That sounds very similar to what happened to me very recently. I am a type 1 diabetic have been a diabetic since I was a child. I have gone into both diabetic ketoasidosis and low blood sugars lots so you are not alone. I've been in ICU lots you got this.

This is similar to my story! I was just diagnosed as a T1D this February, after suffering from DKA symptoms since October. I tried to get help back then, but kept getting blown off my my doctor. I went through the leg cramps, the unquenchable thirst, nurses couldn't get a blood pressure reading, had to pee ALL the time to the point where I couldn't participate in normal activities at all (oh boy exams were not fun), I was incredibly dehydrated, went through EXTREME weight loss (1-2lbs a day...my mom admitted later to the weight loss scaring her). I didn't know blurry vision was a symptom, but it made me just remember that before being formally diagnosed, I remember sitting in class and all the sudden not being able to read what was on the whiteboard even with my reading glasses. I frantically tried calling my mom and optometrist, thinking my glasses stopped working???(dumb, but I was in a panic and thinking maybe my transition lense coating was damaged??...also dumb). But now what happened makes complete sense. I eventually learned too that I don't experience extreme thirst unless my bg is 500+. (Sorry for all the parenthesis, but I keep realizing different things while thinking about our experiences, but I was under the impression that DKA was survivable for months....did I just get incredibly lucky to survive it for over 3 months? (Ack I feel tears coming on at this thought). I think the thing that actually kept me out of the ER and actually surviving DKA so long was that my favorite drink actually became sugar free Gatorade. I finally got to doctor that didn't dismiss me and submitted the lab work I'd been asking others for; I had actually figured out I was diabetic back in October without any medical intervention, based on all the new symptoms I was experiencing. My keytones were super high but my electrolytes were normal, and he was baffled. He was debating about sending me to the ER then and there but since I didn't experience nausea or vomiting (bc electrolytes) he let me leave for class. He continued to call after hours to check up on me to make sure I was still feeling okay and didn't get any nausea. So thank you sugar free Gatorade for saving my life I think 🤔. He didn't initially tell me what type of diabetes I had so I went a while thinking it was T2D and could be fixed. The same doctor who blew me off twice, was peppy when saying "oh yeah it's T2D you can fix it, just lose some weight!" (I'm still really angry about her blowing me off, that's another place I still get emotional). I kept getting hit with (and still do as friends and family find out) "Type 1? I thought only kids got that?" (I'm 24). My world kinda flipped upside-down for a while after that. Sorry for rambling on but I've been looking to a bunch of posts and people sharing their experiences like yours, and it's really helped me feel less alone. I'm not as sacred as I was in the beginning. I still have a hard time here and there comprehending that I almost died due to negligence, because it's not something I ever thought I'd go through.I do get pretty emotional when I get stuck thinking about what happened. So thank you for sharing your story and journey. I actually got to this video while looking at cute accessories for my G6 lol.
