What are the rules to fish on the beach? I’m going to ocean city md again this year, next week and I want to fish so is there a specific time I can fish? And am I allowed without a license.
Best thing to do is to Google search it. You can fish before and after the lifeguards are on duty, but need to stay 50 yards away from swimmers. Lifeguards leave at 5:30 so I usually get there around 6 and start looking for a spot. A license is required, they are very inexpensive.
Honestly fishing hasn't been all the best. The last couple storms that came through have made fishing difficult. Croaker are still around off the beach and bay, maybe a tog on 2nd st. The north jetty has been producing good size sheepshead. Good luck!
@@ReelJayB any chance youd like to meet up while im down and teach a newbie a little more about surf/saltwater fishing? ive only done it 1 time before.
This weekend I'm all tied up. If you need any tips, just DM me on Instagram. I also did a video on a beginners guide to surf fishing, definitely check that one out.
August can either be good or bad....depends on the water temps. Sometimes the water is too hot and the fish leave. Those kingfish you saw us catching in the video will be around in the surf-bluefish too. You can also go after big ray's and sharks. The 9th st pier is a good place, plenty of croaker, spot, small seabass, or fish low tide for rays and small sharks. Good luck!
2 rods are the best to use, cast 1 far (as far as you can) and cast the other about 15 yards out. Find out if they are biting further or closer to shore. My rigs from www.reeljayb.com work great or buy a high low (some call it a double drop) rig. I use calamari squid from the bait shop, it comes in a box and works the best. Good luck!
last year i was fishing off the pier and i threw the line out, it was like 930pm and i turned around to light a bowl real quick and something hit my bait and i couldnt get to it in time and it took the entire fishing pole into the water lmao
@@ReelJayB a big ray or possibly a medium sized shark. probably a ray tho, i was catching them a bit that week, but i also saw people pulling in hammerheads off the pier too!
Going down to frontier town this coming week. 3 years ago caught two rays of the 50 bridge. Ran my line out quicker than I thought humanly possible. Fought it for an hour, before I landed it on the rocks and got the hook out. Small shark the next night. A few small fluke. Good times.
Thanks for the video, this looks so fun man. I can't wait to try it myself!

Why the preference in frozen sand fleas? I can see them scurrying back under in the video.
I honestly use both. I just had them in my bait freezer so I grabbed them. No preference at all.
Great videos!! What can my sons and I expect to catch in the surf and on the 9th st pier the first week of August? Thanks

@@Acolis Where are you thinking? I can't make up my mind, whether to get osv permit and try surf fishing, or just sticking to the piers and bridge. 🤷
Hey reelb do you know if Angler Restaurant is open yet if so can you do a update on them
I believe they are open. I planned a "mid summer" update video next week.
Thanks
What street were you on here?
Can't give my spot, but it was the north end of ocean city. Near DE.
Hey ReelB. The OC water tower that is in the beginning of this video; this is the one down by first st?
64th by the boat ramp.
@@ReelJayB Got it! Thanks!
Have you ever been out deep sea fishing?
Been a few times, planning to go out again this Friday. It's very hard to film out there....gotcha catch fish!
Ever try rock fish what about crabs there the best thing in water
Occasionally I'll target rock fish....my dream is to catch a big red from the surf.
What's the biggest fish you've caught surf fishing
30" black drum earlier this year is the biggest so far
@@ReelJayB what did you use
@@jake.euler19 my high low rig with an 8/0 circle hook. Tipped with green crabs and orange fish bites. 4oz pyramid sinker.
What street was the beach and hotels at start
Can't give up my spot, its tough as it is to find a spot to fish in the summer. But it was in the upper part of ocean city.
Wasn't looking for trade secrets didn't know u were going to fish there it was a nice shot of beach
How deep do u think ur fishing
No clue, the noreaster earlier in the year really screwed up the beach. I'm guessing somewhere between 10 or 15 feet? Sounds about right....I think! 🤣
So, bloodworms worked best
For that day, yes. Usually squid or cut finger mullet work great too.
That looks fun! I need to do some surf fishing this year. It’s been years…. You ever try squid down there?
Oh you have squid on the bottom hook
Some big reds were just hanging around! Hoping to get back out soon to try to catch one. Weather looks like crap the next week or so.
@@ReelJayB I hope they’re still around in two weeks I’m heading down at the end of July
@@FamilyReelTV Good luck! Let me know if you catch anything, I'm sure I'll see you out there.
