I'd rather have solid gold but plated makes more sense for me. I always carry but if someone gets the jump on me and tries to mug me, I'd rather loose a couple hundred dollars worth of jewelry rather than a couple thousand.
The flip side is that if you buy plated you are 100% guaranteed that money is gone. Solid gold you get money back especially if you were smart about it.
Only people that get their chain snached is people with these oversized fake chains. A real solid gold chain thats a good sized and can be tucked in will go a long way.

So reading the Jaxxson website it does sound like it is gold vermeil and not gold plating. There is a big difference because gold vermeil is bonded to silver and much thicker layer.

Most cheap plating is 5 micron....that's the width of 5 atoms. The fact the Jaxxon held up to multiple swipes, by hand, of low grit sandpaper is impressive. It's obviously higher quality than Walmart/Wish/Flea Market Kiosk gold plated jewelry. The price is more than fair for Iralian .925 with quality plating.

The amount of gold in gold plating is unbelievably small. When we plate we do the thickest coat possible and it's less than $5 of actual gold. That's cranking the voltage and depleting the solution 4 times faster than recommended.

@@romeobrown1121 All plating fades based on mechanical wear. Silver tarnishes, especially sterling silver since it is only 92.5% silver with the rest being copper, typically. Solid gold and platinum will not tarnish but plated will always wear off and tarnish eventually, unless it isn't worn.
