To be fair sandpaper is not an equal comparison to normal wear. Things like body sweat, colognes/lotions etc. kill gold plating.

Get all the gold plated joints you got and melt them down to see how much gold u can get back
Gotta separate all the metals with chemicals then strain the “gold” water then melt, it’s not that simple to just melt down. Bit of a process
Doubt you can get anything back. Search for videos on how gold platting is done you'll see.
osvaldo guzman I bet he can get something but look up how to refine gold from scraps. It’s not a quick process and some of the stuff needed might be difficult to get. If you want to make a 9999 pure bar. Look up sreetips or sum on UA-cam he does it all the time but he’s a chemist.

You don’t need to test it against DRY sandpaper. Test it against humidity and sweat.
It will change color after a while and base metal will start to show I have 2 that have done this 😂

I did some research they dip they're chains in to gold plated 5x and the metal underneath is sterling silver so they have a super super thick layer of gold to keep it from tarnishing by far the best quality chain I've ever had compared to solid chains super good quality 👍🔥🔥💯

Try to test it if it's gold plated, with acid at the jewelry store.
Gold layer should be a lot softer and easily scratched.
CUBA now that the chain has been beaten, order the 18k liquid test and see if their plating holds up to be authentic 18k?

Use cocacola next time. The main reason my most plated chains fade is because of the acids from sweat and alcohol from colognes/perfume.
This is why I switched to wearing silver instead of plated shit, to me it’s more worth your money in the long run to wear silver especially if you’re on a budget and it also won’t turn your neck green, my only problem with silver is the tarnishing and you constantly gotta clean it
