Hi I enjoyed your video. I like the way you explain things compared to so many other UA-camrs out there that use a typical young persons slang. You make it very clear what you’re doing. Thank you
Just stumbled across your Channel I really enjoy the fishing videos how you represent Maryland I've lived in Maryland for close to 60 years now. I'm proud of our state and the way you represent Md. I got skunked at Assateague just passed Sunday and we went for a couple hours was throwing some Kastmasters out it was very windy and choppy and I had a lightweight kastmaster didn't do well. Ken
Thanks! Send me a DM on Instagram, let's try to set something up. I haven't been out there in a while, hoping to go soon before fishing ends for the year!
Nice catch! Maybe a “Driving on the beach for beginners” would be a popular video. I’d like to know if a 2011 Ford Escape can do it, asking for a friend.
Great fish I have a question I don't have a four wheeler drive vehicle I normally go to the end of the Rd where everyone goes swimming seems like the water there is really shallow is there a better place to go for the fall run?
That's pretty much it. Most who don't have a 4x4 will fish on the state side of the park. Some will venture out near the OSV side and walk on the beach from there.
I have a calendar on my website, www.reeljayb.com that shows the months fish are here. For migratory fish like drum, I just monitor local facebook groups/friends pages and when I see them being caught, I hurry and get out there.
On that day I was casting between the breakers. When the waves break, that tells you where the top of the sandbar is. I try to put my bait either before the wave forms or after the wave breaks, but never on top of the bar.
Hey Jay! Always appreciate your video’s! Do they require you to have any kind of tools/rope etc to drive on the beach? As if, you’d get stuck, items to get yourself unstuck? Thank for any info
@@ReelJayB , yes it was! A beautiful fish and wrestling it in had you all out of breath 😃 Watching you catch that had me so excited, I was saying " Please stay on" , that water was so wild. Happy you had a good day.😃
Thank you. I’m going to take my son surfing fishing in Ocracoke this summer. It will be our first time, is there a good resource that is dependable to make decision on what to keep and what to put back?
@@rickhankey7321 I don't know of any resources, maybe check their fish and game website so see what can be caught there? From there you can look up the fish to see the regs and what to eat

Thanks Ken! I really appreciate you watching. Assateague is my favorite spot to fish, hopefully you can get back out soon when the wind dies down.
Been beach driving on 20 to 22 lbs for 20 years. Never seriously stuck. We love Assateague and Hatteras national seashore! You should take a trip Jay.
I hear Hatteras has amazing surf fishing! I definitely want to make it down there sometime. Thanks for watching my video John!
Hey brother, that was an awesome fish! I am new to surf fishing and I also love assateague!
I live close to the island lets go fishing!

Nice! I'm trying to get down there this weekend.
Weather looks great and the drum are still very active. Have fun!
Great video man! Congrats on that monster drum!!!

Nice fish!!!!
Thanks!!
Hey Jay- great video! What lb test are you tying your high low rigs with for drum?
Thanks! 50# are the rigs and 50# braid on the reel.
Nice catches tho loved the video

I could do that! I'll try to think of some common tips and what to look out for. Great idea!

What website do u check to keep up on the black drum to see when they are running?

What was the date you were fishing. What do you think the most productive month is
I think this was April. They only hang around for a few weeks, April is definitely the month to try. April/May. The redfish are around now.
Hi Jay, I am local to assateague. Planning on going down this weekend. Where did you find the green crabs locally? Tight lines buddy.
All Tackle next to royal farms. Good luck!!
How far past the breakers do you cast out for this place ? I'm heading up there tomorrow and was looking for an idea before I head out

You'll need your basic recovery gear, tow rope, jack and shovel. The park ranger will check to see if you have the gear on occasion.
Yeah, they do. Here is the link to the NPS OSV website, www.nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/osv.htm it has the required equipment listed on it.
@@ReelJayB sweet thanks! Appreciate that info
That was a beautiful fish, 30 in. but how much did it weigh?
Thanks Diane! My guess is probably around 15 to 20 pounds. It was a fat fish!

Will a 9 foot rod work? Have a penn battle 2.
9' or 10' is perfect. I use 1 of each. I think the drum I caught was on the 9'.
LOL First time using a camera?
Nope. It's a head mount, so sometimes it's hard to make sure it's adjusted right.
Just curious what kind of fish that was and why release vs eat?
Black drum....mild white meat. Drum tend to have worms when they are bigger in size, so I release them.

Could you not keep that fish? Are Black Drum good eating fish?
He was definitely keeper size, but black drum are known to have worms.
And they dont taste good at all. The bigger ones anyway.
Fishing with crab for black drum is a waste of bait. Sand fleas are the way to go.
Maybe so, but they definitely liked the crab better than day. I caught smaller ones using green crabs as well and they took those more than sandfleas.
