The guy at the beginning is the genius that wrote these songs! The late great Jim Steinman. They passed away within months of each other. Their concerts were freaking amazing.
I've got nothing but respect for both of them, but the intro on the album is so much better. For that reason alone, I'd like to see people react to the audio version only. Regarding that intro, it definitely appeals to and is understood by certain groups of people. I loved it when I first heard it, and still do. But it always catches people off guard.
You need to listen to the entire Bat out of Hell album. 1. Bat out of Hell 2. You took the words right out of my mouth 3. Heaven Can Wait 4. Heaven Can Wait 5. Two Out of Three Ain't Bad 6. Paradise by the Dashboard Light 7. For Crying out Loud
Agreed, these are amazing so is Out of the Frying Pan, Read em and Weep, All revved up and no place to go, Everything Louder than everything else and Dead Ringer, lol
Meatloaf, king of rock opera. He is an actor first and loves to tell a story. I had the honor of seeing him in concert once, it was a show of a lifetime. The best concert and also Broadway level entertainment. Next stop... Bat out of Hell, video version. I grew up in the very best music generation ever.
I am 40, I thank my dad all of the time for introducing me to his music. I even had him buy me Bat out of Hell and Bat out of Hell II for Christmas one year!
Jim Steinman, the guy with the glasses and piano player .. heard Meatloaf sing and found the guy to sing his operatic style music. He wrote to his voice. They were the Greatest duo! RIP to Both!
Meatloaf considered himself an actor who could sing....and his performances were really him playing a character, acting out a scene ....and like great acting scenes, it leads up to a climactic, cathartic buildup!.....He had a very unique talent!
Offering your throat to the wolf is a sign of trust and courage, as the wolf's nature, is to tear out your throat and kill you for food. Similar to Dashboard "does he love me?" then I'll take the rose.
Yeah, I USUALLY really like BP’s reactions but this was such a tasteless and childish interpretation of a beautiful song. Needs to get out of the rap mind and reach a little farther.
I said this before but I really love your reactions. I'm a 71 year old white woman and privileged to grow up with the best music. You need to react to Dusty Springfield beginning with Son of a Preacher Man.😊
Bat out of Hell will absolutely floor you and Meatloaf himself declared For Crying Out Loud the greatest love song ever written. You definitely need to check those two out next.
It was only on Broadway (or rather, 'off-Broadway' as it wasn't actually on Broadway) for a few months - starting in September 2019 before the Covid lockdowns happened and then never returned. Surprisingly, the musical was never that popular in North America (a US/Canadian tour was abandoned after only a month or two, and a LA production was also cancelled). It was far more successful in the UK where it debuted in 2018 and ran until last year (apart from a Covid lockdown gap). I saw it 3 times in the UK - twice in the West End (London) and once on tour in Stoke. All were sold out, as I believe pretty much every show in the UK was, and I believe the West End return after Covid broke box office records. It was honestly the best musical I've ever seen, and if it were to start up again I would definitely go see it again. Extensive footage of the shows can be found on UA-cam and some are well worth watching to appreciate how good the show was.
I feel as if a part of my youth died with the passing of this wonderful entertainer and genuine human being. Marvin Lee Aday (Michael) AKA Meatloaf your musical performances will live on! Thanks for the decades of memories.
I saw Meatloaf in 1978. The concert was pretty much like this footage. The whole Bat Out of Hell album was fantastic from start to finish. You could react to the entire album and be blown away
Before he became a rock icon, Meatloaf's background was as an actor in stage productions and musical theater. Of all the actors they auditioned for the role of Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), he was the only one who could sing all the words to the character's signature song, "Hot Patootie," which won him the role. He not only had an intuitive sense for the music, but also a passion for performing. This is what first brought him and songwriter Jim Steinman together in 1973, and led them to become musical collaborators with "Bat Out Of Hell," and its sequels.
OMG! I just can’t believe someone finally reacted to Meatloaf!!! I’ve always wanted to make this request but didn’t think that anyone would actually do it!!! THANK YOU! More please!
There’s lots of reactors that’ve covered MeatLoaf (and were much more informative & classier reactions). His mind is too set in degradation rap. Search Meat Loaf reactions. The Charismatic Voice has done a few too.
