And to be honest if they invaded in 2014 and ukraines were suddrnly matched to russian wages 60% of ukrainians would have accepted it. Not saying russia invading is good... But its based on logic.. Russian land russia people ect should be easy right? Haha well didnt work out.. But "ukraine" is a communist creation. People in ukraine and western and southern russia have never been able to clearly tell eachother as seperate groups.. There is not a clear line "russian" and ukrainian.. Its more.. T-14 isn't mass produced since Russia the "strongest country on earth" accord to a 12-year old doesn't have the capacity to do it and it is not send to the frontline. Russia is already having a hard time restarting the T-80 production. Though the Kharkov Tank Factory was the original one that manufactures the T-80. I highly doubt its capable of modernizing such an ancient factory.
See how Soviet (or improved Soviet) design and technology is praised. Russians have over the years improved on their own design (much like everyone else really) and technology but western media still call them "old" and have in fact equate "soviet designed" to mean antiquated, when in fact almost all weapons in most armies were designed in the 80s but improved upon. Be consistent for once
It's good on paper, but has a lot of issues with the 'soft' factors. Like the CITV blocking the commander's cupola, so he has terrible situational awareness without almost getting out of the tank, or relying entirely on cameras. Also, Duplet ERA is very heavy, so they had to remove armor to fit all of that ERA. If those blocks don't work as advertised, are damaged, or used up, then the tank had basically paper thin frontal armor. And of course throwbacks to soviet tank design like lever driver controls, explosive autoloader, tight intetior etc.
The t80 is basically a t64 but with a more powerful engine and incorporating suspension components of the T-72. Guess who designed the t64? Ukraine did The t84 is based on the t80ud Who designed the t80ud? Ukraine did. The other series of tanks made by Russia the t72 which the t90 is based on the T-72 was often used to equip infantry battalions due to its versatility and relatively simpler design, while the more advanced T-64 was typically assigned to tank battalions. so if it looks similar its because the t80 is like the grandad of the t84, and the t84 is the son of the t80UD
This tank is JUST A T-64 with a lot of additional things mounted on it from outside. A product of suffocated and agonizing russian engineering school left behind in degrading ukraine which lost every single part of vitality and perspective. The other fact is that this tank hasn't been destroyed because they literally do not have them anymore
In fact there are many more tank designs that had already demontrated such an amazing survivability in this conflict. The key factor here is to stay as far away from the frontlines as possible, it's also important to keep production figures low. Oplots maintain 700 km distance and that seems far enough. But there are more impressive numbers out there, french Leclercs, for example, operate as far as 2000 km away, to make sure that russians will never have a chance against them. However some designs are truly in the league of their own - EE-T1 Osório, just two of them produced and 11.000 km distance wins brazilian top spot in your survival rating!

Drone warfare will forever change the way tanks are designed and made. Initially, I think they will look to technology to counter drones flying into them but from what we have seen in this conflict they will need to come up with some sort of change on the exterior of the tanks to stop even small drones from dropping an explosive on top of them. The way they have used small FPV drones along with larger kamikaze drones it will be interesting to see what tank designers come up with.

Why do you guys keep saying that? there's literally nothing there to improve. Russian tanks are better. The only thing that you could potentially improve is electronics. As a Ukrainian, I do not believe that Oplot is the future tank of our army. Some combination of "Oplot M" and "Scythe" can become them, but if we want a really new tank, we should finally take up the finishing work of the experimental "Nota". Because "Nota" is literally a tank of a new generation, which is undeniably better than any other modern tank. In addition, the peculiarity of its design allows for good protection of the tower from above.
The funny thing about Soviet production in Ukraine isn't just that the USSR chose to do it there, it's that the actual engineers and skilled workers were from there. Russia did and does have their own production around Yekaterinburg utilizing their own workforce, but the cutting edge was always in or from Ukraine. And so today we have tens of thousands of hours of historical programming on YT which examines the history of Russia specifically, including their previous colonial phases under the tsar and the Soviets, so why anyone would come to any other conclusion than "they're doing it again" and also actively deny that it is boggles my f*cking mind. The reasons are also just as clear.
those skilled engineers were Russians, Kharkov was Russian until 1922 where it was given to Ukraine, the engineers at Kharkov exclusively spoke Russian, a lot of them were Russian before Kharkov was given to Ukraine.
Are you some kind of idiot or nucklehead? This whole tank platform was initially developed in Kharkiv, Ukrainian SSR as T-64. Then russians in Tagil made T-72 out of it, by downgrading it to make it cheaper, simpler and as a result less capable. Same thing with T-80 and T-90 - they are versions of Kharkiv chassis.

