To clear up some confusion about probabilities something needs to be understood. The fact that there are 6 possible outcomes does NOT mean that each outcome is equally probable. You cannot just divide 100 by 6 and claim that's the odds of an escape point being chosen. That is not how RNG, or even probability in general works.
Karl I gotta say, you’re the cream of the crop when it comes to these documentary-style speedrunning videos. I wish there was more on the channel, but I understand that quality doesn’t come in 3 day production windows. Keep it up, you absolute legend.
There is a quote I heard once: "There is nothing that wastes more time than trying to save time." It kind of fits here. And I don't mean that they're wasting their time on doing speedruns or anything like that, because those people are incredible. I just mean that they spend all this time after having the talents and techniques already mostly down on even the smallest chance that things line up more or less perfectly. And that's some serious dedication!
I've had zero interest in speed runs... Then I saw your in depth analyses of the Doom walkway run, and loved just how technical it got. I show non-gamer friends/family these videos because they are truly amazing. The lengths some go to understand the software and achieve these feats is objectively impressive regardless of one's experience with games. Thanks for the way you do the analysis and explanations.
Actually he meant he was gonna reach the escape boat too fast, so the hostages wouldn't be able to reach their escape checkpoints during his fadeout, and he'd lose. It literally was too fast for him to win, and that's why he delayed getting in the boat by just the tiniest bit at the end.
Imagine being a guard in one of these maps when people are speedrunning just seeing this madman running sideways looking down, flicking his aim and killing you like his bullet was destined for your heart, then as you die you just see them zoom along

You're spot on in this video. I've been replaying the game lately, and I've encountered some of the mechanics you mentioned here being wierd. In Frigate, I shot the bridge hostage taker, and then retreated, but when I re-entered the room, the hostage was still standing still, despite there being nobody else in the room. I later found the right guard at a staircase, and after I killed him, THEN the hostage was released. Also, in Control, I was almost to the hacking portion, when I tried to get Natalya to come through the door, I saw her text box, then turned around, but didn't hear a door open. I turn back around, she's standing right behind me. I guess while she was unloaded, she ghost walked through the door to join me.

I have never really cared about speed running before, I am that type of person to explore every hallway or whatever. But I just randomly watched your video about 8 second Hangar speed run and I was hooked. I think part of it is seeing such a deep analysis of something that i find so interesting. And another part is it is always nice seeing people being so passionate about something.
YES ALL DIFFICULTIES PLEASE! The indepth analysis was excellent, really. The thing I like the most tho is the approachable way you present the information with your slidey infographics lol. I would love to see a Secret Agent and 00 Agent breakdown.
Someone should grind and see if they CAN get the hostages out in 21 seconds. Ignore the heli throw to ensure you get to the exit in 21 and see if the hostages can get out. If you get perfect hostages with the death animations and a fast alerted guard... from this video, it seems possible.
Interestingly, he also said that if you get to the escape boat too fast, the hostages won't have time to reach their escape checkpoint during your fadeout. So in that case, you DON'T want to do that as quick as possible.
Another great video. These deep explanations of strategy really compliment Ryan White’s videos on the history of the levels. That hostage rescued at the opening you teased at the end definitely has me interested in more.

I think you only see the cutscene with Bond at the end if you successfully complete the mission. You can see in the video of rayan isran's failed 2010 run that it just goes straight to black before showing the end screen.

Just wanted to say that I love all your videos and that I honestly didn't know or care that much about speed running before finding your channel. Thanks for all the great content and keep it up
oh man, the moment you played a run with music... the nostalgia kicked in hard. I need to dig up my 64!
Keep up the great work Karl, I would love to see more videos specifically focusing on Luck-heavy runs
You absolute legend, and yes I would like to see the higher difficulties.
Oh yeah and I would like to see more on the 21 second strategy.
This has been one of the more entertaining speedrun videos I have watched! keep up the work and cant wait to see more!
Yes, I for one would love to hear more details about Frigate. Thanks for the video, it was informative and interesting.
Karl you are truly a genius and also an expert communicator. So happy that you started making videos after years of hearing of your exploits
I just love your Speedrunning analysis!
It'll be intreasting to see the other difficulties analysis as well
@user-qs3uj2j4t This is a Scam!!
I really like your narration. And I LOVE the outro... You absolute LEGENDS :)
The sheer amount of work that has gone into this video (and many of your others) is quite incredible and of great interest to me. I am not a speed runner myself but love the N64 and still play the classics regularly. Goldeneye will always have a special place in my heart and such analysis of it makes me happy. Cheers
Biggest plot twist in history: it was YOU who broke the record. I don’t think anyone expected that when you spent the whole video talking about other people