You may have noticed that Meatloaf isn't exactly the leading man type. But he performed some of the most beautiful love songs ever. --- Courtesy Jim Steinman. A once in a lifetime collaboration.
Omg I was in tears watching your stunned face when he said "I bet you say that to all the boys"...however, he wasn't referring to her sticking her tongue down his throat to steal his words, he meant she said "I love you" when he was about to say it first You have GOT to see Bat Out of Hell and Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through (you'll see a familiar face there)
One of the great things about Meat Loaf and other artists of such eras, they’re not blatant. Seductive, sensual words, metaphors - but never crass. Conway Twitty. :)
There was nobody else like Meat Loaf, he is deeply missed. You really need to check out some of his stuff he did later in his career. He matured somewhat, but his live performances were still fantastic. A good one to experience is his live version of "I'd Lie For You And That's The Truth." Check out the live video where Patti Russo is wearing the red dress (Patti was a longtime performer with Meat Loaf and sang the girl parts on albums starting with the album "Bat Out of Hell 2). Anyway, you will love this performance.
Meat Loaf was a mega singer. But the songwriter was a musical genuis. That's Jim Steinman, talking in the intro of the song and playing the keyborad/piano. Look up the trail of songs he wrote, not only for Meat Loaf but for many other wonderful artists as well!
"Would you offer your throat" was referring to the outside of her throat (her neck). Think hickey. It was also more in reference to a more fantasy situation, like a werewolf or vampire. Not sticking your tongue, or anything else, down her throat. When viewed from that perspective, all the other lines in the intro make more sense. "How much do you love me?" "More than life itself." "Would you give your life for me?" "Yes." "I bet you say that to all the boys..." 😂
Rock Opera was a very unique genre and Meat was the undisputed king within. You might spend some time exploring the full genre where you'll find classics like "Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Little Shop of Horrors", and the first self-proclaimed rock opera "Tommy". It took a very special set of talents to write, compose, produce, and then perform in the rock opera genre and thank goodness for Meat Loaf who brought it out into the full light of day in a spectacular way!
Meatloaf had a voice that was unmatched. This song is one of my favorites. Great shit! The 70's were artistic, a lot of drama, a lot of acting. Meatloaf was a great actor in the cult classic THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (Eddie). Incredibly talented. Check out - "Hot Patootie Bless My Soul".
This gave me wolf man and vampire vibes at first. Jim Steinman, the composer of this and all of Meat Loaf's songs, is the man speaking at the beginning. You can see him playing piano in this and many of Meat Loaf's videos also.
It's a theatrical piece - likely hinting at the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood'... 😂Jim Steinman, who wrote and composed the song did the spoken intro... Steinman wrote Meat Loaf's biggest records ('Bat out of Hell' ... 'Dead Ringer' ... 'Bat out of Hell II'...)
The whole Bat Out of Hell album is fire. The guy talking in the into was Jim Steinman. He co-wrote the album. Also, he wrote and sings on Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart. I think you should listen to it as well.
YES .. THE BAT OUT OF HELL ALBUM 1977... BEST EVER SELLING ALBUM. EVERY YEAR IT AVERAGES 200, 000 IN SALES AND SPENT 522 WEEKS ON U K CHARTS , AND ITS THE NUMBER 1 SELLING ALBUM IN AUSTRALIA.. INCREDIBLE DEBUT ALBUM....
Meatloaf made concept albums. Not just an album with a bunch of songs - they were albums whose songs added together made a full opera. He was mentally ill and his albums are so beyond anyone else! Such a talent! He did not get enough credit.
Go through the whole "Bat out of Hell" album whenever you can. If you have to react to another song, do it with a guest. This is an album that I can listen to front to back, just as I did when I got it for Christmas.
I'm 72 and have listened to this album more than any other. Absolutely love it. Can't remember how many times I bought the album cassette and CD. But I bought a lot for various reasons. I love all music but the Bat out of Hell album is the most complete album I've ever listened to. Love all the tracks on it. Every one of them.