So the real quesiton is: are you mad that russia is losing? lol

The relatively safer ammo storage configuration of the Abrams is an advantage, however, it only works because the Abrams doesn't carry any dedicated HE/HE-frag rounds; such rounds are far more powerful than the canister and multi-purpose rounds used by the Abrams, but they are also a lot more explosive...
..The detonation of such rounds (not mere propellant cook-off) routinely obliterates the entire tank, and this is why the Abrams doesn't use this round.
HE/HE-frag rounds are particularly useful against fortifications, but they cannot be contained by blast doors or blow-out panels.

The ukraine we have today is a modern soviet creation, most of it - 1/2 is basically russians, communists promoted ukrainization but lets be honest if you can earn x2 more why would you stay..
Its more.. Somebody slowly feels more or less as you go further east or west.
When russia did that shit in 2014 they lost many factories they had funded in the ukrain to make weapons, ukraine had even a russian ballistic missile factory gunded in denipro.. If it hadnt closed ukraine would have large numbers of rockets similar to iskandr.... And ukraine lost 1000snds of workers, scientists ect who just went to russia to live.

Absolutely right. All the cream ended up in Ukraine during the Soviet era. All general secretaries were from Ukraine: Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Gorbachev. Therefore, Ukraine in the USSR lived for free. It’s very very far from the worlds best tank.
During Euro tank trials it came last.
Ukraine/Russia conflict has changed the way we look at tanks.
I find myself drawn to looking at the top of the tank now instead of the armor and reactive plates all around them.
"next best" means 2nd place so it is still one of the better tanks.
The tank does exist Thailand owns a good amount of them and Ukraine owns the rest they weren't mass-produced because of corruption in lack of funds and the start of the war happened and some of them went to Ukrainian military and the rest were exported to their buyers it is a pretty modernized version of the t80 I wouldn't say it is the best tank in the world I wouldn't say any tank is but it is a pretty well-rounded tank and a huge difference from the original
Why would there be corruption on tanks bought by Thailand? Then I hope the Government of Thailand has properly asked for there money back from the snakes in Kharkiv.
Thailand has been frustratingly seeking the substitutable parts for years. I think at least the 125 mm round is common with its Chinese tank VT-4.
@@kittenastrophy5951 yeah I'm sure they use both the same round and there is a pretty big market for that type of round so they won't have problems getting the ammo and a lot of the parts that are modern Western technology shouldn't be hard to get if they know the right sources now the Soviet parts of the tank might be a little harder to get but still there is a vast amount of parts for anything from t62 to t80 probably because there is a lot of countries still using them

Also the oplot has the problem that all tanks must work within, production, cost, weight. Its too heavy for its theater, producing the era has a high defect rate (which is why era sticks with plates), its too expensive, the engine isnt exposed (aka the sprocket is easy to jam) etc etc. These are concessions tanks make for reasons.
Now that Russia has a few British Challenger tanks for evaluation they can improve on their existing T-90s or their Armata T-14s now
Aren’t they older challengers? Surely there t90s are better then that
Why do you guys keep saying that? there's literally nothing there to improve. Russian tanks are better. The only thing that you could potentially improve is electronics. But good luck copying that (impossible). But Russian tanks have superior design overall. Even more so, I feel like it will make another leap soon, which will leave any other world's tank design behind by many decades.
When did Russia get a "few" challenger 2's one is confirmed destroyed with another reported but not confirmed that's a possible two neither of which were secured by the Russians. But even if they had recovered both there isn't much to learn the electronics will have been destroyed and even if by some miracle some electronics did survive congrats you've got old systems not the current system's installed in Challenger 2's in British service good luck with that.
To be honest we need something newer then the Armored column they are loosing their importance