G'day BP. Great reaction. This is the music I grew up with. I purchased this album on vinyl when I was a teenager. As mentioned in other comments the male talking in the introduction was Jim Steinman, who wrote all of Meatloaf's songs. He also wrote Total Eclipse of the Heart for Bonny Tyler and It's All Coming Back to Me Now by Celine Dion. You have noted the connection between several songs on the concert tour. Interestingly the female lead on the video clips is not the female singer who recorded the songs for the album. The singer on the album is Ellen Foley. Ellen declined to tour on the Bat Out of Hell tour and had to be replaced by another singer who lip-synced the songs which were played from recordings. The woman in the video is actually Karla DeVito. God Bless my friend.
The movie you were talking about, I believe, was MY GIRL. A 1991 classic ❤ Meat Loaf is also a classic. ❤ Growing up in the 1970's was amazing...all except for being old now. 😎🤟
Recommendation: Meat Loaf "Objects In The Rearview Mirror (may appear closer than they are)" FOLLOWED BY "the insatiable appetite " as sung by Steve Barton. Same music but altered for true musical theater. Also Good Girls Go To Heaven, Bat Outta Hell, Wasted Youth, and Life Is a Lemon
Jim Steinman is the guy in the intro. He wrote a bunch of Meatloaf's songs and they had a long collaboration together. He has some great poetry type tracks like that. My favorite is "Love, Death, And An American Guitar," from Steinman's solo album. Insanely great, weird, wild word symphony. The intro is only tangentially related to the song. The song is about love, the intro is more about what will you sacrifice for love. And the videos aren't from a performance. They're all lip syncs to make videos, long after the album was recorded. Carla DeVito, the brunette singer, isn't even the one who sang on the album, she's just there for the video.
We were lucky, we had the best music. Rock and Country. My son told me that one day. Need to listen to some Lynyrd Skinner. Freebird is a looong song. LOL used to have to flip the tape over in the middle, lmao. Yeah, I had the cassette. But I go back to 8 tracks and vinyl.
🇬🇧 Each & every song of Meatloaf's was turned into a mini rock-opera. Jim Steinman was the songwriter/genius, & Meatloaf put his perfect spin on them. I agree 100% with other people's comments on other great songs by Meatloaf "For Crying Out Loud" "Objects In The Rear View Mirror" "Bat Out Of Hell". In fact the whole "Bat Out Of Hell" album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Not a bad song on it. It was in the charts forever (for all i know, its still in there!) 🎼🎶🎙️❤️
My father had me grow up on Meat Loaf and many others, it's actually why Queen is my all-time favorite band. Anyways, Meat Loaf is basically a showman. Both with lyrics and on stage it's why his music is the way it is.
All of the Meatloaf songs you have reacted to so far are from the "Bat Out Of Hell" album,,, do yourself a huge favour and sit in a quiet comfy place and listen to the entire album from start to finish, no skips just play through. The album was written by Jim Steinmann as a concept/soundtrack for a stage musical. It was such a huge thing back in the day, and remains one of the best of its genre, to this day... btw, I might be just a smidge biased about this album and it's incredible creators 🥰 🙃🐨🇦🇺
Never got to see Meatloaf in person, but I've seen him on television, and I've read a lot about him. I know he put everything into his performances, even risking his health to do it.
Bat out of hell was what was known as a concept album, all the tracks are parts of an overall story. This gig was where they would perform the whole album. I worked on a movie that Meat was in (The 51st State) for 3 months and in all the film & television work I did over the years he was one of the nicest and most genuine guys I ever came across in that world. No disappearing off to a Winnebago for him, he would come and sit with all us crew and eat his meals with us.
"For Crying Out Loud" is great. I love "If Life is a Lemon . . ." I love all his work. He has done some great acting. You cannot go wrong with ANY OF HIS SONGS!😊❤ I met him at FanX, he was such a kind, humble man, when he was just being himself. He is greatly missed. I LOVE THE LOOKS ON YOUR FACE, PRICELESS!
You can't go wrong with any Meatloaf song! a little trivia...Rock and Roll Dreams Come True is another great song. The official video includes a young actress that had yet to be in a movie, her name was Angelina Jolie.
I saw that show back in ‘77 at the “The Old Waldorf” on Battery St. In San Francisco. A small venue They did the whole album. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
I saw meatloaf twice when he was over here in England. First was the 10th anniversary tour of bat out of hell and was mind blowing. The second time was on Valentine’s Day. He sat on the edge of the stage with a red rose 🌹 in his hand and sang 2 out of 3 ain’t bad to one of the audience staring at the all the way through the song. At the end he called the person up to the stage. It was a young lad probably only about 17. He gave him the rose and told him to give it to his girl friend. So sad to think I will never see him perform live again 😢
@blackpegasus, you missed the analogy with the wolf. The wolf with red roses is the date bringing gifts expecting something in return. A wolf goes for the throat for the kill like all aggressive animals. He's asking if she'll offer it, or in this case herself in exchange for gifts. She wants to know if he'll offer her other things like himself and a promise of love and finally will he starve without her, meaning her love. And if hell agree to these things then she is his. And finally he implies she'll laydown with any wolf bearing gifts and promises. He's getting what he wants without saying he loves her outright but swears he was about to. Its very similar to the theme of Paridise by the dashboard lights.
To see him in concert was unreal. I dragged my son (who hates MeatLoaf and his music) to his last tour of Australia and by the end of the concert my son said (quote) that was an awesome concert.
I am from Norway. I bought the album Bat Out Of Hell in 1981. I was 15. This album is one of the most perfect album and it was gold in my album collection. So great. So cool. The cover. It was the symbol of USA for me at that time. :)
Bat Out Of Hell was their # 1 hit for months. It is a full circle song beginning middle end. Have to pay attention to it. Sense Meatloaf did musical on Broadway that's why his songs are story songs.
The video, as with "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad", "Paradise by the Dashboard Light", and the others in the "Bat out of Hell" set, was filmed on a soundstage as if it were a live performance, with Meat Loaf in his signature suspenders, ripped formal shirt, and bearing a red scarf.
The guy at the beginning is the genius that wrote these songs! The late great Jim Steinman. They passed away within months of each other.
Their concerts were freaking amazing.
Jim Steinman was the man! I used to play some of his solo stuff on college radio when I could play anything I wanted. Good times!
1. Bat out of Hell
2. You took the words right out of my mouth
3. Heaven Can Wait
4. Heaven Can Wait
5. Two Out of Three Ain't Bad
6. Paradise by the Dashboard Light
7. For Crying out Loud
Ooo for crying out loud! I forgot about that one. Yes please check that out.
Heaven Can Wait studio version is amazing
Got to see Meat Loaf in London on his last tour - just an amazing gig - so much energy - so many people singing. Classic songs! Great reaction.
"For Crying Out Loud", "Objects in the Rearview Mirror", "Bat Out of Hell" and "Life is a Lemon" are must listens!
Bat out of hell yes please
Love "Life is a Lemon"
Yes Yes Yes and Yes.
“Life Is A Lemon (And I Want My Money BacK)” is very underrated. 👍🥂
Agreed, these are amazing so is Out of the Frying Pan, Read em and Weep, All revved up and no place to go, Everything Louder than everything else and Dead Ringer, lol
Would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses is about putting your trust in someone dangerous just because he charms you...
Nailed it!!!
Love this one! Used to listen to the entire Bat Out of Hell vinyl that my dad owned over and over again when I was 11 or 12. Meatloaf was different!

Me too, im 56 now, and 60'-80's were the best years for Music
@@reginaldbygrave759 I am 59 years old and I agree about the 60's through 80/s music.
His movies were awesome! He was an actor...
Like Ren 😎❣️
You know how rare it was to buy an album back then and every song was perfect ? You could just put it on and listen until it stopped ! Perfection
I felt the same about "Bad Attitude" too even if it is a bit more pop-ish, very underrated album of his
Offering your throat to the wolf is a sign of trust and courage, as the wolf's nature, is to tear out your throat and kill you for food. Similar to Dashboard "does he love me?" then I'll take the rose.
Yeah, I USUALLY really like BP’s reactions but this was such a tasteless and childish interpretation of a beautiful song. Needs to get out of the rap mind and reach a little farther.
You’re right
I said this before but I really love your reactions. I'm a 71 year old white woman and privileged to grow up with the best music. You need to react to Dusty Springfield beginning with Son of a Preacher Man.😊
Oh man. I forgot about this song!!! Yes. Id love to see BP reaction to that!
Bat out of Hell will absolutely floor you and Meatloaf himself declared For Crying Out Loud the greatest love song ever written. You definitely need to check those two out next.
The guy who was talking to the girl in the beginning
His name is jim steiman
He wrote all the lyrics and music to the Whole Is album
It's unfortunate that they changed that intro for the video. The album recording was so much better, imo.
@@cassianfalkener3706 I agree , in the video he sounds over dramatic and it sounds forced. The album sounds more natural and conversational.
I think we're all down for you to react to Rocky horror picture show if you really want to blow your mind😂
I second that!
I think he would hate it 🤣
Hot patatotie!
Ooh that’s a shout!! He will hate it but it would be so entertaining to see
For Crying Out Loud - best love song ever!!!
O doubt been saying that for years!
No doubt..😂😂
I agree 100%.
Jim wrote from his heart and Meatloaf sang it with every fiber of his being
🎵💜🎶💜
Yes and “Heaven Can Wait”
That would be Thank you by Led Zeppelin

A literal wolf would go for the kill at the throat. This wolf as red roses in his teeth. He is asking her if she trusts him completely.

"For Cryin' Out Loud" is epic.

I didn’t know what throat meant until after your sixth or so hint.🤣👍💕🦇😊
The whole first album, "Bat Out of Hell," by Meatloaf, is awesome!

It was in the charts forever (for all i know, its still in there!) 🎼🎶🎙️❤️
You described this very perfectly at the end brother. Thank you for that from a Generation Xer.
My father had me grow up on Meat Loaf and many others, it's actually why Queen is my all-time favorite band. Anyways, Meat Loaf is basically a showman. Both with lyrics and on stage it's why his music is the way it is.
Meatloaf is an experience and puts on a show for every song....Seeing him in concert was such an experience..No words.
It was such a huge thing back in the day, and remains one of the best of its genre, to this day... btw, I might be just a smidge biased about this album and it's incredible creators 🥰
🙃🐨🇦🇺
Never got to see Meatloaf in person, but I've seen him on television, and I've read a lot about him. I know he put everything into his performances, even risking his health to do it.
Bat out of hell was what was known as a concept album, all the tracks are parts of an overall story. This gig was where they would perform the whole album.
I worked on a movie that Meat was in (The 51st State) for 3 months and in all the film & television work I did over the years he was one of the nicest and most genuine guys I ever came across in that world. No disappearing off to a Winnebago for him, he would come and sit with all us crew and eat his meals with us.
Awesome BP!! Love this entire album!!
"Hymn to French kissing" - as described on BBC!!!!!!!
Meatloaf was an actor in the musical Hair. That should tell you a lot.
"For Crying Out Loud" is great.
I love "If Life is a Lemon . . ."
I love all his work. He has done some great acting. You cannot go wrong with ANY OF HIS SONGS!😊❤
I met him at FanX, he was such a kind, humble man, when he was just being himself.
Here in Germany, his songs are played over and over again on numerous radio stations. Meat Loaf is, as we say here, a real "Rampensau" 😁
He’s should see the video that goes with all his songs ❤
I saw meatloaf twice when he was over here in England. First was the 10th anniversary tour of bat out of hell and was mind blowing. The second time was on Valentine’s Day. He sat on the edge of the stage with a red rose 🌹 in his hand and sang 2 out of 3 ain’t bad to one of the audience staring at the all the way through the song. At the end he called the person up to the stage. It was a young lad probably only about 17. He gave him the rose and told him to give it to his girl friend. So sad to think I will never see him perform live again 😢
its about the total surrender of falling into true love . meatloaf ROCK OPRA
Great reaction, thank you Sir 🙏🦉❤️🐊👍
Look into Not A Dry Eye In The House,... absolutely amazing, beautifully heartbreaking.
Heaven can wait, is also an amazing song. I grew up listening to the whole album. I've probably played this album over 1000 times throughout my life.
yes! my favourite :)
Meatloaf was such a great entertainer. His shows were not only great musically, but he was such a great guy who truly loved his fans.
All good Meatloaf is contained in Bat Out of Hell Album
I learned how to kiss when I was 11 playing truth or dare. Said I wanted to learn to kiss like the older kids at the skating rink😂
